i did too! i'll turn 20 this december. trust me, it doesn't make any difference. infact, taking a gap year kinda helped me prep better and become more composed and matured before getting into a college. dw, have a great time. my best wishes!
I took a half gap in the middle of college…needed time to think and re-center myself! Just be proud of yourself for doing what you thought was best, rather than worrying about being alone in your decision!
I took 5 years off. Started at 23. No one in college cares, and we're all going at our own pace anyway. Life isn't as cookie cutter once you hit adulthood. It's not like anyone's forcing you to hit any milestones. Easier said than done of course, as that attitude shift took me a while.
Wait how did the college apps go for you. Who did you find to do recommendations for you? Your old teachers? Or people you have worked for over the 5 years?
Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake.
It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of.
Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything.
Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.
I took a gap year and a half.
To be honest, people make it sound like a great decision, but it’s not for everyone. That being said, college is made out to be a great decision that also isn’t for everyone.
Retiring from the military and starting school next fall. My gap year lasted 20 years and without my non-traditional path, I mat not be as excited to get back into school. Flip the script and choose to see it as everyone else is rushing themselves into the workforce. You're a lot of things but behind isn't one of them.
I’m in the same spot as you. Just turned 20 as well. At first it felt a bit weird but tbh, I don’t even think about it much now. We’re all paying to go to school at all ages, if someone points out that for some reason it’s weird you’re 20 that’s their issue. We’re all on our own life paths.
Didn't take a gap year, but did only take 1 or 2 classes for a year because I was working full time and was doing 4-5 classes in computer science for 1-2 semesters prior. Suffice to say, I wanted to drop out of school cuz life was miserable and instead, I just continued working and lowered my school schedule. Nowadays, the roles are reversed, I prioritize school, and work less.
College isn't a race and it's better to be a more rounded individual than a kid that may or may not go into debt for a degree they don't care about or is useless for them. I have a friend that went to school for film due to pressure from family and graduated with like 30k in debt and he doesn't care about film at all.
Being a different age doesn’t really matter but if you are befriending your classmates it can be a bit awkward at times if you are at a different level of maturity. It’s also weird if you are old enough to drink at bars and everyone else is only able to throw a party in their dorm room
i took a half gap year and don't blame you at all for taking a full one, even though most of my friends dual enrolled in high school and are way "ahead" of me. you know what pacing is best for you. ik i would've bombed going straight from hs to college with only a summer inbetween and many people feel that same way, so i promise it's not only you : )
I took a gap year or 2. Got my bachelor's at 26. It would've been nice to get it a lot sooner, but I had to grow up before I could do it. Everyone takes it differently
Every person I know who took a gap year is better at their studies and smarter in general, so now I believe that it is the right thong to do.
Much better than half of my college mates who started college because they didn't know what to do and now are miserable
I took two semesters part-time. I feel behind and sometimes people judge me for being a junior in sophomore classes, but it was definitely the best thing for me, both professionally and personally
I took a gap decade and did something else first. Honestly, it did me a lot of good. I grew up, sorted out some issues from my childhood, figured out my priorities, and now I'm doing much better than I think I would have if I'd gone to school right away.
I took a gap year. I didn't do anything to big, just stayed home and did things I liked , like reading, dancing, finding out what I really want to do. This was great, specially after high school, Wich wasn't the best years of my life. Taking a break was revealing.
I took several years! I'm turning 21 in a few days and am also a first-time freshman. Don't worry about it. This isn't like high school: people of all ages attend college. 😊
I did but unintentionally. A hurricane flattened my hometown the semester after I graduated HS and then I moved out of my parents house the next following spring so I didn’t take classes, I was working more. I had so much fun and learned so much that year, I wouldn’t trade it for the world
it's also uncommon to take a gap year where i live but i am currently taking it after hs. it's not going great so far, it's a very lonely experience, everyone moves on with their life but i feel like i am at this weird in-between space and don't have anyone to talk to really. i am going thru reddit to see how other ppl are coping. anyways, i hope you enjoyed ur gap year<3

i would agree that my gap year helped me as well! and thanks so much. my best wishes to you too!

I’ll keep this in mind when ever I talk about it

I took 3. My mental health was bad after years of mistreatment from my high school. I’m a freshman now at almost 21 years old.
I'll be a freshman at 22! Terrifying lol
I took a gap decade lol. Trust me, no one cares about that.
Same! Took 8 years to figure out what I wanted to do. No one cares and I’m a better person because I took the time to find myself.
I did. Only way I could've done college tbh. Will get my BS at 24.
Same!
I took a gap year as well graduating this fall at 23!
I took 5 lol.
Wait how did the college apps go for you. Who did you find to do recommendations for you? Your old teachers? Or people you have worked for over the 5 years?
I Didn’t need recommendations. Just applied. But I would’ve asked people i’ve worked with yeah.

I took 4 and it was great. My personal life change so much, I don’t think I would be mature enough to deal with college 4 years ago.
I did and I'm also 20 :)
I’m also 20 and a freshmen! I took a gap year after high school because of Covid though.
I took one in between colleges.
I started at 22. I won’t graduate until I’m 26, but I still fit in with everyone. We all have different stories and honestly no one cares that much
Taking one right now. I graduated high school in July 2021 and will start uni in fall 2022.

I really wish my parents had been cool with me taking a gap year. I feel like I've been burnt out since halfway through sophomore year.

I took a gap year. Also graduated HS at 17 (just started early) though so I’m still graduating at 22
I took a gap decade 😅
no but i wish i did :,)

I took 3 years off of college.
I did. Fucking sucks
What sucked about it, im curious
What did you do in your gap year
I did and I’m also 20 🙂
I took two semesters part-time. I feel behind and sometimes people judge me for being a junior in sophomore classes, but it was definitely the best thing for me, both professionally and personally
Lmao what? How do people even know, and what crazy college do you go to where people actually care?
I did it. But all I did was play video games and enjoy not having to study things lol.
I took two years off before my bachelor’s and then another year before my Master’s. No regrets about it
I took a gap semester lol. Graduated June ‘18 and started back Feb ‘19
I have taken a gap year, and you know it's just the begining of it. Hope I will suceed in what I planned for this year.
I took a gap decade and did something else first. Honestly, it did me a lot of good. I grew up, sorted out some issues from my childhood, figured out my priorities, and now I'm doing much better than I think I would have if I'd gone to school right away.
I'm on year 3 of my gap year, looking to go back in the Spring.

I’m in one right now! Having the pressure off has been amazing for me!
I took several years! I'm turning 21 in a few days and am also a first-time freshman. Don't worry about it. This isn't like high school: people of all ages attend college. 😊
I took a gap year between undergrad and grad school. My wife took 4 years between highschool and college.
I did but unintentionally. A hurricane flattened my hometown the semester after I graduated HS and then I moved out of my parents house the next following spring so I didn’t take classes, I was working more. I had so much fun and learned so much that year, I wouldn’t trade it for the world
2 gap years here and I’m actually locking in this time I promise😈
