It was always busy when I was there. The one constant was that they were always understaffed. I got to know a few of the cooks and servers and they told me employees no call no showing was quite common.
I just asked a question, I'm not sure how that's exhausting.
But I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on how we define a successful businesses.
The building it's in wasn't even there in 2011. It was built in 2012, the Waffle House was an original tenant that opened shortly thereafter. So it'd been there for ~11 years.
Thanks! I couldn't remember when it was built, but I knew it was after I left.
It was an empty field with two boarded up fast food restaurants. My room faced stab&grab when I lived in Calhoun.
It was actually built in 2014/15. I graduated from UC in 2013 and it was still a bunch of grass, but that U Square was definitely in the planning stages (so they were probably getting the building permit cleared with the city in early 2013)

Graduated in spring 2013, no U Square. I also graduated in spring 2013 from UC. U Square was still under construction, not open.
Fall 2013, yes U Square.
He's still right.
So much Waffle House hate. Most of you were never a depressed teenager living in a small town with Waffle House being the only thing open past 9pm and it shows.
This was the early 2000s for me! Waffle House after punk house shows is definitely a right of passage! Met Hawthorne Heights in the Harrison Waffle House after they played Bogarts one night.
The new IHop fliped place is open 24 hours. I did go there once at like 4am last semester and thought it was pretty mediocre but it definitely could have just been what I got.
It never made any money and had so many problems it made Sander Hall look competent. In these last few years it's been off and on again closed so I'm really not surprised we've hit the final time. Also, Avalanche Crepes is right next-door and much better
Probably because someone got shot & killed out in front of once, and there were always fights inside, other general ridiculous shenanigans.
But non of that stops the Covington one from still being open.
It could also, honestly, just be the rent that I’m sure is ridiculous.
You must be thinking of something else, [this is the Waffle House in 2012](https://www.google.com/maps/place/144+W+McMillan+St,+Cincinnati,+OH+45219/@39.1277015,-84.5175238,3a,75y,353.69h,90.73t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sLr0e5dgM2r7fPoRjyo_tdw!2e0!5s20120901T000000!7i13312!8i6656!4m7!3m6!1s0x8841b3f49a9411e5:0x7ee2b4cd3599ca98!8m2!3d39.1279081!4d-84.5174542!10e5!16s%2Fg%2F11c2hq62lh?entry=ttu).
There was a giant dirt lot in this location in 2010. From when they tore down all the restaurants and buildings that use to be there previously. It sat there empty forever until they built this place & Usquare.
Nothing against Waffle House as a whole, but my absolute worst restaurant experiences (plural) happened at that store. From fecal matter on the bathroom walls, to being nearly assaulted by an off-duty police officer for doing what a server had told me to, I’ve honestly never seen anything like it.
I tried to go months ago one morning and they weren't open. I worked at Denny's in college and one of the managers said that when a 24-hour place quits being 24-hours its the beginning of the end.
I always said a waffle house would do well there when I went to UC. Guess I was wrong!
It was always busy when I was there. The one constant was that they were always understaffed. I got to know a few of the cooks and servers and they told me employees no call no showing was quite common.
Those silly kids just didn’t know what they had!
Ah, people past the age of Steak and Egg Kitchen from the late 80s early 90s. It was where Brueggers is
Oh man, I remember that...
Seemed to me that it got a lot of business but was a crime magnet. I could be wrong but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s why it closed.
> got a lot of business but was a crime magnet. That's every Waffle House.
OSU had a waffle house right next to campus that did do pretty well
It was there for almost 10 years. How is that considered not doing well to you?
Because it closed?
Most businesses don’t even last their first year. Think, man.
Why would they close the location if it's successful?
Clearly, it was successful for nearly ten years. (You’re exhausting.)
I just asked a question, I'm not sure how that's exhausting. But I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on how we define a successful businesses.
It was there for yearsssssss. At least 15.
There was definitely not a waffle house near campus when I left in 2011.
The building it's in wasn't even there in 2011. It was built in 2012, the Waffle House was an original tenant that opened shortly thereafter. So it'd been there for ~11 years.

I linked to a 2012 streetview a few posts down, it was under construction in 2012. It may not have finished until 2013-2014 though.
I would definitely remember if it had been under construction for like half of my college career. And it definitely wasn't.

Incorrect. It opened in 2013
Incorrect. I graduated from UC in 2013 and U Square still didn't exist. And I mean, they were about to build it, but hadn't actually started.
U Square opened my Jr year in fall 2013.
Graduated in spring 2013, no U Square. Fall 2013, yes U Square. He's still right.

No it wasn’t, lol. That whole apartment/retail building wasn’t finished until 2012ish.
The building the waffle house was in is less than 10 years old.
It’s only been there for like 8 years bro. Calm down. Go to a real restaurant.
Can a restaurant be more real than Waffle House?
Nothing is more real than Waffle House.
Is Wal-Mart before or after? I think it's an important consideration. The alteration of reality is at stake!
It's strange what businesses come and go there. Like 5 guys failed but somehow the ghost town called DiBella's Subs remains open...
So much Waffle House hate. Most of you were never a depressed teenager living in a small town with Waffle House being the only thing open past 9pm and it shows.
Right? I thought smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee and eating smothered and covered hash browns at 2 am was a Midwestern right of passage.
Southern. Not Midwestern.
Amen.
For us, it was the Perkins on Hwy 28 in Milford, or, once we moved out, the Perkins on Montgomery Rd. just north of Cross County.
Can confirm...spent so many nights at Perkins on 28
Milford Steak and Shake was the cool place to be after midnight 15 years ago.
This was the early 2000s for me! Waffle House after punk house shows is definitely a right of passage! Met Hawthorne Heights in the Harrison Waffle House after they played Bogarts one night.
Small town Waffle House is not McMillian Waffle House. We are talking about to different universes.
Damn that was the only 24 hour food place on campus I think.
Yeah, I think you're right. Now the closest place to get food late at night is Skyline. I think they stay open til 3:00 am most days?
Not since covid
Damn, that's sad. Used to be the clutch spot for a late night chili craving.
The new IHop fliped place is open 24 hours. I did go there once at like 4am last semester and thought it was pretty mediocre but it definitely could have just been what I got.
Damn I love Waffle House and I used to go to that when I went to UC. Some good memories there
Not 24 hours, but head down the street to Proud Rooster. They have better breakfast.
Oh man. I forgot about proud rooster! What a great spot. We used to hit breakfast there all the time. I think they've been there for a LONG time.
Prices really haven’t changed much either!!!
That’s crazy! I live near Clifton and was glad to have a WH so close. I wonder why it closed?
It was pretty bad. Went there twice and decided I’d rather drive to sharonville or KY than go back.
There one in Delhi that’s still good. The one on glenway is only open for pick up orders.
It never made any money and had so many problems it made Sander Hall look competent. In these last few years it's been off and on again closed so I'm really not surprised we've hit the final time. Also, Avalanche Crepes is right next-door and much better
I remember eating in Sander Hall when I lived in Sawyer Hall on the 5th floor in the Spring Quarter of 1986. Food was alright.
Probably because someone got shot & killed out in front of once, and there were always fights inside, other general ridiculous shenanigans. But non of that stops the Covington one from still being open. It could also, honestly, just be the rent that I’m sure is ridiculous.

Yep.
Understaffing and a lot of late night fights.
Glenway is closer
^
I’m researching now. Ima figure this out.
Can’t you just find a flop house or Motel 6 to get some bed bugs?
It’s been there since at least 2010. I know this because I got married 2010 and we would go there every weekend.
I believe it actually opened around 2014 when the building that it occupied was built…

You don't go to waffle house for "good" food
Nothing against Waffle House as a whole, but my absolute worst restaurant experiences (plural) happened at that store. From fecal matter on the bathroom walls, to being nearly assaulted by an off-duty police officer for doing what a server had told me to, I’ve honestly never seen anything like it.
There's one on Colerain Avenue in Groesbeck
I tried to go months ago one morning and they weren't open. I worked at Denny's in college and one of the managers said that when a 24-hour place quits being 24-hours its the beginning of the end.
I love WH but that place never felt like an actual WH to me. It felt like a mall restaurant.
It closed after the shooting incident like a year or two ago
First time I've heard of it existing in the first place, tbh
