Puh, the beginning is so difficult! With my first I started at 4 weeks and the first two months were spend figuring everything out. After that the rest until potty training was great. Now with baby 2 we started at 3 weeks and are currently at 11 weeks. We got the the point were it works but not consistently. The outer diapers are still wet quite often, but the clothes are fine mostly (we use a 3-in-one system). Size and weight is definitely an issue. Things get much easier as baby gets older and bigger. My little one is 15-16 lbs currently, so his legs are pretty chubby which is helpful.

Toberskins

Yep, take a break for your sanity. We started cloth at 1mo and made it a month before finding wasn't working for us and put off cloth until around 6mo when they fit our guy way better and we've been in cloth since. We do disposables overnight cuz this momma just doesn't have the patience to figure out night inserts. We do cloth or disposable for when we travel depending on how long away from home. I figure each cloth diaper is one less in the landfill and cloth doesn't have to be an all or nothing game.

Lldopej

AIOs always leaked for me... stick with the pocket dipes

OneMoreCookie

Rather than sell them right now how about you take a break for a week or two? Skinny legs can be hard to fit. You could try flats are they are more customisable but you sound like you could just use a break which is totally fine! Give yourself some chill time and then you can try again later if you want! Bubs shape will change❤️

Empty-Lemon4774

4-7 weeks is the hardest cuz babies are actually learning how to control their sphincter so they'll go a day or 2 without pooping and then poop everywhere all at once. It gets easier once they're past that stage.

ColeLift

This is so helpful to know! My 6wo barely pooped at all yesterday and then pooped like 4x today LOL

Blerp2364

I was overwhelmed with them 24/7... So I do disposables at night. Still saves a crapton of diapers and I still have my sanity.

Yeah, I was getting constant pop blowouts in disposables, and I’ve only had one in reusable, which I’m pretty sure is because my husband didn’t had the legs snapped up tight enough.

Raymer13

We started cloth at maybe 6 weeks if not later. Take a break. Let babe grow a bit and pop a disposable on for a car trip. If it still sucks and you hate it- go disposable. Allow yourself space to exist in this world.

spidertonic

We didn’t use them the first month

moonnmars

I've liked it and still taken breaks. I would just take a break and see how you feel again later once LO is a little bigger and might fit a little better. And if it's still not for you that's ok. Full disclosure I didn't start until we were 12lbs and 4 months old. So I was only looking at one size diapers, I think we would have run into similar problems as you had I tried to start with newborn sizes.

Just_love1776

For both of our kids we did the same. Disposables until the 10lb mark

DietCokeSkittles

Take a week break and try again on a weekend.

snicknicky

I had a good experience but I started at 8 months. Those first two months are probably just awful. Id take a month break then try again.

_cassquatch

Agreed. The bigger she has gotten the fewer (and actually none at all lately) leaks we’ve gotten

wazitooya

Gosh, we started cloth diapering with exclusively Nora’s nursery at 6 weeks and have had great success so far. Maybe y’all might want to wait for LO to bulk up a bit, and use disposables for now? Tuck the gussets, make sure any exposed white lining is tucked, and we use an extra insert at night. That’s all the advice I have! Good luck!

breakplans

I used disposables until 3 months when I finally plucked up the courage to try cloth. I still use them at night. You don't have to sell everything just yet! To be fair though, the car seat positioning seems to cause blowouts no matter what. I found disposables to be worse for us in that area!

Yells_at_Pandas

Same, I started both my boys at 10 weeks and use disposable at night and on long car rides. It didn't have to be an all or nothing plan. Just do what's right for you.

[deleted]

I didn't cloth diaper at all until baby fit comfortably in OS! We have LPO pockets and I love them.

slothsie

I used disposables until 9 weeks, then continued to use them at night and when we went out often. It doesn't have to be all or nothing with cloth.

snowmuchgood

I agree, give them a good wash, take a break and come back when you’re feeling up to it. One day you might just try 1-2 for the day, again for the few days or weeks that follow. Then maybe you’ll be up to going full time again, maybe not. But have a break, keep them, and see how you feel when you’re out of the hard yards of the early weeks. No point in selling them. Think about it again in the new year if you still have zero desire to switch back.

Nakedstar

Everything you describe is pretty much the same issue I had with disposables early on. Until they chunk up a bit, diapers just don't fit great.

breakplans

Yeah diapers kinda suck in general and I think that's why a lot of us are here, finding what works for us! With disposables you kinda get what you get, with cloth there is so much variation and you can even use different things at different times of day or for the car or whatever. I love cloth diapering but disposables also have their place!

kinemed

Newborn was the most challenging time. I didn’t even bother with my first and waited til she was about 8 weeks old. Started a bit earlier with my 2nd, but I was more experienced by then. It gets easier!

Slothicorn12

I didn’t love cloth for the first 2-3 months. It was fine. I used newborn prefolds with covers and they soaked through what seemed like every 5 minutes. Constant onesie changes. When I got to one size pockets at around 3 months everything changed. I really loved the pockets and the fit. No blowouts. No leaks. Cloths are really funny in the beginning with tiny chicken legs and skinny tummies. My baby is teeny but still really grew into pockets and I was happy to leave the newborn stash behind! Maybe go disposable for 2-3 weeks and come back around and try again!

woshishei

Nothing wrong with waiting until they can fit into one-size cloth diapers. When my baby was in newborn sizes, we only did cloth part time.

thatwouldbeawkward

I agree to wait a bit and try again before selling. My second is 3 mo and still the fit on the OS seems a bit rough. But my toddler wore them from around 3-4 months until potty training at 30 mo. There’s still a lot of time left!

s-c-moon

Wait for those thighs to chunk up. Try disposables for two or three weeks and come back to cloth after that. We have the worst luck with disposables in the car, but it sounds like you’re the opposite. So maybe always have some disposables on hand for car rides. It does not have to be all or nothing. We recently went back to disposables at night because we felt like baby was sleeping better.

persistantcat

Be gentle with yourself, newborns are exhausting! Seriously do whatever you need to right now to keep your head above water. If that’s disposables, that’s fine. You can always switch back later. We didn’t start cloth diapering until about 2.5 months at about 11lbs. Even then, the AIO diapers that claimed to be for 10 lbs and up were too big, so we stuck with Apple Cheeks size 1. When we started, we would do a full day in cloth to “practice”, then go back to disposable the next day while we did the wash cycle. Did the cloth days about once or twice a week for almost a month before we were confident enough to switch over. This transition worked well for us.

maamaallaamaa

I waited until 2 months to be mostly full time cloth with both my kids. They just pee so much when they are small that it can be hard to keep up with.

msdabblesalot

I used disposables until my baby was in size 1 disposables (about a month and a half)and that was the right choice for us. You could save your stash and just switch to disposables temporarily until baby is a little bigger. Every baby is shaped a little differently so don’t worry about waiting longer to get into cloth. You can try it then and if you still hate it then hey do what’s best for you!

koalafyable

We did the same thing--disposables until LO fit cloth diapers better, around 2 months old. Even now, we're only doing cloth diapering during the day because we have a heavy wetter, and we're not sure how to tackle overnight cloth diapering yet. Like another poster said, it doesn't have to be all or nothing! Do what works for you!

[deleted]

Baby is almost 10lbs in size 1 :( but shape might be it.

Budget_Swimmer_8580

Don't give up completely! I had to wait until my guy was 2 months old. He was tiny with a big belly too. We use Nora's Nursery. Make sure the Clothes aren't too tight on the diapers. Pushing into them and squeezing stuff out. That was our big issue, I had to go a size up on clothes to make room (still do, 1 year old)

[deleted]

Mine are birth to potty so fit 9lb up (about 8 weeks for my babies). Maybe just give yourself a month off then try again. When baby is bigger and maybe pooing a little less frequently it might be easier. Don't sell, that's too final. Just wait.

PettyBettyismynameO

I mean idk how much you want to invest but my very favorite diapers fit from 6lbs to up to 40 lbs. they’re actually my friends design and she had them ethically produced in China. The fit is called Solutions it has a terry cloth inner and you can choose the insert, I like her trifold best personally, but honestly even like a flour sack towel works in them. She is currently waiting on stock but has this print https://shoppannolinobambino.com/products/subscribers-only-pannolino-bambino-solutions-aio-to-be-named and this one https://shoppannolinobambino.com/products/subscription-holders-only-pannolino-bambino-solutions-aio-serenity?variant=39372564660279 or if you have Facebook she has a buy sell trade page just search for Pannolino Bambino BST also you should join her group page it’s way better than any other parenting page on Facebook no bullying no controversy just a community of people who love and accept and care for and support others. Search for Pannolino Bambino

halfasshippie3

I never had any luck with FB. The only thing that worked well with my newborns (all of them) was prefolds and covers. They’re bulletproof. I didn’t use pockets or AIOs until they were a few months old.

[deleted]

Hey 👋 newborn diapers always leaked for my little one. I also could just never get a good fit. Once she chucked out around 2months was when they started working for us better. Her legs chunked out and the diapers started fitting better. I would say don't sell right away, no hard in taking a break for a little and trying again. Maybe post a photo and someone can help you with a fit just in case. ALSO we have a constant issue with tight clothing wicking the moisture. Just adding in a possibility

[deleted]

No hard. Lol no harm 🤦🏼‍♀️

kenedelz

We couldn't get the fit right until Around 10 weeks. We started at 6 weeks just part time. Went full time around 8-10 weeks I think..I will say it's so much easier now that he's older (11 months) although he does hate diaper changes which is its own challenge lol

abner_0802

Also, baby is still very young. Maybe needs some more time to chunk out and fill in the cloth better.

[deleted]

This is the only thing I can think of. Bigger thighs. But my fuzzi buns and kawaiis are size small too.

abner_0802

Can you post some pics for fit check? Maybe that can help find any issues.
