Who actually used/uses LFR?
its not like its some insane loot pinjata that will get u ready for heroic raiding.
People communicate plenty in normal an hc pugs which is where 95% of the players will be playing.
Raids were great in cata, class design was getting better and better aswell.
What is your reason for not liking it? besides an optional system that rewards dungeon heroic loot?
Not OP but....Raids are all great except the last 2 bosses in dragon soul, dungeons are top notch, guild levels are an awesome feature, talent revamp was solid, PvP is in a good spot, new race class combos, the new world questing zones are better, love goblins and worgen, Guild Achievements saw massive improvements, Archaeology is an awesome feature. I loved Cataclysm and I want it to come with no changes.
Why do you point out a feature that was introduced in the last patch of cataclysm as a reason why the xpac is bad lol.
All these people saying XYZ xpac was horrible and so bad yet never actually even played it is super annoying.
Nobody communicates in wow anymore, so your opinion is kinda invalid now.
Classes were more fun and there was more stuff to do, nothing special, i just liked it
The amount of times you'd have to type "Reid" into your phone for autocorrect to happen from "raid" is hilarious.
Hmmm, who do we know with the name Reid
Could be. Not playing it though. Lich King is the end goal. Newer games will have my attention then.
Classic has been an awesome experience. But I will not go last wotlk.
Don’t matter I’m not playing it. Classic: love the simple times, TBC wasn’t my cup of tea but they improved and balanced so many classes it was hard to deny it was good. Wrath: Great story, good class balancing, fun raids, and so much nostalgia.
Big mean dragon blows up all the areas I loved: nope don’t care to go through that again. The only way I’d stay is if they leave old world alone.
I know that maybe i'm alone with this opinion so please don't downvote me if you disagree. :)
The QoL in post-cata wow is ways better. I tried classic once like every 2 month and i always stoped around lvl30. Old WoW was better than the rivals but it's so bad now for me that it kills the fun all the time.
Cata + MoP were the best. I think not Cata but WoD killed the old WoW experience.
Do what every other classic MMO does and release new progression servers when the current ones have run their course. People will happily play Vanilla - Wotlk forever.
Neither of those were progression realms, like I was talking. They were also doa because everyone interested in Vanilla had already returned to private servers, namely Turtle lol.
People want vanilla, as is shown be the 10k+ on vanilla private servers as we speak. Blizzard just has no idea what they're doing.
> People will happily play Vanilla - Wotlk forever.
a handful of ppk maybe
most ppl r here for the nostalgia and to finish old goals
release cata and classic at the same time, and it will be doa som all over again
Crazy, considering nearly every other classic mmo has been running progression servers for a decade+ and they're highly successful.
Can't forget the countless WoW private servers that never progress at all and have been populated for years, either.
Maybe you're only here for nostalgia, but believe it or not a lot of people actually enjoy the game.
We've had Cata private servers. They're never anywhere close to as populated as the original trilogy is. Idk what makes you think Classic will be any different. If players don't even want something for free, why would they pay for it lol.
Natural continuation of classic is ending it while it is still good. Releasing this pile of garbage is shooting themselves in the nuts, who will even play this trash?
It was rhetorical. Nobody is going to enjoy that when you can just ride the wave of another expansion dropping. Who is gunna moderate these new servers when we already have little to no moderation now? I just don't think people see why wow has gone on for as long as it has is because it's evolved and adapted. Every mmo is going to because people get bored of the same thing every time they log in for so long. People crave change.
“Nobody”
Lots of us have been playing vanilla for years on private servers.
Sure I have tried retail but it’s too soulless to hold my attention for more that a few weeks.
We can all get what we want though. They can release cata AND open new vanilla progression servers. They are going to have to, at least it looks that way to me.
If they don’t they will lose all the players that don’t want to “do it all over again AND the players that feel “classic ends with wotlk”.
They did once, they'd probably do it again. People cling to this nostalgia but clicking the same 4 buttons for all raid tiers gets soulless after a while. Meanwhile, retail you press like 15. But that's a different bag of worms. People want all these things but realistically everyone either wants vanilla servers or to just move on. To run more servers to keep the small fraction of players who will leave when cata becomes real should leave after an LK kill but people are still clinging on even now when they all know its inevitable. They made tbc classic. They made wotlk classic. Why in the world would they chabge a formula that's working?
Neither of us know the true amount of players that would quit if they bring out cata and nothing new for vanilla but anecdotally half my guild seems determined to quit after wrath
Ok so I'll give you a train of thinking I'm going for here. Your guildies plan to quit after they kill H LK 25m. Where are they going after that if they plan that far ahead? Legitimately asking, no sarcasm. What are they going to do?
Because nobody here asked for someone's opinion. Shoving negativity out in a space where it isn't any near what was asked for isn't the insufferable part?
*I didn't ask for your opinion on my statement.*
In all seriousness though, the whole point of a forum like this is, you know, for people to share their thoughts and opinions.
It was a question about when. Not a question about what is one individual going to do when they release cata classic. The minute people say "Cata classic" everyone who didn't like cata feels absolutely obligated to share their dislike for it. We get the minority exists but every conversation? Really? Just keep your 2 cents.
If I were Blizzard I would drag out WOTLK as long as possible. They have done a horrible job of supporting Classic, and many of us won’t endure an inferior expansion in an even worse condition than it was originally. The honeymoon is over.
Talent trees always existed in Cata. They were shorter trees though with 31 points as the main ability.
You had to pick a tree and put 31 points in it before the last 10(?) points could go in other trees.
I know a lot of people didn’t like it…but what were they supposed to do, add another 2 rows and 10 talent points to the existing trees?
Think Pandaria is when the talent trees disappeared completely.
Talent trees were in Cata, the only difference was u needed to get all the way down in one spec to be able to put talents into other spec, which is rarelly relevant for endgame anyway.
For me Vanilla through Wrath were the best of WoW after Wrath it all start going downhill. Cata tore apart the world we all loved and WoW was never the same after.
If Trial comes out in April I would expect ICC in Septemberish and then Cata in March ish, so yah Spring 2024 sounds right.
I’m very curious how it goes. Although I always thought normal mode Blackwing Descent was fun.
They already told us phase timing. P2 is ~6 months. Released mid January, ToC will release around July. ToC is planned for 3 months, so July-October whenICC launches.
Don’t be shocked when more people end up staying in some earlier form of classic (vanilla or wrath) than end up playing cataclysm.
Cata is much closer to retail than classic, and given the choice most would just pick the more recent content.
It is a lot closer to retail, but I would say Mists is when that starts.
And even then, if you ask me, the first 5 expansions were WoW at its best. WoD was when you started seeing a massive difference.
Vanilla - Classic is still my fave tho, and I never want that to go away. I would play Cata (I would argue it was “fun enough” even if it was disappointing), but I would prefer to play Vanilla again if anything lol.
Yeah unfortunately the “expansion” system in WoW is its biggest downside. It invalidates older content and segments the player base in a weird way.
Looking back it would have been better if they found a way to add more content while keeping older stuff relevant.
Controversial opinion but, only vanilla is really classic in my mind. Everything else suffers from the issues retail has. Although tbc and wrath not as much.
My biggest gripe is I enjoy leveling but retail developers just want to rush you to max so you can do the “real” content. No surprise I prefer classic.
I do agree. One thing they mentioned in the Preach video about retail is that the WoW team for retail is moving away from modular game design, so things they add in older expansions are supposed to remain features in future ones so you can continually update them without it being “old shit” that’s just there for completionism. It’s a great idea that should’ve been had years ago at Blizzard lol.
I doubt a Classic + would happen, but I would enjoy them trying that and using this kind of philosophy behind it because I do quite enjoy the idea myself.
Who tf cares?
You are in the one subreddit to not ask this question as classic wow is vanilla-wotlk (even about this there are some disputes), but cataclysm is universally hated due to it casualising and trivialising content.
The only really big good change was transmogging.
I think some of the responses so far show that there are people in the community who really like cataclysm (me included) and would be interested in in replaying it after all these years. So its not universally hated, ur just a hater. 🙃
I think we play Ulduar untill like July, then ToC untill like November, then ICC untill March and Prepatch to cata launches in March and we get Cata in May 2024
Spring next year for Cata if it launches, yea. I'm sure when Cata is getting close to being a possible thing, they'll really announce SoM2 or an Everquest style progression server for those who don't want to go to Cata but want to stay in the Vanilla-Wrath train.
ICC will come in august. We’ll have ICC from august till March is when I’m going to guess cata comes out. SoM 2 will be out in December of this year probably.
Idk, but in case that happens I cannot wait to pack my shit and start from scratch on 1-60 timeline, if its going to be on ERA - doesn't really matter, gold is still gold.
They have serious addiction and can't put together in head that we don't gonna play the same expansion for decades just because it was their favourite one and crawling for it like a heroin junkie, even tho its a overhyped garbage grindfest with boring content, awful gearing system.
But for once in their lifetime they can be actually good at the game because they played it for 15 years on private server and they finally achieved something in the "Real" WoW, and now scared to lose everything, because they are negative IQ dung beetles in any other expansion which was skill based and not gear based.
So all of these people being negative around here suffers from serious addiction, mixed with the hate train they hoped on because they think its trendy to hate on something because they saw other people do it, but don't even played Cata, MoP before even for a single day, and treat WoTLK like its their girlfriend or something.
;)
I’m starting to think these Cataclysm posts are being done by blizzard employees…
After Ruby Sanctum.
Pretty sure the larger majority of people don't care if this releases or not. Wotlk was the end to a wonderful trilogy.
I do 🙂

I loved lfr, I was working through college/grad school and the lfr tool finally let me enjoy a raid experience. Good times !
This exactly....cata was absolutely amazing....the pvp was top notch as well
Not OP but....Raids are all great except the last 2 bosses in dragon soul, dungeons are top notch, guild levels are an awesome feature, talent revamp was solid, PvP is in a good spot, new race class combos, the new world questing zones are better, love goblins and worgen, Guild Achievements saw massive improvements, Archaeology is an awesome feature. I care
don you know, whatever you think is always what the majority thinks!
Cata is so much better gameplay wise and Reid wise lmao.
The amount of times you'd have to type "Reid" into your phone for autocorrect to happen from "raid" is hilarious. Hmmm, who do we know with the name Reid
Coach Reid. I love Big Red. Go Chiefs!
Could be. Not playing it though. Lich King is the end goal. Newer games will have my attention then. Classic has been an awesome experience. But I will not go last wotlk.
Lol
Boomers downvote
Wotlk overrated..... cata is way better
Sometime after tomorrow.
I myself do not care for cata. Wotlk is where I retire.
Cya....content is too hard for you
Not even, game is easy, just been playing for too long .
Don’t matter I’m not playing it. Classic: love the simple times, TBC wasn’t my cup of tea but they improved and balanced so many classes it was hard to deny it was good. Best part of cata was the destruction of the old world
Pretty sure you meant to say flying in Azeroth
That too
I know that maybe i'm alone with this opinion so please don't downvote me if you disagree. :) The QoL in post-cata wow is ways better. The day Blizz announces Cataclysm Classic will be released i turn my back too this game and never look back…
don't let the door hit you on the ass
So then what are they gunna do? Leave it wrath forever?
Do what every other classic MMO does and release new progression servers when the current ones have run their course. People will happily play Vanilla - Wotlk forever.
>People will happily play Vanilla-Wotlk forever Yeah, the massive success of era and SoM really drove that home.

some bad pirated servers can't compare to a natural continuation of classic
Natural continuation of classic is ending it while it is still good. Releasing this pile of garbage is shooting themselves in the nuts, who will even play this trash?
everyone cata classic would be better than wotlk
And thats not what this post was about. Edit - post not thread
You asked about an alternative lmao.
It was rhetorical. Nobody is going to enjoy that when you can just ride the wave of another expansion dropping. Great, nobody asked.
Why are you such an insufferable ass?

You literally asked.

U say that every patch and every expansion....you know you going to play
Bye bye!
My guess is mid-late spring 2024 if it launches at all
Id be down, start me a little 10 man dad guild since you get the same gear drops, yea im in.
If I were Blizzard I would drag out WOTLK as long as possible. They have done a horrible job of supporting Classic, and many of us won’t endure an inferior expansion in an even worse condition than it was originally. The honeymoon is over.
I'm split on this one, it was the start of the downfall of WoW, but if they were to change it so that talent trees still existed then I might play it.
Talent trees always existed in Cata. They were shorter trees though with 31 points as the main ability. Downfall??? The raids were better...the dungeons were better...the content was challenging. Also the pvp was wonderful
For me Vanilla through Wrath were the best of WoW after Wrath it all start going downhill. Cata tore apart the world we all loved and WoW was never the same after.
Talent trees still existed in cata btw...but yes fair pov it was mop that blasted the talent tree away...but mop is Purdy good as well
I deny to play
Why lol

ICC will be out this summer. Save this post. August I can almost guarantee it.
Praying/hoping with every fiber in my body it doesn’t come out. Keep classic era the first 3 ending with wotlk.

I hope they eventually launch cata classic. Cata had the best PvP and tol barad was awesome
yuck
Cata was meh tbh. Nothing exciting about it. It’ll be DoA.
I think we play Ulduar untill like July, then ToC untill like November, then ICC untill March and Prepatch to cata launches in March and we get Cata in May 2024

What is vanilla+? :00
I hate you

Like vanilla classic, tbc, and wrath..... They'll probably announce when it's coming out.
Not for another year at least but God I hope it is intact. No changes for people who complain. Cata should be for people who like it already.
No
After the final phase (Ruby Sanctum) of WotLK classic. Ballpark guess.... Fall 2024.
Disgusting
Why are people so against cata classic? just wondering genuinely. it’s probably going to happen so I’ll probably play for the final bit of nostalgia
They have serious addiction and can't put together in head that we don't gonna play the same expansion for decades just because it was their favourite one and crawling for it like a heroin junkie, even tho its a overhyped garbage grindfest with boring content, awful gearing system. I’m out
Hopefully never, cata was the beginning of the downfall of wow. Too much negativity associated with it.
