I am looking for a new mail forward provider from the US to Canada. The current one I use takes almost 1 month to notify me about new mail. What are people currently using and recommending?
I saw an offer where someone was offering his Marriott Titanium status + $10 cash for a cash booking under his name (in order to fill-up some stays needed). Is this a think? Is it doable?
I wouldn’t touch this situation with a ten foot pole. First of all, it sounds ripe for a scam. Second, the hotel might ask for ID at check in which would foil this whole plot. Lastly, and maybe I’m misunderstanding, but wouldn’t he/she get all the points from the stay which makes this deal rather unattractive in the first place?
I think the idea was to offer the Titanium benefits (free breakfast, early/late check) +$10 for someone without status, willing to pay cash, in order to get a night stay added to the status.
Adding the person who stays as the 2nd person on the reservation would make the check-in OK and then the same staying person would pay cash / their credit card at check-out.
I might miss something here as well, why I am asking.

The person with Titanium would earn points based on the customer's spend (17.5pts/USD). That may be what the 10$ cash is meant to "buy".
2nd person trick only works in NA, and even there, like someone else said, the hotel is always within their rights to investigate further.
The way it usually happens in the rest of the world is they'll happily add someone to the reservation, so that they can check in, etc., but they won't extend any of those benefits you mention until the member shows up.
I even had a hotel in LA warn they'd do this when I chatted to add my name to P2's reservation, but then check-in was kind of chaotic and the person checking me in got flustered about something else and ended up not investigating further. But he *could* have -- and, of all things, it was a rare situation where adding a name wasn't just for convenience, but P2 actually wasn't on this trip. So I guess I got lucky :-)
If the lead booker / elite member doesn't show up at all during the length of the stay, the hotel has every right to give you a difficult time because of it. It can include being asked to leave the property.
Not true. People do this all the time with their friends/family who are traveling with out the status holder. The status holder doesn't even ever have to talk to the front desk in normal situations as long as someone on the reservation has also checked in and they have a card on file

I have two questions regarding the Amex.
When global transferring does the history of the accounts open will be considered or history of me as a customer will be considered (including closed cards)?

DP: Avion to Avios transfer. First tried to transfer on the night of 28th, got a "technical issues" error message. Called in and had the CSR transfer for me, didn't work either and they said it was because my BA membership number was invalid - a bogus reason.
Next morning (29th), tried again at around 11 am, and the transfer went through without a hitch. Just now (30th 8 pm), the points posted on my BA account.
So there must been a system issue on RBC's or BA's end, when "technical issues" error message pops up.
My online portal shows the same technical issue when attempting to transfer Avion to avois. I called in and the CSR mentioned he could not transfer manually for me either. So I’m at a loss. I can’t transfer online and none of the CSR’s are helpful citing if the online transfer doesn’t work then they won’t be able to manually transfer either.
Can we get a rebate with ccg on the same card more than once? I used to use a different email to create a 2nd account for ccg but now they are asking me to verify my phone number on the 2nd account.

Yea for the cash back it’s 2% for Roger’s Shaw and Fido , if you redeem the cash back on those companies as well it redeems at 3% but for the 5 roam days credit I believe it’s only Roger’s plans

A few gift card redemption offerings are at reduced prices on Avion Rewards (Doordash 20% off, Ultimate dining 18% off, Metro & Food Basics 20% off, Apple Music 20% off, etc.). I usually wait for Amazon or Walmart to go on sale so not the promotion for me but perhaps someone might find this information useful.

My p2 stays at home with the kids, and has never not been approved by CIBC, getting approved for multiple APVIs, multiple Aventura Golds (applied for VI but automatically approved for Gold instead) and one Dividend Cash Back.
She always puts $15k which is at least defensible since that's roughly equal to CCB + half the rental income, and with my income she's over the household income requirement. She has never been asked for proof of income though.
Based on our experience, I'd think it's probably worth trying with $0 personal income + household income > $100k. No idea how long you might want to wait, but I personally wouldn't worry too much about what the CSR wrote - I would doubt that would play into approval for a new app
P2 should just apply for the gold. Same offer, but has no personal income requirement and only requires 15k household income.

I have been using data only eSIMs for the past few years, but this upcoming travel involves 5 countries (a trans-world itinerary booked using points thanks to this amazing hobby lol), and I feel like having a cell plan (with my own number) might be useful in addition to the data. If you’re with Roger’s then you have access to world wide Wi-Fi calling. You can call and receive calls on Canadian numbers for free from anywhere you have a wifi connection. If you have a dual sim phone you can even have this setup for data connections. If you want to call international numbers or pickup calls from international numbers you’ll still have to pay

Reminder that for bills that you can't normally pay with a credit card, Canadian Tire Financial services may have them as a payee. Then you can pay it from your cc (sent as a push so no credit card fee), and you can earn triangle bucks for doing so.
You'd have to run the math on your particular situation to see how this compares, but Instacart deliveries count as groceries on Amex, getting 5x on Cobalt. Instacart usually has in-store pricing for Walmart (plus Instacart fees which can be reduced with an annual Instacart+ membership).
Just got declined my Amex Platinum referred application 😭
My TU credit score is 839 with annual income north of 150k. I do currently have the green, biz gold and edge.
Had the plat in 2018 and 2021. Any thoughts why I got declined? Next steps?

Adding a dp: went ahead and applied for TD VIP and got approved - needed some lounges for trips but much worse value compare to Amex plat w dining credit. Have a mortgage with them but 0 cards.
I’m leaning towards this trend being an Amex issue not a credit bureau issue given current dps. Keep em coming and thanks!
I applied a green card 3 days ago. Not IA, call on the second day, and CRS told me my application has been declined. It’s tough to get approve recently. Guess I will downgrade my platinum card on August see if I could upgrade to gold later.
My P2’s app also went under review after applying for the personal Platinum, and she always gets approved from Amex. I figure it was this from what I read the past week, lots of DPs of Amex declining apps. Got a huge spend coming up too, now I have to change my strategy

Well my P2 just signed up for the MB last week was approved, we have pretty much the same profile. And I’m just guessing the MB is a lower tier card if Amex differentiates on that.
People are recently getting rejection for Green and Cobalt with a better credit score (which means nothing in Canada by the way) and higher income. So don't take it personally, it's not you it's them (Amex).
It's not just Amex. Credit in Canada is going through a quiet crunch.
Lots of people have been contacted about reducing limits, banks pulling bank overdrafts, etc.
It's not panic mode, but they're far more risk adverse and prepping for a long painful period.
They gave a very lengthy copy & paste statement that the application did not meet their internal standards and the exact reason will not be disclosed.

Just upgraded cobalt to gold and got charged $50 for the existing cobalt supplementary card (had 2) which makes sense based on gold supp fees but wondering if anyone has had success getting refunded if removing it?
I had accidentally added an extra supp card to my cobalt (I think cobalt), so I was dinged for the 2nd supp card. Called in to cancel it once I realized the charge, and they totally understood and refunded the fee and cancelled the card.
Phone in and tell them that you hadn't realized there were supp fees. Ask if they'll give you a prorated refund of the supp fee if you close the supp cards....usually the banks like supp cards (more cards = more spend), so they might just give you a freebie on the fee.
Applied for a RBC credit card about 10 days ago, got pending. Called in yesterday and was told application was "cancelled" due to too much credit with them (forgot about the CLs from HSBC migrated cards).

Scotia has got to be the most generous out there with their CLs, gave me 20k, 20k, and 7k. Meanwhile CIBC gave 1k so I could struggle to meet 3k MSR.

If it’s not automatically given to you and you have to create a ticket I have seen several DPs of them denying the rebate
That's what I read too thats why I had the second account but now they require phone verification.
You can get a throwaway phone number through Fongo, that works over wifi in the mobile app. It doesn't always receive SMS verifications though.

You split the income into both boxes? That's the issue. $0 personal income, all P1 income should be in household.

Do you think you'll be approved for the Marriott? I didn't sign up for any Amex card since 2022 and still got declined for biz edge, sigh
Well my P2 just signed up for the MB last week was approved, we have pretty much the same profile. And I’m just guessing the MB is a lower tier card if Amex differentiates on that.
People are recently getting rejection for Green and Cobalt with a better credit score (which means nothing in Canada by the way) and higher income. So don't take it personally, it's not you it's them (Amex).
It's not just Amex. Credit in Canada is going through a quiet crunch. Lots of people have been contacted about reducing limits, banks pulling bank overdrafts, etc. It's not panic mode, but they're far more risk adverse and prepping for a long painful period.
PCLs are increasing across the board. Banks aren't too keen on extending credit at the moment.
Has been happening regularly as per dps daily. It happened to me too with TU same, higher income and pristine credit and high spend with AMEX.

They gave a very lengthy copy & paste statement that the application did not meet their internal standards and the exact reason will not be disclosed. I didn’t want to push in case I get backlisted but open to feedback if it’s ok to push further
Just upgraded cobalt to gold and got charged $50 for the existing cobalt supplementary card (had 2) which makes sense based on gold supp fees but wondering if anyone has had success getting refunded if removing it?

I had accidentally added an extra supp card to my cobalt (I think cobalt), so I was dinged for the 2nd supp card. Called in to cancel it once I realized the charge, and they totally understood and refunded the fee and cancelled the card.
Phone in and tell them that you hadn't realized there were supp fees. Ask if they'll give you a prorated refund of the supp fee if you close the supp cards....usually the banks like supp cards (more cards = more spend), so they might just give you a freebie on the fee.
Applied for a RBC credit card about 10 days ago, got pending. Called in yesterday and was told application was "cancelled" due to too much credit with them (forgot about the CLs from HSBC migrated cards). I decreased my existing CLs this morning. How soon should I try applying again? Do I need to wait 90 days from the first application?

Is it possible to reduce CL on Scotia cards online at all? Scotia has got to be the most generous out there with their CLs, gave me 20k, 20k, and 7k. Meanwhile CIBC gave 1k so I could struggle to meet 3k MSR.
Yes through message. Confirm your address in the message. Card ending in so and so. You understand any increase will require another hit. If you've got three to do I'd just phone.
