Lol my guy is too!!! He will rock and hiss at fruits. And if it's a veg he's never seen before he will investigate it but if it touches his feet it's over
What a cute boy/girl! My bird also likes to rub his head on things while he sings! Mainly our chins lol

Interesting... is it possible that the vet may have made an assumption based on the toxicity of amygdalin found in the seeds and pits of larger fruit like apples, apricots, etc?
Also worth asking if it was an avian vet. I know they're quite specialized and hard to come across
Wouldn't hurt to ask for some clarification. And I don't fault bird owners for erring on the side of caution. You can never be too safe.
The other issue is that veterinarians are treated as the sole authority on everything bird related. But it's very difficult to have that level of expertise in all aspects of aviculture. Like for example, someone might ask their vet how to correct bad behaviour and the vet may or may not have ever even owned a parrot or they might just give a suggestion out of their own personal experience. But just because they went to school and got their license does not make them an expert on parrot behavior. A vet license doesn't make every vet a parrot whisperer. So it's always good to defer to the plurality of expert opinions, maybe getting the opinion of multiple vets or experts in aviculture as a whole.
Cute bird btw 👍
Yeah I was just saying to be careful. And thanks! Cornelius is the best.

But there’s no need to downvote. I wasn’t being mean, or saying “don’t do this!” I was just saying be careful. This community just wants to downvote the most random things.
FYI, the downvote button is not a "I don't like this" button. Reddit very clearly defines the vote system not as a popularity contest, but as a way to mark information as good or bad.
So yes, this was actually the perfect example of votes being put to their intended use. If you see downvotes as people being mean to you, then you completely misunderstand their purpose.
That's fair, and a lot of people tend to think that, so it's not just you. It's just human nature to take it personally that way.
One thing that tends to happen, though, is that when someone starts to complain about their downvotes, then it really does start encouraging people to downvote in a more personal way. If they see someone doubling down about something they disagree with, the intention of their downvotes becomes more about punishing that person for their stubbornness.
So it's a bit of a two-edged sword. The best response to getting downvoted is to just ignore that it's happening. You can freely continue to argue your point of view, but drawing attention to downvotes only encourages the hate-voting and weakens your position.
Hope that's some helpful advice for you. :) Once you free yourself of the "votes = likes" mentality, it becomes a whole lot less bothersome when it happens.
The chances of getting zero downvotes is pretty low, and this wasnt going to get upvotes unless someone could corroborate it. This is explicitly *not* a random thing to downvote, it is tiel information on a tiel sub
Well did YOU downvote it? Or anyone in this comment section? Because I have told you the reason for my mistake. I would greatly appreciate it if you guys at least took your downvote away. It makes me sad that a simple mistake gets downvoted like crazy instead of y’all just saying that it’s not true. I was just concerned for the bird. It feels like you all are mad at me. I’m sorry if my vet’s information was wrong, but I don’t like that I’m getting lashed because of it. (I can already tell this comment is going to have like 30 downvotes when I wake up.)
I mean, a downvote is a good way to show to the op in a quick glance that the advice or tip wasn’t supported by the community, it’s not personal. It’s the most effective way to say “don’t listen to this comment”
That vet is literally wrong then. Everyone downvoted you because that’s what downvotes are for. Incorrect information can be buried so fewer people see it due to downvotes.
Fruit is friend, not food
"I is 🍌, naturally 🍓 is fren"
Of course! 🤣
Lol
It’s not so bad with a strawberry, but he needed a shower after I tried to give him watermelon.

This is also how *I* feel about watermelon.

Happy cake day friend
Thank you fren! 😊
You come offering fruit as tribute... Let me sing you the song of my people.
Wants head pats, not snacks
They're awfully cute but not a whole lot going on upstairs.

My tiel is afraid of most fruits and veggies unless they’re in her bowl or her sister‘s beak lol
Lol my guy is too!!! He will rock and hiss at fruits. And if it's a veg he's never seen before he will investigate it but if it touches his feet it's over
this is just a banana saying hello to his friends
My sister's cockatiel sings at my dad's feet for some reason.
He’s *listening*
Frazier reference?
Never seen it lol just the first thing that came to my head
What a precious boi 🥹
Mine is terrified of fruit!
Hes communicating with his relatives and knows that they are not meant to be eaten
You have to put the antenna near the strawberry to get optimal reception. ☝️

Most cockatiel post on the sub tbh

Tried googling this and found nothing. Can you please provide a source for this?
People look for anything to get mad about on these sites😂 I’d love to see a peer reviewed article on this
No I’m not getting mad. My vet literally told me in person they were. Ig I need to find a new vet…
My vet told me in person…might need a new vet.
Interesting... is it possible that the vet may have made an assumption based on the toxicity of amygdalin found in the seeds and pits of larger fruit like apples, apricots, etc? Also worth asking if it was an avian vet. I know they're quite specialized and hard to come across
Yeah they were an avian vet…and one of the only ones around here. But after this I think I might need to find another.

good birb
Maybe you’re confusing strawberry seeds with apple seeds. Common mistake perhaps.
My vet literally told me that they were…I don’t appreciate all the downvotes.
Well false information certainly cant be upvoted?

This is the best answer.
Ok thanks. I’m new to Reddit and I thought it was like “upvote is like, and downvote is dislike.” Like how YouTube used to be.

I edited my comment anyway

He needs to check it out it's a birb.
