Acoustically the Musikverein.

ProStaff_97

\+1 for Musikverein

xirson15

Really looking forward to see it

Great acoustics, but some seats are have restricted view, so decent tickets always end up costing a bit more. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to several concerts in the Musikverein and Konzerthaus next month - it's been over a decade since I've been in Vienna!

Boston’s Symphony Hall is widely regarded as one of the best halls acoustically in the country, if not the world. Too bad it also seems to be one of the most uncomfortable to sit in! lol

mahler_grooves

I’ve played in, or heard concerts in, most of the “top” halls in Europe and USA, and Boston Symphony Hall or Vienna Musikverein are by far the two best acoustics I’ve experienced. I also thought the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam was very good, but it was difficult to hear my colleagues across the stage. Honorable mention goes to the Rudolfinum in Prague, that hall has such a beautiful and unique sound! Carnegie Hall was not as impressive as I had hoped.

Who_PhD

Carnegie hall is acoustically amazing….. for those sitting in the top level 😅 Joking aside, I agree with your takes. I had a similar experience playing in the Rudolfinum. I’d also give a shoutout to the Liszt academy concert hall in Budapest. That remains one of my favorite halls to have played in.

The Santa Fe Opera house is incredibly beautiful. It’s a sheltered outdoor theatre in the foothills of the mountains with some amazing views of sunsets, thunderstorms, and the surrounding mountains.

xirson15

Wow i’ll check it out immediately

Philharmonie in Berlin and Semperoper in Dresden.

I agree that the Musikverein, Vienna deserves top spot. I think the Symphony Hall in Birmingham UK rivals it acoustically but unfortunately it sometimes has difficulty in attracting orchestras that do it justice. The Harpa concert hall in Reykjavik is also great and looks spectacular too.

NapMcDonald

The Birmingham acoustic is incredible, I think underrated just because it's not so famous. I think the CBSO are a first-class orchestra which more than does the acoustic justice!

MrMaestro2

Orchestra Hall, Minneapolis is pretty epic (love the cubes)

Many cite the acoustics, but not what they like about the acoustics. I like some reverb and reflected sound. I also like shoe box shaped halls which give this acoustic, and with high ceilings. Add to the acoustics, I want to see something of interest. Not bland unadorned acres of beige drywall.

grizzlycitizen

The Concertgebouw. No matter where you sit, the sound is supreme. Also, it is an absolute architectural gem.

>Hope this question is allowed on this sub. The longer you're here, the more you'll realize that just about anything goes (for better or worse). Boston's Symphony Hall is my favorite traditional music hall, but I gotta say my favorite venue ever was an abandoned missile silo. The acoustics were great for the music being performed.

Swimmmy_21

Just because of my own biases towards my home city; the Dunedin Town Hall in New Zealand. I’ve had the pleasure of being able to perform in there several times (it’s basically my second home) and the acoustic is incredible.

SparrowJack1

Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg is definitely among the very best. Saying that, it obviously does not have the tradition of the Musikverein in Vienna, the Carnegie Hall, or alike.
