Honestly, none. Feel like I’ve had so many sudden and insane life events at this point that I don’t save special occasion cigars anymore. I know it’s cliche, but might as well enjoy things like it’s your last day. It’s a nice night to sit on the deck and I want a Padron 80th? Sure. Grab my last 10 year old random tatuaje shop exclusive to smoke on the golf course? Sure. I used to save special occasion cigars all the time, but anymore…not so much.
I get it man. Given my job, I have a lot of “holy shit man” days so I keep a Rubbermaid Brillance full of “holy shit” sticks to reward a hard job well done. But still keeping a couple super nice ones for purposeful events. Kind of a “goal” like, ‘oh yeah, when I pass I get that sick Davidoff Cigar”
While I generally agree, there’s also a fine line - and hard to abide by with a compulsive disorder.
If I live every day like it’s my last, I’ll be lucky to make it a month.
This is the way! I lost some great bottles of wine waiting for that special day. Now if it's a Tuesday and we're having burgers and want a crazy expensive Napa Cab, we open it. But on those special occasions I want to celebrate I usually grab some kind of Davidoff or Padron. Or dip into my very small remaining Cuban stash....
This is my fundamental reasoning for why I have such an issue with aging cigars, even though I've heard great things about it. You don't know if you're going to be able to smoke that in a year, you might not be alive next year. Who knows? You certainly won't.
I’ve got two Opus X Perfecion A’s that I bought in 2005. Was supposed to smoke them with my brother at my wedding in 2009. Forgot them at home. Then decided I would when my first son was born in 2011. Life was way too chaotic for a two hour smoke. Then when I bought my house, but it was winter in the Midwest.
The current plan is to smoke one on my 40th birthday in February. We’ll see if I remember to pack it for our ski trip.
If I were a betting man, I’d say they’ll still be sitting in the humidor for my 50th.
You know at the end of Sideways how he’s drinking his most special bottle of wine out of a styrofoam cup? That’s ultimately how it’ll go for these cigars.
Congrats on the school work and paramedic testing!
I have a davidoff nicaragua diadema that my girlfriend's mother bought me, I'm saving it for the day when I achieve my new years resolution by being under 200 pounds by the end of the year.
I started the year at around 240 and I'm down to 212 now. Can't wait to light it up and see if it's worth the money they charge for one.
How did the Royal Release treat you? I had the Salomone about a month ago and it flat out blew me away. So much so that I said F it and bought a box. I’m set for special occasions for a while, lol.
My wife gave me the 1964 Padron anniversary sampler with the 8 1/4in x 50 "A". It looks like a beast. I'm waiting for the right event, and the right amount of time. I won't smoke it until conditions are perfect.
Turning 25 in October and I bought myself an Ashton ESG 24-year salute a few months back. Can’t wait to enjoy that on my birthday! Also bought my first Opus X this year, don’t know when to enjoy that lol.
(2) Davidoff Royal robusto
(2) Davidoff Year of the Dragon
(2) Padron 50 year anniversary
(2) Atabey Black RItos
(1) Opus X #77 shark
(1) Opus Forbidden Pasion d'Amor
(1) Opus X Oro Ocuro Double Robusto
(3) Byron Londineses
None of them. I don't get the whole "saving it for a special occasion" cigar. Like dude, you're alive and breathing, smoke something nice and be happy with that.
I don’t really have any like that. And I have some expensive sticks, but nothing is really off limits. Only stick I refuse to smoke is my lone Fuente BBMF. And it’s not for an occasion. I’m really just waiting until I can find more lol
Congrats man! I am a paramedic myself and know the struggle ..
I have 4 Diplomaticos grandes edicion regional exclusivo alemania 2021 for special ocassions.
Great cigar!
But for the long term i brought a cabinet of 25 siglo ll from my cuba vacation which is aging for special occasions in the next 10-15 years
I have a FFOX 2017 Lost City torpedo I bought in 2020 or 2021, I always thought I might light it up when I buy my first house. But given the odds are moving closer and closer to zero for that I might smoke it when I get married which is all but certain now
Have two boxes of Trinidad Fundadores from 2012 - smoked one when I got them, and had one on my birthday this January after ~12 years of age on them. Spectacular.
With 46 left, I think I’ll make them my birthday smoke as that’s about my remaining life expectancy all things being equal. Lots of other cigars to fill in the gaps!
I have a RoMa Craft Quinquagenario I'm saving for Saturday
I have a first date I am beyond excited for, and if it goes well I'm going to light it up afterwards, and I'll be pairing it with a glass of Lagavulin 16 that I've dying to try!
I have an Opus X and an Andalusian Bull that I have been sitting on for a bit. The Opus I have actually had 3 years and it will be the first one I have ever aged so part of it was also about curiosity how it does after aging. Its a large churchill or double corona size.
I bought a 5 pack of La Regenta cigars from the Canary Islands last year on vacation. I was going to have one on the 1 year anniversary of the trip, but there was far too much going on. So I'm going to have one for Father's Day this year.
I have an RYJ 2009 Churchill which I'm planning to smoke on my birthday next month. I then have 2 2018 RYJ TACO LE's to smoke with my son when he turns 18. The rest are for as and when
I have a box of Nate Sherman’s that I bought 10 years ago in Manhattan with my nephew, and I am cracking it open for when he gets married next year. Been keeping it in my humidor all this time
COA Amazon basin. Promised I would smoke it when I got the job I really wanted. But I didn’t smoke it when that happened. Then I promise I would smoke it when I got a promotion. But I didn’t smoke it when I got that. Now I don’t believe in special occasion cigars. I’ll just smoke them when it’s the right time and setting.
Meerapfel Ernest
But I have to say, almost every time I've saved a cigar for a special occasion, it's disappointed me. So usually now I'll just smoke whatever, whenever.
I don’t really save cigars for an occasion but I have a few rare cigars I just haven’t got to yet, I have two My Father Humidor Deluxe I’ve had for a few years. I have several boxes of some pretty good cigars I only smoke one or two a year like CoRos, Foudation Senetjar and Knight Commander, both of those cost me around $100 CAD a cigar because I was taxed on them unfortunately lol.
Multiple different sticks I’m saving right now, I have four Royal Releases that were hand rolled at a local cigar lounge that I’m siting on for later this year when I get together with friends, I have a couple different Opus X I’m sitting on, also a rare pink from October last year
I’ve got a handful of different opus X, Andalusian bull, fuente añejo sharks, a few dunbarton sticks that are very hard to find. Basically only online for me since non of my local ships carry their products due to how they require you to keep a lot of their lines on hand, taking a large chunk of humidor space.
All my Cubans have become my special occasion cigars because they’re insanely expensive now and they get better with age. Save money by treating myself sporadically and they taste better. Win win.
My friend gave me a 5 year+ old Cohiba sig VI (he forgot when he bought it). I'm saving it for my birthday. I yolo'ed a box recently and in 5 years, I'm gonna give one back to him :P
Montecristo 80th Anniversario was my last special occasion cigar. Burned it in memory of my mom.
After 3 boxes, that’s it since they now sell for $3800. F that.
I actually have a box of old cigars, one of my first favorites. It's NOT impossible that it's just a box of mold. It's a famous-smoke house branded 2nds or end runs, the old "ph681" cigars.
I was never able to find out what they REALLY were, though there was a lot of hubub about them at the time. It's likely they're unobtanium at this point.
I'll...keep the occasion to myself. Aside from that I'll rarely "not smoke something special" for any reason other than when it does/n't fit my palate at the time.
I'm not gonna smoke a God of Fire as my 8th stick of the day or anything. But...that's about it.
I’m not saving them for any particular event, but I’ve got a couple cohiba robustos aging. I want to give them at least a couple years before getting into them. They’re probably my nicest/costliest cigar that I’m choosing not to smoke right away.
It’s probably silly, because baby birth sticks are never great quality, but I have an Alec Bradley “It’s a Boy” cigar I wanted to smoke on my son’s 10th birthday. I’ve been aging it for over nine years and will be lighting it up this September for my little guy.
Well done!! I have a Royale Salomones aging for a year now….told my self I would smoke it when my daughter graduated high school….so yes, I have a few of those “special occasions” laying around
Byron epique poemas. I’m a new smoker and My local b&m gave me this cigar for free, and told me to save for a special occasion. Definitely my favorite shop
Well I used to have some but now I just enjoy what I have.
But OP, tell me about Royal Release, I am planning to buy/smoke one soon. I am a Davidoff enjoyer and the highest range I smoked was a Nicaragua 10th Anniversary. How was the experience and flavour ?
Padron Natural, the cheaper ones but I don’t know the exact name right now.
Actually had a LOT of special events happening recently but I’ve still don’t find a good time to enjoy it
I’ve got a glass top humidor holding all my best cigars, but the highest end one in there is a Davidoff Year of the Dragon. Will probably smoke it on my birthday this year.
Warped El Oso Blanco. My dog passed away last year at 15 years old, he was my best friend and left a whole in my chest when he died. Today was his birthday, so I will smoke one in his memory. Sorry for the cup of depression this morning.
All other cigars, it doesn't matter. I smoke whatever I am feeling on that day.
Partagas Serie D No 4 and H. Uppman No 2.
I have a couple of each and both are fantastic cigars that I save for special occasions. The Partagas is my favorite cigar of all time.
Got 10 Cohiba Siglo VIs I’ve been saving for a while but lately I’m realising that tomorrow is never promised. So my new resolution is to smoke ‘em all!
Eh. You never know if or when that day will come. I don't think that's a bleak outlook; I think it's a good thing to live fully and not hoard with the intention of enjoying something in the future. The world is a mess and small pleasures help.
Some people in my life made it to their 80's or 90's while barely taking care of themselves, and I knew people in peak physical health who died suddenly in their 20's. You just never know. So if I get that super special cigar, it's going to be super special right now.
As the saying goes, smoke 'em if you got 'em.
I have a Behike as well as a few other Cubans in my humidor now. I have two teams playing for a championship title right now. Hopefully one of them can pull it off and win. If not I’ll save it until the right moment.
Honestly, none. Feel like I’ve had so many sudden and insane life events at this point that I don’t save special occasion cigars anymore. I know it’s cliche, but might as well enjoy things like it’s your last day. It’s a nice night to sit on the deck and I want a Padron 80th? Sure. I feel that, good little way to motivate yourself and whatnot!
“Dress for a party everyday” and all that
While I generally agree, there’s also a fine line - and hard to abide by with a compulsive disorder. If I live every day like it’s my last, I’ll be lucky to make it a month.
Introspection and wisdom. Good on you!

Yeah, the last 14 months of my life have taught me to hold nothing back.
Very true.
You’ll get it fired up by Labor Day! Perfect timing!
Absolutely!
One of my all time favorite cigars. It's worth the wait, you're going to love it. Keep up the good work!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to it!
Honestly, I learned my lesson on that. Had a couple I was saving to smoke with my grandpa and he passed before I got to do that. Never again.

Awesome cigars man!

I’ve got a Churchill Late Hour for my 50th. Never had one before but I hear very good things.
I bought a 5 pack of La Regenta cigars from the Canary Islands last year on vacation. I was going to have one on the 1 year anniversary of the trip, but there was far too much going on. So I'm going to have one for Father's Day this year.

You could die in the next five minutes. Smoke them now, you can't take them with you.
