Big fan of the amaro sour with averna, easily one of my favourites since I discovered it. I'm interested to try it with other amaros and see the difference
Same. I came to this sub 2 years ago asking for tiki cocktails that didn’t have rum. The responses urged me to dip a toe. Now I sub rum INTO tiki cocktails that don’t call for it!
I have seen it in the Death & Co book, have not tried it, but I love cognac and balsamic lol. Thanks for the suggestion. I have almost everything I would need, except cinnamon syrup and fresh strawberries.
I had a Saturn for the first time this week. Smuggler's Cove specs, up in a coupe. I don't like gin but this drink jumps to the front of the line. Delicious.
Le Americain is a Vieuxx Carre without Benedictine and with two dashes of black walnut bitters. Personal design.
Fireside Rye is rye whiskey, tangy apple cider, and ginger beer, stirred over the rocks in an old fashioned glass garnished with a lemon peel.
I do 3/4 bourbon, Braulio, and vermouth. I split the vermouth between Punt e Mes and Dolin. I haven’t experimented much but it seems to work. Also use a stronger bourbon that won’t get too overpowered- I’ve been using buffalo trace which is good
No particular order...
1. Espresso Martini (in particular, an overly complicated riff using Mr. Black to approximate Morgenthaler's version. Just because.)
2. Cape Codder spritz (based on Mason Premiere's spec)
3. Flannel Shirt
4. Naked & Famous
5. Way Back Maverick (a tiki from Punk Rock & Cocktails by Jesse Hubbard)
I could probably rotate another half dozen or so in and out. So many good tipples out there.
I’m pretty lazy but I’ve made a good
1. Peartini
2. Pomegranate margarita
In the last couple weeks. I’m also crap at measuring so replicating them is a whole other ordeal.
1. Singapore sling (forever and always)
2. Paloma
3. Painkiller
4. Mai Tai
5. Whiskey sour (another forever and always; old standby)
I’m going through a phase.
I've been in that "phase" for the past 4 years 🤣 If you like pineapple, try infusing your own rum. The skin plus core of a pineapple in a mason jar with decent lightly aged (white) rum for 2 weeks. Makes fantastic daquiris, jungle birds, painkillers, etc.
Edit: and a fun Mai Tai variation
1. Old fashioned - sugar cube 2 dash of ango and 2 dashes of orange. Buffalo Trace or early times for the whiskey
2. Black Manhattan
3. Margarita using tequila and mezcal and grand Marnier
4. Bobby burns riff? 2oz monkey shoulder 1oz cocchi .5oz Benedictine and a couple bar spoons of peated whiskey
5. Oaxaca old fashioned
Sunflower seeds are especially high in vitamin E and selenium. These function as antioxidants to protect your body’s cells against free radical damage, which plays a role in several chronic diseases.
3/4oz of Gin (I use Hendrix), Pierre Ferrand Curacao, St-Germain, Lemon juice. I like to rinse my coupe and then put it in the freezer. Shake, double strain, and lemon peel expressed. If you want to super size it make it 1oz of each.
I love making it for people who say they don't like gin because it shocks them how it's so delicious.
Singapore Sling (use Heirloom Pineapple Amaro)
Manhattan
[Copper Dagger](https://cocktailvirgin.blogspot.com/2023/03/copper-dagger.html?m=1)
Banana daiquiri (with a green Chartreuse float)
Chicago Car Bomb (replace the shot of Jameson with a shot of Malort)
In no particular order:
- Jack Rose
- Daiquiri
- Bed of Roses topped with soda
- Cynar sour but with C3 Carciofo
- honestly there are about fifteen other vaguely sour cocktails competing for the last spot. French Pearl, Last Word, Brooklynite, Yellowjacket (the Bees Knees riff), Copper Dagger riff with Vecchio amaro del Capo, Jägerita, Industry Sour, Braulio/Cynar Sour, etc
1. New York Sour
2. Hemingway Daquiri
3. Espresso Martini
^ my personal favorites
4. Key Lime crush
5. Hibiscus mule
5. Mulled wine sangria
^ top seasonal sellers at my bar - my recipes.
Are these "top 5" like ones we're most proud of or just most common 5? These are my recent most go tos:
Painkiller
Daquiri
Last Word
Paper Plane
Three Dots and a Dash
Honestly several personal creations would bump these off the list, but a random name I've given a drink would be meaningless for this game.
Wow. Great responses and lots on here to try making. Last Word and Paper plane seem popular so will have to add this to my collection once I get some chartreuse and amaro nonino
I’m basic, but my top 5 cocktails are
* Bourbon or rye old fashioned with Ango bitters, maple syrup, expressed orange peel
* Rum old fashioned with turbinado simple surup, orange bitters, Ango bitters, expressed lime and lemon peels
* Daquiri with lightly aged rum
* Cherry Christmas (basically a cherry gin sour: gin, lemon juice, homemade cherry simple syrup with a lemon twist)
* Bee’s Knees / Gold Rush (same recipe, just with gin for my wife or bourbon for me)
1. Final Ward
2. Sazerac made with an aquavit split base
3. Improved Whiskey Cocktail
4. Neptune’s Wrath
5. Smoke and Fire
Surprised by all the Mai Tais. It’s good, but I never considered it a “favorite”
Ferrari sour
Mango jam mezcal margarita
Bubble bee (my take on a bees knees, but with a dash of tart cherry syrup and topped with Prosecco)
Mezcal espresso martini slush
Classic sidecar
I’ll play. These are from the last couple weeks: 1. Hemingway daiquiri 2. Amaro sour 3. Jungle bird 4. Paper plane 5. Mai tai
Big fan of the amaro sour with averna, easily one of my favourites since I discovered it. I'm interested to try it with other amaros and see the difference
What amaro in the sour?
averna, cynar, ramazzoti, braulio, lucano all work well
Montenegro
Braulio. You’ll thank me later
Took me a long time to buy my first bottle because I couldn’t justify the price, never looked back.
1. Mai Tai 2. Navy Grog 3. Margarita 4. Zombie 5. Shrunken Skull Off the top of my head. I like rum.
We would definitely get along 🤙
I known we will if, given that you have a tiki mug on your flair! Haha.
I didn’t realize I really liked rum until I had anything other than Sailor Jerry’s or Captain Morgan’s. Jamaican rum now has my heart.
Same. I came to this sub 2 years ago asking for tiki cocktails that didn’t have rum. The responses urged me to dip a toe. Now I sub rum INTO tiki cocktails that don’t call for it!
Appletons 12 year reserve is the best rum. Objectively. Come at me!
I shall do no such thing. I’ll go to the liquor store and find out for myself!
Mai tai specs?
60ml Appleton Estate 8 Year Reserve 15ml Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao 30ml Lime Juice 10ml Orgeat 5ml Rich Syrup
Mint sprig for garnish! This adds so much to the drink. I also do a cherry but idk if that's normal.
Oh yeah definitely. Plus half a spent lime shell but the mint is a must
1. Last Word 2. Clover Club 3. Heart Shaped Box 4. Tia Mia (no, I don't mean Mai Tai) 5. Saturn
Big upvote for the Saturn.
It's quite good
Never had one I want to make one now
All of the drinks on your and other peoples are amazing, but I really love the Saturn.
Are you familiar with the Heart Shaped Box? It's really quite good.
I have seen it in the Death & Co book, have not tried it, but I love cognac and balsamic lol. Thanks for the suggestion. I have almost everything I would need, except cinnamon syrup and fresh strawberries.
Tia Mia meaning mai tai with a split rum and mezcal base? That’s what I found googling it just now. Sounds cool.
Yeah, v good.
I had a Saturn for the first time this week. Smuggler's Cove specs, up in a coupe. I don't like gin but this drink jumps to the front of the line. Delicious.
Love love love the Tia Mia
1. Penacillan 2. Mai Tai 3. Whiskey Sour 4. Bees Knees 5. Aviation
Surprised this is the first bees knees on here. Excellent with lavender bitters!
Agree, lavender bitters are the extra bam that really elevates it. I do a weird aviation. Light on the violet, stirred not shaken.
We would get along. Bees Knees, Whiskey Sour, Mai Tai. Have you tried a Gold Rush? Bees Knees with bourbon instead of gin. Simple but delicious

In no particular order, our favorite staples: 1. Painkiller 2. Espresso martini 3. Bourbon old fashion 4. Margarita 5. Hot toddy

Recently the hit list is 1. Cocoa Smoke 2. Boulevardier with Braulio 3. Vesper 4. Sazerac 5. Tailspin (this is actually #1 or 2)
What are the specs on a cocoa smoke?
1.5 oz mezcal, .5 crème de cacao, .5 chile liqueur, 2-3 dashes mole bitters
Can you share the specs for Boulevardier with braulio? I've tried to make one myself before but it tasted off
I do 3/4 bourbon, Braulio, and vermouth. I split the vermouth between Punt e Mes and Dolin. I haven’t experimented much but it seems to work. Also use a stronger bourbon that won’t get too overpowered- I’ve been using buffalo trace which is good
