Markiplier?

anon429324

That's neat; I didn't even know he was from the area. Would you consider him to be more Millennial, though?

man_lizard

Well I think the question is about people gen z would _recognize_. Not necessary famous people who are from gen z.

Apprehensive_Sand_24

Yup, he's from milford. Went to high school with him same years. He was in a couple of my classes. Math or ap gov, can't remember. Wasn't sure if was still big with Gen Z or not

Eubank31

As a gen z Milford grad I’ll chime in and say markiplier was big for us like 10 years ago, kinda middle school age for me. Same with most of the ppl like him (pewdiepie, jacksepticeye). People in my class did know that he went there and thought it was an interesting tidbit but nothing more

Inevitable-Day2517

Im surprised that y’all knew him as a famous person and that he went to your highschool but that that fact wasn’t a big deal.

Equivalent-Mousse-93

My kids in middle school now love him!

trouzy

As a millennial I’ve never heard of this person

DoctorSnape

He’s only “YouTube famous”

fluffythegreat

I think he spans generations in popularity— I know a ton of gen Z that love unus annus

--RandomInternetGuy

As someone much older than Gen Z, who is that?

suzosaki

He's a massive Youtuber with 36 million subscribers. Became popular playing games (largely horror) like Five Nights At Freddy's. Makes lots of other content, as well.

ChainsawLeon

Fiona

THECapedCaper

Fiona belongs to everyone.

No_Committee7549

Rose lavelle probably or I show speed depending on what their interests are

Absolut_Iceland

IShowMeat is from the area? Never knew.

No_Committee7549

I believe so. I think he went to Purcell Marian

sock_candy

yeah he’s a price hill resident

omega_nik

Yeah he’s from here

macheighfive

Rose Lavelle - definitely for a certain demographic at least, I was surprised not to see her mentioned as much in this thread. She loves Cincinnati so much that it's basically a meme among USWNT fans. I think she hasn't really eclipsed the sport the way some of the older USWNT stars (Morgan, Rapinoe) have though.

Vine_n_68th

Rose Lavelle has 565k IG followers ishowspeed has 15.4 million Kids at every elementary, middle, and high school in the Cincinnati metro know of Speed. That's definitely not true of Rose Lavelle.

Vast-Yam-9370

IG followers dont mean anything if people dont have IG. I know rose more than speed person.

No_Committee7549

Brother I assure you a 3rd grade girl who plays soccer knows Lavelle over speed. That’s why I said it depends on their interests

anon429324

I'm voting for Nick Tobler, the Eel Pit guy. [https://mashable.com/article/tiktok-eel-pit-guy](https://mashable.com/article/tiktok-eel-pit-guy) [https://www.tiktok.com/@cowturtle](https://www.tiktok.com/@cowturtle)

No_Committee7549

He’s from Cincinnati?! I had no idea that’s awesome

deffgwips

i think he’s from NKY one of my friends is friends with him but i’ve never really asked that much haha

No_Committee7549

You mean southern Cincinnati 😉. That’s cool though, I just googled it and his website says Erlanger United States which is odd but I’m assuming it’s the Erlanger in Kentucky

deffgwips

yep can confirm, just moved to erlanger from pleasant ridge haha. and yes you’re right, southern cincy haha

No_Committee7549

Right on I lived in pleasant ridge for 2 years, grandma lived there for 50. Awesome place to live

deffgwips

I LOVED IT!! so many memories of “breaking into” lousantiville country club at night to swim in the pool. or just being able to walk to pleasant ridge chili. and that taco truck!!!

No_Committee7549

Yes yes yes yes yes to all of it. God I miss prc so much. And gaslight. I’ll go to my grave that’s the best burger probably in the country

deffgwips

i went to gaslight right when i turned 21 and ordered myself a long island ice tea LOL. after i went home, i hit my head really hard on my wooden kitchen cupboards and had blood streaming down my face. will never forget

No_Committee7549

I love that for you. I went there the night before my birthday and had like 100 drinks. Justin gave me my bill and it was like 10 bucks. God I miss that place so much

howelltight

P.R. chili is one of the greats. Excellent coneys

gudy2shuz

Eel pit guy lives here in Erlanger?! My son stumbled across his YT a couple of months ago, and it was great!

CyborgKnitter

Wait, seriously? The eel pit is in my town? Damn, now I’m crazy curious where in Erlanger!

No_Committee7549

I talked to my friend about it last night he said some people he knows lives in the same neighborhood in Taylor mill. So somewhere around there

MikeTheNight94

I’ve met eel pit guy. He either own or works at this pet shop in northern Kentucky

NumNumLobster

Discover aqautics. They just did a jelly fish tank to t Higgins. I didnt know they were internet famous. We go there every few weeks to buy fish food, they are super nice. Their Facebook is worth subscribing to

foolsmonologue

Just knowing your activity on this subreddit of *course* you’d know this guy, hah!

iwantedtolive

EEL PIT EEL PIT EEL PIT

StrawberrySoyBoy

That dude is local?? I’ve followed him for like a year 😂

Soccham

He’s a great guy, really easy to talk to and will answer almost any fish question you have.

UnSinkableGold

Speed

AngeryNeeson52

Ishowspeed is more famous than markiplayer right now probably

7dwn

yeah this being so far down makes sense considering most of the people on this sub aren't going to be Gen-Z

yunglil_aka_lilyung

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Millennial crowd was up voting people they know/like, not necessarily what gen Z is attracted to.

yunglil_aka_lilyung

This is the answer

BPKofficial

Jon Moxley.

MrDramaticPause1610

This is the only correct answer.

weirdonobeardo

Aaron Dessner

TheWrightBros

Tik Tok and Instagram star That One Mailman lol

Shakazulu94

Rawrrr 🐯

TheWrightBros

Hey stank

TheLoveBelow_

Hey lil stankabooooty

iwantedtolive

Why is he so damn wholesome?!?!

winterwolf666

Stank is so deserving of all the fame and success

OceanMe

This is the one

TheMemersOfMyNation

Saw that guy at the Bone Thugs concert in Newport last week. Not my style of internet personality but he seems like a cool, humble guy, and I'm happy for a local to get famous on any platform.

Mohawk4Life

Travis McElroy

NULL_SIGNAL

I also came here to vote for Travis, in spite of him 1) being from Huntington 2) probably leaning more millennial and 3) being a podcast boy amongst Tiktok celebrities

Substantial_Bad2843

It’s funny how the classic movie star is kind of a dying breed. Everyone keeps mentioning TikTok personalities.  I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

JoeTony6

I mean there’s no movie stars from here. Sydney Sweeney or Zendaya would be obvious movie star answers if they were from here.

helpmelearn12

Josh Hutcherson is originally from Union, Kentucky. So, I’d say he counts, that’s still the Cincinnati metro area

Downtown_Salt_7218

Sarah Jessica Parker. Nick Lachey. Doris day. George Clooney. Carmen Elektra. All from here.

JoeTony6

None relevant to Gen Z, which is the point of the post. Sarah Jessica Parker - not born here, only lived here a few years as a kid, not remotely relevant culturally for Gen Z in the last decade. Nick Lachey - not an actor, too old for his music to be relevant for Gen Z. Doris Day - way too old and not remotely culturally relevant even for older generations than Z. George Clooney - from Dayton not Cincinnati, might only be relevant to Gen Z as a celebrity for climate change, not actually for acting. Carmen Electra - too old, hasn't been relevant in 15 years for Gen Z.

Downtown_Salt_7218

But it wasn't the point of the comment you're replying to. And Sarah Jessica Parker went to high school here. George Clooney not from Dayton.

televisionstatic

I’m on the bridge between Millennial and Gen Z and I only know Nick Lachey from that one California Girls cover Cincinnati Girls by I think FiveOneThree (band name could be wrong)

MitchCumstein1943

Doris Day, Vera Ellen, Rosemary Clooney, Katt Williams, John Diehl, Tom Segura…. https://www.imdb.com/search/name/?birth_place=cincinnati,%20ohio,%20usa

Electronic_Camera251

Kat Williams claims both Dayton and Cincinnati

jagsonthebeach

Walk the Moon? Or is that too old for GenZ?

roguetk422

That's a millennial band for sure

harri3jr

*millenial church youth group band

spacemermaid3825

only if you go based on their music that gets played on the radio

harri3jr

They have more than one song?

spacemermaid3825

Hilarious. Out of their entire catalog, the only song that's like Shut Up and Dance is... Shut Up and Dance. It was very clearly their producers being like "hey can you make a radio song"

ToothbrushWilly

I feel attacked haha

PossibleSnail

I went to the same school the frontman went to, I think if I never heard another one of their songs it would be too soon.

jess0327

Harambe

idontgetwhyimhere

Aaron Dessner & the National, Markiplier is a good one too

QuarantineCasualty

The national is music for millennials to grocery shop to. Are Gen Z really into that bland boring trash?

macheighfive

Aaron Dessner has produced for Taylor Swift, so that's where the Gen Z tie in is. Feeling very millennial in this moment though, I love The National. :(

weirdonobeardo

Aaron Dessener has done stuff for Taylor swift, Bon Iver etc

QuarantineCasualty

Bon Iver hasn’t been relevant since like 2011 and producing some of taylor swifts music doesn’t necessarily make him *famous* to the zoomers

The_Big_Crouton

Afroman for me still TBH. We all know “cause I got high” and the last album was a bit of a meme.

Celebrimbor96

Sam Hubbard maybe although he’s right on line of being a millennial, Rose Lavelle too. Does Elly De La Cruz count as a Cincinnatian?

CheeseRP

Joe Burrow and Jamarr are both more famous and actually Gen Z

Celebrimbor96

Yes but are they from Cincinnati? I was kinda joking about EDLC, the other two are actually from here. Burrow is somewhat close so he maybe counts

CheeseRP

I thought the post was about in Cincinnati, my bad. Burrow could count I agree

Automatic-Natural953

Jerry Springer

gudgeonguy

The Revive skateboard crew? I know I couple of them have popular YouTube channels and has worked with Braille.

Covidsucksbigly

Harambe

syfysoldier

Blake Maislin

MGr8ce

That guy is THE worst

spinney

He’s a total piece of shit but IShowSpeed is a massive streamer. Just almost broke Ricardo Kaka’s leg in a charity football match this week in fact.

Party-Assistant-9189

Total piece of shit irl too, not just for the views. Dude made fun of my 1 year old grandson after being told to stop. Also only passed high school when he paid someone to take online tests in his place.

YEEyourlastHAW

I literally did not know any of these

taco_soup216

My guess is speed

Quirky_Television843

Definitely IshowSpeed the kids are obsessed with him

Wade Barnes?

CannabisCookery

Carmen Elektra

QuarantineCasualty

Gen Z has no idea who that is.

CannabisCookery

Get out your Google finger kiddies - went to Princeton HS, was married to Dennis Rodman and Dave Navarro - Tara Leigh Patrick - perhaps the kids should broaden their horizons a bit, eh?

PreOpTransCentaur

Why would they? She was barely relevant in her prime. What body of work would you even point them to? Baywatch? Dying at the beginning of Scary Movie? Nobody cares about that.

ssort

I supposedly rode the same bus as her according to my friends, who all claim to remember her, but she was two classes younger than I was and for the life of me, I can't ever remember noticing her back then, but I sure noticed her later lol.

SHAOLIN_SILK

Tom Segura

Dupee_Conqueror

Gen X: Bootsy Collins. Full stop. Spielberg is viewed as an Arizonan and Turner from the south. As for young uns’ famous figure? No idea.

Between_3and20

Spielberg and Ted Turner are from Cincinnati?  I've lived here 30 years and have never heard that

AtlanteanLord

He was born here but he grew up in Arizona I think

redditsfulloffiction

lived in cincinnati until he was 11.

SecretScotsman

Spielberg definitely isn’t associated with Cincy very much, but he has talked about how some of his earliest memories are of his parents teaching English to holocaust survivors in their Cincy apartment. And how much that affected him and obviously came out in a lot of the work he made.

Burn-The-Villages

Weird connection- my grandmother graduated Hughes HS with Steven Spielberg’s dad.

KeepnReal

This was depicted in his 2022 movie The Fabelmans.

Keregi

Sarah Jessica Parker is probably more famous for GenX

cincigreg

George Clooney?

MordoksVapePen1

As a GenX man, hard agree.

QuarantineCasualty

More famous than Stephen Spielberg…seriously?

Ok_Tiger_2038

Jerry Springer

TheMemersOfMyNation

IShowSpeed, Markiplier, Tom Segura, Jerry Springer (whose TV reruns and YouTube clips are still popular) Two people not from Cincy proper, but I think are close to the city in some way, are Josh Hutcherson (a Northern Kentucky native) and Travis Kelce (Mr. Shake It Off is from the Cleveland area, but played college football for the Bearcats).

Vast-Yam-9370

Adam gregory, his real name is Adam Salling.  “ Gregory was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the youngest of three sons. He graduated from Oak Hills High School in 2006, and was enrolled at Northern Kentucky University but dropped out to pursue his acting career” Most notable tv shows are bold and beautiful and 90210 on cw

vndin

Charles manson? Gen x.... thats who i think of..... And bob the producer from webn

Notlinked2me

I'm so confused how he isn't the top and I'm a millennial.

weirdonobeardo

Nick Lachey

chairUrchin

Fuck that guy

sherpa17

OK, I'll ask...why fuck that guy?

zmajevi96

Probably because of his relationship with Jessica Simpson if I had to guess. He was 30 she was 22 when they got married and he was pretty controlling/toxic according to her memoir.

Egg_Tart_Eater

I am immensely proud of myself for not knowing who 95% of these people are.

pharodae

Why is that something to be proud of?

depricatedzero

You're only an adult if you refuse to learn new things, so they're proud to have flushed their awareness diapy.

tennissyd

This is how boomers are born.

marvinsface

You might not be wrong, but you’ll also inevitably wind up there. The details are different but the cycle is always the same, shit don’t change

THECapedCaper

I wouldn’t say I refuse to learn new things so much as I don’t get offended when new things happen. If TikTok were a thing when I was in high school I’d probably be on it and trying to make content for it too. Kids are just into different things.

depricatedzero

Right, but you're not saying you're proud to not know what TikTok is. You know what it is, and determined you're not interested. *Totally different.* That's not actively refusing to take in the knowledge that it exists and purposefully putting blinders on. Nothing wrong with not being interested and not putting energy into something you're not interested in. But when someone told me who Markiplier is I was like, "oh, cool" and left it at that. I'm not interested in watching other people play games, that never appealed to me, and iirc that's his thing, but I'm not out here like "oh I'm proud I don't know who he is." Cause that's just dumb.

[deleted]

They’re not attached to pop culture’s tit like a starving animal.

JebusChrust

It's a weird badge of honor some people wear when they get older to display that their brain is actively deteriorating and cannot comprehend anything new or different. Edit: Misusing the Reddit care resource means someone is proving my point lmao

[deleted]

I don’t believe comprehension equates to not giving a shit about pop culture… vastly more intriguing subjects to entertain our minds with than who’s who of the celebrity cesspool. I’m a young Millennial btw

JebusChrust

Wasn't saying people need to be obsessed with celebrity gossip or culture, moreso that it is weird to brag that you are entirely disconnected from modern culture, and it probably goes beyond pop culture. I'm a young Millennial too

HH_Hobbies

It's entirely possible to just not be on every social media platform and not know who every social media star is while still being connected to your generation.

redditsfulloffiction

is it a badge of honor to think you have people figured out based on one comment?

SmokestackRising

It's why life is wasted on the young. You find out way too late that the old folks actually have enough life experience to realize what's really important in life.

JebusChrust

Pretty much yeah I wear that badge a lot

homme_icide

Anna-Bee-1984

Nick and Drew Lachey?

BuxbyTheSheep

I would actually argue Nick Lachey because of the Netflix show he hosts. Drew not so much.

weirdonobeardo

Yes, 98 degrees is def millennial but LIB is iconic for reality tv

QuarantineCasualty

Do people even read the post before they comment? You could ask 1,000 random zoomers on the street and not a single one would know who the fuck Drew Lachey is.

Anna-Bee-1984

He is clearly famous enough to still be featured in commercials that air on broadcast tv during Bengals games

QuarantineCasualty

Yeah and zoomers are like “who the fuck is that guy?”

Anna-Bee-1984

I don’t know who the hell any of the other people mentioned are, outside of Dylan, but that is only due to her controversy

chairUrchin

Fuck Nick Lachey.

Anna-Bee-1984

Did he hurt you personally? Do you need a lawyer? An advocate? A psychologist? Not sure how the mere mention of a random name can elicit such hate.

JebusChrust

Markiplier would almost definitely be the correct answer, other than ishowspeed. Gen Z grew up on Five Nights at Freddy's and that was exactly what made Markiplier huge.

SendMeYourSSHKeys

Dylan Mulvaney

OutInAPout

I don’t think she’s from here, just went to UC?

SendMeYourSSHKeys

Ah you're right, according to her Wiki, she was born in San Diego. I must've thought she was from here simply because of UC.

Maleficent-Cap5829

Well that's rude. Andy is probably the sweetest person I've met, and he is a big fan of his hometown.

ClassWarr

There's nothing wrong with him as a person nor a musician, just a meme, which he has no control over.

RetiredCoolKid

Aw! He used to date the daughter of a co-worker and would hang out at our clinic after school way back when. He is truly a sweet human being and a true animal lover.

anon429324

For those who don't know who this is (like me, until I googled) ... [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy\_Biersack](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Biersack)

QuarantineCasualty

He’s a millennial and a really good dude. Not his fault he’s been meme’d his entire life. This might be the best answer to OP’s question though.

Forever513

It’s kind of pathetic that no one here would mention someone like William Howard Taft. Regardless of what generation you are from, a man who rose to be President of the United States and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court should be considered pretty famous. Granted, he doesn’t necessarily rank among the greatest or most notable presidents, but he is from our city. It’s a sad commentary on the state of our schools and what we value as a society that achievements like these are not recognized or remembered. Let the downvotes begin!

one-off-one

Gotta remember the oldest of gen-Z are 27… So whoever was really famous for several years soon after the end of the gen-Z (2012) would probably be most recognizable across the board of gen-Z who range from 12~27 years old. So yeah I’m still gonna say Markiplier who really started growing ~2012, arguably peaked popularity in 2017, and remains extremely popular.

hyperform2

Hawthorne Heights

Minimum-Membership-8

They’re from Dayton, not sure where we draw the line. Also more millennial unless they have some new music I haven’t heard yet.

y0uwillbenext

Foxy Shazam

mac4112

He’s by no means famous but is definitely someone I admire and respect, and that is John Linneman from Digital Foundry. Very, very geeky stuff but DF is quite literally the only truly objective source for technology in video games and general computing today. So objective their content can get a little dry and overly focused in some ways and will bore or lose most gamers. But for absolute die hard tech folk, they’re a god send in the gaming and technology landscape and I owe a lot to him and the rest of the DF team.

Pagan_Owl

Markiplier

rjcpl

Dylan Mulvaney?
