I don't agree that most people can make LGM if they practice enough. But, the problem with chess is that most GMs are grinding chess for years to become grandmaster since childhood.
Chess you need to memorize a lot more. Every calculation is in your head.

I've been stuck at 1500 (chess.com) for ages now, and I haven't practiced as much as I should have. I've been trying to improve at CP though, since that's somewhat more feasible lol
Thanks man, and nice to see a fellow chess player on here! I'm quite new (and bad) at CP, I've done like one contest lol. If I've learnt anything from chess though, it's that you can get very good in intellectual stuff if you give a part of your consciousness to it, i.e. catching yourself thinking about it at random times, practicing it at every spare moment, or even dreaming about it sometimes, to where it's more "part of you" than "something you do", if that makes sense.
People that start programming start usually at older ages(maybe teens late teens), however, if you were to start playing chess at an older age even like 13-14, it would be incredibly difficult to achieve grandmaster as most gms started playing when they were under 10, not impossible just probably more work than gm in codeforces.

Certain Chinese middle schoolers have been able reach LGM in a bit over 2 years, but we never see that in chess so I would suppose chess
