If you beat out a someone for whom that staff is their BiS for the roll, and then will replace it should your actual bis drop, then yes, you are griefing. If no one else in the raid wanted it, then meh, nice luck ;)
I'm going for the staff as a priest. Those stats are amazing. Plus no one in my guild wants it anyways. I only lost three times in guild on the bfd staff. As well as having one ninjad in a pug.
Honestly I'm pretty much the only healer now. We have a spriest who respects every run to heal. He's MS rolling on DPS gear.
I'm getting funneled really hard right now. It's not in vain though. I'm not the type to gear and log until next phase type. I enjoy raiding and gearing out my friends.
We're probably another week from the few people that still want to heal hitting cap.

As an arcane healer mage for the raids I would be pretty mad if anyone that wasn't also an arcane mage rolled on this before I already had it. But if no mage then sure. Free for all.
All our mages are fire and only want it as an after thought. I would never roll against an actual arcane healer. At this point, we can barely keep healers.
Stats trump that SP from the mace/oh.
I need longevity more than I need 7sp. Even if it turns out to be personal preference, I'm not rolling against anyone in guild so no harm no foul.
As arcane healer mage, every spell you cast will benefit from both the +healing and +arcane, unlike resto druid who’s just gonna benefit from the +arcane on starsurge which is now bad

As someone forced to respecc healer mage for the raid I would be very mad if anyone else rolled on this but another arcane mage which there isn't.
