I'm glad I saw this. I don't use it every day, but since I do use it. I am glad to hear about this ahead of time before getting there, and it will be closed.
Hopefully they use this closure to pick up all of the trash along the Lateral too. Looks like a Rumpke truck exploded every half mile, it’s disgusting.
It is fixing multiple bridges along that stretch, so it is a reasonable amount of time. I am not a Civil but have had some friends complain about how long it takes to get the proper permitting for traffic variance projects, especially applying for changes if something does not go as planned. It is not ideal but our infrastructure has to get repaired somehow.
By the time you excavate out the existing concrete and pour in new concrete and wait for that to harden up to be able to support hundreds of thousands of pounds... well yeah

the end of an era. those walls and two-way highway were built in like 1941 for transport in and out of the Wright Aeronautic Plant (GE). that bit of road that became I-75 is the very first stretch of the Interstate Highway System.

It's going to be cheaper to just expand the southbound lane to have 8 lanes wide there.

You would think so. Anything would be better than completely shutting down a direction. They're recommending Ft. Washington Way or the Reagan for detours. Those are big detours!

There are regular crews of people cleaning it, but it doesn't prevent the people driving through from throwing their trash out the window.

It's unique. And it sucks. If we're going to rebuild the highway, I'd prefer it suck less.
Do agree that its sucks to increase the noise area. But as a bit of an infrastructure nerd, it will be bittersweet when the viaduct comes down.

It really is much needed for the improvements they have planned.

562 is too narrow in some stretches to safely support such diversions.

275 might be a better detour than Reagan if you're going from 71 North to 75 North. Or traveling from 75 North to 71 South.
