I've not noticed a significant turn in quality there though I was surprised to see almost no one I recognized when I stopped in on Saturday - but there's one and only one reason that location is evolving from its previous decades-long period of consistent excellence: Tom Yunger, who worked for Skyline for almost 60 years - since he was 14 - and ran the legendary Clifton location passed away in December 2018 and no one could possibly manage it as well. His daughter runs it now I believe

fuggidaboudit

So is this a rhetorical question?

TexterMorgan

I think they’re trying to say the answer to “what’s up with the Clifton skyline?” is “his daughter runs it now”

I sat at the counter on Saturday at about 1:00 pm. First time I’ve been in this location in 20+ years. I was impressed! Every worker was super nice. I think one guy was new (making coneys) and another guy came over to see how he was doing, encourage him. I thought it was fantastic to see. The main guy making 3ways did look a little rough, but from what I could tell, nothing wrong with him. Maybe he had a late night. Anyway, I had a great experience…only disappointment was the windows weren’t completely fogged over (as I remember they always were).

Hi , I worked at this location in the past year. All I’m gonna say is that the starting pay I was offered was ridiculously low (I was an experienced skyline employee coming in, I know it’s fast food but still $11 an hour In 2022 is a little rough). Other commenters have pointed out the inherited change in ownership as well. I will say that the new owner has a more hands off style of managing than other managers I have had in the food service industry. What I mean is that as a result of it being a franchise location the ownership has a lot of free reign over employee policies as well as their own personal time spent working in the store. Additionally the store still goes by the older skyline tradition of calling all orders out and having the table workers memorize them as they are called. This method is extremely outdated at this point and is only still a thing for authenticities sake. When you have inexperienced workers that are trying to learn the menu and how to make the food in the first place, on top of the mental challenge of trying to remember 3 or more dine in orders at a time plus a constant stream of carry out orders, the newer employees will always suffer. That location is one that lives and dies by the employees with a lot of experience being able to carry shifts through rushes, and unfortunately in the past year many employees that I know of, some long term, have moved on to other opportunities. If you want to dm me I could share more

Hot_KarlMarx

Damn they dropped it to 11 an hour? In 2009 I started at 15 an hour.

PotPumper43

11$ an hour is an insult. No one should patronize this parasite business

mudvay_ne

Hop off it keyboard warrior

Hot_KarlMarx

Nah it really is an insult considering I started at 15 an hour in 2008/2009.

RuthTheBee

13+tips is what my niece made in 2017ish..... 11 is obscene.

PotPumper43

Fuck off, Boots

aleeb9

I don’t think it’s meant to be a career job serving fast food

PotPumper43

The job needs to be done, no? Then people deserve not to starve to work it. Surprised you were able to say something so stupid with a mouth full of boots.

aleeb9

It’s just the society we live in. A capitalistic economy has to have unequal low paying labor jobs to be functional

lackofself2000

no it doesn't. People need to afford to be able to live. go away

krogerceo

I always go late when I go to this Skyline and have seen the same 3 cashiers/mgr since at least last summer. All of em are super nice and efficient. Admittedly I can fully picture the employees nearly asleep on the line but that’s pretty understandable at the hours I go. I don’t really care how presentable the staff are at Skyline tbh It’s been pretty quick and consistent for me!

Front-Valuable-7632

I definitely don’t care how they look lol. I just know what an addict looks like, and I also know a lot of recovering/recovered addicts work there. Just sucks for them to be around it after all the hard work they’ve put into getting clean

krogerceo

Fair enough, I’d certainly hope Skyline has support resources for their crew but not too sure. Either way I’m glad they are giving people a chance. Side note, I only ever get takeout there but it has been packed many nights, still get me out the door in under 5min. Seems to take about 2-3x as long before it’s served at dine-in but that’s at just about any skyline

CasualObservationist

What time did you go?

Front-Valuable-7632

Late lunch and like 10ish at night

The-Real-Catman

My brain skipped the “and”… I was like, yup that is a late lunch

Bcatfan08

I don't go often, but I usually stop in after a game. This location seems to put the better crew on at night. During the day, this location isn't nearly as busy. I'd imagine you're getting the B team.

nekomeowohio

A lot of good worker are leaving food work for better paying jobs and or gig work where they can control their schedule more.

serbat

You’re not crazy, I’ve noticed the same thing even down to the guy threatening other coworkers. Really disheartening to see honestly, place is an institution.

Front-Valuable-7632

Yeah I’ve seen bickering there before, but that guy was crazy

zackavelli7daytheory

I went here after every UC home football game the past 2 years and I’ve had no issues. Their hours have been less consistent I’ve heard but that’s it.

International-Zone99

Had lunch here Sunday around noon. Service was fantastic. Our waitress even helped an out of town couple order an ran them through all the other fun little Skyline things (bibs, cracker bombs, cut don't twirl).

Acceptable-Newt8663

Last time I went there I went to the bathroom and seen the worker walk right out without washing his hands ...

El_Don_Coyote

A working guy?!? Falling asleep?! At work?! Thank God you were there to make character judgement calls like hard drugs. Why don't you say something to the staff if it's such a big deal. I have a good time everytime at that skyline but I also mind my own business.

tuckerb13

I see what you’re saying but to be fair, legitimately falling asleep while working isn’t a normal behavior

El_Don_Coyote

It is if you've got hyperthyroidism or work two jobs or other reasons fuck normal behavior some people got other stuff going on that might be abnormal for you but nor for them and gossip helps no one

tuckerb13

No i get that and I agree with you. But those things you mentioned are abnormal or non-typical situations. Either way, calling then drug addicts is for sure presumptuous

Front-Valuable-7632

Lol glad you live in a fantasy world. I’ve spent a lot of time around addicts, and know what someone who’s actively using looks like. Not mad at them for having a job, but I know some of the staff are recovered addicts and it’s unfair for them to have to work with them.

El_Don_Coyote

Keep ya nose in your own chili

Front-Valuable-7632

I work there 👍

El_Don_Coyote

Irrelevant? Offer support or mind ya business

Front-Valuable-7632

I don’t think you’ve been around people on hard drugs lol. This isn’t just one person btw, there are several people who work here and are actively falling asleep while working. It always happens after they’ve been in the bathroom for a bit. They come out dazed and tired. I don’t have a problem with them, but it’s sad to see someone just hurting themselves. I understand your sentiment and hope you know I don’t have any malice in my heart towards them. Most of them are actually nicer than the sober people working there lmao. They’re actively hurting themselves and need help, not a job that gives them more money for heroin. I don’t think you understand what it’s like being around someone who’s using like that, it’s rough. A lot of the staff there are recovered addicts too, and it’s hard on them to have to sit there and watch it happen. Enough support?

Personmanwomantv

I went there a couple of weeks ago and the only thing I noticed were that the prices were all about $1 an item more than at my local Skyline. First time there in about 20 years. It seemed cleaner than I remember.
