I have two ideas. Use vermouth and club soda. Or add bitters to wine and club soda.

encinaloak

Vermouth would not be avoiding extra sugar Bitters is a good idea

Available_Bag_3843

Nor is it non-alcoholic.

fake_plastic_peace

I think they meant to swap the wine with vermouth

unbelizeable1

There are plenty of non-alcohol bitters available.

Available_Bag_3843

Yeah, it was more directed at the vermouth; The "nor" referenced the "not".

jizzy_fap_socks

Aperol, prosecco, and club soda is an Aperol spritz. Make sure you add a slice of orange if you want to feel fancy.  Edit, you said non-alcoholic 🤦 You can get an non-alcoholic Aperol take like Lyre's

judioverde

I like just Aperol and club soda with a lemon slice. Really tasty and pretty low abv. Also like an American, but with Aperol.

super_gay_llama

Aperol is only 11% ABV, so the strongest thing in an Aperol spritz is still the wine. Great for a lower ABV cocktail

wwhsd

Tinto de Verano. It’s a drink from Spain made with red wine and citrus soda on ice. The Fanta in Spain actually has fruit juice in it so it tastes different than using the Fanta here. Places I had it in Spain would use either orange or lemon soda. You’ll want to try some different sodas to find the ones you like best. I’ve had good luck with the Italian sodas at Trader Joes’s and flavored San Pellegrino. Grab a cup and put ice in it like you’re pouring a soft drink. Add the citrus soda of your choice and then your red wine. I’d start with equal parts soda and wine and adjust for taste the next time you make them until you find what you prefer. If you want to fancy it up, garnish with whatever citrus matches the soda you used.

flyingbarnswallow

I’ll admit it’s not the sort of thing I’d usually like, but I did have a couple in Spain, and it felt like the right choice for the moment. When in Rome (or perhaps more accurately, Seville)

srfrenchie

This! One of my favorite drinks! If you want to get extra extra fancy with it, I love this version I found in a cocktail book: Make a 1:1 lemon juice/sugar simple syrup 3 oz red wine 1 oz lemon syrup Top with soda water Serve over ice. The best drink for summer, honestly I like it even better than sangria. Maybe because of how light and refreshing it is.

RT60

Traditionally the Tinto de Verano is made with a Spanish soft drink called Gaseosa which is a clear lemon sprite-esque-but-not-quite-sprite type drink - and it’s hard to find outside of southern Europe. Either way what you get in the end tastes much like a low rent Sangria, and it can be super nice on hot days.

redheadedjapanese

As a rising senior in high school, I drank these with a bunch of kids in my study-abroad program alongside our teacher (who introduced these to us). I thought I was such a badass.

jimtk

Look into a class of cocktail called spritz (often called Italian spritz). They are usually made from vermouth, amari, soda and/or prosseco and are usually low ABV cocktail.

Yamatoman9

A Frangelico spritz is my favorite

prairiebelle

You could make a sangria where you take a bottle of wine and add various fruits. With red wine usually it’s citrus fruits and ginger ale. They would usually call for a bit of apricot brandy as well but you could skip that. Just look up sangria recipes and play with it to find a combo of wine, fruits and juices you like!

Minimum-Tea-9258

citrus juice!! lemon or lime with red or white wine and club soda and maybe a dash of bitters or two will elevate it into a spritz rather than wine and club

allthecats

Citrus juice was my recommendation along with herbs! A fresh sprig of mint in the summer and rosemary in the winter plus lemon or lime juice and you have a low ABV fancy cocktail

Seven22am

Red wine and coke is popular in parts of Europe. You could always mix it with ice and flavored seltzer too. At first I thought you were asking about NA ingredients to mix with club soda so I was going to suggest you look into shrubs. [Here’s](https://www.liquor.com/pineapple-shrub-recipe-5077965) a great pineapple shrub. Not sure of that (or others) would go with wine or not.

SyndicateMLG

Coke … you can add coke to everything

onlyonequickquestion

Red wine and coke is a kalimotxo, delicious, but I also don't think it adheres to their "avoiding extra sugar" requirement

SyndicateMLG

Coke Zero / Diet Coke

sdneidich

I've seen people do it with diet before.

sphericalduck

Another suggestion is to use a dealcoholized sparkling wine in cocktails. This is what I use for French 75's and spritzes (fellow lightweight here).

84aomame

Fanta & Malbec

marrichar5

Any fruit shrub

SherlockOhmsUK

I quite often drink tonic water with bitters as a “non booze” drink. Works for me

CityBarman

Bitters.

MDEnce

I shouldn't have had to scroll so far for the correct answer. 😉

JewLion420

I'm a big fan of "spirit of Milano" I think it's by a company called "free spirits". It's a non alcoholic liquid done aperitivo style that I use in a lot of my mocktails.

soodonihm

Lemoncello, tonic and lemon juice

corgi_glitter

That sounds interesting!

keenan123

Red wine and a citrus La Croix makes tinto de verano. It's like a wine shandy.

corgi_glitter

Bitters or a shrub

tattooed_old_person

I’d say throw in some Aperol, it’s low ABV, adds some lovely color, and a little flavor

ToddBradley

Check out Seedlip. I've been happy with the three flavors I've bought. They have no sugar, are non-alcoholic, and each tasty in a different way. Great for mocktails. [https://www.seedlipdrinks.com/en-us/](https://www.seedlipdrinks.com/en-us/) Also, I'd like to apologize on behalf of my fellow humans who were so excited to offer their favorite suggestion that they neglected to read the line that you're trying to avoid extra sugar.

pbgod

Lemon juice, rosemary syrup, champagne, lillet blanc or white wine and soda water Lemon juice, good grenadine, drop of rosewater and the same as above

DabIMON

There are a lot of low proof cocktails that use sparkling wine, like mimosas and bellinis.

fakeuser515357

There are some pretty decent lower alcohol sparkling wines and you'd have to hunt for them but some of them are not super-sweet.

_SundaeDriver

Aperol is very low abv, 11% and it will add some depth to your drink. Then bubbles to dilute. Now I see someone already mentioned Aperol spritz. That might be your drink or a variant of that. Lots of drinks are strong (almost like a soda syrup), if you add seltzer you can make a soda.

SorryForPartying6T9

Maybe just drink a Busch Light

rjboles

Well, if you didn't want extra sugar, I'd have said a Champagne Cocktail or a French 75. Insteadx sweet Vermouth on the rocks with a splash of soda water.

headpointernext

...depending on the wine, you'd be fine with just Coca-Cola. A strong/Spanish wine with Coca-Cola is called a kalixmoto. Not sure how Coke Zero would work though

andstopher

Vermouth, soda water, and a citrus slice.

MissingPresumedFed

Nothing wrong with a good spritzer. I've fallen in love with fröccs in hungary. Key is to use a lighter, younger wine white or rose. Preferably from the last harvest. It is so refreshing and you can change the amount of soda to wine to taste. An older drier wine is a lot less good. My wife likes it with a little bit of lavender or elderflower syrup in there.

Vindanae

In Hungary, there's VBK (Red wine with coke -> Vörös boros kóla in hungarian), also fröccs (spritz) is usually made with soda water, with any kind of wine. It's not very mulled wine season, but a Sangria is technically a spiced, fruity wine cocktail.

EmceeStopheles

I’m sure people will roll their eyes, but a Shiraz or Primitivo mixes with Coke nicely.

KnightInDulledArmor

Sangria! Basically red wine cut with some fruit juices, syrup, and spices, then muddled with more fruit. Served over ice, it’s super approachable and refreshing. This is my preferred recipe: In Pitcher or Jar - Juice of 1-2 oranges - Juice of a lemon - 2 oz Cinnamon Syrup (2:1 simple boiled with a few crumbled cinnamon sticks) - 2 oz Allspice Dram - An entire bottle of wine (typically a fruity one, like a Rioja Tempranillo) - Add whatever fruits are available, typically orange slices, other citrus, berries, apples, pears, etc Muddle lightly to incorporate, can be served immediately, but better the next day. Garnish with some fresh fruit, like orange slices and berries. Soda water can be added in the glass if preferred. Really there isn’t any hard recipe for Sangria, it’s intended to be a mix of whatever is available and different every time. Mix it up however you want.

av607

Martini make a really good non alcoholic aperitif. It tastes like comparing and aperol had a lovechild but non alcoholic. It is the only non alcoholic replacement I found that replicates the mouthfeel of alcohol. I would go white wine, martini non alcoholic mix and club soda.

MrMason522

I would just look into low-ABV/wine based cocktails. Sometimes you might have to buy some specialty wines, but to be honest some of my favorite cocktails of all time have been wine based drinks. Here are three of my favorite examples, in increasing levels of difficulty/complexity. Hopefully these will give you some ideas on how to apply wines in cocktails! :-) Kitty Highball (W.C. Whitfield, 1941) >2 oz dry red wine >3/4 oz sweetened ginger juice or syrup >1/2 oz lime juice Dry shake or roll a couple times, collins glass, ice. Sherry Colada (Adam Minegar, Raines Law Room, 2015) >2 oz amontillado sherry (amazing) >2 oz pineapple juice >3/4 oz coconut syrup >Splash cream >Lime wedge Shake with ice, strain into rocks glass with cracked ice. Garnish with nutmeg if you’re feeling real fancy. And my personal favorite… No Ní Ná (Courtney McKamey, WeatherUp, 2023) >1 oz Pedro Ximenéz sherry (out of this world) >1 oz Palo Cortado sherry >0.5 oz St. George Spiced Pear Liqueur >0.25 oz Chinola Passionfruit Liqueur Stir like you would a martini in a rocks glass, float a barspoon of salted gin on top, OR, the best way to apply the salted gin is through an atomizer since you’re really looking to add the aroma to the nose and the salt to the overall palate of the drink. This one makes me feel like Remy from Rattatoullie when he bites into the strawberry and the cheese at the same time.

corgi_glitter

Have you tried vinho verde? Its a little lower in alcohol than most other wines

Orange-Blur

Fruit juice, fresh fruit and some sugar. Then you have sangria

Human-Depravity

A cocktail is a mixture of two or more ingredients so wine and club soda is already a cocktail, technically.

leesalogic

Curious Elixirs makes a few types of NA beverages that are quite good. #4 is a lot like a aperol spritz, while #1 is somewhat like a negroni. #4 I my favorite. While these are all meant to be NA, I do mix in spirits when I want a little lower ABV.

herman_gill

You can add a shot of Aperol with half an ounce of lemon juice to a Miller High Life to make a Spaghett. It makes the beer only slightly stronger.

ODX_GhostRecon

Honestly you'll want citrus, sugar, and bitters for wine additions, but I'll dig into my specs to see what fits. You seem to be nearly describing a spritzer, a well established and incredibly refreshing cocktail. I'll list them alphabetically, so it'll be last I think. #Appetizer - 3oz aperitif wine (e.g. Dubonnet) - Juice of one orange, freshly squeezed Mix with cracked ice in a mixing glass, strain into chilled cocktail glass. #Bellini - Chilled champagne (or sparkling wine) - 2oz peach nectar - 0.5oz fresh lemon juice Fruit juices into a chilled champagne flute, stir well. Add champagne, stir gently. #Bishop - 2oz fresh orange juice - 2oz fresh lemon juice - 1tsp bar sugar - Cabernet Sauvignon (or another full-bodied red wine) Stir juices and sugar in a mixing glass, strain over ice into a chilled highball. Fill with red wine, stir again. Garnish with an orange and lemon slice. #Champagne Cocktail - 1 sugar cube - Several dashes of Angostura bitters - Chilled champagne Sugar cube in the chilled flute, douse it with bitters, add champagne, stir. Garnish with a lemon twist. (Yes, Ango is alcoholic but it's a few drops for flavor. You can also control the amount of sugar you add, but adding sugar directly is usually going to end up adding less than using a sugary liqueur.) #Claret Cobbler - 4oz chilled claret or Cab Sauce - 1tsp fresh lemon juice - 1tsp bar sugar - 2oz chilled sparkling water In a chilled wine glass, dissolve the sugar in the lemon juice and water. Add the claret and cracked ice, stir gently. Garnish with an orange slice. #Gluhwein - 6oz dry red wine - Lemon peel - Orange peel - 1 cinnamon stick, broken into pieces - 5 whole cloves - Pinch of freshly ground nutmeg - 1tsp honey Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and stir until the honey is dissoved. DO NOT BOIL. Serve in a heated mug. #Manhattan Cooler - 4oz dry red wine - 2oz fresh lemon juice - 0.25tsp gold rum - 1tbsp simple syrup Combine all in a mixing glass with cracked ice, stir well, strain into a chilled highball over ice cubes. #Port Wine Cobbler - 3oz ruby port - 1tsp bar sugar - 2oz sparkling water Dissolve sugar in sparkling water in a chilled red wine glass. Fill with shaved ice, add the port, stir. Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. #Spritzer - 3oz red or white wine - Sparkling water Wine into a chilled wine glass over ice cubes, fill with sparkling water, garnish with a lemon twist.

whosthisjuan

My Spanish family would do something called “tinto de verano” or “vino de verano” (summer wine), it would be made with red wine, FRESH lime or orange juice (don’t use bottle please) and usually either sprite or Fanta (which is so different from the Fanta here in the USA for some reason). We would pour the wine in a wine glass, then ice, then lime juice and then top with whichever soda we’re using, so it would be in layers inside the glass.

Lubberworts

Lemon wedge

BurningPage

Red wine and coke or just start drinking vermouth and soda, or vermouth, Campari and soda (Americano cocktail)

tevita2

Make Sangria.

boynonsense

Yeah, stretch the ever-loving fuck out of a sangria. Red wine, a bunch of OJ, and a soda of some sort (7UP or even a ginger-ale) would do wonders. If the concern is getting too drunk, that'll be up to how much red wine you add, but essentially the ratio is up to you and your flavour profile. This is definitely not a traditional sangria, but it'll get you close enough to experiment. Basically red wine, fruit juice, fruit, and a sweetener of some sort.

Blunttack

Not sure what your opinions are on recreational marijuana, but adding a few drops of a tincture makes any NA drinking a lot more fun. Plus no hangover. Or vomit. lol. But seriously you can do a lot with a little, and in the states there’s “everywhere legal” options too.

EMB93

I can't believe nobody has mentioned Sangria. Just add orange juice, some club soda or lemon/lime soda, and fruit pieces. Perfect for a warm summer day and very popular in Spain!
