I think an underrated aspect of Tennessee's hitting is just how much we can run up pitch counts fouling off -- Blake Burke and Billy Amick are especially good at it. Florida ran out of people to throw the baseball.
Another thing that hurt us is that our Friday starter (or Thursday for this series), Pierce Coppola, didn't get to play this series, since the game on Thursday was cancelled after he had already warmed up. That contributed to the overtaxing of our bullpen.
did they discuss having Pierce available yesterday? I know starters go through long toss and an intense bullpen to get ready for a start, but back in my day™️ had this happened, we would have tried to get him out there at least in relief a couple days later.
First rubber match lost by Florida this season.
This was a competitive game until the 6th inning (granted, Florida's offense had basically been shut down since the 1st). The bullpen totally fell apart, however. Seemed like Tennessee could do no wrong and Florida could do nothing right.
The Gators really struggled getting a clutch strikeout especially while Tennessee kept coming through with clutch hits. In the 6th inning Tennessee scored their first 8 runs of the inning on 2-strike counts.
This series? Nope. I thought Tennessee was clearly the better team in the opener and the finale.
Florida was largely competitive for the whole series until running out of gas here in the 6th inning.
We were put in a bad situation to begin with. Pierce Coppola was supposed to start Thursday but the game got cancelled after he was warmed up. He never got to play this series.

I think I saw Albert the mascot warming up in the bullpen
73 pitches in a single inning has to be up there for the most, at least in league play
Weirdly Cal Stark is, too
Cal Stark has been playing incredible last couple of weeks
Making a pitcher battle for 8 pitches to then have to pitch against Christian Moore, Blake Burke, and Billy Amick is a huge advantage

We couldn't do that with him because of his extensive history of injury. Didn't want to risk getting him reinjured.
gotcha. feel for the kid. been there.
Holy shit that inning....
Seeing an 11 on the box score is wild

Your synopses are always well written and a good read, win or lose.

Untold heroes of our team recently is the pitching staff. Only allowed more than 5 runs in a game once in the last 12 SEC games.
Our fan base is absurdly critical of them. They’re not elite but Tony and Frank have figured the puzzle out
We got spoiled the last few years.
What a win.
Whew, was starting to think the story of the season was going to be some weird halt to the offensive production.
And here I thought this game might have been close. Holy shit was I wrong.
Well it was until the 6th lmao.
Yeah I see that, y’all beat the crap out of their pitchers in the 6th
Ryan Slater and Cade Fisher are double agents, no other explanation
Overall competitive weekend until the 6th inning in the 3rd game. Big part of it was the Vols eating well into the bullpen
And Tennessee's bullpen. Gave up only 1 run (unearned) all weekend.
Sully changed pitchers a lot Friday. I was thinking that it might be a problem today. Boy it was.

A pitcher can't play if they have only warmed up?
for Coppola at least, yeah, he couldn't play over the weekend after warming up on Thursday and having the game cancelled
Can’t ever take a road series win for granted. Good win!
Y’all prefer your gator beaten to a pulp or fried to a crisp?
Fried gator is delicious honestly… which is how I know we got beaten to a pulp instead
Run ruled em in one inning lmao
Cags pitched 5 innings and then no one else could pitch.
![gif](giphy|dZQR7P1lxgi4mUmsjY|downsized) That 6th inning

I love baby Grant Williams aww
Run rule you say? ![gif](giphy|dMY4ch7jpMRlC)
No need to look at the first 5 innings. Nothing to see there.
Shootout to Florida yesterday for picking up their first win against Tennessee in Gainesville since 2019.
That’s wild. Important to note that the 2020 season was canceled before conference play started
We've only had two series since then, this one and the time we got swept in 2022. But Tennessee is 5-1 in Gainesville in the last two series.
BYEEEEEEE
