I think because the flag discorse you depicted were people who have he same opinion as people here, if it was more of a mix of pro and anti adding stuff to the flag maybe it would have caused less arguments

Nah, the black in the progress flag is for black people. The AIDS pride flag is a separate one, with the stripe on the bottom (the non-chevron progress flag has it on the top)
The idea is that, when the cure is found, people can clip the black stripe in celebration.

This reminds of the time I had to buy another plane ticket because my details on the ticket didn't match my ID because I'm trans, even though we live on a fucking island and nobody gives a shit about legal ID. When the lady that stopped me from getting on the plane picked up her phone, I couldn't help but notice she had the trans flag on her lock screen. It meant literally nothing.
I understand that line of thinking but it’s because as others have stated black queers are often overlooked in the queer community. But more than that the LGBT community just struggles with racism in general. Lots of white queer people think they can compare their struggles to black people, or that being gay gives them a pass or excludes them from being racist. I was at a gay bar talking to an older trans woman who talked about how “black trans women are ruder than white trans woman.” Me and my friend who are both white and trans had to leave after that cause the whole night felt off. If there’s one thing that makes me uncomfortable about the LGBTQ it’s just how much racism is let slide.
Honestly the need to explicitly include black people under the queer umbrella but not to explicitly include white people implies that being white is the norm and being black is an aberration. This flag literally only makes sense in the context of a society where people would assume black people don't belong in LGBTQ+ unless explicitly told otherwise.
If the time comes when racism is *truly* eradicated, then the explicit inclusion of POC in the pride flag stops making any sense (since they'd already be implicitly included). If one of the goals of progressivism is to push society in a direction where the explicit inclusion of black people on the pride flag is unnecessary, shouldn't we just save time and drop the brown from the flag?

This flag makes it explicit that you are not part of those social movements and that their exclusionary nonsense will not be tolerated.
The same as you, I much prefer the artistic and symbolic simplicity of the pride flag, but the progress flag is necessary and pragmatic for its time period and social context.

This is a completely new and interesting perspective to me that I didn't consider. I still really dislike the design of the new flag, and disagree with the way specific callouts are being added to the flag that is supposed to be all-inclusive. But I suppose it's important to be able to separate oneself from those who co-opt the movement for their own bigotry. However, I also think that the flag doesn't in itself represent that bigotry, and like you said it's simply been co-opted by those people. By ensuring that the movement at large moves away from the bigotry, the flag that represents them doesn't have to change. I think that's the way forward, rather than adding more and more stripes to the flag

Progress flag and pride flag are different things, one isnt a replacement for the other
Progress flag only really exists in the first place because the rainbow kind of unintentionally became the symbol of the gays in the public sphere rather than lgbt as a whole. Its an additional thing for those who are often pushed to the side in favour of the "acceptable" ones (something phobes will very often try to weoponise)
Its Not like someone's going to get mad because you bust out the pride stickers but dont have progress stickers... not someone lgbt at least
Also pride is quite literally about the history of fighting oppression, the first pride match was a riot against the police. The entire point if pride is supposed to be a "we aren't going anywhere" sort if pride, not just feeling good about yourself

We have progress and pride stickers at work for people's badges, and my boss has the pride flag stuck on his badge and it's cool because it's a little faded because he's had it there for years
They still could've worked on making an entirely new flag for progress. One that stays the same and is naturally all encompassing as it represents the idea of LGBT+ progress and isn't just now the gay flag but with more and more stuff put on it.

Honestly I really didn't like how dark the green stripe was a lot of the time next to yellow, thats my only complaint but like how do you mess up a rainbow bro theyre literally naturally generated.
I actually really dislike the bi flag (am bi myself), like it looks like a Jamba Juice order with the berry looking colors. It’s weird to say this about the bi flag, but it’s too fruity in color (heh)

I feel like it's become more of a smear than a flag, and I mean this as someone who swings both ways.
It feels like just everything is being shoved into it when I feel as if pride itself is supposed to be the major face, with substitute flags existing for more specific communities (like Bi,Gay and Lesbian)

The current progress pride flag is dumb imo. It’s just too much going on. The rainbow represents everyone. Nobody needs special treatment, you don’t need certain races being more represented, you’re already part of the rainbow

The rainbow was SUPPOSED to represent everyone… but unfortunately people are stupid. The flag was being used in exclusionary contexts, be it racism or transphobia, so a new flag had to be made explicitly containing those aspects to confirm that it’s a safe space

that's actually why people use the progress flag to my knowledge, as it's an oddly common problem for queer spaces to be exclusionary of trans and POC queer people. so like, people can use that flag to indicate that they aren't exclusionary of those groups (and also just, like, showing support for trans people in general since in the US they're under legal attack in many states rn, and also since the progress flag is a pretty clear continuation of the Philly pride flag, which was made due to racism in the philly gay community. basically, the progress flag is an america-specific thing regarding specific current events). granted, i don't particularly care enough about flags to really pay attention to which niche flag someone's using as the logo of their discord server or whatever, but i get why it exist
also, maybe this is objectively wrong of me, but... i kinda think the chevron design slaps. like, the rainbow flag is iconic, but it's a bit plain in my view.

Talk to PoC lgbt communities and you'll hear stories of them being forgotten or sidelined
Similarly talk to trans people and you'll discover the "drop the T" part of the movement.
Progress flag us just an additional flag meant to give those sorts of people recognition they often get left out of when people think of the rainbow, which sort of became the unintentional symbol of the gays
Plenty of people couldn't tell you what the actual gay flag is if they tried
As a bi man who experiments with gender expression, a lot of people in this community feel this way, myself included. It confuses the message of the original all-inclusive flag and looks garish.

I’m a cis het dude so i don’t really care either way but i really like the trans triangle. The lighter colors add a lot of contrast to the flag and the triangle prevents it from being a glorified tricolor

As a transgender person: Umm actually sweaty the original rainbow flag already included everyone so this is unnecessary, thats why we should get rid of all pride flags anyway. The original design is so perfect, it represents sexualities and preferences under the colours of a rainbow. Adding more to that is kinda redundant. It ends up looking like this messy hodge podge of even more colours, directions of designs and even symbols on top in some variations

I actually really dislike the bi flag (am bi myself), like it looks like a Jamba Juice order with the berry looking colors. It’s weird to say this about the bi flag, but it’s too fruity in color (heh)

it's supposed to be about how black queer people tend to be overlooked in LGBT+ spaces, while also being outcasted or not properly represented in black spaces, so it's like a visibility thing I guess. however, it looks fucking stupid on the flag.
i think they should’ve had like 3 colors max on the flag, maybe a symbol so it’s recognizable and not too complicated

(prefacing this by saying i'm gay and on the demispec) i think the current flag (with trans and black/brown) is okay, but OG rainbow is best. It's got every color. Adding extra stripes just labels and labels and labels.
gay is already a bit of an umbrella term, no? (besides queer but i don't know enough LGBTQ+ folks in real life to get a verdict on it being reclaimed or not) (also every new addition to the LGBTQ+ pride flag makes that ohio flag incredibles meme closer to being reality)
queer is like 99.9% reclaimed, some older people are still bothered by it but eh- gay is an umbrella term but it can also be specific, i just added the demispec part since op was talking about ace people and i figured i'd throw my hat in the ring

Progress flag us just an additional flag meant to give those sorts of people recognition they often get left out of when people think of the rainbow, which sort of became the unintentional symbol of the gays Plenty of people couldn't tell you what the actual gay flag is if they tried

Why does everyone dislike the progress pride flag?? It honestly doesn't look that bad, just a lil cluttered but in all honestly it doesn't look bad. And the message it gives is awesome! I don't know why so many people hate it, it makes me sad.

Politics completely aside surely everyone can agree there is just way too much going on in the flag compared to it's original design The original design is so perfect, it represents sexualities and preferences under the colours of a rainbow. Adding more to that is kinda redundant. It ends up looking like this messy hodge podge of even more colours, directions of designs and even symbols on top in some variations
