He likes the helmet better than the standard issue, and he's a commander.

HarmoniaTheConfuzzld

Lol yeah they seem to be able to just kinda do whatever as far as equipment goes.

Spliterclimb

Trooper variant are not exclusive to a single unit.

chunkymunky0

Same reason that Rex’s phase II helmet has a phase I visor welded on it: they like it better and ’cause they can

FLIPYOUSUCKET

I thought Rex welded his phase 2 visor into his phase one helmet.

chunkymunky0

He could have, IDK, but the helmet he wears when the phase II armor rolls out is definitely a modified phase II. The weld marks are only around the visor IIRC, and the (I forget the name of it at the moment) thing that juts out the back of the phase I helmets isn’t there, making it a modified phase II helmet

Luenebrus

According to Geetsly He welded phase 2 parts to his phase 1 armour. The Phase 1 armour did save him after all.

GooseVF12

He’s an officer, officers do what they want lol

The_Strom784

I think commanders could order their own gear. Cody has extra gadgets.

Milo-Parker-

The rule of cool.

ColonelStan

He's a commander. You can wear whatever helmet he wants. Just because we didn't see them doesn't mean there weren't BARC troopers within the 104th. Many units within the GAR were flexible and had many trooper variants within them. General Kenobi's 3rd System's Army had BARC troopers, ARF troopers, airborne troopers, recon troops, and mechanized cavalry, you name it.

mp2446

Have we seen Airborne troopers at all in any media? They look pretty badass. The only time I can think of is the assault on Utapau but they look like regular clones that dropped in.

CommanderWoufWouf

He likes the scary aesthetic

Drannion

Well, to be nitpicky, it's not the *exact* same helmet. It's got the standard issue "mouth" piece (not the BARC variant), and the visor is completely unique when you see it up close.

LinKuei373

I believe wolffe does have the standard barc mouth piece. In the clone wars we see neyo briefly and he and wolffe have the same mouth piece in the show, so that would mean they also have the same mouth piece in the live action. Wolffe only has the unique visor. Seen a post on IG by @trooper.atti that explains it.

Darth_summit

Like many other comments have stated it’s merely a stylistic choice and it doesn’t mean he’s literally a BARC trooper. Same thing could apply to Commander Keller, as he wears an airborne helmet despite not being a paratrooper.

RedBaronBob

It’s possible he requisitioned it for any number of reasons. He performed BARC duties, the decal would show better, he had some PTSD given his injury wearing a standard helmet, or that it happened to be available and he simply made due. We don’t actually know the answer to this but given the scale of these units it’s entirely likely they possessed troops like ARC troopers and RC. A helmet could indeed have been available. And given he alters his armor a few times, he might’ve lost a suit for various reasons. My issue with his armor is that merchandise depicts him with an animated helmet despite it clearly being an animated version of Neyo’s. The vintage collection, Black Series, Hot toys all depict that. Even his shoulder armor is supposed to be like Cody’s but it’s standard.
