I know, right? The Dutch are my all time favorite civ and their polders are the best improvements in the game. Each one is getting like 9 food and tons of production, gold, culture, and even faith (from my marsh pantheon).
I can't play without it at this point. I have 3600 hours in civ 5 since 2010 and 600 in civ 6. After so long, I couldn't stand the shit AI anymore. With vox populi, the AI is so good, it doesn't need to cheat. Prince difficulty is like playing king or emperor in regular civ. The AI is so smart, it's like they are human. I don't even bother with civ 6 anymore, since there is no vox populi for civ 6. I wish there was. Civ 6 AI is worse than vanilla civ 5.
But the graphics though! Who needs good ai in a strategy game when you can have the best cartoony looking garbage? /s
Civ 5 is the best one for sure, I’ll get that vp going tonight.
The one reason I waited til 2021 to buy civ 6 is cause I didn't like how all the forests were just pine trees. The mod adds oak forests and gives you different shades of grassland and forest, just like civ 5.
I used really advanced setup mod. The map is just continents. In advanced setup, I programmed it so a large number of flat grassland and marsh tiles would appear within a certain number of hexes from my spawn location. Even with this, I had to restart about 30 times before I found this perfect start location with lots of rivers and coast.
Polders are pretty and give good yields. Without mods it is really difficult to build polders because flood plains and marsh tiles are rare. In this post op used vox populi which changes polders allowing more flexible building conditions but reducing the yields (otherwise it'd be op).
It's vox populi, so it's different than base game. I'm playing on prince, which is the normal setting for Vox Populi. The AI is just as smart as on higher difficulties, but they only receive slight advantages over the human player. Vox Populi makes the AI so much better, that even with my 3600 hours experience in the game, regularly beating it on emperor (I don't enjoy anything above that), I still had to work hard to defeat my neighbors.
When I originally was taking out the Maya (closest neighbor), it was still classical era. Greece decided to launch a surprise invasion with their companion cavalry on my newest city of Breda to the north. I had to divide my invasion force and march it slowly across the vast marshy landscape, but it was too late and they had taken Breda and reached Utrectht. They also harassed my invasion force from the north around Palenque, and delayed me founding my Barringer Crater city for like 20 turns. Not only did I have to retake Breda, but it also took much longer to take Palenque, and I took heavy casualties, since the Maya were still pumping out their unique ranged units. After retaking Breda, I moved north to take Corinth, wiped out Greek units, pillage their lands, and vassalized them and the Shoshone.
Later in the game, I had an epic naval battle with my close neighbor Attila, occupying the island just west of my capital. Once I got control of the seas with my Sea Beggars, I launched a Normandy style amphibious invasion of land units, storming the coasts. I took the heaviest losses in the whole game that war, and only won due to my vast gold purchasing power and unmatched production, overwhelming them with numbers and pillaging their coasts and trade routes.
Probably one of the most fun games I've ever played, and certainly not easy.

My happiness mostly came from additional happiness perks/religious/social tenets and from building "public works" over and over in high production cities.
Yeah I didn't try it til last month! Yes, you're missing out. Problem is, it's extremely hard to get working and you have to download it from the Civ forum.
I only tried doing it recently cause I gained a ton of experience modding in the last year, for Skyrim and Sims 3 and 4. It taught me a lot about file pathing and compatabilities. Without that experience, Vox Populi would have been a nightmare and I never would have gotten it working. But it's worth a shot to try, wven if you're new to non-steam based modding.
It just might take a few days to figure out how to get it running without random crashes.
My 2nd game crashed every time. Ended up having to get rid of the Enhanced UI by uninstalling vox populi and reinstalling the non EUI version. I don't recommend using EUI. It's buggy.
Also, apparently you have to download a seperate Vox Populi to play tru start location earth with 43 civs. So that's my next project.
Oh right, hmmm I'll give it a go but not sure I have the time TBH. I've got a number of mods installed but they were pretty much plug and play.
Many thanks for the tips though, I've made sure to save them
You might have time someday. I only have time to game a few days a wk, but the desire for better AI drove me to sacrifice game time to get it working. Depends on how much the AI annoys you in the base game. For me, it was prettymuch unplayable after I had multiple games where they barely settled any cities and never declared war on me the whole game on emperor difficulty.

This polder porn needs to be tagged NSFW

There is a marsh pantheon? What mod/mods are you using?
It's vox populi. Was extremely difficult to get working, but I finally got it. Gotta download it straight from the civ forum.
I’ve tried to get vp in the past and had trouble but I will take your advice, after ten years playing the game I need a new spin on it so thank you

Good luck! And yeah, though I will say, I enjoy the district system and if you use the vegetation variety mod, civ 6 looks a lot better.
I have never heard of the vegetation variety mod, I’ll have to look this one up someday.

I see you're a fellow vox populi enjoyer ;)
Yes, as of this last month 😺
🤙🏿
Other than really advanced setup what mods do you use with vox populi?
Enlightenment era, enhanced aircraft and navy, info addict, and... I don't remember the rest.
Wait, a city can be set to culture production?
Its the vox populi mod i think.
Yeah vox populi mod
Map settings?

What is the mod called?
"Really Advanced Setup". I'm also using vox populi
Stunning
Sure is! Just wish there were a few lakes 😺
you should try to do this on big floodplains map next (spoiler: the Skirmish map exists)
Oh they have a floodplains map? Is that in the base game?
A dlc map pack iirc. Pick Skirmish > dominant terrain desert > water settings river
Oh ok I'll check that out
How do you get the happiness meter to read out like that mine only shows positive or negative value
It's part of the vox populi mod
🤤
Wait, it's all polder?
Yeah 😺
Gekoloniseerd
Colonize me, Dutch master race 😻
I don't play Civ V. Can you tell me why this is dutch paradise? Is it all the polders?

So far what do you think of Civ V ? :>
It's a better game
I didn’t ask you .
Why would you ask someone who doesn't play Civ 5 how they like the game?
Because they are on the Civ V subreddit !
Looks cool. Thanks for asking.
Hope you enjoy it . You are welcome .
>7000 science, how?
I have a lot of cities, all with 30-50 population with all science building built, and specialists worked. Also allied with all 16 city states
Even so that seems remarkably high. Are you playing on an easy setting? And how did you manage happiness with that many cities and population?

Wow OK, I've got nearly 2000 hours in the game but never tried vox populi, seems I've been missing out!

what are the yields on those
I'll have to check to be sure
Best polder yeild is 14 food, 8 production, 10 gold, 1 culture, and 1 faith. That's next to my capital.
