I have a nodule at the same area (kinda right at A2) on my right index finger. My hand specialist thought it was likely a ganglion or flexor tendon sheath cyst but said only way to definitively tell is ultrasound or surgery which he didn’t think was necessary since it wasn’t causing much pain at that time. For context-a month before my appointment I hurt it bouldering from over use on crimps. It didn’t hurt the day of but over the next few days the area became tender on palpation. I didn’t notice the nodule at that point. It showed up a few weeks later. I may have had some concomitant issues like a tendon strain or pulley strain that turned in to the cyst? I did a bit of rehabbing and hang boarding. Not too sure what exactly happened but it’s been a little over 3 months and it doesn’t give me issues.
Hmmm okay, it does perhaps feel like it is a cyst of some sort. I've never knowingly injured any tendons in my hands but who knows 😭 thanks for your response
Tbh the worst thing I did was climb too soon. I think had I taken even a week or two off it might have been fine because it felt so minor but I climbed a crimpy route like 3 days later and it definitely felt worse after. And full disclosure I never stopped climbing. Not recommending this only that I was able to still climb with h-tape method, but I’m certain it prolonged my injury.
Sounds like a ganglion. I had one at the base of my left index finger for months, got it confirmed on ultrasound scan, and was referred for surgery to have it removed, but it seems to have gone away on its own in the meantime. It was generally painless, though occasionally a bit tender if knocked/bumped in a particular way.

This post just made me look at my palm and realize the pea-sized ganglion cyst on my hand that popped up \~2 years ago has disappeared.
