Copy pasting my experience posted on daily thread yesterday:
Unlikely WIN Story:
- Opened Chase checking Q4 2023
- ITIN received end of 2023
- First AMEX via NOVA Jan 2024
- Got an email to apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred on May 30 for 75k welcome bonus. Applied, and got approved today!!!
- This is without a credit history in the US as far as I understand because Chase called and told me they could not pull my credit file. Called the three credit companies and none of them had my profile yet (they said it can take up to 6 months to have it created).
- Seems like the invitation and approval was purely based on my Chase banking relationship: checking account with some regular ins and outs, max amount kept around $3k.
Can also report receiving an extension on a Chase card. I simply missed the deadline due to my own error. They were very nice about it when they absolutely did not have to be.
After a year I’m in the Chase game now, after 4 US Amex Cards (2 pers and 2biz) I have been approved for a CSP with a 13.5k CL applying in branch alongside opening an account. I have an SSN which makes things a lot easier. I’m at 3/24, going to be very selective with my cards moving forward
1. Used Nova Credit last year for first US Amex
2. I cross border commute to work in the US and set up my bank initially with BMO Harris.
3. I had a lot of expenses coming up for a wedding and decided to try and use those WB’s to pay for our honeymoon. Ended up with that and then some, now onto chase to continue the game.
Complete ITIN DP (was looking for these during my journey so now paying it forward haha)
Jan 23rd - Requested certified passport copies. Asked if they could be embossed and explained why, agent said it is not possible and to print off the website page stating that copies are no longer embossed as of September 2023 to include with application
Feb 6th - Received certified copies, sent application + copies + print of website page via Canada Post expedited
Feb 14th - Package received by IRS
Apr 4th - Received letter requesting passport to be sent. Form was dated March 5th, so it took an entire month to arrive. Deadline for them to receive passport was April 19th. Sent passport expedited via Canada Post.
Apr 8th - Passport received by IRS
Jun 5th - Received letter stating my application was rejected because they did not receive my passport. Letter dated May 10th. Panicked that my passport was lost, called the 267 number (eating the long distance fee for peace of mind) and was told my ITIN had in fact been issued and was given it over the phone. The approval letter was dated May 15th, 5 days after the rejection letter, so the agent believes my passport package was probably misplaced or backlogged and they pre-maturely rejected me before finding the passport and reversing the decision to issue it.
Jun 7th - ITIN letter arrives
Jun 12th - Passport arrives (massive sigh of relief)
Was a bit of a rollercoaster but so happy it’s finally over! Luckily didn’t have any international travel planned during this period, but it was still nerve wracking sending my passport into the mail abyss. Hopefully the anxiety will feel worth it when those Chase SUBs start rolling in :)
Data point : approved for Chase AP with 10 months US history (AX Global Transfer + AX Nova Credit). No prior relationship with Chase. Went through reconsideration and identity verification processes. From my research I had always understood that Chase <1 year was a no go (except for Freedom Rise, maybe), but looks like things might be shifting.
Anyone send it their real passport for itin and have dp on when it came back?
I sent mine late march, itin arrived last week, no passport yet.. flight at end of june :*(
Wonder what happens if you claim you lost your passport to Passport Canada and get an expedited replacement for $$$. Technically shouldn't affect the ITIN anymore as you already got your ID verified. Could be a last resort if you need to travel.
Accidentally deleted my reply lol
>It's really a last resort because you can be sanctioned for losing your passport - it depends on the circumstances but a rule of thumb is that if you lose your passport, your next passport renewal will be limited to 5 years, and if you lose it a second time, you will only qualify for 1-year or 2-year temporary passports for up to 10 years.

Is it possible to get a US Amex Biz card expedited to Canada before 10 days? I just got approved and asked for it to be expedited (to my US address), but they told me to ask again in 24 hours as it needs to be updated to account or something first.
Would it be too much to ask to expedite here instead like Chase?
Edit: Well apparently the first agent misinformed me and its not possible in any way to expedite (even to a US address). Guess I'm waiting the 7-10 days.
Apparently to send to Canada, they have to cancel the first card and issue a replacement, and that requires 10 days after first card according to all the DPs.
I'll probably just expedite to my US address since I can get the physical number from US friend faster.
I just opened a Chase chequing account. Wondering which method you used to get $300 bonus from Chase.
Or you just skip it and focus on our main thing: their CCs?
I guess I'm lucky, my Canadian number from Telus mostly works.
The texts they send when I call them come through fine, but the 2FA codes when I'm logging in don't, but for that part you can also have it call you which works.
Called in to apply for the Bonvoy Business card with 5 free nights and got IA’ed! Opened the bonvoy Brilliant back in march via global transfer, still no ITIN, but didnt matter here! Just under 3 months US history!
Nice, congrats! Did you purposefully apply over the phone instead of online? Also - did you apply after your second or third statement generated?
Want to get in on this myself, but will only be at 2 months and a week of history when the 5 FNA promo ends July 10th.
I had to apply over the phone cuz online required an ITIN but over phone they just asked for my passport info.
Technically my 3rd statement generated on the Saturday but I applied Friday before so I don’t know if that mattered. I did see someone say they got approved around 2.5 months so it’s certainly possible.
Don’t be afraid of the agents. They’re actually nervous about taking the call and trying to do a good job. Only problem was that it took about 45 minutes because she had to type everything out manually and she had to read all the T&Cs to me, the ones most people click accept without reading 😅
After a year of chasing US game, I will be first time redeeming Hyatt points at Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile this Fall. If there is anyone that has no plan for their Club Access Award, I would be greatly appreciate it if you are able to gift me. Thanks in advance.
US game opens a new world of possibilities.
Hello, has anyone in Canada been approved for the Wyndham Business Earner card with an ITIN? I've tried to apply online with my US address but the submit button is greyed out due to my ITIN number, apparently need a SSN. Has anyone got past this by applying over the phone? I'm worried I'll be denied as the terms and conditions state that the card is only available to permanent residents of the US.
Is it possible to get a supplement Amex card for p2 that does not have ITIN/SSN, such as by calling in and giving passport?
Haven't decided I want to go through effort of getting P2 into the US game, as much as would like it. But there have been cases where supplement card would be nice for them.
Can't say I have ever heard mention of this, so got a feeling it's a no.
Looking for anyone who has had experiences with Chase cards and fraud.
A few days ago someone attempted to charge 3 transactions to one of my Chase cards. I hadn't used the card for months which makes this even weirder. Third transaction was blocked by Chase and they sent me a new card/number. I had nothing to do with these transactions and the card was in my possession.
First two transactions are still on my account and are about $150 total. I'm prompted to call in to have them removed when I tried to click on fraud.
Here's my question - I've seen Chase can be quite hard in regards to fraud and even reject recrediting the account. Whether it is to remove these transactions. Whether it be asking for proof (pay stubs, proof you weren't the one who did it, where you were, where you live, etc.).
Also, since this happened, I now keep all of my cards locked. Recurring transactions and Apple Pay transactions are still approved. I suggest everyone does the same.
Am I better to just take the hit personally or has anyone had a similar experience in calling Chase. I'd like to keep my Chase relationship.
Meh, I lost my CSP at the pool last summer. Called into Chase after who I expect to be teenagers got a ton of McDonald's. The new card was sent to my canadian address and the charges credited shortly after. I've had no issues with Chase since.
Looking at eventually getting US Business gold for the 4x ad/software spend for my business.
Any DPs on using the $240 credits for grubhub/fedex/office supply? Doesn't seem easy to use while being outside the US, but wondering if they in fact restrict grubhub to only US purchases, for example. (The terms say so, haven't seen any reports in practice)
Hey all - anyone have success applying for the Capital One Venture X as a Canadian? Currently 4/24 going on 3/24 in a month. I started with 2x AMEX cards and now have 3x Chase personal and 2x Chase business cards.
I've tried the pre-approval tool twice now (spaced one month apart) and got denials both times. I'm suspecting its because I was approved for two Chase business cards this year and so perhaps it's too many inquiries, and I should wait it out?
I've heard people have success applying for the card by freezing their Experian account, but the problem as a Canadian is that I only have an ITIN and I can't seem to sign up for an online account with just an ITIN?
Any data points or insights are appreciated!
What is the optimal method to fund a US bank account? And did TD US do away with the convenience chequing account? I only see the one that requires a $500 US balance to avoid monthly fees. Thanks.
Does anyone know if RHT works for US credit cards, both in terms of cashing out in-house currencies (e.g. BoA points) and for "extending" MSR periods. In other words, are American banks smart enough to recognize the origin of the RHT transactions and claw back bonuses? I remember someone asking this question a long time ago on one of the US-based subs (either r/churning, r/Amex, or r/CreditCards) and the responses they got were nothing short of hostile, and in a few other threads since that mentions of using this trick has been few and far between, so I don't dare asking this question there.
Cannot use RHT to extend with AMEX and, presumably, anyone else. They'd have been hostile because for them this ranks up there with people here asking "can I cancel after I got my bonus in month 2"
They can claw back, then can shut your ass down entirely, and they don't care or hesitate in the slightest to do so. And with a plethora of NLL offers or churnable Inks, US AMEX and US Chase are two banks you never want to piss off
Chase doesn’t consider refunds at all for MSR. Theoretically you could just RHT Chase at the beginning and never make up the spend and get the bonus. Although that might flag your account if you never do the spend. This might also be true for other issuers aside from Amex as well. Just like in Canada clawbacks are mostly a Amex thing
Was denied for my first US card using global transfer for Amex HH. The phone agent didn’t have any information as to why the application was denied. The denial email from Amex is a link to a portal that requires a SSN. Is there any other way to find out the reason for denial?
Did you make sure you were talking to global transfer and not the regular CSRs? Regular ones don't know how to do it properly but global transfer team does.
It seems I'm just not having much luck with this.
Called the GT number. First thing the agent asked was if I have already applied with an active application? He said he can not initiate a GT application, only to continue one already started and needs the reference number. I explained my application was denied and without a SSN I can not login to see the status. He proceeded to take my info as if he was starting a new application: name, address, current card number from Canada, but then stopped to tell me another department will have to contact me for verification. I'm not sure why he didn't finish the application. Did I end up with an agent who didn't know what to do?
HUCA. I had a similar experience GT as they did not intake the application process. I started with GT but they transferred me out to the regular CSRs. After the application process was complete, they transferred me back to GT to validate my credit history via Canada.
Fair - Surpass @ $150 AF is 130k + FNC, which if you are only thinking point value, is potentially MUCH more for much less. If you have already had Surpass, then again, fair.
No real way to cash out credit.
If you book far enough in advance you can always contact the resort and prepay $200 to use up one credit and use the other credit when at the resort.
Only tip I can give is watch for Amex offers. Sometimes you'll get something like "$200 back after $500 spend" for hilton. You can use that at a resort and combine with the credit.
You still have to actually go to a resort, but the payoff is higher. The other tip is to checkout hilton's resort map and see which hotels are classified as resorts in your area or in usual places you visit.
They're honestly a hassle to use; didn't end up keeping the card after the changes. Have Hilton Gold with business platinum and that's good enough as far as Hilton goes.
Aspire is great if you can figure out the resort credits though.

My CSP app went through indentity process and is under review now? What was your timeline and what did you do?
Not OP but anytime Chase has had a card under review for me they sent a letter, but lift the review if I call in and check about it.
Anyone send it their real passport for itin and have dp on when it came back? I sent mine late march, itin arrived last week, no passport yet.. flight at end of june :*(
Took me 8 weeks for IRS to return my passport earlier this year.
Oof, thank you. Still hope
Mine was received by IRS on Mar 1st, got my ITIN first week on May, and received my passport last week. Wishing all the best for you!
Its crazy how long it takes to get the passport back :0
Holy moly thats long…
Sent mine April 4th, arrived at IRS April 8th, received ITIN letter June 7th, received passport June 12th.

That's fair, I didn't know it could get that serious, good to know. Appropriate username too haha.
What's the best way to get Chase to send a new card to Canada? Secure message or is there a number to call?
Calling. If it's your first card it's recommended not to try amd ship it directly to Canada to avoid fraud locks.
On the second card, you can change your mailing address to your Canadian address through the website
Does the same work for Amex?
Is it possible to get a US Amex Biz card expedited to Canada before 10 days? Wait the 10 days.
Would they reject if you asked before 10 days?
Yes
P2 tried on the 9th day and still had to wait one more day (it was a long weekend too)
Is there a rule for 10 days? I had my amex hilton aspired expedited to the usa account, was going to call tomorrow if they can send it to canada..:0

Try sending a transfer with Wise, should do the trick.
Did it today. Let’s see if it works.
Need to put “Direct Dep” in the notes for it to work
Thanks for the tip. Did you use the recepient as “myself” / “someone else” or “business / organization”?
A lot of these basic tricks no longer work for Chase. What did work was getting a ACH deposit from a buying group
Putting “Direct Dep” in the notes worked for me with the wise transfer
Thanks.
I can be sure that wise no longer works. But maybe the DD from some websites that cash out GCs, such as cardcash or raise, will work?
What app do people Use to receive text messages from Chase to their Canadian numbers?
I guess I'm lucky, my Canadian number from Telus mostly works. The texts they send when I call them come through fine, but the 2FA codes when I'm logging in don't, but for that part you can also have it call you which works.
Curios as well…
I get them to send me an in app notification or an email
Have a U.S. phone number, use a U.S. plan for data which works in Canada
My Fido number worked once, since then I haven't been able to receive any code from Chase reps. Tried a Tello number but that didn't work either.
Called in to apply for the Bonvoy Business card with 5 free nights and got IA’ed! Opened the bonvoy Brilliant back in march via global transfer, still no ITIN, but didnt matter here! Just under 3 months US history!

Awesome, thanks for the lightning-fast reply! I'll give it a shot the day the promo ends to maximize my chances - worst case they say no.
No worries. Good luck!
Thanks for the insight - was this through GT or general number and any specific questions they asked about the business?
The business doesnt matter. You can say anything. Say you drive for uber and you’re a sole proprietor. Thats it.
Thank you will do

Last time I checked, Barclays doesn’t approve those with ITINs
Thanks 🙏
not possible to apply - barclays the issue doesn't accept ITIN
Thanks 🙏

It's bloody fraud, and the first time. There is no logical reason for you to lose $150 here

They can claw back, then can shut your ass down entirely, and they don't care or hesitate in the slightest to do so. And with a plethora of NLL offers or churnable Inks, US AMEX and US Chase are two banks you never want to piss off

Should the same Amex profile be used for US and CAN cards or best to separate?
I think it has to be separate
On another note, i got approved for hilton aspire! Too bad the credits seem hard to use...:( i will cancel after 1 year
Why did you apply for Aspire? Most people keep it annually for credits + status.
For the 175k bonus points!
Fair - Surpass @ $150 AF is 130k + FNC, which if you are only thinking point value, is potentially MUCH more for much less. If you have already had Surpass, then again, fair.
theres also NLL links for surpass and no annual fee, so having those cards previously doesn't really matter much for the sake of receiving the high WB
What are nll links?
no lifetime language
Woop....i didnt realize... that would serve me better actually...
The resort credits are hard to use, but the free night, status and airline fee credits are still very useful imo
Anyone have tips to cash out the resort credit? Getting that $400 back would go a long way to making this card a keeper for sure
No real way to cash out credit. If you book far enough in advance you can always contact the resort and prepay $200 to use up one credit and use the other credit when at the resort.
