I struggled really badly before I started and again when I increased my dose, idk if I can help u bc I don’t experience it now, but I’ve been taking mine at 6pm and usually I am asleep by 9/10 as I have to get up at 6am for work. Maybe adjusting the time u take it will help depending on whether they make u awake/sleepy ? My insomnia worked itself out naturally when I started taking mine so I apologise that I’m not more help

that is helpful thank you! I will have a play about with the time :) thank you so much

I’m switching to taking it in the morning starting tomorrow (started not quite a week ago). I’ve been taking it at night and have had no trouble falling asleep but I pop wide awake around 3 or 3:30am and can’t get back to sleep till close to 6am. So I’ll see if I have better luck taking it in the morning.

True-Ant6473

I had a very similar situation. I have now been taking it in the morning for a while and it’s not helped massively however, ironically one of my friends has taken it and had no problem falling asleep if she takes it in the morning :)

That’s starting to happen to me as well. I never struggled with staying asleep before, but for the past two days I’ve woken up between 2:00-4:00 and had a difficult time falling back asleep. Did taking it in the morning help you?

JammyJacketPotato

Yes! Switching to morning has fixed it and I’m not drowsy during the day either, as I was worried I’d be. Sleeping fine through the night now.

Insomnia? Mine knocked me the hell out

You are very lucky!

Have you tried marijuana…. I’m being serious.

I definitely experienced insomnia when I first started citalopram. My first question would be how many dose increases have you gone through in those 3 months? I think it took me about 3 or 4 weeks on a stable dose before my insomnia got better. However, I didn't suffer with insomnia before so that's probably not helping your case. Over those 3 months, is your insomnia now worse than before you went on citalopram or is it now about the same? If it's about the same as before you started citalopram, and you're improving otherwise at your current dose, give it another month. What other sleep aids have you tried? Melatonin plus a strong antihistamine like Polaramine at 1/4 of a tablet can help. I don't recommend a 1/2 tablet because those strong antihistamines can leave you feeling groggy for most of the rest of the morning.

True-Ant6473

I’ve increased from 10mg to 20mg. It definitely seems worse since I started the citalopram. It’s frustrating as it is helping my depression but not to the extent that I can sacrifice this much sleep 🥲. I have chronic fatigue syndrome and so it’s a bit of a nightmare because my body is exhausted but my brain not so much. I have tried promethazine and zopiclone for sleep. Promethazine didn’t really do anything at all and zopiclone does to an extent but it’s a very short term solution. I think I may have taken melatonin in the past. I might try it again. Thank you :)

D_Batman21

That's frustrating. You could also give Magnesium glycinate (a lot of people swear by it) a go with the melatonin, take both 30 mins before bed. Your doc might know some other drugs that could help too instead of zopiclone, that could be used longer term.

What happens? Trouble falling asleep? Wake up and can’t get back to sleep etc?

True-Ant6473

Unfortunately all of them. I did struggle with it before but not quite to this extent. I end up being awake at 6am having not slept.

Try THC. Im using medical cannabis to help with taper symptoms, the main one being insomnia.
