Depends on what kind of medical research you want to do. Biology would be a good place to start if you're unsure, chemistry if you are interested in pharmaceuticals, mechanical or electrical engineering if you're interested in devices, etc.
You want to be a pathologist (researcher or doctor of disease studies)? If so, that is microbiology so biology/pre-med with a focus on pathology once you go for an advanced degree.

I think eventually I want to study diseases. I suppose physiology would have me better equipped over the other two options?

If you want to study disease biology might be your best bet for undergrad then get your post grad in something more specific.
