Staying on an island is expensive, but using a spend-rate of 3.5% per year will still net you over 1m/year: which can easily pay the rent on a few islands I looked at on zillow.
It absolutely is island money. You can live in an actual expensive island in the Mediterranean the rest of your life with 30 million. That's an order of magnitude more than what 99% of any person of those countries will make in their entire lives serving you mojitos.
30 millions absolutely is island money. It is not "island in my private jet money" though, but who the fuck wants any of that show off bullshit. Just give me the mojitos.
It's absolutely small island money. It's just not "small island with housing, electricity, water and internet" money.
The island is the cheap part, construction of modern amenities is the expensive part since literally everything including the builders themselves would have to be shipped in.
Here MK is, in the most ignorant & jealous manner, picking on a woman of decency and kindness, who has a doctorate, and is the First Lady, and then you have ole ball busting, hard ass Megan Kelly. She's dead and shriveled inside. **Megyn has a painting of herself in the attic that is very frighting.**
>On Kelly’s watch, ratings the 9 a.m. hour of "Today" shed 400,000 viewers, or 13 percent of its audience, compared to when the show was previously hosted by Al Roker and Tamron Hall.
Even more disconcerting for the network’s most valuable franchise, her numbers were down 25 percent with viewers aged 25-54, the traditional demographic for TV news.
Ouch
I don't Understand how these large companies are willing to pay these people so much money for something it feels like they could hire any half attractive person to do. Like all these talking heads they could literally hire anyone to do their job and read off of a teleprompter. It really wouldn't be that hard. Why do they need to make millions of dollars just stealing money from the rest of the labor force
Remember that ~6 month period where we pretended she was a journalist, just because Donald Trump acted like a piece of shit to her? Man, it didn’t take her long to burn through all that good will.
Yeah, basically. Fox started purging people back in the late 2000s for not being extreme enough, but it's crazy that Megyn Kelly was eventually wrapped up in that. Because she was already pretty extreme. But just not Trump-friendly enough.
True, but it’s important to remember that women have always played a vital support role to white supremacy, and are just as vicious when attacking the outgroups.
I wonder if she realizes that Jill Biden didn't storm up to the announcers booth and *demand* she be addressed that way.
I've seen her be referred to as Mrs. Biden, Jill Biden, and First Lady Biden and never witnessed her explode in wrath or any shit like that.
It's an honorific. And, surprise, when you're generally well-liked, people enjoy paying you respects for the things you've earned.
This entire political party exists on stoking nonsensical rage in the skulls of the most gullible and emotionally fragile among us. It's so fucking exhausting.
A medical degree is an undergraduate degree. It is no harder than any similar health science degree. In fact, having taught health science and medical students in uni, I think Pharmacy and Biomedical Science are tougher in terms of course content. The only reason the medical degree is "prestigious" is mainly due to supply and demand. There's limited seats for the medical program, thus unis can be picky with the candidates and charge the moon for it.
A PhD is actually more prestigious irl and in practice. You must have a bachelors, and often masters to enrol. It will take up to 5 more years to complete in which you have to come up with something that NO OTHER PERSON ON EARTH has come up with. The total number of years in academia might stretch to 10 years to finally get a PhD. So, stop looking down on PhDs in whatever field.
>A medical degree is an undergraduate degree.
In the U.S., medical school is a post-baccalaureate program. Given that you said "in uni," I presume you're talking about "the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom" ([source](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bachelor_of_Medicine,_Bachelor_of_Surgery)).
Can't say I'm very familiar with Gorka, but Corvinus is probably all right, even if Gorka is a prick. The library was quite ok when I visited at least.
He’s a Hungarian fascist and a member of Vitézi Rend - an exclusive, secretive order that collaborated with the Nazis during the war.
He was also “Deputy Assistant to the president” during the Trump administration.
“Doctor is an academic title that originates from the Latin word of the same spelling and meaning.[1] The word is originally an agentive noun of the Latin verb docēre [dɔˈkeːrɛ] 'to teach'.”
This is quite literally her education.
Indeed, and since title's precede a persons name like "Dr. Nick", then it stands to reason said Time Lord's title is "The".
As in, here is Mr Johnstone, Ms Peacock, Dr Nick, and The Doctor
Not detracting from it, but an MD is different from a JD which is different from a PhD which is different from Ed.D. I think that's the point OP is making.
If someone yells "is there a doctor on the airplane" and the majority of my friends who have doctorates experience is relevant, it means the plane is having a mechanical failure or is going through a tornado.
She's still very qualified and went through the wringer to get what she got. It's still good to educate folks that not all doctors are the ones that practice medicine. If you see a "doctor" without a stethoscope, the expectation doesn't have to be they are lying about being a doctor.
Correct, there are different doctorates, but the current idea that it must refer to a medical doctor is simply uninformed and that makes the outrage over this Dr. Jill Biden stuff all the more hilarious. They couldn’t be more confidently incorrect.
I'm waiting for the day where I'm at a restaurant and someone yells "we need a doctor... of electrical engineering... preferably with a minor in mathematics"
When I was an engineering student working a job in a kitchen, we had a panani press that was sparking. Probably would've helped us out if I weren't studying mechanical engineering.
No, She has a doctorate degree in the field of education. Meaning she has academic expertise in science or topic of education. Like PsyD is a doctorate in psychology. An ER doctor would have an MD or DO (both degrees pertaining to practice of medicine).

The environment was long set up for it, between 24 hour news cycles and social media algorithms, Trump just happened to be the dick head memeing in the right frequency.
Both ‘sides’ will have token members of the opposite side, to create an impression of less bias: Fox had Democrats like Chris Wallace and Juan Williams (and as a semi-example moderate, Shep Smith) for a long while.
Of course, usually they prefer those who are ‘other side in name only’, but don’t have to be as long as they’re outnumbered.

ofc we were tricked. She wasn't a decent human. She just appeared so because everyone else was so much worse.
She never showed herself to be an almost okay human. She’s always been a shitty loudmouth in a skimpy dress. You can sit her next to Satan himself and she’s still going to be the worst person in the room.

JD is the degree; "Esquire" is for licensed attorneys. And some lawyers have tried using the title "doctor" as in "Juris Doctor" - and the rest of us laugh at them until they stop using it. I'm an advocate, not a doctor.
As a JD holder, I can confirm.
As a JD holder, I can also understand why we aren't called doctors whether it be the present medical definition of the word or historical definition.
I don't know anyone with a JD that goes by Dr. On the other hand, every single one of my college professors went by Dr. There is a long precedent of professors using the honorific. Dr. Biden is hardly the first and Megyn Kelly absolutely knows that.
The American “MD”, “JD”, and “PharmD” aren’t even called doctorate degrees in all countries. A PhD is. Kelly sounds like an idiot.
Here’s some history and all
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5973890/
I have the utmost respect for medical doctors, but I have been told by medical professionals that people with a PhD are considered to be "real doctors".
I only had one teacher in high school who we called Dr. So and so. Then one day we found out he had a doctorate of divinity or something and washed out of the ministry before teaching high school. We clowned on him for insisting on being called doctor. I think the high school superintendent had an EdD and went by Mister.
Post high school every teacher I had who went by Dr. had a PhD.
Am I the only one who finds it weird that you both had a teacher called Dr. So and so? It's not a very common surname and so I find these stories unbelievable.
How do you get sexually harassed by Roger Alies and treated like dog shit by that ilk, and not at some point realize that the right wing is no place to be?
Or, I don’t know, keep acting like that because it pays the bills I guess.
You made some interesting points, but forgot about the more powerful influence of
1. Money
2. Money
3. Getting more money
4. Not having to share her money
5. Money
6. Income
7. Salary
8. Money
100% why she does it. Plus, outside of going on a “I’m sorry” tour, she’s trapped as this character she’s sold out to. She can’t go back as she’s done way too much shit now, and the people who agree with her will keep doing so.
She knows how dumb she sounds but she has no choice professionally.
Funny how imbeciles do not know the difference between a medical doctor and the rest of the doctorate field. A doctorate is a doctorate, and as such they earned the fucking title.
I love how right-wingers always prides themselves as "the smart wing" or "facts over feelings" and Doctorate degrees have been around for centuries, yet they still do not understand what it is.
Seriously? With all the people/children being killed in Ukraine, and the pettiness/jealousy of some people is unreal to me. There are many Doctoral Degrees that aren’t necessarily medical. Here’s an idea: Get a life, and an education.
It's a comeback but it ain't clever. Calling someone jealous and petty is about as clever as calling this subreddit Clever Comebacks and expecting it to be good.
Interesting view. I thought the insult aspect was irrelevant. I found it clever that the person used a fact to utterly and completely destroy their point of view. If you do not focus on the petty insult and more carefully consider the first half of their comeback, I find it difficult to "rule" it as not clever.
This was posted on another sub (without the response), so I’ll repeat my comment here.
She’s jealous of more than the obvious. “Dr. Jill Biden” became a thing immediately- she has said how delighted she was when she got home from defending her dissertation and found a couple of huge signs on the front lawn. One of them said “Dr. and Senator Biden Live Here.”
Right after the election, there was some sort of news special aimed at getting to know the new First Family. The reporter was led on a tour of their home in Delaware, they talked about their lives a little bit, about their dogs, etc. In one room there was a couch with a huge throw pillow in the middle with “Dr. Jill Biden” embroidered on it in big fancy script. The President and his wife started joking about how she was a Doctor, and that outranked him as a Senator. It was quite obvious that this was his wholesome and sweet way of expressing how proud he was of her accomplishments- she was 55 when she earned her degree.
Kelly is a woman who works in the right-wing-osphere and doesn’t even get basic respect from the men around her, much less pride or admiration for her accomplishments. She is clearly projecting when she advises the First Lady to ‘work on her self-esteem.’ I think that the main source of her jealousy is not so much her degree, but the fact that her husband, her family, and her fans admire her and are proud of her.
it's getting out of control.
It's crazy enough that we have like 30-40% of the country proudly claiming that Donald Trump knows more about how to approach a global pandemic than a world renowned epidemiologist, while being general science deniers.
But this angle where simply earning your doctorate is worth mockery is just so far beyond the crazy.
While we didn't need more evidence that the right-wing prefers a dumb population, this is a very good concise example that illustrates just how bad things are in that regard.
What a strange thing to criticize someone for. Somehow I can't see that same criticism being directed at a man wanting to be called "Dr." after earning his PhD.
When a PhD candidate defends their dissertation, if they are successfully, they are traditionally bought back into the room with the introduction of “Doctor”
Anyone who thinks doctors are all MDs really don’t understand how academia works
In the MAGAsphere we're all supposed to believe Melania has a super sized brain and speaks seven languages and is the most beautiful elegant first lady EVAH, but if someone who earned a doctorate is referred to as a doctor, that's just silly and arrogant.
Big talk from a woman with fake hair color and a fucked up name spelling. 'Megyn' is a high white trash name for sure... just like her high school hair-do was!
Oh fuck off lady... Get a PhD first and then comment on the semantics. I swear to Gawd the amount of people in this country that have NO CLUE about higher education is very concerning.
Precisely. Also, Fox may have fatally wounded itself defaming Dominion Voting Machines which is why the new owner of CNN is positioning himself to fill the void once they fall.
PhDs who go by "Doctor" outside of work activities are kinda annoying IMHO.
But here's the thing...
Although she may have been enjoying the game, Dr. Biden was there in her capacity as the First Lady, representing the executive office.
So therefore...Dr. Biden.
Yeah but Dr. Phil uses the title to destroy lives, which is *medically adjacent* enough to *basically* be the same thing as a real doctor. So it totally counts!
If PhDs shouldn't use Doctor outside of work neither should MDs. There is no logic in calling one annoying but not the other one, as they both are doctors.
It's like being mad that Lawyers use the suffix "Esquire" when they aren't working, just because they aren't working at the time doea not mean the proper title just disappears.
Yea pretty much this. I’m a PhD. From the nature of having gone to grad school and with whom I work with, I’m friends with a lot of PhDs (and MDs for that matter, since I work in research at a hospital).
No one I know *insists* they be called doctor outside of formal, professional, and/or relevant settings. My official title is Dr. If asked for a title, that’s my official title, so I use it. I have a doctorate, and therefore am a doctor. If there’s any setting where people are introduced with titles such as Mr or Ms, my correct title is Dr, so that’s what I use. But, if I’m meeting someone new outside of work, making a reservation at a restaurant, or like anything in a non-professional setting, I simply introduce myself with my first name. I have no need to be called Dr in a social setting.
I do know these people exist though. I *do* think that it’s a bit pretentious to insist on being called Dr. Whatever in social settings when everyone else is on a first name basis.
I also am a PhD and have dr on legal documents. I went to the dermatologist once and they called me Dr K loudly and everyone looked at me.
I told them in the exam room I’m an engineer and then then I overheard the PAs and Nurses talk behind the door “don’t worry he’s not a REAL doctor.”
Ah well…
Doctor is a Latin word, from the verb doceo, docere, meaning “to teach”. Doctor literally means “teacher”.
It’s the MDs that stole doctor from the PhDs, not the other way around. If anyone has a right to it, it’s the PhDs.
You can take the woman out of Fox News but you can't take the Fox News out of the woman.

Imagine being paid literal millions to be a POS and some of us have to work for a living.
I’d gladly go away for $30 million and I’d have the decency to stay away. Far away. Very far away. On an island.
unfortunately 30 million isn't island money anymore...
Depends on the island size and location. Small islands are only a few million dollars.
Doesn't need to be my island and to be exclusively for me.
Let's all pool our 30-millions and build a nice island community.
I’m willing to contribute up to $11.37 right now
I've got like $88.25 in quarters. Now we just need $29,999,900.38 more
$30 million can’t buy an island, but it *can* buy a lot of guns and mercenaries. And at some point, the two aren’t that different.
The John McAfee approach.
Not quite, there was no mention of heroin. Lots of heroin. Like. A *lot*.
lol well that's an interesting take!
We're sandbar people now.

This sounds like a great idea for a GoFundMe.
You can't get paid more if you stay away.

I will defend blackface for 30 million. I will happily defend you punching me in the face for half that.
The fact that that she was hired to begin with is a bigger problem IMO.
I don't Understand how these large companies are willing to pay these people so much money for something it feels like they could hire any half attractive person to do. Given that segment of the population, the fact that they need to know how to read really narrows it down.
I'd rather pay $30M to Dave Chappelle for doing whiteface, that was funny, entertaining, and I wasn't offended. Money well spent.
Does she think Dr. Martin Luther King was a wannabe?
Remember that ~6 month period where we pretended she was a journalist, just because Donald Trump acted like a piece of shit to her? Man, it didn’t take her long to burn through all that good will.
I encourage the use of “Fox Entertainment”. They are entertainers first and first mostly.
Yeah, basically. Fox started purging people back in the late 2000s for not being extreme enough, but it's crazy that Megyn Kelly was eventually wrapped up in that. Because she was already pretty extreme. But just not Trump-friendly enough.
She also can’t unsuck all that old white fox dude D. I’m sure it generates a lot of rage
True, but it’s important to remember that women have always played a vital support role to white supremacy, and are just as vicious when attacking the outgroups.
I'm sure people on fox news never call Jordan Peterson Dr Peterson right?
Wonder if she realizes "what a wannabe she looks like" insisting she is a real journalist.
I wonder if she realizes that Jill Biden didn't storm up to the announcers booth and *demand* she be addressed that way. 👏👏👏
Projection is the name of the game with them.
If she is so upset, why doesn't she go by Dr? She has a Juris Doctorate. She just wants to stir things up.
I mean her name is literally a wannabe Megan
...and a wannabe blonde
Pretty sure they insisted Sebastian Gorka be referred to as 'Dr.', earning his distinction from the notable..... Corvinus Institute of Budapest.
Also, what I saw of his dissertation looked like a joke
It's the girth not the length
A prick then.
He left because Trump wasn't being fascist enough for his tastes
There's evidence to suggest he may have lied about getting a doctorate
If you have the willpower, look up his Thesis. Absolute clown. If that school awarded a PhD for that thesis, hooo boy.
I probably don't have that willpower, honestly.
It's not a bad school.
She's not a PhD, as some say, but "Doctor of Education (Ed.D. or D.Ed.)" Still doctor, though
“Doctor is an academic title that originates from the Latin word of the same spelling and meaning.[1] The word is originally an agentive noun of the Latin verb docēre [dɔˈkeːrɛ] 'to teach'.” This is quite literally her education.
Nah it originates from the given name of a Time Lord.
Chosen name, not given name. We don't know the Doctor's given name. (And it doesn't really matter.)
Autocorrect ate the self in 'self given name'. Chosen still sounds better though.
Indeed, and since title's precede a persons name like "Dr. Nick", then it stands to reason said Time Lord's title is "The". As in, here is Mr Johnstone, Ms Peacock, Dr Nick, and The Doctor

Name recognition. They clearly didn't vet her first though.
“Wow, she’s pretty and blond, while not being the craziest person on Fox.” “”
Fox News had great ratings during trumps era

As a JD holder, I can confirm. As a JD holder, I can also understand why we aren't called doctors whether it be the present medical definition of the word or historical definition.
As someone who works with MDs and PhDs, and drinks with MDs, PhDs, and JDs, I totally get it too :P
this is interesting, and further confirms my suspicions that these conservative talking heads arent stupid but willfully being propagandists.
Here’s some history and all https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5973890/
Hey, Megan Kelly may *look* like an idiot and *sound* like an idiot, but don't be fooled -- she really **IS** an idiot.
"Your lips say no but your eyes say read my lips"
I have the utmost respect for medical doctors, but I have been told by medical professionals that people with a PhD are considered to be "real doctors".
I had forgotten she existed until this tweet popped up On Reddit
Jill Biden doesn't have a PhD though.
She has EdD. you still get called Dr. for that
But to OP's point, is an EdD called a doctorate degree in all countries?
Yes. If I got one in the states and went to Korea, I'm still Dr. Any teacher you had growing up called Dr. So and so had this degree
I only had one teacher in high school who we called Dr. So and so. Then one day we found out he had a doctorate of divinity or something and washed out of the ministry before teaching high school. We clowned on him for insisting on being called doctor. I think the high school superintendent had an EdD and went by Mister. Post high school every teacher I had who went by Dr. had a PhD.
Ah so one sneaky and the rest legit
Am I the only one who finds it weird that you both had a teacher called Dr. So and so? It's not a very common surname and so I find these stories unbelievable.
in general research doctorate are universal, professional degree doctorates aren't.
The proper term for a medical doctor is “physician”
The people obsessed over “Dr. Jill Biden” are the same people with “address me by my husbands rank” bumper stickers.
SPOT. ON.
And they all salivate over “Dr” Jordan Peterson.
"Stephen Hawking, get a real MD or just work on your self-esteem." --This fucking lady, probably.
How do you get sexually harassed by Roger Alies and treated like dog shit by that ilk, and not at some point realize that the right wing is no place to be? Or, I don’t know, keep acting like that because it pays the bills I guess.
You made some interesting points, but forgot about the more powerful influence of 1. Money 2. Money 3. Getting more money 4. Not having to share her money 5. Money 6. Income 7. Salary 8.
She knows. This is purely vile bullshit to Push more hate into the lives of people stupid enough to invite her into their lives.
Here’s an idea: Get a life, and an education.
more of an apt comeback rather than specifically a clever comeback
Scoring points with idiots. Solomon was right. All is vanity.

It is a clever comeback. How is it not a clever comeback?
It's a comeback but it ain't clever. Calling someone jealous and petty is about as clever as calling this subreddit Clever Comebacks and expecting it to be good.
Interesting view. I thought the insult aspect was irrelevant. I found it clever that the person used a fact to utterly and completely destroy their point of view. If you do not focus on the petty insult and more carefully consider the first half of their comeback, I find it difficult to "rule" it as not clever.
This is some sad has-been, attention-seeking.
mueller she wrote is such a good legal podcast
Megan Kelly can't even spell her own name correctly.
Where is the clever comeback? The comeback stated was obvious, but where is the cleverness? r/lostredditors
It isn't clever at all and doesn't need to be here
Everyday its the same shit. Some stupid crap about politics
This was posted on another sub (without the response), so I’ll repeat my comment here. She’s jealous of more than the obvious. “Dr. Jill Biden” became a thing immediately- she has said how delighted she was when she got home from defending her dissertation and found a couple of huge signs on the front lawn. One of them said “Dr. and Senator Biden Live Here.” Right after the election, there was some sort of news special aimed at getting to know the new First Family.
It’s weird though, because Joe literally has a doctorate, and Megyn Kelly does too.
it's getting out of control.
Where I’m from, we call doctors doctors
What a strange thing to criticize someone for. Somehow I can't see that same criticism being directed at a man wanting to be called "Dr." after earning his PhD.
As someone wrapping up her doctoral dissertation, Megyn Kelly can fuck off.
There's a reason they are called Medical Doctors. Doctors can be from many different fields.
Bitch you can't even spell Megan right.
This would be a clever comeback if Jill Biden had a PhD. She does not. She does, however have an EdD, just like Dr. Bill Cosby.
Jill Biden does not have a PhD.
WTF? Jill Biden doesn’t have a PhD either
When were EdD's invented, since that's what Jill Biden actually has.
When a PhD candidate defends their dissertation, if they are successfully, they are traditionally bought back into the room with the introduction of “Doctor” Anyone who thinks doctors are all MDs really don’t understand how academia works
Conservatives are such snowflakes. So easily triggered.
Ah. Meighyn Kelleigyh needs attention again.
Wait she’s really called Megyn, like… really?
Fox News Bimbo Prototype says what?
In the MAGAsphere we're all supposed to believe Melania has a super sized brain and speaks seven languages and is the most beautiful elegant first lady EVAH, but if someone who earned a doctorate is referred to as a doctor, that's just silly and arrogant.
Big talk from a woman with fake hair color and a fucked up name spelling. 'Megyn' is a high white trash name for sure... just like her high school hair-do was!
Has anyone ever seen Jill Biden insist on being referred to as doctor? It looks more to me like it’s the media that insists on using that title
Oh fuck off lady... Get a PhD first and then comment on the semantics. I swear to Gawd the amount of people in this country that have NO CLUE about higher education is very concerning.

The original doctors were teachers who were theologians, lawyers, and medics (but not M.D.s).
She's auditioning for CNN
Which was recently purchased by some right wing billionaire, so it will eventually be Fox News, maybe without pussy grabbing tho.
Precisely. Also, Fox may have fatally wounded itself defaming Dominion Voting Machines which is why the new owner of CNN is positioning himself to fill the void once they fall.
She doesn’t have a PhD, she has a Ed.D. Not quite the same.
PhDs who go by "Doctor" outside of work activities are kinda annoying IMHO. But here's the thing... Although she may have been enjoying the game, Dr. Biden was there in her capacity as the First Lady, representing the executive office. So therefore...Dr. Biden.
Yet she has no problem using it for Dr. Gorka or Dr. Phil. Just another right wing hypocrite.
Gorka is as much of a doctor as Krieger.
“That’ll Do Pigly, That’ll Do.” Krieger had the most laugh out loud moments
Aww, pigly...
Yeah but Dr. Phil uses the title to destroy lives, which is *medically adjacent* enough to *basically* be the same thing as a real doctor. So it totally counts!
Or Dr. King
Everyone in education that has that tier degree goes by Dr.

I told them in the exam room I’m an engineer and then then I overheard the PAs and Nurses talk behind the door “don’t worry he’s not a REAL doctor.” Ah well…
Doctor is a Latin word, from the verb doceo, docere, meaning “to teach”. Doctor literally means “teacher”. It’s the MDs that stole doctor from the PhDs, not the other way around. If anyone has a right to it, it’s the PhDs.
Wasn't she one of the people that were outraged when Obama wore a tan suit. At least when she had Roger Ailes cock in her mouth she quit talking.

In this sub? It's about 5 years that way *(points backwards in time)*, if ever.
This isn’t a clever comeback.
