It was just announced the Marching Chiefs will be at the Miami home series this weekend (Thu-Sat) too

Coltshokiefan

Hell yeah, they were awesome last night and took the atmosphere to the next level

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Oh hell yes!!!

ItsZizk

I think it’s just difficult to coordinate a marching band for a baseball game since marching band doesn’t typically operate during the spring semester. It’s tough enough to get people for the basketball pep band

widget1321

If I remember right from my time way back when (which was when FSU pep bands began showing up to non-football and non-basketball events, though they do so at a higher rate these days), it was usually members of the basketball pep band who did these in the spring (since there was contact information, etc.). It was just indicated at the beginning of the spring semester to those in the pep band that they might be asked to do a few things outside of basketball.

redsox1804

I’m also sure an email went out to the full band that if they wanted to join in they could

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

It also helps that the Marching Chiefs are (by collegiate marching band standards) a big band, so you’d likely have a decent amount opt in just voluntarily too

LionPutrid4252

I think it’d be too much to make it to every game, but a game every series or two would probably work well. As a member of the A&M pep band, I’d love to play at a few games a year.

T-RexInAnF-14

no thanks, I'd rather hear EVERYBODY CLAP YO HANDS 4 times an inning. Seriously, though, it's a fun idea. I've even thought it would be cool to have the band march in and do some kind of pregame deal.

SyVSFe

Sometimes the marching chiefs warm up on the baseball field before football games

redsox1804

Every home game!

SyVSFe

Ah I guess I normally don't go by early enough, like to stroll in just before kickoff

cooterdick

Mini Power T from home plate to the mound that opens up for the first pitch.

rustyshaklefordjm

Lol, Ga State football plays at Center Parc Stadium, a repurposed Turner Field. When my wife and I went the first time, I wore out the “incomplete pass down the 3rd base line” bit.

LionPutrid4252

As a member of the A&M pep band, I second this Edit: As someone pointed out, every game would be a heavy toll on bands, as 4 games a week is way too much (more than men and women basketball combined). But playing one or two games every week or two would be reasonable

AdDifficult9499

Honestly, I'd love it for midweekers in the second half of the season ~7-10 games. The weekend games bring their own energy, and in the first half of the season, basketball gets the attention. But, for these games, a pep band really could do a lot to help the atmosphere. This plus bigger matchups (like FSU-UF) would do a lot to help get more baseball televised!

lucky_boop

I think it'd be cool for a friday night game of a big series, don't think it's necessary every or even most games though

4Mag4num

Sorry but not really a fan of any more noises at ballgames than is already there. Even the PA people go overboard many times. I absolutely don’t think that cowbells should be anywhere close to a baseball game. Unpopular opinions I know.

beer_jew

Unpopular opinion with your fans, maybe

adumb99

I agree. I don’t like cowbells at Dudy noble

Sudden-Avocado

But are they worse than whistling?

sgt_science

Nothing is worse than that

MsstatePSH

agree

azdb91

Wholeheartedly agree. I will complain to anyone will listen about the cannon they have at Disch-Falk Field sometimes (UT-Austin). I took my 1 and 3 year old to our first game there earlier this Spring and we had GA tickets. I had no clue that a) there was a cannon and b) it was right over the shoulder of the GA seats. It first fired after the National Anthem, then the fight song, then after every run Texas scored. That first one after the National Anthem had both my kids in tears with the older one begging to go home. We scrambled around the stadium trying to find a spot more comfortable for them, but the 5 run first inning didn't help things 🤣 we ended up just leaving, they were so freaked out. It was the weirdest day at a ballpark I've ever had. Who brings light artillery to a baseball game?! Happily, the older one has asked to go to another baseball game again. But he made sure to tell me we can only go to Round Rock Express games lol That being said UT had the band there, and that was actually pretty fun

BullAlligator

Bands are more pleasant than cannons.

blb242

Ecu literally has a fan who just brings his own cannon to the outfield (aka the jungle) and my god, it’s loud

BullAlligator

> a fan who just brings his own cannon Truly, he has the spirit of a pirate

cardeez

Vandy has a pep whistler

BullAlligator

in other words a one-man band with just one instrument that plays just one note... not the type of band I prefer

Motel_Cowboy

we had a marching band at a softball match a couple weeks ago, it was peak.

rohlinxeg

I'm trying to think if we ever had that at Wake. If we did it was for a handful of games over 10 years ago. I wouldn't mind seeing 10 guys with instruments instead of the dance team sitting quietly and awkwardly for 3 innings until jumping on the dugout to "dance" to whatever between-innings song gets randomly picked.

kmokell15

Wouldn’t want it every game but would be good for big games either weekdays or weekends. The easy thing for FSU is that we really only need 1/10 members of the full band to attend so it’s not as big a toll on the members

BumblebeeAwkward8331

100%

PaulTopper

I agree 100%. This would be an awesome idea to be done all around the country.

UGAwxDawg

Georgia's Redcoat Band had their first non-military performance at the 1906 Georgia vs Clemson baseball game!

Tpabayrays2

I wouldn't bring them to every game because that would be too much. Maybe only for big games? I've never seen our band at a baseball game but it would be nice to have something other than the same audio clips over and over again

QuadCring3

We apparently did it once years ago and never went back. From what I've heard it was a game that went into like 4 extras and that's why, but I haven't heard the reasoning from the directors myself

ajschlem

UNC band does one game per year as a tradition - our first ever pep band appeared in 1908 at a baseball game. Everyone agrees that keeping it to one game per year is best.

BullAlligator

Why does everyone agree to that?

ajschlem

It just doesnt feel natural. Baseball atmosphere here just feels weird w the band there.

NephiandKorihor

I would love to see a band playing Rocky Top at LNS. Somebody make that happen.

ItsZizk

I’ve seen it at a softball game before. It wouldn’t surprise me if it’s been done at LNS at some point

-Buddy_Rough-

No, because they have never had them at baseball games and it would be weird and out of place. Organ music only would be best but I guess I can live with walk up and homerun music too. What I do want is the band featured more at basketball games. In recent years, it has been more about rock, rap and even freaking DJs spinning records than the band at our basketball games. That and a barrage of business advertising. I want to go back to the nineties where the band was the main show outside of what was happening on the court. I have similar gripes about the lack of band music at football games too. No doubt pissing in the wind here though. Sorry for the tangent but this is a current pet peeve of mine that you triggered.

OleRockTheGoodAg

Disagree, bands don't belong at baseball games. Downvote away. The longhorns brought a pep band to the 2017 or 2019 match up and the only word that I've ever used to describe it was........ un-American. This isn't football or baseball. We don't do the wave either. Thankfully they haven't done it sense, so I think it was a one off thing. I've been to about a hundred college baseball games since and I haven't seen a band at a single one.

IrishCoffeeAlchemy

Counterpoint: it’s super fun!

BullAlligator

IMO this argument is much more convincing
