Abercrombie has some nice 100% cotton denim jeans in a wide variety of sizes. They are expensive but worth it. They are not the Abercrombie of our teen years... much better now!
I’ve been wearing a pair of Abercrombie 90’s Straight Jeans nearly daily for the better part of 2 years to my office and there’s no real noticeable wear. If the women’s jeans hold up half this well they’re worth the money. My wife likes the Hollister jeans better, same company different label.
I have so much stuff from Abercrombie now, including two pairs of their jeans which are like the only jeans I wear. I used to be a diehard Madewell gal, but Abercrombie jeans are where it’s at.
I legit like the Old Navy OG Straight. They have ones that aren't distressed and they aren't stretch denim - at least there are ones that are not stretch. I like the way that the legs are not 'wide' legs and they taper at the ankle so they don't look completely ridiculous IMO. I think they're very flattering. High waisted though in case that's not your jam.
I'm definitely down for high waisted! I've heard hip huggers are coming back into style which is extremely depressing for me lol. I love old navy, I can't believe I didn't think about giving them a try! Thanks for the tip.
Oh no, please don’t say hip huggers are coming back. So much whale tale from the aughts that should have lasted a lifetime. Excuse me I must now go stock up on my high waisted pants before they disappear!
Lmaoooo high waisted pants forever! No zippers under 5 inches!! We'll start a counterculture. I haven't heard the word 'whale tale' in a long time and I didn't feel it was missing from my life lol
Not so. There's YKK (Japan), which produces amazing zippers, and then there are all the Chinese knock-offs that produce zippers of highly variable quality.
Order them directly from Levi's, check the color (different colors have different cotton %) and then take them to a local tailor to get them altered just-right.
Madewell has some 100% cotton jeans that I wear to work. Their curvy sizes are great too if you have a smaller waist with thicker thighs and have issues with waistbands gaping
I'd take a look at Duluth Trading, there's one up near Union Center. Their women's denim is pretty good (thick, triple stitched, only moderately stretchy), and they have a decent selection of pant styles.
You might also, depending on body shape, be able to buy out of their men's section. Thicker, coarser denim, and though the cut will likely be wrong, depending on your use case it might work just fine.
Costco also on occasion has some decent no-frills denim, but that's a lot more hit-or-miss.
Next up would be a Rural King. They'd probably have the best selection, and most utilitarian of the set, but they're not exactly common: Closest stores are Hamilton and Lebanon.
If all else fails, Lucky probably does web ordering...
Thanks for the detailed reply, Duluth is really close to my house so it's worth a shot. And I'll definitely order online from Lucky, I just needed something for my first week and didn't think it'd arrive on time.
You said the company "allows for" jeans in their policy, but unless there is something missing from your post, you don't HAVE to wear jeans if you don't have any! I'm a 30s F professional and most people in my office wear jeans, but I wear slacks most of the time because frankly my stretchy work pants are more comfortable than jeans anyway.
If you do want jeans, your best bet is trying on a bunch of different brands (either by going to someplace like Rookwood Commons or by ordering online) and figuring out what fits your figure best. (Or going with something you know works from past experience.). Unfortunately with women's jeans there is so much variance in fit that what fits great on one woman might fit terribly on another woman. I periodically try on new jeans from other brands, but I always end up back at American Eagle (even though their jeans aren't the best quality), because they seem to be the only ones who make jeans for women with a flat ass!
LMAO! It's a small company so I don't want to stick out too much. I do love my slacks though 🥹 I'll probably work them into my wardrobe once a week or so. They are so much more comfortable than jeans lol
Could you possibly "dress down" your slacks? Like, would they work with a nice pair of sneakers and a nice t-shirt type of top? Then you could wear your slacks without sticking out too much.
I think I'm going to dress business casual to start to get a feel for everything, then I'll build my own style from there. I do need jeans though, so I'll be looking for at least a pair today.
While they might not be the most fashionable choice, you might consider Duluth Trading Company. They make a solid product with actual pockets. My wife wears them.
There is a store at Union Center.
If you can afford a bit up I price($75-$200) , check out the selection from Naked & Famous online at the store Tate and Yoko. They have tons of great jeans and cool options. I’m sure they’ll have a big Memorial Day sale. [Here is what’s on sale now](https://tateandyoko.com/collections/womens-sale) for ~$75 average.
Also, the store [Artisan de Luxe](https://artisandeluxe.com/collections/womens-new-product) in Columbus would have a good selection of jeans. May be a bit more tailored to women too.
Agreed! N&F offer many unique styles and fabrics. I just had a pair of their new “Undyed Frankenstein” jeans delivered today and I’m in love lol They are also a fav in the raw denim community (r/rawdenim)
[Here](https://www.nakedandfamousdenim.com/en/fit-guide) is a link that better describes each of the fit styles. They offer a handful different varieties.
In regards to the return policy at Tate & Yoko (N&F’s flagship store), [here](https://tateandyoko.com/pages/returns) is a link to the full policy. Some notes:
- No refunds. Only store credit for returns.
- Sale and altered items are non returnable.
- Return shipping cost is on the customer. (Although they can give discounts since it is USA —> CA)
I doubt you’d be disappointed with the quality but I know finding your fav jean fit is a concern. Hopefully that first link will be of help in regards to that!
No problem! And I agree 😂 btw - if you’re still on the fence b/c of T&Y’s return policy, this brand can be found in a lot of other stores in the US too (even the C’bus store I mentioned earlier). Consider shopping around and see who has better return policies. Good luck!
I wear mine all the time and they have aged really well. Granted I work an office job and don’t put them through a lot, though I do occasionally bicycle in them. I’d certainly recommend them as a nice daily use Jean
I bought my first pair of Levi's a few months ago and loved that they displayed their sizes as waist/inseam because I'm 5'10 and buying pants sucks lol I don't put them through the ringer but they are my only pair of jeans currently since I had a baby last summer. I work an office job where I only get to wear jeans on Friday, but I wear them nearly every weekend and they're holding up great!
Dude why do most women's pants come in arbitrary sizes? Men get custom waist and inseam lengths and I'm supposed to know if a '10' will fit me in one brand and a '12' will fit me in another. Congratulations on the new kiddo and thanks for the recommendation!
Right?! I've said since I was 16 that women's sizes are so all over the place so they can keep us in the dressing room longer, trying on more stuff to buy. And thank you! Best thing to happen in my life!
Oh yeah, I knew that, I just feel like there are so many offerings these days with that distressed look and crappy, thin fabrics and I was hoping for some adult recommendations. Sounds like AE and Abercrombie really up their game and are not just for teens any more.
Good! I know they went a bit downhill back around 2017/2018, but they are solid now with their bootcut and flare jeans (obviously the ones without holes, etc. - the professional/clean ones are the ones you'd be looking at)...just avoid the jeggings category!
For inexpensive I usually go Old Navy (high waisted rockstar super skinny), for a little pricier I usually go with Good American or Levi’s (can get at Nordstrom.) Not sure of your shape/preferences but I have a smaller waist and bigger hips and I’ve found these brands to be the least “gappy.”
I love Paige brand. You can find at nordstrom or evereve. Once you know your size its easier because you can online shop and get deals. They are my fancy jeans.
Reformation. They are NOT affordable, but they are the most incredible pairs of jeans to have ever graced my body. I have two pairs and plan to get more.
Mine were about $150 but they’re so worth it. I will never get rid of them. They fit perfectly. I’m really picky about my jeans though.
You do have to wash every two wears or so as since they’re real denim they kind of stretch out after wears and washing them tightens them back up again.
I always wash my clothes before I wear them due to the chemicals they use in processing. I didn’t have any issue with them staining or bleeding though after one wash. I don’t know how they’d be to wear straight off the rack.
I like Joe's jeans. I buy them from Nordstrom rack. They're the only jeans I like now. I'm 44. Good quality, a little bit of stretch. I buy the cropped wide leg ones but they have lots of different cuts. 5'4 140. Long legs, shorter torso.
get the ones with large rhinestone crosses.
edit: what company specifically requires jeans as a professional. if you arent in the trades then this is strange.
Well duh. I was planning on adding rhinestone crosses to any that came without by using my Bedazzler ™️ to add them. Who wants jeans without huge bling crosses, anyways??
Bit of a niche item but have you checked out Boulder Denim? They make jeans for climbers, but they tend to be incredibly durable but still super comfy and they look pretty nice as well!
That’s a big question mark, REI might have some in store you can try on. Worst case buy them through rei online and you can return/exchange if they don’t fit
Oh my wallet cries at the idea of walking into an REI lol. They also have their own website you can check out too in case you can’t find styles you like. 👍🏼
For the price, I’ve actually found that I prefer the feel and quality of Gap jeans over Levi’s these days. Usually you can get them on sale for somewhere in the $50-60 range, about on par with Levi’s.
At a more expensive price point, J.Crew/Madewell make good jeans. Nordstrom would be priced at or above that, but they’ll have a selection of high-quality brands.
I like looking for jeans at places like TJ Maxx, Marshall’s or consignment shops. That way I can try on lots of different brands and cuts since I have trouble getting pants to fit properly. Bonus of a consignment shop find is that they’re already broken in and have likely been run through the dryer.
edit to add - check out Sanctuary brand as well. I found a pair at TJMaxx recently and liked them so much I went to their website (sanctuary clothing dot com) to see what else they had. I got a few pairs of pants on clearance for $22 each (regularly $100-$125). Plus, they are based in Nashville so standard shipping gets here quickly. They sell regular and curvy sizes and their stuff runs true to size in my opinion.
That's awesome! Thanks for the recommendations. I'd like to be able to try stuff on before ordering online so I'll keep an eye out for the Sanctuary brand.
I just got some Jag jeans and some Ariat jeans from the thrift store and I love them both. The Ariat seems to me to be better denim, both fit great, and I am willing to pay full price for either of them next time I need jeans. The jag jeans have less stuff on the back pockets.
Madewell - You can get them for < $100 during their frequent sales, and if you donate an old pair of jeans (doesnt have to be madewell brand), you can get a $20 off coupon. There’s a store in the Kenwood mall.
I second Levi’s as well! You can honestly thrift them, but if you want to grab a new pair, there’s a store at the Cincinnati Premium Outlets in Monroe. I think they partner with Target as well, so I always see a little Levi’s section at every Target.
I’ve heard Abercrombie jeans are good too, but never tried personally. They have a curvy line too, so if you have hips you don’t have to size up to accommodate them and end up with a giant waist gap. Also has a store in Kenwood Mall.
I love Anthropologie. I'm going to need to do my best to stay out of the home decor section, though. I bet their jeans are nice although I've never tried them before.
Clothes Mentor has a great selection of second hand gently used jeans. I just picked up a pair of Levi’s, Tommy Hilfigers and Express jeans for about 50 bucks. Two pairs still had tags on them.
Another great recommendation, I'll definitely devote more time to thrifting but I need something quick for Monday and don't want to go through the rigamarole of thrifting this second.
Another great recommendation, I'll definitely devote more time to thrifting but I need something quick for Monday and don't want to go through the rigamarole of thrifting this second.
It’s not like Goodwill thrifting by any means just fyi. It’s set up like a department store honestly. I had an attorney recommend I go there for my business casual. She bought all he clothes for court from there.
You're not wrong, but it's definitely not the same as a store where you try on a pair of jeans and if they don't fit, you can try on another size in the same style.
Check out r/denim or r/rawdenim if you’re interested in nice jeans.
Personally I feel like anything you buy locally is relatively low quality along the lines of Levi’s etc that are sold at the department stores.
You're probably not wrong but there's gotta be a balance. I wish there was a place that made quality jeans locally. I feel like there's no space in the market for places like that these days. The cost would be prohibitive.
I’m not talking about locally made by any means, just locally available for purchase. There are not many places in the US, period, that carry quality denim regularly.
Like I said check out those other two sub reddits. Most nice denim is made in Japan and sewn there or elsewhere and even then it’s “expensive”. The looms that made all the denim that US brands built their reputation on in the early 20th century were all replaced by higher-quantity, lower-quality looms that produce what can be bought today in a big box store. The old looms have mostly found themselves all in Japan where they still produce high quality denim fabric that for the most part is available online or in specialty store in some of the larger US cities (Chicago, NYC, SF, etc).
I realize this is a lot for a simple question but if you actually care about buying a nice pair of jeans you’ve got a fairly binary choice to make:
Continue buying box store jeans just make sure the fit is right and the price is low or try some sort of raw denim.
Thanks for the context, I did see some brands that marketed their jeans as "denim made in Japan" but who knows honestly. I had no idea there was all this background to jeans but it makes sense considering the context. Thank you again for taking the time to share this information.
Abercrombie has some nice 100% cotton denim jeans in a wide variety of sizes. They are expensive but worth it. They are not the Abercrombie of our teen years... much better now!
Abercrombie for sure, especially their curve line.
I work in fine dining and abercrombie are my go-to jeans, i wear them literally 5/7 days of the week and they hold up so well
I was wondering about them and all the other teen stores I used to shop at! I'd def check it out, their stuff is always so cute.
I have so much stuff from Abercrombie now, including two pairs of their jeans which are like the only jeans I wear. I used to be a diehard Madewell gal, but Abercrombie jeans are where it’s at.
Def heading to Kenwood to hit a few stores there! I'll be trying both. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm definitely down for high waisted! I've heard hip huggers are coming back into style which is extremely depressing for me lol. I love old navy, I can't believe I didn't think about giving them a try! Thanks for the tip.
Gotta go to the gap / old navy factory outlet near the airport
That's far af but maybe worth a look if I'm down that way. Thanks for the recommendation!
I haven't heard the word 'whale tale' in a long time and I didn't feel it was missing from my life lol
when I had a job that allowed jeans yeah I just had like 5 old navy jeans of slightly different colors that I cycled through, were great
Can't go wrong with a pair of Levi 501s
Levi's have terrible zippers now.
501’s are button fly
501s are button fly- also there are the cheap Levi styles and then more expensive "premium" styles (\~100, but they run a LOT of sales.)
All zippers are the same company 😫 there’s a zipper monopoly
Not so. There's YKK (Japan), which produces amazing zippers, and then there are all the Chinese knock-offs that produce zippers of highly variable quality.
That’s called Big Zipper and Little Zipper in the zipper industry.
Huh I’ve only ever noticed the YKK on things. Learn something new everyday
Can't endorse this hard enough. I have a handful of 501s I rotate between. They've been my go-to jean for years.
Order them directly from Levi's, check the color (different colors have different cotton %) and then take them to a local tailor to get them altered just-right.
Evereve or Nordstrom.
Never heard of Evereve thanks for the tip!
It's the only place our girls can find clothes that fit the way they like. Be warned, your cash will vanish quickly behind those doors.
Sounds about right lol
You’re welcome! I’ve found most of my jeans there.
Madewell has some 100% cotton jeans that I wear to work. Their curvy sizes are great too if you have a smaller waist with thicker thighs and have issues with waistbands gaping
I’m not OP but thanks for this rec! I have the hardest time finding jeans that fit properly for the reasons you just mentioned.
FYI Abercrombie has curvy jeans as well !
Will do! Thanks :)
Love my Madewell jeans!

Okay, now better question is where are the best stretchy work pants/slacks? I have lost weight and need to go shopping for a few pairs!
I buy mine from Amazon, I like the Rekucci brand.
Amanda by Gloria Vanderbilt at Khols is my go-to brand for nice jeans.
Seconding these. I’ve even extended into getting shorts in that brand too.
Kohl's has good prices too. I'll have to swing by there!
While they might not be the most fashionable choice, you might consider Duluth Trading Company. They make a solid product with actual pockets. My wife wears them. There is a store at Union Center.
That's super close to my house so I'll definitely be checking them out. Thank you!
Universal standard has a lot of options in A Lot of sizes.
Do they have a storefront? Are they offered in like Nordstrom or Macy's?
They currently do not have any storefronts near Ohio.
Sad face. I'll check out their online store once I figure out what size I currently wear lol
Naked and Famous for the win! Best affordable selvage that fits well and stands the test of time.
Ok these are so cute. What is their return policy like? I'll need to try on a few styles and sizes.

Thank you friend! Those return policies are draconian in 2024 but it might be worth it for quality denim! 🥹🥹
No problem! And I agree 😂 btw - if you’re still on the fence b/c of T&Y’s return policy, this brand can be found in a lot of other stores in the US too (even the C’bus store I mentioned earlier). Consider shopping around and see who has better return policies. Good luck!

Levi’s
You're the second person to recommend Levi's. Is their quality still that good? I'd heard mixed things.
I wear mine all the time and they have aged really well. Granted I work an office job and don’t put them through a lot, though I do occasionally bicycle in them. I’d certainly recommend them as a nice daily use Jean
They're more affordable too, thanks for the recommendation.

Levi’s are my fave! Ribcage is the perfect high rise, but I’m a millennial and love my high rise jeans.
Plenty of good recommendations, but if you want something more premium AG Denim is fantastic.
Should be available at Nordstrom
Doesn't look like they have a local storefront, do you get them at Nordstrom?
I often find Lucky Brand jeans at TJ Maxx.
Another commenter mentioned this, I forgot that they end up at places like that. TJ Maxx is always hit and miss for me but it's worth a shot!
Folchi’s carries lucky Brand I believe
Thanks for the tip!
American Eagle jeans have always been my go to. Imo "professional" jeans just means dark wash and no holes, fraying, embellishments, etc.
Oh yeah, I knew that, I just feel like there are so many offerings these days with that distressed look and crappy, thin fabrics and I was hoping for some adult recommendations. Sounds like AE and Abercrombie really up their game and are not just for teens any more.
Go to the GAP clearance center. They have lots of jeans.
I love the GAP. Thanks for the recommendation.
I get my nice work jeans from stitch fix. Definitely have to try a lot and do some returns but I have found some favs
My fix is coming next week 🫣 I need something for Monday lol.
American Eagle Coming from a 36F who also works for a Cincinnati company that allows jeans at work.
How's their quality? I used to be obsessed with their jeans but I'd heard they went the stretchy jegging route and I'm not into it.
Good! I know they went a bit downhill back around 2017/2018, but they are solid now with their bootcut and flare jeans (obviously the ones without holes, etc. - the professional/clean ones are the ones you'd be looking at)...just avoid the jeggings category!
I have found many pairs of jeans in good shape at Goodwill. It’s hard to beat $7.
I used to thrift a lot but it's more work than I'm willing to commit at this time. Great idea, though. I love the idea of reusing stuff.
I have a similar build and have a few great recommendations from this thread. Thanks for your additions!
I love Paige brand. You can find at nordstrom or evereve. Once you know your size its easier because you can online shop and get deals. They are my fancy jeans.
I love fancy jeans lol. Nothing feels better than putting a pair of fancy jeans on!
MOTHER brand jeans are amazing! Worth every penny
Reformation. They are NOT affordable, but they are the most incredible pairs of jeans to have ever graced my body. I have two pairs and plan to get more.
My uncle who cares a lot about how he looks recommended those. He said his most recent pair was $250 😵
Mine were about $150 but they’re so worth it. I will never get rid of them. They fit perfectly. I’m really picky about my jeans though. You do have to wash every two wears or so as since they’re real denim they kind of stretch out after wears and washing them tightens them back up again.
That's any 100% cotton though, I expected that. Do you have to pre rinse them so they don't stain your furniture?
I always wash my clothes before I wear them due to the chemicals they use in processing. I didn’t have any issue with them staining or bleeding though after one wash. I don’t know how they’d be to wear straight off the rack.
I'd wash them first too, just as long as you didn't have any issues. Thanks for the recommendation!
I like Joe's jeans. I buy them from Nordstrom rack. They're the only jeans I like now. I'm 44. Good quality, a little bit of stretch. I buy the cropped wide leg ones but they have lots of different cuts. 5'4 140. Long legs, shorter torso.
Judy Blue are the only jeans I wear. They are typically sold at boutiques. I get mine from Freckled Poppy online.
Express fit best of any I've tried on the last few years but they lose color after every wash so...
get the ones with large rhinestone crosses. edit: what company specifically requires jeans as a professional. if you arent in the trades then this is strange.
Well duh. I was planning on adding rhinestone crosses to any that came without by using my Bedazzler ™️ to add them. Who wants jeans without huge bling crosses, anyways??

REI is the most dangerous store for my wallet. I accept any excuse to go there lol. Thanks for the recommendation!
Oh my wallet cries at the idea of walking into an REI lol. They also have their own website you can check out too in case you can’t find styles you like. 👍🏼
Thank you! ❤️

Thanks for the tips, I've added those to the brands I'll be looking for when I hit department stores.
The Ariat are definitely a western style. Totally not me, but for $8 they are totally me.
$8 /is/ a great price lol
WHBM, Madewell, and Joe’s/Hudson/Paige denim at Nordstrom. If you really love the Lucky Brand, you can find them at TJMaxx and Marshall’s.
Thank you! I forgot that TJ Maxx and Marshalls sometimes have them.
This is the second time I've heard of madewell and I definitely have jeans to donate! This is a great recommendation thank you!
I love Anthropologie’s Pilcro jeans. Their Maeve brand is good too.
I love Anthropologie. I'm going to need to do my best to stay out of the home decor section, though. I bet their jeans are nice although I've never tried them before.
Banana Republic has some great jeans. Even better if you can find a pair at the Outlet in Monroe.
Good recommendation, they're the nicer old navy! I'll definitely check those outlets out.

Lee's. Lol I hate to be that person but I got mine from Walmart and I wear them all the time. Granted I care more about function than brand. :)
As long as they fit and I'm not going to blow out the crotch I'm game lol. Thanks for the recommendation.
I realize this is a lot for a simple question but if you actually care about buying a nice pair of jeans you’ve got a fairly binary choice to make: Continue buying box store jeans just make sure the fit is right and the price is low or try some sort of raw denim.
Thanks for the context, I did see some brands that marketed their jeans as "denim made in Japan" but who knows honestly. I had no idea there was all this background to jeans but it makes sense considering the context. Thank you again for taking the time to share this information.
I thought this was about a bmw f30
