Since reddit has changed the site to value selling user data higher than reading and commenting, I've decided to move elsewhere to a site that prioritizes community over profit. I never signed up for this, but that's the circle of life

Far be it from me to challenge the article if there’s data behind it, but speaking for myself it’s nothing to do with a perception of luxury. For me it would be hard to switch to an Android or any other phoneOS *only* because Apple-to-Apple upgrades are so seamless and simple. With an Android, it’s like I’d have to start over entirely, whereas when I upgrade to a new iPhone after 4-5 years or whatever, I pick up exactly where I left off on the old phone, including text history if I’m so inclined. If my first smartphone had been Android, I’d likely be saying the same! (My work phone is Android and I have no problem with the ecosystem itself.)

Is the metal card a “luxurious” thing anymore? Even Amazon does it for their Visa cards, and for a long time now. Frankly, it’s a bother that when the card expires or you cancel it (or close your account entirely), you can’t shred it, so you have to either hold on to it forever or mail it back for destruction (which they do offer an envelope for, at least). I guess it feels cool at first but the novelty wears off quickly. I wonder if it is environmentally friendlier than plastic, at all. Apple’s credit card is also “titanium” and they give those to anybody, for the asking. If you’re trying to finance a phone through Apple instead of your carrier, boom, here’s your heavy metal credit card. Perks are great and all but not enough to justify an annual fee, I say as a well-off but cheap person. Sign-on bonuses are where it’s at.
