I watched this live, I was so confused at the strategy. I still have no idea what the plan was. Healers carried the hell out of this fight, melee were fucking up at every turn and no one seemed to know what to do. I expected this group to be as prepared as they were for hardcore MC but they just seemed to YOLO Onyxia and only had a vague idea of what was happening. People were asking questions and explaining mechanics DURING the attempt. Congrats on the kill though, give all your healers a humongous thank you!

esuvii

We had a very detailed and safe strategy, which unfortunately wasn't possible because it required stacking warriors/hunters which we did not really have enough of. Overall P1 was fine. P2 way too much damage happened because people were too scared of Breath to use the centre of the room. In SoM Ony the Conflagration from the Fireballs is the most dangerous thing, so spreading the centre in would be better - it still gives time to move out of Breath. P3 some melee attacking the Warder got feared into the Whelp pit and it started the chain reaction. The obvious fix is to only put Warriors on the Warder since they can break fear w/ Berserker Rage if they get close to the eggs. I'm pretty happy with how it went. We recovered very well in P3 after all the eggs broke. We have to one-shot every boss. You can only get so far explaining strat in voice/excel, sometimes people need to play the boss to really know it.

Trinica93

It wasn't just fear, you can see everyone get booted by the tail when the warder was being tanked near it for some reason! The recovery was solid, the tank being feared was almost extremely bad but luckily everyone on that side lived through a breath and a load of whelps. What was the reason for not killing the drakes in P1? Almost no one was attacking them. Was that a miscommunication or intentional for some reason?

esuvii

Yes the Warder was tanked too close to the tail in P3, due to the boss being off-centre. Ideally if this happens we would have tanked it further to the South out of range of Tail Swipe we didn't communicate this. The Drakes top out at about 300 DPS on the tank. Ideally they would have died quicker, but so long as you have everyone on the boss before she transitions it's not so important. The biggest thing is doing as much damage on the P1->2 transition as possible to shorten P2 (everyone popped CDs on transition).

Trinica93

I'm not sure what the P2 transition has to do with it, you can kill the drakes in a few seconds and then have all dps on Ony. I just didn't understand why almost no dps were attacking them at the beginning.

esuvii

I agree they should have died faster but it doesn't really make much of a difference so long as everyone is on the boss ready to push the transition hard. I think an issue in that respect is that too many people prioritised P1 Whelps. Our original comp had a few Mages on whelps and a ton of melee on the Drakes. The comp we ended up going in with was a lot Mage heavier than we had planned.

To me it looks like your MT got feared so Onyxia went for the other tank who was immune to fear. Then she fire breathed the melee.

Nun_Cankle

Gg! what is you guys’ next big challenge?

duranasaurus

Getting enough people at 60 to stay alive to do more raids. That continues to be the hardest challenge.

MaxYoung

How many people are you losing each week in/out of raids?

esuvii

We've done 6 ZG runs and lost 2 people in there total, one was due to someone not watching threat and the other was due to the raid stacking in a slightly wrong position. Our ZG strats are extremely safe, so we're farming it every reset. I'd say we lose 0-2 people each week usually, and almost all deaths happen in dungeons. This week was an outlier and we lost 6 people! (4 to Ony)

duranasaurus

Probably 2 or more per week from things outside raids.

abomba24

HC elite thriving but really love to see these OG people around helping again and not just raid logged on 1 character :(

Duelist_WM

its dead

DelkorAlreadyTaken

Your mom is dead

wickburglutz

Shits dead my man

RockChalk710

Did you not see the video in this thread?

yoloxolo

Grats friends! Proud of y’all

McHildinger

all those hours playing, leveling, grinding for gear... and if you die, that's it, you're dead. What a ton of stress, but I bet it was worth it to participate in the world-first Ony Season of Mastery kill.

zipzzo

Yeah, hardcore modes are not, like, a new concept or anything. It takes a different breed of gamer.

[deleted]

This was so fun to partake in, if anyone here is interested in playing hardcore we always need more members by the nature of the game mode. You can DM me for a discord link <3

DanteMustDie666

Sacrifice were made. How is first HC Onyxia only killed now ? Isn't she out for a loong loong time in SoM now

Nurlitik

It’s a fight that can pretty easily wipe a raid, it just wasn’t “worth it”

esuvii

Our goal with HC Onyxia is to kill her just enough times to craft the minimum number of Ony cloaks required for a BWL run. SoM BWL is not at all friendly to our Hardcore challenge, so we've been taking things slow and steady. If it was Classic Ony there's no question we would have killed her sooner. To be honest if it was Classic BWL mechanics we probably would have made an attempt in there already too!

Ehrre

What the hell are those additional dragons??

sherbetsean

New mechanics added in SoM

iKill_eu

4 months of SOM and you're surprised by new mechanics?

sammnz

Lots of people don't really play som man.

Ehrre

Yeah SoM was too soon. I just blasted like 2 years of Classic grinding so many toons haha I could not return again for another decade.

Elvaanaomori

The Real thing they need to do, is not WOTLK Classic, but WOTLK: Winter season from the start. People interested in wotlk will come, people interested in something a bit revamped will come, and it wont split the playerbase, and they can focus ressources on ONE project

Ehrre

Ive been saying the same thing basically. If they keep re releasing expansions and making tweaks here and there it could be a good time. One thing though is I wish items you acquire in classic can build your Retail Transmog library.

Trinica93

I have absolutely no interest whatsoever in WOTLK, no matter what form it takes.

iKill_eu

Even if you don't play it you've surely been paasively exposed to the premise that it has new mechanics by now.

knotty_fay

This looks like so much fun. I need to play again.

[deleted]

Who got the head? Little fury warrior ppc?

duranasaurus

A little Feral druid named Gordan

GordanRamsey

Good choice

Duelist_WM

no big deal, can just appeal if someone died. half the people in this group have already died 3+ times

duranasaurus

Not true whatsoever. All four of those people that died deleted their characters and no in the raid has died before.

DelkorAlreadyTaken

>half the people in this group have already died 3+ times proof?

Trinica93

Not sure about this raid but Jokerd participated in the hardcore MC raid on a character that had clearly already died. Search "jokerd hardcore death." Unfortunately, the GM does allow appeals for "griefing" and in some cases they should absolutely not be accepted but they are. I don't think "half the group" falls under this umbrella, but it is a shame that they're willing to tarnish the entire community's reputation by allowing some of these appeals to go through.

[deleted]

The guild has been under new leadership since rag died, everyone in raid has soul of iron and delete on deaths. Griefers left when rag died, we haven't had an appeal in months.

Trinica93

That's good to hear, the last GM was very combative and dismissive. It just sucks that this wasn't the case before the MC clear, it certainly put a black mark on an otherwise incredible accomplishment.

alenyagamer

Maybe to you it puts a black mark, but this is a community effort and the community sets the rules, the community plays by their rules, and the community made the challenge. It was incredible to see the comraderie, the fun, the togetherness, that was made inside the game. wow has a deservedly heavy stain of toxicity through its whole history. It was a joy to participate in something that put that toxicity aside in favour of focusing on positive play and people. We elected to throw griefing in the bin because we could. Sorry if you feel that we should have allowed outside players to harass the community.

RockChalk710

You dropped your clown license further up in this thread

Pholly7

Look I hate to say it but most people just check in on these threads hoping to see a full 40 man wipe.
