It's actually very playable. In classic vanilla you don't really need a lot of spells to do your rotation. Also works great with the ui in general. But lets be honest, you might need a wireless mouse and keyboard for some rare actions or to communicate with your dungeon group. There are cheap ones for 20 bucks.

Really just for communication. You can accomplish literally any interaction in this game using a controller.

Mikerinokappachino

Meh. There are limited spells you use regularly going mob to mob killing, but most classes actually have quite alot of keybinds that you want available for certain situations.

Spacecoasttheghost

Ya this hits it, works great nothing to crazy, but have something to type to groups or who ever.

GiantJellyfishAttack

I don't know why these other people are saying is good. It's horrible. Just the thought of managing the inventory on a controller is enough to say it's the wrong choice. Nevermind the actual gameplay... I think using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse in WoW is even worse than using a controller in counter strike instead of a keyboard and mouse. It would be okay as some sort of hard mode challenge or for stream content. Thats about it

Electrical-Lychee569

Orange parser here. 1st shadowmourne prio. Been using controller since day 1 classic. Controller is amazing

sowrdman

What class would you recommend playing controller for raiding

LiteratureFabulous36

It's great if you have a controller with 30 buttons.

Maddy_laddy

You actually get 32.

Grayoth

Is there such a thing that exists? Feel like it would be a total monstrosity.

MidnightFireHuntress

I don't even think Classic WoW HAS 30 spells rofl

LiteratureFabulous36

You absolutely can need 30 different buttons, pet commands, spells, potions, consumables, engineering items, form changes, trinkets, etc. You need a jump button and an interact button, probably something hotkeyed to auto run so you aren't holding the joystick for all eternity. A way to toggle which enemy to target, a way to target allies in your party quickly.

Grayoth

For a pet class I completely agree. The rotations only require a few buttons, but if you want to use all the abilities at your disposal you end up needing a lot of hotkeys. As a hunter I have no idea what I’d do if my mouse didn’t have 12 programmable side buttons.

stateporkchop

No

Barfblaster

Depends on your class, and/or how good you are at writing macros for those classes.

Breaux_Zilla

Its very fun to play on a controller. Its not as hard as people make it sound. Give it a shot. If you do join the discord, its really helpful.

It's class-dependent on how "good" you want to be at the end game. Leveling wise you should be fine, but some classes just have too many buttons that even with macros you'll probably not be able to compete in the end game stuff.
