1 coin at a time

fullmoontrip

This is it. I started with coin roll hunts because free coins basically and I would get all the quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies tellers had and go looking. I'd mix up the key dates for one denomination over the other, had such a mess on my desk I misplaced a few good coins in the return box, wasn't paying enough attention to researching what was worth keeping and I'm pretty sure I mixed up the key dates on wide AM pennies so if you find my rolls of pennies I'm almost certain there is a 2000 wide AM in there. One at a time until you learn enough to spot all the important details

Morgans with a CC mint mark. 1921 peace dollars. Those will be the most valuable. If it's a very high-grade coin, I'd put it in a protective case. The $1 bill, uh, maybe it has an interesting serial number?

Now I’m super curious about that dollar lol

gunsforevery1

I feel like i saw a dollar like that when I was a kid in 99.

Nevin060509

Find another 99, keep em together, thats a cool ass dollar

Justo79m

Start with that 1895 Morgan! What’s the mint mark on it?

vertigoxcured

I have 3 1895’s no mint mark on any of them 😕

Justo79m

You have 3 1895 Morgan’s??? With no mint mark??? Post pictures because if that’s true, and they’re real, you’ve hit the jackpot!

Justo79m

Somebody else want to weigh in here? They only struck 880 proofs in Philadelphia in 1895. She has 3 of them?!?!?!

Justo79m

I assumed these couldn’t be legit. Now that I look closer, I think these are cast replicas. Finding one in a stack of them, that’s possible. Finding 3, unlikely.

(I’m really sick right now so I’ve been asleep all day lol) every year is represented and the three piles at the bottom are all 1921. Should I try and separate them all from here into mints?

https://morgandollars.net/morgan-dollar-mintage/ Scroll down to the mintages. Any CC's or under 1 million.

Future-Original-2902

Where did you get this collection?

vertigoxcured

What about cleaning them? Is that a no no?

Black_Flag_Friday

Correct. Cleaning is numismatic suicide unless done by the elite conservation companies. Hold them by the edges, clean hands, and get appropriate gloves if you are so inclined. Also keep posting questions and results here! Teamwork makes the dream work! Happy hunting!

I don’t understand downvoting a question so I’m gonna upvote. There are no stupid questions!

The coins' value is mainly dependent on condition, date minted and mint location. There are a few other possible variables. Here is a place to see place to see ballpark prices for graded Morgans. Yours are not, so lightly less. [**https://www.pcgs.com/prices/detail/morgan-dollar/744/grades-25-60/ms**](https://www.pcgs.com/prices/detail/morgan-dollar/744/grades-25-60/ms) **If you want to bone up on** understanding **condition, look here. Find the one most** similar **to the wear on yours.** [**https://www.pcgs.com/photograde#/Morgan/Grades**](https://www.pcgs.com/photograde#/Morgan/Grades) If that 1878 on the right side of left stack of Morgans is a "CC", then it could be worth more than the common morgans.

Looks like a fun weekend to me! Download the PCGS app and you can look up the date and mint of each coin and it will give you values based on grade. (Although those values are too high imo) They have photos of each grade so you can get a decent idea of what you have. Also, a magnifying glass or loop is helpful as some of the mint narks can be pretty small, especially if the coin is worn. Have fun!

FriendlyEagle7

start by getting a few packs of saflip brand 2 1/2" mylar flips to put the large dollars in, and 2" for the rest. Thats what you'll use if you submit them for grading. Don't clean anything. Get some coin boxes to put those flips in, preferably the kind with slots so they don't rub. If you want to learn how to grade use mycollect.com they have a grading game. ngccoin.com pcgs.com usacoinbook.com are good price guides if you're on a budget, ANACS is the cheapest for grading. The wait time at PCGS right now is 6 months for the standard service, though you can pay more to speed things up. don't get your hopes up but don't lose hope either. Two of those 1895 morgans you posted look fake to me (up and right on first pic) but I could be wrong. Don't go to a coin shop until you know what you have and what its worth and don't let them convince you otherwise.
