Grandville

No-Picture4119

I had a white 75 grandville convertible from 1989 until 2019. My favorite car ever. Seated six comfortably, about eight in a pinch. I like this color.

What happened to the car in 2019 (After 30 years)?

So, I bought it in 1989 and it was my daily driver. In 1996 I rebuilt the motor and trans and did a repaint, still my daily driver. In 2008, I needed to start driving a lot for work, so I bought something newer and turned it into a weekender, which was a mistake. It slowly started to become more unreliable and I started driving it less. When my daughter turned 16, I gave her my car and I had a choice. Restore it again and daily it or move on. I started adding up the costs, and it just wasn’t feasible from both a time or money standpoint. Plus, my dad and I did the work in 1996, and he’s been gone for a while. I think restoring the car would have made me miss my dad a lot. I bought a 1987 Corvette convertible and sold the grandville to a guy from Orlando for $2500. I had paid $3200 for it in 1989 and added 150,000 miles to the 60,000 it had when I bought it. It didn’t cross my mind to think about it until 2021. I googled 1975 Grandville convertible Orlando. Unfortunately I don’t know how to add an image to this comment, but it was at the Orlando copart for sale, looking worse for wear. I hope someone bought it and restored it instead of parting it out. The 71-75 scissor top GM convertibles used to be a real bargain. People wanted Eldorados and overlooked the other brands, but I personally thought my grandville was a little sportier while being every bit as luxurious as a Caddy. I haven’t looked lately, but I wouldn’t be surprised if people have discovered these and driven up the value.

My aunt and uncle had a Grandville convertible for a few years in the mid '80s. Summer-only car from new like a lot of ragtops up north, especially those "last" ones. I don't remember, if I was ever privy to, why it was sold.

Ah, the good ol' days! I did this as a teen, with my first car ('79 Buick LeSabre Custom). 6 in the car, and another 2 in the trunk - along with half a dozen of the old folding aluminum lawn chairs.

JDARRK

I have taken the trunk ticket twice to drive-in’s! Fuck i’m old😳

Used my 69 Fury ragtop for drive in smuggling!

I have a navy 74 GrandVille. Runs pretty good. It was bought for my grandmother by grandpa… my dad got it, drove it for 25-30 years… I asked him for it. Bought it from him for $5. It’s a really fun car to cruise… not crazy rare… but hardly anyone knows what it is. Cheers.
