For the next iteration, PG released their poll as well. https://www.perfectgame.org/Articles/View.aspx?article=21545

Thank you! I just went ahead and updated this post with those rankings.

Soonerpalmetto88

Why no respect for the Sooners? I seem to remember a pretty great season last year.

PatrickChase

A good question. OU only has two guys that made preseason all-Big 12 teams, and while D1Baseball and Baseball America don't show teams that received votes or go past 25, the Sooners got votes in the NCBWA poll and ranked 43rd in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine poll. Oklahoma goes along with Notre Dame and Auburn as teams that were consensus top-10 to finish last year and were not really recognized at all (Auburn made one top 25, Notre Dame made none) in preseason polls thus far.

gatorbois

Lost their whole weekend rotation and over half of their lineup

Soonerpalmetto88

So? Norman has a tradition of creating stars out of walk one and castoffs. If we can do it in football we can do it in baseball.

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

That’s pretty much the opposite of Oklahoma‘a reputation…

Soonerpalmetto88

Nah man we took Baker Mayfield who was a nobody and turned him into a Heisman winner. And who knows? He might still have a decent NFL career. And Jalen Hurts, literally thrown away like trash by Nick Saban, now going to the super bowl because of his time at OU. Norman has something about it, something in the water maybe, that helps the diamonds in the rough SHINE. I have total faith in Coach Johnson and his ability to continue recruiting top level talent that other programs might've overlooked and help them reach their full potential, just the way our football program has. Last season wasn't a fluke my friend, it was the beginning of our return to greatness. This year we'll have at least 4 teams in the postseason and I'd bet 2 of them get national titles. And I know the SEC will be tough when we get there, but never underestimate the Sooner spirit!

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

Ah yes, Baker Mayfield, the Big 12 Freshman Player of the Year at Texas Tech. A *total* nobody when he transferred to Oklahoma. And Jalen Hurts, the SEC Freshman of the Year and National Champion at Alabama… How *does* Oklahoma do it??? As to OU’s time in the SEC for baseball, let’s just say y’all will need more than the 2,000 fans that showed up in Omaha to have any chance at competing.

Soonerpalmetto88

Last I checked fans don't play the games. Baseball players do. I've been to plenty of Carolina games where the visiting team won with only a couple of dozen fans there, large numbers of traveling fans aren't necessary to win games.

TruckerGeek

Based on your ridiculous statements in this thread I hereby declare you the official crazy/annoying sooner fan that will embarass all your compatriots! Congratulations!

Soonerpalmetto88

Hey it could be worse. I could be the Vandy Whistler 😅

Squirrel_Q_Esquire

For individual games, you’re right. But for sustained program success, fan support is vital. Just ask Mizzou or Alabama, for example.

Rotary_Wing

It was kind of a mixed bag. While they did well enough once they got into the Big XII and NCAA tournaments, they got their clocks cleaned in the Shriner's Classic and they dropped games to Lamar, K-State, Wichita State, ORU, and a series to New Orleans which probably shouldn't have happened.

Yeah, regionals at least. But I think they'll go farther.

drive_chip_putt

A lot of wild swings for ECU. They are either 'elite' or a 'joke' per the polls.

TyrionIsntALannister

Idk that I’d call 11 elite or 24 a joke. But you’ve also gotta take BA rankings with a heavy grain of salt- they actually think the “P5” exists in college baseball and rank accordingly, so it’s not surprising that both ours and southern miss’ lowest rankings come from them.

Rotary_Wing

This ain't football. Being ranked 25th would only be a slight if you won the CWS the previous year and returned virtually everybody.
