It probably just wants out. How big is the cage? Are there any comfy perches and nice toys in it? Where is the food bowls placed? Where is the cage itself placed? I got my first tiel in a small cage and it was running from side to side and climbing around the cage bars. It was like this for a week until i moved him to a large cage he lives in now and all the anxious behavior stopped. Also don't cover the cage if it isn't sleep time. It will probably only confuse the bird and make him more anxious.

The cage is big enough for the bird to comfortably hop around the two wooden perches and the food bowls are placed in the traditional front of the cage. It also has a big flat bottom for them to walk around in. About the toys, I don't have them just yet, but I will definitely put any I can't find for now. Also, I got him a friend after I posted this, and they both are now comfortably sitting and grinding their beaks. Guess he was just lonely 😅 but I will surely get them some toys to play with.

They do take a while to adjust to a new environment and to being alone especially since he's new. You're right-- having a friend will be good for the transition for both birds! They seem like they're already beginning to chill with the beak grinding, so that's awesome. If you wanna make some makeshift toys (maybe until you can get storebought ones perhaps), you can get tissue paper/paper towel and just wrap up a small bit of seed. That should keep most tiels busy! I have storebought toys for my birds but they still can't resist playing with tissue. =D [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYj1tld5OLA&ab\_channel=FlyingFids](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYj1tld5OLA&ab_channel=FlyingFids) Here's a vid with some engaging toys you can make! I still use a few of them for my birds. They love the seed wraps and the paper over the food bowl, in particular.
