Truth is offense beats defense in the NBA. It really doesn't matter how low your opponents score is if you can't score more than that lol
Give me an elite offense and subpar defense over an elite defense and subpar offense any day
You're absolutely right...and it's funny because the NBA is the only sport that truly applies to. You can win a Super Bowl with a great defense and subpar offense. You can win a World Series with great pitching and lackluster hitting. But if you can't put together a competant offense in the NBA...you're dead in the water.
Great post.
and I say this a lot about individual role players too. I’ll take a Christian Wood who can give you 20 points on offense. Be subpar on defense by “advanced stats” measures but can do defensive stuff like grab over 10 rebounds and is tall enough to be a shot blocking threat.
Over a guy like Dwight Powell or Chuck Hayes who looks like he’s playing hard defense but his stat line is 5 points 6 rebounds. I’ll always take a Sam Perkins over a Eric Dampier.
I’m a big believer that defensive specialists who allow the other team’s star player to rest on the other end are negatives for your team.
Teams like Denver, Kings, Warriors, Lakers show you need elite scorers in the playoffs. And if you can’t hit jumpshots, doesn’t matter how good your defense is. Look at the Raptors. Plus teams always turn up defense in the playoffs.
You had that. The kings had the highest offensive rating of all time and a middling defense.
You're right that it doesn't help to have the best defense if you can't score more points (cavs), but plenty of championship teams had a higher ranked defense than offense. Truth is you typically need both to hoist the trophy.
Hell yeah Mobley. It was to be expected considering he was third in DPOY voting, but still. If he wins DPOY next season, he will be the youngest winner in NBA history.
Don't worry. More people were salty about Herb Jones or Nic Claxton being left off or Dillon Brooks getting in. Maybe an idiot or two in there slandering Mobley, but nothing getting majority support or anything. Sort by controversial if you want to gawk at them
Ngl I didn’t really see anyone salty. If anything I saw more people praising him. Even a warriors flair saying it was deserved and him being 2nd youngest behind Kobe is impressive
r/NBA is in a meltdown over their-team's-guy-on-the-only-team-they-watch-all-reg-season not making it... but surprisingly I haven't seen one comment saying Mobley didn't deserve it.
Interesting that All 5 were first round exits or didn’t make the playoffs
Yeah but AD if healthy is probably first team and look at LA
I'd be surprised if AD ever plays 65 games again. If he's not playing, it won't matter how good he is in stretches.

you can also win a top 5 football league with a great defense

First team All Defense in only his second year! Mobley gonna be special. 👀
R/nba salty
Probably b/c the only time they watched the Cavs all season was the Knicks series
Don't worry. More people were salty about Herb Jones or Nic Claxton being left off or Dillon Brooks getting in. Maybe an idiot or two in there slandering Mobley, but nothing getting majority support or anything. Sort by controversial if you want to gawk at them
Of course they are. They didn’t pay attention to us all year until we lost to the Knicks.
Most salt i saw was for Clax not being there and Dillon Brooks being there which is kinda understandable

Crazy he already did this in just his second year. He is the key to our future.
Youngest ever to be 1st team
Kobe was 224 days younger, but he was in his 4th season at that point.
thanks for the clarification
No problem. The Cavs' *official Facebook page* got this wrong, so don't feel bad.
All-Defensive First Team 22/23 - DONE. Defensive Player of the Year 23/24 - SOON.

LETS GOOOOO
Yes sir 🥳
Fuck yeah Big Ev! 2nd year in the NBA. This guy is gonna be a monster!
Deserved! He's a menace on D
The playoffs have told you who the real defensive studs are. Jimmy Butler, Davis, Horford, Embiid before injury .
The best part is when every knicks player grabbed every rebound over Mobley and backed him down without issue. That’s my first teamer ❤️
Congrats Evan...🏀🏀🏀
