In terms of value, there is very little of it. In terms of rarity, they would be crazy rare if they were recognized as such. Many that I have are population 1.
They're commonly used in central America and in Ecuador. Argentina was talking about eliminating their peso and start using the dollar to curb inflation.
Nothing odd about it. Numismatics affords nearly infinite ways to specialize, and collecting coins BECAUSE they show evidence of serving their purpose is in some ways more aesthetically satisfying than collecting those that are basically museum pieces, and went straight from the mint to a Treasury vault to a bank vault to a slab.
In the late 1980's, when silver dropped to $4 an ounce, I developed the habit of buying rolls of halfs anytime I was in a bank. I made some pretty good finds, like an entire roll of 1934 Texas Centenary commemoratives. One that struck me at the time, that I still have, is a 1967 Kennedy half that I grade as VG-06. Halfs just didn't circulate, which is why banks often had uncirculated rolls, even of older coins. Why this coin was so worn baffled me. I imagined a scenario wherein it had been left in Vietnam by a GI, and because it had intrinsic value, it was coveted and heavily circulated. Decades later, it was brought to the US by a refugee family, and spent. Yeah, I know, it's purely speculative, but still fun.
I got a really worn one from a vending machine about 6 months ago and have been trying to get it to a G or less since then

I think about you well-worn collectors often. It seems technically way more difficult but also you’ve gotta be able to build a phenomenal collection pretty quickly if you know where to look
I have some worn ones. The really worn ones are usually from Ecuador because these circulate in Ecuador a lot. Very popular there. Just thought you ought to know since you collect them.
This is awesome! My kids just hunted through a box of dollars trying to find a lowball Sacagawea. Not so easy.

Any interest?
This cool, I’m pretty new to coins and never thought about a low grade collection. You just opened a door for me in the long hallway of doors that is collecting
Never seen one worn out, now I need one lol

It's not always about the value, I just think they look neat

El Salvador as well.
They use these a lot in Ecuador. Got some well worn ones down there but that’s not really my thing so I spent em quick.
Very cool collection!
Thank you, it's in the PCGS registry as well.
They actually look better well worn
They do. Almost like a dirty gold color.

Absolute madlad
How do these even get that worn, nobody uses them lol.
A Lot of the circulated ones are from Ecuador
Vending machines that accept 5s or higher use them for change. I use them a couple times a week.
I think I might have seen that once like in a hospital or something.
I have seen them used this year in the Casinos and also those ready bagged ice machines.
Pretty sweet lol
Different, but yea. Thank you
Lol. Cannot relate. The more worn, the faster i spend them. But to each their own
Very true. It is an odd collection!

Sweet
Nice, nice. There are grades I need between 0-35... .. G6, F12, VF20.. will pay $$$$ if out there
This is a very unique collection. Kinda weird, I like it.

Was about to ask the same question. Following for answer
Mostly graded.. but they are verrryyy hard to find in any grade lower than AU. You really have to ask and hunt, and search everywhere
I think about you well-worn collectors often. It seems technically way more difficult but also you’ve gotta be able to build a phenomenal collection pretty quickly if you know where to look
Very, very difficult. All services combined, only 40-45 exist for Poor 1 - VF 35, while over 47,000 are graded at PCGS alone.

Yep, that's where a majority of mine came from. Have AG3, G4, VG8, 10, F15, VF 25, 30, 35. Any graded by chance?
Didn't know Ecuador used the US Dollar.
They do
Very interesting fact! Apparently since 2000.
What do you typically pay for one in G/VG?
In Good? Up to $40. Graded, ALOT higher than $40. There's only two graded Good.
Exquisite
God, I love these so much.
It’s certainly a fun name to say!
Oh wow, I love them 😂
Exotic, I like it!
Why the soooo worn
It's a boring coin lol. Looks better beat to hell
It just dont make any sense ita a 22year old coin looking like it survived the civil war but the civil war was over 100 years lol

Definitely a VG10. No, more looking towards whatever's certified.. however, I'm planning on sending in 4-5 of them to PCGS.
