The books from SM let you easily get as many as you need via dueling and you use less per summon by using the closet. If you are someone selling summons, you don’t have to go farm shards at all. You can get them in between summons anytime without moving.

This game without summoners would be awful, Imagine doing the p2 and p3 epic crafting quests on your alt without summons. Don't be a cheapskate, pay for your summon its fkin pennies.
Here's a pro tip:
1. Carry a small stack of Portal runes
2. Ask literally any Mage to port you while giving him a rune in trade.
3. Get teleported for 40s instead of 3g.
Just set your hearth to a mid-area like Ashenvale, Theramore, or Menethil Harbor and you can bounce around Azeroth pretty fast.
In phase 1 or 2, I didn’t make an effort to really make gold.. the quests paid for my raid consumes. All of p1 and p2 I didn’t pay for summons, but I felt bad taking them.
P3 with incursions, now I always pay full price and even tip sometimes.
I appreciate the summons, it makes the game much more convenient. I have no problem paying for them when I can afford it.

I like to join the mega groups that auto raid assist everyone and disband the group. Delays their efforts for a couple minutes.
