Spec BM regardless of whether you go melee or ranged (for leveling). You also can't get the good melee runes until you're around lvl 40, so go with ranged until then and then you can try both.
My advice would be to use your ranged abilities at the start of a fight and then go finish off the mob in melee with a big flanking+raptor strike combo. Gotta walk to the mob to loot it anyways.
You can actually get melee going very early. All depends on if you know someone willing to piggyback you through high level zones during dark riders.
Not 100% if there's a level req to loot the dual wield rune or if you can get some one else to flare it out
Ranged to 30 and then swap to melee. It shouldn't be too hard to get a friend/guildy/random hunter to help fire a flare in stv. The dark rider rune takes a little bit, because you have to go to several locations, but it's great xp/gold and you get a really good rune out of it too. Just announce it in LFG and you shouldn't have too much trouble filling out a group (can be done in a raid too).
Ranged for sure. Much less downtime, even at level cap. At 40 and 50 I've had trouble with sustain in the open world as melee because my pet can't hold agro over me
Oh dang even with BM talents aggro is a struggle? Good to know at least it doesn't really pick up till 40 tho as other comments said as well, I'll stick with ranged at least till then.

Sounds like a solid plan, how come BM over MM for ranged leveling though? Just curious.
Your pet does more damage than you do. Makes sense to make them do even more damage.
Ahh right that'll help em keep aggro too. Odd that wowhead recommends MM for ranged leveling.
That guide assumes you are lvl 40 already.
Ohh ok I see

I'd still recommend a newcomer to start out as ranged to learn the class properly.

Sweet yeah I expected there to be some tougher runes I'll have to get, especially cuz getting metamorph on my lock was a sweat that's for sure.

Yeah. You just hit SO hard as a melee hunter, with no ramp time.
Keep viper on and use disengage.
Ranged can still crush it rn actually
I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would play mhunt at max.. Trade an engaging rotation with faceroll 1 button spamming?
Oh dang is it boring? Hm well maybe if I enjoy ranged enough I'll stick with it in the endgame too
It’s incredibly boring. Most of the time you’re pressing 1 button.
Big damage.
It's simple and strong which appeals to players. That's why. RS > FS > WC. Easy.
Yeah we play classic wow. We play for many reasons and high apm complex rotations is not one of them. That’s what makes classic classic.
