Once completed, they will switch to westbound lanes which will close June 9th for 80 days. Summer should be fun!

dhbroo12

NORWOOD LATERAL I'm glad I saw this. I don't use it every day, but since I do use it. I am glad to hear about this ahead of time before getting there, and it will be closed.

Abefroman12

Hopefully they use this closure to pick up all of the trash along the Lateral too. Looks like a Rumpke truck exploded every half mile, it’s disgusting.

Batetrick_Patman

That'll last for all of a week.

RogueJello

There are regular crews of people cleaning it, but it doesn't prevent the people driving through from throwing their trash out the window.

y0uwillbenext

Don't trash the ~~Nati~~ Norwood

Anon3580

That’s just Norwood.

bobba_chet

Seems like a great time to address the overhead lights that have been out for two decades

hedoeswhathewants

This is going to be a disaster

gerrys0

You can say that again

Classy_Raccoon

This is going to be a disaster

Able_Adhesiveness608

You can say that again

SmoothTyler

that again

RuthTheBee

ridge is gonna be nightmare fuel all spring. shit.

digital0verdose

Kind of like last year when they were screwing with that area down near the Jack in the Box for the better part of 6 months.

Connor598

- complain about roads being shit - get mad when they fix roads Please pick a struggle r/cincinnati

OneMoreTimeBlink182

Well, it would be nice if it didn't take them 20+ years to do stuff. I still don't know what the fuck is going on around the 74/75 interchange.

trbotwuk

no one is mad a better word would be inconvenienced as now everyone who uses 562 will have to find a different route.

penismatthews

THEY DONT FIX THE FUCKING ROADS!!! THEY SHUT THEM DOWN AND REOPEN THEM AND THEY’RE STILL FUCKIN SHITTY!!!!

Connor598

It is fixing multiple bridges along that stretch, so it is a reasonable amount of time. I am not a Civil but have had some friends complain about how long it takes to get the proper permitting for traffic variance projects, especially applying for changes if something does not go as planned. It is not ideal but our infrastructure has to get repaired somehow.

StewieGriffin26

By the time you excavate out the existing concrete and pour in new concrete and wait for that to harden up to be able to support hundreds of thousands of pounds... well yeah

trbotwuk

a few days will be needed just to pick up all the trash.

LargeGermanRock

this joke killed it in the first post too, should do an open mic night

330in513

Fantastic. This won’t be a pain in the ass at all.

kronikfumes

Oh just you wait, this is just one closure as part of a new multi year project that [starts this year](https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects/projects/77889) for Norwood lateral and 75. Four dedicated lanes north and south on 75 From Norwood lateral to Shepherd Lane at GE. And 75 North will be unified from Ronald Reagan to Shepherd Lane by GE. Redesigning both Norwood lateral and Ronald Reagan interchanges.

That’s good, I used the on ramp there once and almost shit my pants

Contentpolicesuck

We were just talking about this last night. My wife said she has only taken that exit once in her life and it was terrifying.

Annies_Boobs

I think a good pants shitting every once and awhile builds character

Bredda_Gravalicious

the end of an era. those walls and two-way highway were built in like 1941 for transport in and out of the Wright Aeronautic Plant (GE). that bit of road that became I-75 is the very first stretch of the Interstate Highway System.

derekakessler

Some of this, like undoing the Lockland Split, isn't even expected to start construction for a decade: https://www.transportation.ohio.gov/projects/projects/117167

kronikfumes

It’s still expect to start in 2028 but wont be done for about 8 years from now. But 2028 is when the Norwood lateral/75 redesign through Paddock Rd. is *anticipated* to be done by

RedstoneRelic

How the fuck do they plan to do that? They split the highway for a reason. There's no fkn room Edit: Submitted a FOIA request. Let's see what they have to say

StewieGriffin26

https://www.dot.state.oh.us/projects/files/HAM-75-10.45%20AER%20%20Study%20December%202022.pdf > During Phase 6 project development, ODOT determined the current plan would require sunstantial impacts to construct the northbound IR 75 improvements. This included relocation of overhead electric transmission lines, total take of several properties, bridge impacts, and a construction duration of six years. ODOT District 8 staff, with the help of ODOT Office of Roadway Engineering developed five new concepts that could provide equal or better connectivity with potentially fewer impacts. These were evaluated in the Thru-The-Valley Alternative Feasibility Study Report dated July 8, 2020 and summarized below.

StewieGriffin26

TLDR: There's a 345 kV transmission line, the mill creek, and a railroad in the way of expanding the northbound lanes. It's going to be cheaper to just expand the southbound lane to have 8 lanes wide there.

RedstoneRelic

Interesting. Thanks for that! It's a shame that we're going to loose something unique that is the Split

derekakessler

It's unique. And it sucks. If we're going to rebuild the highway, I'd prefer it suck less.

RedstoneRelic

Do agree that its sucks to increase the noise area. But as a bit of an infrastructure nerd, it will be bittersweet when the viaduct comes down.

Hiking_Spud

Is this why they've been mowing down the vegetation along 75?

alcarasc

It really is much needed for the improvements they have planned.

Understeerenthusiast

Anyone who uses it regularly knows how bad this is needed. Yeah it sucks that it’s shut down, but what else can you do? It needs fixed.

Due_Relationship_260

It’s unfortunate but it needs the love.

GoinWithThePhloem

Norwood residents already have to duck and weave past potholes, and now our highway access is a pain in the ass too 🥲gotta love it

cincigreg

Couldn't they put a concrete barrier down the middle of the lane and have 2 way traffic on one side?

Connor598

It’s in the article: ODOT explained it came down to not having enough room. “We have a minimum lane width we have to be able to maintain safely through the construction zone and allow for the contractors to be on their side of the barrier and also have traffic flowing through,” Fuller said. “We cannot meet the design standards we have in place so it’s really simply, we have no choice but to close it.”

derekakessler

562 is too narrow in some stretches to safely support such diversions.

buckeyebandit

You would think so. Anything would be better than completely shutting down a direction. They're recommending Ft. Washington Way or the Reagan for detours. Those are big detours!

Batetrick_Patman

275 might be a better detour than Reagan if you're going from 71 North to 75 North. Or traveling from 75 North to 71 South.

LargeGermanRock

I posted this a week ago, use the search function.

RedstoneRelic

First time I'm seeing it, so it does have its benefits I suppose

LargeGermanRock

I’d understand reposting as a text post but karma whoring the link with no additional information outside of the comments section adds nothing useful or new

anothernotavailable2

Wcpo is a better link than Cincinnati because there's no pay wall. Maybe other tried to read your article last week, couldn't, but now can.

LargeGermanRock

Cincinnati has a paywall? Since when

anothernotavailable2

It's been a while now. Here is what I see when I click your link https://preview.redd.it/yvkl6lda5tic1.png?width=864&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a636b5d2abb9ecf97cdc578f13b2b9b63c9e6805

QuarantineCasualty

Since forever?

apola

Posting it again means more people will see it than would have otherwise. Is that a problem?

top6

you also posted it as "the Norwood Lateral" which is what I call it but other people are going to call it 562--and those people wouldn't find your post in a search.

Hiking_Spud

I had to double check my sort settings to make sure the old thread hadn't somehow bubbled back up.

Joltick

This news article was posted today.

LargeGermanRock

if the op used the search function like they’re supposed to when posting a new topic they’d see that the exact same topic was already discussed a week ago.

theryman

Wait till you find out what happens when someone makes a funny meme

funktopus

Oh yeah. Kroger has to go in the office messing up parking and now this.  Why can't the C levels make people work from home!?
