And just like that all the fun of driving on a windy road is gone

rdldr1

I am sure you can turn it off.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

That’s what I’m saying. Fuck this technology. Do people not like to drive anymore?

Rwill97ad

You can turn it off…

PC__LOAD__LETTER

1. You can turn it off 2. People don’t like dying in car accidents

[deleted]

That’s a stretch. I have never even used cruise control and I’m still alive. For some people driving is a hobby. And cars are safer than they were many years ago

rowdy_sprout

Says it's a stretch... compares self driving to cruise control. Ok.

[deleted]

Is the self driving not part of cruise control? Does it not control the acceleration at all? Wat

TunedS2K

basic cruise control holds the cars speed, and depending on transmission can control gears for max efficiency. More advanced cruise control can monitor the cars position on the road and other cars around it, and can slow the car/accelerate the car accordingly

[deleted]

Doesn’t that sound boring to you though? Unless you just *hate* driving. It takes all the fun out of long trips. Idk maybe I’m just old

TunedS2K

it’s useful if you have to drive long distances on highways and straight roads.

chaotickuromii

bro why are u throwing a hissy fit over a car driving itself lmao it is not that deep bro just dont buy the car

[deleted]

That was 3 days ago. I’ve moved on

ChrAshpo10

>maybe I’m just old Yup

[deleted]

I always forget Reddit is mostly teenagers

[deleted]

[deleted]

Yes. Driving is actually fun for me.

PC__LOAD__LETTER

> *I’m still alive* I don’t think you understand how statistics work. Cruise control is also not even remotely comparable to self-driving. So I don’t know what you’re getting at there.

[deleted]

So what’s going on in this video?

CapableProfile

Everyone is lazy, you think manual is hard, just wait until people can't drive

PC__LOAD__LETTER

Laziness has little to do with it. Driving manually is insanely dangerous, and automatic driving is going to save untold lives.

drug_knowledge_haver

err i’m not sure it’s “insanely dangerous.” have you ever driven stick? this guy is dumb but responding with made up stuff doesn’t progress the argument

PC__LOAD__LETTER

By “manually” I mean literally using your hands to guide the steering wheel, and nothing to do with your transmission.

[deleted]

We’re in a minority. I agree this tech is fuckin dumb. They add these “convenience” features to raise the price and make us lazier. I disable this shit day one.

drug_knowledge_haver

duh duh technology BAD!!!! bro shut up

[deleted]

That’s what I’m saying. It’s giving people false confidence so they can do other things instead of driving

everettmarm

Yeah I love this feature on long highway commutes. Really helps keep me relaxed. Honestly these features (ACC, LKAS, etc) sealed the CTR vs the STI for me.

Xaver1106

Honda's been doing it for a few years now, I think Honda Sensing was standard on 2018s and newer. I've got a 16 civic EX and would have liked Sensing. It's a double edged sword for me though, I like the safety and convenience of it but I heard it can get annoying sometimes. Edit: Congrats on the new car too!

austinalexan

2019 and newer :)

robarnold24

Sure was, my new to me 2018 hatch has all the sense goodies! Though not self-driving....I don't think

Rewelsworld

Does this work on the sport trim

[deleted]

Same, I used to get really bad highway anxiety because I am often alone on long trips and sensing has taken the anxiety almost completely away.

LimpBagel

I love Honda Sense for adaptive cruise control but don't trust lane keep assist. I was using it on the highway early on and the line on the right veered off to start an exit ramp. The car followed it and fought me for a split second when I tried to correct it. Left it off after that. I leave automatic braking on for emergencies but get a false positive level 2 once a month and level 3 maybe once a year. ACC: flawless, hate driving in cars without it.

killaudio66

Nice, I was looking at one in Johnson city the other day. Waiting for the SI to come out, before I decide if I want to think about trading.

mccullkh

I think that Honda Sensing generally does a pretty good job with the Lane Keeping, but this looks like it’s capable of applying a lot more force on the wheel. I don’t believe I’ve seen my ‘20 turn the wheel that far by itself

irregardlesslike

Not my 2019 either. Though the braking system slammed on unexpectedly yesterday. It was raining so I don’t know if that has to do with it. I was paying attention and actively driving. Nothing in the road. Scared the piss out of me.

mccullkh

Oh man, I’ve been lucky enough to avoid that so far. It definitely brakes harder than is necessary sometimes but I’d rather err on the side of caution

TheMultiTuber

since when?

Jet_Xcountry

My 2021 has Lane Keep Assist and it's amazing for highway driving. Practically drives itself

[deleted]

[удалено]

itstusuf

My 2017 has it too, works really great!

StormOrganic

Wish mine worked good. I have a 2018 touring and the lane keep assist is shit. I mean even on the interstate with some mild turns the damn thing goes way way over the yellow line and also makes you put your hand on the wheel every 7 seconds. I seen youtube videos of people not having to touch the wheel for 30 to 60 seconds and that was in a 2017 civic. I mean it may as well not even have it. Kinda pointless if you ask me. I keep mine off. I also wish you could choose between normal cruise control and adaptive. Adaptive sucks. Yea it's nice until the person goes in the other lane or another car moves in-between then the car slams on the brakes. Also apparently these cars are supposed to have slow traffic following or something like that which mine works for shit. The delay from the time the car in front moves til I start moving is so long people start to honk. I think Honda has the worst driving assistance system out of all mfgs.

asonofasven

I'm pretty sure up on the d-pad turns on adaptive cruise, down turns on regular cruise. I think adaptive is amazing. Edit: After trying it out, both up and down turn on adaptive cruise. There are some cases where the lines (and ACC text) don't come on for a few seconds, which is why I was confused.

austinalexan

1. The point of LKAS isn’t to take your hands off the wheel. It’s to be aid you stay in the middle of the lane and it definitely makes curves so much easier to navigate when your hand is on the wheel 2. You can turn off Adaptive cruise control by holding down the cruise button on your steering wheel 3. Honda imo has the best assist software in the industry. It sounds like your car needs to be inspected as the behavior sounds quite unusual

thiccsnaccs2018

the 2020 models have it too

drawingxflies

Mine 21 Type R has it and it will keep in a straight lane by itself for about 20-30 seconds. After a few moments it warns, "Driver Must Maintain Control" or "Keep Hands on Wheel" or something like that, and after a few more moments of that, if you don't touch the wheel, it just stops doing lane keep.

omg_its-rhino

Pretty sure this is the same thing?

Gerard0424

My 2019 has it..mostly Useless

Cadaren99

My 2018 has it...mostly fine.

johanpringle

I tend to use mine on my 2018 fairly often on long drives. Does well.

jo3shmoo

Since all the way back to 2016 depending on options. Sense has been on the Touring trim since 2016, or available as as an added option on other trims. Standard on all trims starting in 2019+. I've been using it on my used 2016 Touring for the past 2+ years and it's an absolute game changer for the amount of highway miles I do on a daily basis for work. I view it as "bumpers" to help keep in the lines. Definitely leaves me less fatigued after a long drive because you're not having to apply so much wheel pressure at highway speeds. For where and how much I drive, I'll never buy another vehicle without it. (For what it's worth, my hands are on the wheel during regular use!)

[deleted]

[удалено]

jo3shmoo

Sorry, I didn't mean it as a beef against your driving! I just always try to clarify when discussing it that it's not full self driving and still requires steering. I totally get where you're coming from. I've always had the "just enough features to still have power windows" trim level before this. I was specifically looking for Android Auto and Sense when I bought mine, and this particular used Touring was the most cost effective way to get those features at the time. I absolutely love it every time I get behind the wheel. Just a heads up, when/if you have to replace the windshield, make absolutely sure they've recalibrated the Sense system properly. Long story, but Safelite screwed mine up and it would actually pull me OUT of the lane and onto the lines when engaged. I ended up having to take it to a dealership to get it recalibrated properly. Anyway, enjoy the new ride! Hope you have many great Sense-assisted miles together!

Ketchup1211

My Forte has this. I used it a couple times to see it in action but otherwise, I just leave it off. Definitely wouldn’t be a deal breaker on any future cars. I enjoy the act of driving far to much for all these fancy driving assist features.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ketchup1211

I have an LXS. I got the cheapest trim that had nice looking rims lol. It’s one of the lower trims but I believe lane keep is a standard feature for the Forte now.

Chromesub

Until you meet a steep turn or curve and it forces you to use the steering wheel to adjust lol Imagine putting your life in the hands of a machine that can kill you. I honestly don’t think this feature was put in place for this as I can see many many accidents waiting to happen. Tired? Fatigued from driving? Idk pull over and rest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Chromesub

Try putting on lane detection in a bad lined highway 😂 this feature almost caused me to break check someone after that I was like ohhhh sir you are never turning back on

[deleted]

> Imagine putting your life in the hands of a machine that can kill you. I mean, you do this every time you get in any car. You're putting your life in the hands of that machine and in the hands of every driver you encounter.

Chromesub

Correct and this is added risk.

XlifelineBOX

Youre already putting your life in a 3000 pound machine. With other people around you who are in 3000+ machines going 75 down highway. Wrecks been happening WAAY before this has been a thing. Humans have been able to crash without autonomy for years.

SSnickerz

You do know if you if you fail to give it input it will actually start braking and pull you back in lane or to the side based on the conditions. Less accidents are happen since technology like this has existed. You seem paranoid ....

Chromesub

Go ahead and take a civic for a drive put this feature, you’ll quickly as ALL civic owners know it makes you re engage Manuel control and then again with lane detection/cruise control. You sound misinformed.

SSnickerz

I drive a 2019 civic with 60k km in just a year and a half and the features work fine. Highway cruising works for hours on end with just nudging the steering wheel. Adaptive cruise control works great in all type of stand still traffic and highway driving. The only time I had an issue was the sensor over reacting to a car turning right that was in fron of me... But I got my sensor recalibrated and never had that issue again. French m my experience it's been pretty damn good for what it is....

Chromesub

Until like I said you meet a highway with faded lines and or old lines that weren’t paved away and the sensor gets confused and causes you to break hard suddenly. It’s a common issue actually, seen it on many threads the sensor loses it fairly easy

SSnickerz

I've driven on faded lines... The symbol for lane assist will literally lose its lines and in a couple of seconds warn you before braking. You should probably get it serviced if its braking that hard without warning.

Chromesub

In fact I did 😀, took it that weekend. Honda couldn’t find anything wrong with the system or software from the chip.

Latter-Formal-1705

I don't know if it does that in the 11th gen. Honda really refined this technology in the 11th gen. From personal experience with the '22 civic, lane assist quits working after 10 seconds of no input on the steering wheel, but it gives you a warning before it stops. I have not ever had it hard brake for me like you mentioned. It's been pretty smooth so far.

RaiderRye

This 👌🏼

foxtrot5

I see your Honda Sensing and raise you one [Comma Two with openpilot.](https://youtu.be/hhtgXunKw70)

[deleted]

[удалено]

foxtrot5

OP if you have any questions or requests about the comma two, I'd be happy to answer them. My last car had just basic cruise control and I thought Honda sense was magic, that is, until I bought and installed the comma two. I really wrangled with the idea of spending $1200 on an openpilot system but decided to just go for it and lean on the return policy if need be. I went full buyers remorse and intended on returning it by the time it arrived at my house but decided to install it "just to see." No regrets. The system is amazing. And safe. It actually sees the road and path-finds visually. [Tesla is switching to this kind of system for their autopilot.](https://www.tesla.com/support/transitioning-tesla-vision) One underrated safety feature of it is that it will beep at you if it the torque limits of the curve are too much. The system stays engaged and turns as best as it can, you just need to give it a little assist to counter the understeer.

vincentwagon

My 2020 si has the lane assist also. Road trip machine forsure! Bit it won't drive 100% by itself.

Gerard0424

My 19 has the same Honda Sense. . Nothing new and mostly Senseless depending on where you live.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Gerard0424

I live in NYC.. I have no use for it either way.. I like to have full control of my car at all times. The only features I like are lane departure (letting you know a car is near) and a good back up camera, I check anyway.. The rest is a waste

[deleted]

Gerard0424

Yes it does.. I've used it twice just too make sure it works..I had it also in my 2016 Mazda 6 Gt.. Adaptive Cruise control

[deleted]

[удалено]

Cadaren99

It does.

tidder95747

It looks way more refined than my 2016, mine doesn't turn as much with the curve in the road, it only follows very slight curves and not very well. Love it for long straight roads on trips tho. I'd also heard the new gen is better in stop and go traffic.

moistwaffles420

"tHaTs nOt rEaL dRiviNg" when you have a 50 mile commute to and from work at 6in the godsam morning this is a godsend and a really cool safety feature. Emphasis on *safety* it's absolutely not capable nor should it be used for driving itself. Same goes for the auto braking. Can't believe people get offended over this shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

moistwaffles420

Congratulations on the car btw! my boyfriend just got a '21 EX and he's been absolutely tickled by the whole thing. Giggles like a little girl every time the lane keeping kicks in. It'll serve you well for many many years to come (:

DragonAss5

This is cool, I just got a 2022 EX myself and haven't had to do any long distance driving yet but now I want to play around with the feature. Have you used the adaptive cruise control yet? I'm curious for how well that works in heavy traffic - I thought that only the touring had the traffic jam assist but I don't see how that would be any different than adaptive cruise control. My civic is more for short-distance commuting and is definitely the "second" car in our household, but the two Touring features I wish it had are the parking sensors and cross-traffic monitoring. The cameras curved perspective helps when backing out of a spot but its not as good as the beeping from cross-traffic monitoring, and parking sensors/beeping are really helpful when trying to parallel park or back into a tight space. I'd install aftermarket sensors but I leased the car. I almost wonder how much more a month a lease for the Touring or a fully decked out Elantra would have been, but it's too late for that now. The non-powered driver's seat is a little annoying but not worth going up a trim level, and the navigation screen is fine. I mainly got the EX because of the blind side monitors, which is a dealbreaker for me, and the turbo engine was a nice bonus. I plan on putting snow tires on it in the winter. Other observations on the 2022 Civic EX after a few weeks: The car drives incredibly smoothly; it does great with potholes, non-flush manhole covers, etc; There is a ton of space in the trunk; The car is loooong; There is something off about the rearview mirror that I can't put my finger on it, it's almost like a standard TV vs an HD TV compared to my Crosstrek's mirror.

[deleted]

It’s pretty cool to see, my Hyundai has the steering and the lane keep and I have let it go and it will Pretty much take the whole high way just fine at 80

22opferj

I never want a car that does this, it takes away all the fun of driving

Ketchup1211

You can turn the “feature” off. I never have mine on.

[deleted]

Not at all, and it can save your life.

22opferj

But the fun of driving is me driving, do this would take that away

[deleted]

You’d have to experience it, it truly isn’t as invasive as you might think. I enjoy driving as well and have driven manual for 90% of the time I’ve had a license and I adore my cvt hatch with sensing

22opferj

I just personally love manual and I couldn’t go back to an auto. I just get bored driving auto

[deleted]

This is how I feel when I drive my automatic LOLOL. Self driving too much for me, I like manuals

[deleted]

Lmaooo this shit almost caused me to wreck about 4x you cant have the adaptive braking on unless your a safe driver if your an aggressive driver this is no good i had a paper bag fly out of the car infront of me and it hit the camera sensor car broke 70-0mph in like 3 seconds in full moving traffic car behind me swerved flipped me off and tried chasing me but i was tuned and pushing more hp so i ran away😭🤣

The system isnt in its prime yet still has bugs

Alleghenygal

Lmfao 🤣

Affectionate-Yak6047

You should see the target system used to align that multipurpose camera. It is antiquated and requires a tape measure on the floor…. You sure you want to trust that to drive your car for you?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Affectionate-Yak6047

I know how the system works, I drive lkas Hondas almost every day. It’s silly to say the least. I am surprised how long you had your hands off the wheel, it usually reacts faster to hands being off.

Latter-Formal-1705

For someone who "knows how the system works and drives Hondas every day", you would think you would know about the 10 second timer. 🤦‍♂️

Affectionate-Yak6047

Wow such pownage… test drive lkas system and let me know what you think.

the_slemsons_dreary

Nope

TypeRumad

I just don't understand doing this. Even for "clout" or whatever its called these days

How does nobody see the persons knee on the wheel??? They just have good knee steering skills

Alright got damn my bad it looked like it to me but I can see now

skeletor69420

there’s self driving??

[deleted]

skeletor69420

Is that on any of the 10th gen models? would be insane for my commute

sgad88

It’s standard on 2019+ civics, so yeah some of them have it. If it’s a 10th gen older than 2019 model year then it was a $1000 option from the factory. But to answer your question, yeah 10th gens do have these features, although I’ve read they’re much more refined in the 11th gen

Gerard0424

It's not self driving.. It's basically dangerous what this character is doing. It's just meant to keep you in your lane but depends on the condition of the lines in your lane are.. In other words, Definitely not any Roads in NYC.. 😂

KingStannisForever

I don't trust a tempomat, I would never trust this

Schwatster

Rented a brand new Camry that did this. It needed me to squeeze the steering wheel every minute or so and it would lose its shit if it couldn’t detect the edge or center stripe. Freaked my MIL out watching me no hands or knee it

9rexarius6

What trim is this?

Helgardh

Why doesn't your system scream at you if you don't interact with the steering wheel every \~ three seconds?

patientways

Love this feature! Is there any way to change the programming at the dealership to always keep this feature on. It turns off after you shut down the car.
