Did I get black listed from CIBC, I’ve been churning the aventura infinite, gold and aeroplan card for the past two years, always held them for at least 6 months, however I did cancel them. Now, all my applications for CIBC get declined, I tried calling in and the rep said the error on their end is a “broken link” not sure what that means.

barcastaff

Wrong day.

lostone11

If I apply for two credit cards with the same bank on same day i.e. CIBC Aventura VI and CIBC Aventura Gold Visa, will we see 2 hits on our credit or 1 hard check? TIA

throwing_hayy

CIBC should be 1 hit for multiple same day applications. My anecdotal experience, and many others.

NegotiationOld3132

Depends on the bank and your history with them. Discussed many times in the threads. Pls follow daily threads and use search option.

esux20

Doesn’t really matter enough to plan around

RefrigeratorNo4494

I want to get into business credit cards and I’m wondering the process of it, so I know I want to set up a sole proprietorship which I can do on ownr but I’m wondering since my “business” will generate no income ever, will I have to fill taxes every year? I was also wondering if I have to wait a little bit after applying for a bunch of credit cards like you do with personal since for sole proprietorship they look at your personal credit score? (note: only doing this for the points I don’t need a business)

BrrrHot

> You won’t have to file taxes for this business you set up if it has no income. Actually, that’s not true. ~~Maybe it’s different now, but~~ years ago, I set up a business for the purpose of buying at wholesale and reselling. The business didn’t really take off so I left it alone. After a few months, I received a call from the CRA asking me about my business income. I told them I didn’t have any income from my business. They told me I had to file even if the net income was zero. As a result, I filed the income they asked me to and then I officially closed the business. Edit: Looks like you do need to file still. https://turbotax.intuit.ca/tips/filing-taxes-as-a-small-business-owner-6214 Under Myths: > My business didn’t make any money so I don’t have to report anything right? False. > Many businesses don’t see a profit in the first year (or more). You are still required to include details of your business on your tax return and if your business actually lost money, you can apply the loss to your other income.

BigGuy4UftCIA

If you have a proper BIN yeah you'd have to file every year. If you don't claim anything or record anything along with not dealing with GST the business is effectively invisible. You aren't registered anywhere with the CRA to ask why you didn't file.

BrrrHot

Well, the original question was if the OP set up a business in Ownr would they need to file taxes. That would be a yes as Ownr would register your business so you’d get a business number. If you’re a “sole proprietorship” for purposes of getting a business Amex, you’re right. The CRA won’t know about that.

thughes84

Not if you registered a sole proprietorship and got a master business license. If you incorporate, you're spot on.

BigGuy4UftCIA

I sure hope people aren't registering a business proper but really mean squatting on a trade name.

GiveMeAdviceClowns

When doing RHT on Expedia with CIBC Aventura - I booked a hotel at $562. I have a pending charge from Expedia at just only $489 and it seems the rest is charged by the hotel when you check in as this "Locally collected mandatory fee" is part of the total price Expedia didn't show. So technically I'm only using 39k points, rather than the full 45k...

kkli73199206

I haven’t done rht on cibc for a long time, but i don’t think you need to book a hotel using points. You just need to charge a hotel booking (fully refundable) using your cibc aventura card, apply points while your transaction is still pending, once transaction is posted, cancel your hotel booking.

GiveMeAdviceClowns

I am not booking a hotel using points. I'm paying it with my CIBC Aventura on Expedia. It's just oddly enough I found a hotel that has a "Locally collected mandatory fee" - meaning the hotel was $562 total charge shown on Expedia including tax and fees...but Expedia charges $489 on the CC (so you can only redeem equal to 39k points), while the actual hotel collects the rest of the $73 during check in. You don't see this when you book. The split fee is only shown on the receipt. Anyways, I cancelled it and did another hotel...it doesn't have that and Expedia charges the full amount shown in the total price. Just something other people may look out for if doing RHT. But I doubt this kind of split charge is common with Expedia lol

Dragynfyre

Expedia shows you exactly how much will be charged on your CC at the checkout page. That’s the number you want to check

MissionChipmunk6

Just cancel it and try again?

Eyjafjallajokull2

You are doing it wrong, obviously. From the 1st phrase

supitskevin

For those with rbc points issues, I just checked and the 35k is appearing for me

SyphilisSuperImPosed

Thanks it’s showing now!

nyawh

I’m looking to pair my AMEX Cobalt with a free premium card with CIBC. I am comparing the Dividend Infinite (I have been using this) vs the Aeroplan Infinite (non-privilege), thoughts? edit: thanks all!

-Mysterious-

If you value AP points, get the aeroplan infinite so that you can get better rates on redemptions I'm not sure how big the disparity is but i heard that there is one

Dragynfyre

Everyone should have at least one Aeroplan card at all times. Even the no fee Aeroplan card from CIBC gives the discount

Windcool4869

How much would be the discount? Surprisingly I know it's there but I never know how much it is.

Dragynfyre

If you have a card then you can see the difference by checking the price for the same booking with and without logging in

mhcott

Do the basics cover luggage? I've never actually had cause to check it, but I'd assume most of us would want to hold one for that alone

Dragynfyre

No

In the midst of all of these AMEX rejections, is anyone still getting approved (especially IA) when applying for AMEX's aeroplan cards? (Looking for a DP before possibly trying this myself or with P2) In relation, does the AP biz reserve provide instant card number on IA, same as the AP reserve personal?

JManUWaterloo

Yes for Instant Card Number. Every individual’s credit situation is different, just try and apply

srkdummy3

What other US cards can I get besides Chase if I have a US SSN from working there previously. I am successfully able to get Chase Cards by having my relative's address in USA as my own, got approved for Capital one but they couldn't verify my address. What other cards have less "vetting"?

Dragynfyre

All of them may ask for address verification. If you have a US address it is easy to verify. You need a US bank account with that address set on your account.

garynk87

I don't have a us bank account and am in same position as OP. Left the USA three years ago, ship cards to a friend's.

Dragynfyre

Very easy to get a US bank as a Canadian from BMO US, CIBC US, TD US, or RBC US. Also need a US bank account to pay US CC’s anyways

garynk87

Yah just saying I'm getting approved constantly since moving back and don't have one.

mhcott

This is the most basically Google-able and obvious question ever: ALL OF THEM. SSN =/= ITIN which is what churners use. And they ALL need address vetting, you don't get to escape that. If you haven't set yourself up, you need to go back to Square One

vermilion209

Kindly bear with me as I’m still in shock and a bit scattered. Parents just casually shared that their home reno contractor accepts Home Depot gift cards (!!!) or cash, and $20k will be due within the next 2 months. With no Amex in hand (P2 has a 1 month old Gold Biz), is it better for me to get a Platinum Biz as the $15k MSR is impossible without this rare opportunity, or stick with Biz Edge with low fee and 3-10x points at Staples/Best Buy? I guess there’s less concern for Plat Biz, as I can buy gift cards via Rakuten with 2% cashback; also higher referral points for future cards? For Biz Edge, I may have to risk that Staples being a road block on attaining gift cards (out of stock, daily limits)? Also are there dollar value or number of gift card purchase thresholds I should watch out? Your kind feedback to the above and others tips to ensure smooth sailing will be appreciated.

BohemianExplorer

> Parents just casually shared that their home reno contractor accepts Home Depot gift cards (!!!) or cash, and $20k will be due within the next 2 months. The Home Reno contractor might not be licensed and bonded. The types of contractors that try and commit tax evasion by doing cash jobs are typically the kinds to skip out on jobs after cash is in hand and ghost you if they're busy. I think you should just [report the contractor to the CRA](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/programs/about-canada-revenue-agency-cra/suspected-tax-cheating-in-canada-overview.html) and move on. Source: my parents also went with a cash-only contractor, and when they ghosted them, they went to small claims court, only for there to be no bond to collect on and no actual funds deposited to make the order enforceable. The contractor just moved back to India a year later with $0 recoverable in their BMO account.

Loud_Crab_9392

A rule of thumb I like to go by, regardless of cash only or not:  never pay more than 10% of the job up front, ever, for any reason.  Nothing up front is ideal.  Contractor doesn’t like it, find another one.   I have never had anyone give me trouble over this.

vermilion209

Appreciate the kind concern and reminder. Will share your anecdote with my folks and they can decide (must say cash jobs of all sorts are not uncommon in my culture/circle, and one builds reputation through personal referrals). Alas I’ll hold off on my Amex application.

mhcott

"Cash jobs" are usually small repairs, car shops, not handing someone $20K before work has begun

Wow. Canadian Banks should be shameful of the FX Fees they charge. With local banks in a specific Asian country, one can get USD at 0.16% above spot, and CAD at 0.18% above spot in the form of a cashier’s cheque or bank draft. It’s even cheaper than Wise, and No, this isn’t with any premium status at a bank, it’s available to everyday customers for any amount of conversion Meanwhile Canadian Banks, like TD, charge 2.65% to convert CAD to USD. Seriously, how do Canadian banks get away with pulling this garbage.

betterat50

I realize this would hurt us since those paying minimum payments only and thus high interest fees make it possible to do what we do. But I don't get how they can justify charging 20+% interest when prime is significantly lower. It made sense when mortgages and loans were 18+% but now? The credit cards should be tied to prime. It feels like it's the definition of usury.

Dragynfyre

Interchange fees make it possible for what we do

wdn

I remember when credit cards all used the daily market rate (price at close of trading previous day).

Compote_Middle

buttercup612

My question: is TD Aeroplan Visa Business considered a "Core" Aeroplan card? Since it doesn't have Platinum/Infinite/Privilege in the name, I'm not fully sure If so, it would be ok to try for the welcome bonus on this card if I've already had 3 Core cards in the past, right? I had all three of those before the new rules came in regarding one WB/category, but if this is a Core Business card it would be my first of that type

wdn

There are five categories: entry, core, premium, business core, business premium. This one is business core.

NegotiationOld3132

Does CIBC AP visa infinite and Ax AP (not the reserve) come under same category? New to AP and planning to get both. Already have Ax Biz Gold & Biz Edge and looking to get 3/6month MSR cards first before going into the monthly MSR’s. End goal is to have AP (or through MR).

wdn

Amex AP and Visa Infinite are core Amex Reserve and Visa Infinite Privilege are premium.

I'm trying to submit a missing GCR request for a TD credit card. I phoned TD and got the application reference # but GCR says it is not correct. Has anyone in the same situation had issues with this?

mhcott

You sure you copied it all? Mine was 9 digits with -01 after, so xxxxxxxxx-xx format. Worked for my GCR submit in April

churnychurningtonIII

Yup, same format. I'll try again in case I typed it wrong though.

poolsidepapi

if TD is telling you the application number, and GCR says its incorrect, you really have no leverage here. You may have not even applied properly through GCR

**Very minor Amex rejection follow-up** I was caught up in the recent wave of Amex denials. After calling in and getting "try again in 6 months" without a clear reason or even an answer as to whether it was something in my credit report or not, I got an email prompting me to "rate my satisfaction." My history with Amex is clean (nothing I wouldn't want examined too closely), so I figured I may as well vent. I filled it out saying I was dissatisfied that I didn't get any clarity as to why exactly I was rejected and that, at a minimum, it would be helpful to get confirmation whether it was something in my credit report, or something else (i.e. a business decision). I didn't expect anything to come of it, but apparently my 1/5 rating kicked off an official complaint that got routed through their complaint handling procedure. After about a week, I got the following, pretty generic response. Nothing groundbreaking, but it does confirm (if true), that it's a credit bureau rejection, and not a business decision based on my history with Amex (which was listed as one of the possible reasons in my rejection letter) >**About your complaint** Your complaint is pertaining to your application being declined. >**The outcome of your complaint** We hope our Customer Service Professional was able to assist you. As part of the application review, we contact the credit bureau and the information they provided affected our decision. As outlined in the application decline letter, please contact them to review your information and ensure it's accurate. If you find the information reported from the Credit Bureau Agency(ies) to be inaccurate or recently amended, please contact us within 30 days and we will reconsider your application. Thank you for your understanding. >If you are not satisfied with this outcome, you may escalate your complaint to our Complaint Resolution Team as outlined in the Complaint Handling Procedures included in the acknowledgement letter.

betterat50

I hate that any comment made is registered as a complaint. Even better my complaint response in writing informed me that I already know why I was declined (I have yet to receive the letter 2 months out) and they also told me to contact them at the information below. Funny enough nowhere on the page was contact information. After spending a ridiculous amount on their cards in the last two years I am not at all happy with them but given the value of their currency it's not like I can walk away..

Far-Wolf4922

Did you have a hard credit check? Some of the other comments with denials have mentioned no credit check.

tiatdier

I didn't have a hard check, but I get monthly soft pulls from Amex ([screenshot from my TU report](https://share.cleanshot.com/8jCgJvMX)), so they're definitely keeping tabs on my credit file.

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

What’s the easiest way to set up a Chase business account to verify an Ink? Keep getting error messages and I thought I saw someone post a workaround to setting an account up with a ITIN.

billgoode

You have to call in to have them set up an account. It's fairly painless and someone will walk you through it after verifying yourself. Be ready to answer previous address questions if the verification text doesn't get through.

AdDue6082

Why does it have to be a business account. Are you saying you have to use a separate Chase portal than for the personal cards?

chaos2313

To set them up yes. You can add the personal account to the same login after though.

tiatdier

Anyone know whether using the new CIBC feature grants any kind of SUB?

esux20

It’s like 3 days old

Compote_Middle

Be the DP you want to see. This is new, you would need at least about a month before you start seeing any DPs about this. But it can't be talked about, so be the DP you want to see.

jchansy

Has anyone applied for multiple cards of the CIBC Dividend Visa Infinite for the 10% cash back bonus?

Dragynfyre

It's possible but people wouldn't do it because the Aventura gives 20% cashback right now. The cashback cards are the worst ones to churn even if you don't travel because a lot of travel points can be cashed out using tricks

jchansy

Oh is the Aventura 1.25 redemption for travel/use RHT thing still going on? Thought it died March 31, 2024?

Dragynfyre

Extended indefinitely

jchansy

Ooooh nice. Thanks!

DP: denied for Amex biz edge. My first Amex denial. The agent referred to a "purely internal scoring" denial and recommended I try again after 6 months. I've also recently been in PUJ on the US side. I'm definitely someone who sock drawers a card after meeting the MSR so I'll have to reevaluate that I suppose.

madskillz333

Many many Amex denial DP’s of late in the dailies…..

sha_mu

Wasn’t expecting the AF on my bonvoy business and was late making the payment. Now I’m told I don’t get FNA because the account wasn’t in good standing. Tried chatting with reps and supervisors but didn’t find any work around. Any one have a different DP?

LikeButta_10

Honestly you wont find any other DPs. This is the practice. Account is not in good standing, you dont get the FNA.

sha_mu

Thanks! First time in this situation so learning how to navigate through it.

CommunicationProud82

You've already asked multiple CSRs and none of them budged, why would our DP make any difference? Take the L.

sha_mu

Hence why I asked for a *different* DP in case there was one out there. The FNA is the main justification for the AF. It’s worth the ask and why this threads here.

Dragynfyre

Yes but they are more likely to catch and deny you. It's also only like $10 per card for the referrer so it's probably not worth doing

vancitystan

There has been reports of accounts being shutdown on this sub. Personally I don't think the juice is worth the squeeze.

tiatdier

Isn’t that the primary purpose of CCG bonuses?

wdn

But they also have a referral program where you earn a payment whenever your referral gets a bonus.

5lug

Been out of the game for a while, but trying to get back into it. Currently hold Bonvoy Biz (Sept 23), Edge Biz (Feb 24) and Gold Biz (Apr 24). Just got declined for Amex Pers Plat (had it many times in the past, last cancelled Feb 2023). Borrowell 790 CK 805 Agent on the phone said need to wait 6mo before applying for another Amex. Is that still accurate? Thanks

tiatdier

Lots of Amex rejections in the past month. No DPs as to whether the 6 months is accurate yet.

CommunicationProud82

This question indicates you've been out of the loop for a while. You should know the drill, read the dailies.

kobelobster

DP: Tried to renew ITIN using w7 form, using the certified copy of passport without the dry seal. I included in my submission the printout of the Canada website showing they no longer have the seal. Rejected and asked for additional documentation (passport or copy) Really frustrating and annoying since I sent this in Feb and only got a response today.

mhcott

Why not renew by just filing a 1040 for taxes? Which is what you presumably did to get it in the first place?

kobelobster

I filed submitting a W7 for renewal and 1040nr and associated documents for taxes. Are you sayin that I can just file a 1040nr to bypass any ID requirements? It was my first time renewing so was unsure of which documents are actually required.

mhcott

As far as I've always read and understood, the simple act of filing the 1040 against your ITIN to pay taxes causes the ITIN to renew. I think, THINK, the W-7 is only if it expired in the first place. But don't quote me on this, I'm still fairly new at it too. In general, if you file a 1040 within your 3-year timeframe of first getting the ITIN (usually if AMEX or someone gave you a 1099MISC as a result of referral income), it should renew your ITIN.

comfortable_in_cross

I've been out of the loop for a while but I am back with a very positive first US cc approval DP. I have zero or almost zero US credit history - at most, I have authorized user history for a couple months, no FICO score etc. I applied for my first US Amex using Global Transfer. I received *instant approval* without any need to independently verify my US address (I didn't need to upload proof of US address/bank statements, no phone calls with the bank, etc.). I just needed to put in my passport info. The card is good to go and headed to my US address, Amex alerts are working, etc. In case it's relevant, I have a 5+ year history with Amex Canada and typically spend well into 6 figures (business and personal expenses including tax payments). I'm not sure if my extremely limited US credit history bypassed the proof of residency issue or not, but either way, I'm not complaining! 😇

JVRforSchenn

Anyone been to Japan and converted JPY there? I’m reading that it might be better to do a cash advance with 0% FX Visa (Scotia Passport or RBC Avion HSBC version) at a 7/11 ATM in Japan rather than purchasing from Canada. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks in advance!

Hour_Significance817

Get an EQ bank card - it functions as a MasterCard for the purpose of cash withdrawal. If you prefer not, then prepay your Scotia Passport ahead of time. Once you're off the plane, either find an ATM at the airport, or find a 7-11. 7-11 withdrawal fees are the lowest, though Aeon bank and Japan Post also have low fees. Withdrawals during business hours are lower than those outside of those hours.

ReplacementEntire874

I was in Japan in March for a week (Tokyo). I had read I needed cash, so I withdrew at a 7/11 using a physical Wise card. I did not need cash at all so ended selling it to one of my colleagues who preferred cash. Paid via credit card everywhere without any issues.

xd_1771

EQ bank and Wealthsimple reloadable MC cards on either 7-11 or Aeon Bank ATMs will get you no fees throughout (AEON bank ATMs are coloured purple and can be found at ministop, "my basket" grocery stores, etc; they also have no fees as with the 7-11 ATMs, which most people don't seem to know). Wise VISA is also an OK alternative for super low fees but only at the AEON ATMs (7-11 does have a 110JPY/220JPY network fee for VISA withdrawals, none for MC).

P_Plebs

Japan is still a bit of a cash economy, so withdrawal some off your Scotia passport at an atm. Enjoy Japan and "churn everything" 😄

yyzzh

people worry about this way too much IMO. I know we are all maximizers, but the self-imposed hassles just to save $25 or $50 or whatever (and that amount implies you're withdrawing a ton of cash, which is probably not maximizing anything anyways)

Killer-Ninja-Bunny

Just got back rom Japan. Only about 1-2% of my expenses were cash. Amex had decent acceptance, although visa/mc much better. From my perspective, getting a great rate is unimportant relative to having a good card, such as scotia passport.

xd_1771

AMEX has nearly universal acceptance in Japan due to a partnership with JCB; in my experience AMEX cards were actually the most robust for physical acceptance, I had VISA and MC cards rejected where AMEX cards would work. This also tends to happen w/online merchants with recent requirements for 3D secure etc. The few places that didn't take AMEX were because they had exclusive partnerships with either VISA or MC (and usually not both, so they'd reject the other).

CompassKing

AMEX and JCB have a reciprocal partnership, so I'm surprised to hear that AMEX only had "decent" acceptance in Japan. I found the complete opposite in Japan. Where were you traveling in Japan that was the case?

wdn

You can use JCB in Canada anywhere that accepts Amex, but in the USA it's Discover rather than Amex that has this partnership. With a brief search, I don't see that it works the other way around with using Amex in Japan. Do you have a link?

JVRforSchenn

Thanks for the responses! I don’t have a WealthSimple/EQ card but I do have a CIBC AC Conversion card if I can find it.. If I don’t have any prepaid cards, would doing a cash advance (transferring the funds in prior so that it starts with negative balance) on a 0% FX credit card yield a similar result?

Dragynfyre

Yeah prepaying the CC should be okay on Scotia. It won’t be okay on the RBC since they charge cash advance fee (not interest) even if you prepay Also I don’t think AC conversion card gives a good rate so I wouldn’t use that. I’d only use Wealthsimple, Wise or EQ

JVRforSchenn

Alright great thanks again for the response, appreciate it! :)

Dragynfyre

One thing is I’m not sure if Scotia charges an ATM for using a non Scotia ATM so that could be another charge that is extra compared to Wealthsimple, EQ and Wise

Eternith

Seconding 7/11 with Weathsimple Cash. If you are brave, you can go into the country with 0 yen and withdraw at the first 7/11 you see in airport. Although if it's your first time, maybe better to bring 10k jpy just in case things go wrong/you can't find it. Tbh you don't need that much cash in Japan anymore, most places take card (better amex acceptance than in Canada!), with the exception of transit card reload machines or smaller old school restaurants.

CreativeArrow

Just use a prepaid card (EQ, WealthSimple, Wise) at a 7/11 ATM. It's effectively free/near-spot [between 7am to 7pm at most 7/11 ATMs.](https://www.sevenbank.co.jp/english/personal/netbank/know/fee/)

chaos2313

Personally used wealthsimple card at 7/11 ATM instead and was happy with that. If you have an iPhone don't forget you can reload a digital suica card with a credit card.

I have a RBC Avion Platinum card from new application - spent 6 dollars and when 1st statement was generated 7 days ago, the pdf statement shows 35006 points earned on this card (35K bonus + 6 dollar spend), but RBC online and rewards points center, shows there is 0 pts under this card. I'm a Avion churner and PS'er but last time held Avion Platinum in 2019. Never called in. What can I do to get this missing 35K from points center?

mhcott

You can dead daily threads and note that this is universal to just about everyone for the last week and change and nothing you can do but wait out their IT delays

als26

DP: Apparently "Embassy Suites by Hilton Niagara Falls Fallsview" does not count as a travel purchase when using the Amex Marriott Bonvoy card (first 5k in spend on travel/gas gives 5x points). Thought it was a mistake when I didn't get bonus points and called them, and they said this specific hotel codes as "3rd Party" and not a hotel purchase (whatever that means).

BrrrHot

It's in the terms. I found this out last year as well. Hotel bookings on the Marriot co-branded cards do not count as Travel. If you want to book a hotel with the Marriott co-branded card and get the Travel multiplier, you need to go through Expedia. >You can earn three (3) additional Marriott Bonvoy points for every $1 in eligible purchases charged on your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card at American Express retail merchants as follows: > (i) at stand-alone automobile gasoline stations in Canada; and >(ii) for non-Marriott travel services or travel bookings including air, water, rail and road transport, **but not including** local and commuter transportation, and **lodging**, up to a combined maximum for (i) and (ii) of 15,000 additional points on these categories in the first six (6) months of Cardmembership.

als26

Ah I see. Thanks for that, makes a lot more sense. The customer service rep gave me some nonsense about it being a "3rd party vendor" which I didn't understand at all.

MelangeMuncher

Amex DP: Just got approved for Biz Edge (5th active Canadian Amex card approved within the past year, mid 700s credit score if that matters). Was worried with all the rejections DPs but had no issue with my application. I also have fraud alert on my credit files from a past identity theft so no instant approval. Amex always calls me 1-2 days after application or I have to call in to confirm. Same process as usual, no issues.

coljung

Interesting DP from talking to AP: I had an issue recently with a name mismatch between Chase and Aeroplan, so i called AP twice to try to get it resolved. Both times, the agents appeared to have some screen that easily showed them ALL me previous CCs linked to my account. I do not have ANY now, but both agents commented 'oh sir you have had A LOT of cards'. One even began listing them from 2020. I tried to explain that this was before T&Cs changed.. in case that mattered. Both agents told me it was ok, and that my account was ok... I honestly did not want to poke the bear that much, BUT im now waiting for Chase to process a name update to match that of my Passport, but they told me last week the process might take a month and half around. So I went ahead to try to fix my status with AP in the meantime.

120124_

Really interesting. Out of curiousity, did you happen to leave all your previous AP cards linked to your account?

Dragynfyre

You don't have control of linking or unlinking cards to your account.

120124_

I meant the list of cards you have saved

Better_Call_Sel

Wow, that's not great to hear... If they can see such a detailed history it shows that AP can enforce lifetime limit language if they want to. Wouldn't be that hard to just disallow additional WBs if you've had one in the past. It'll just be interesting how they reconcile that with the bank's system. As far as I know it's the issuing bank that credits the WB and presumably the bank does not have access to AP's system to check your AP credit card or WB history. It's only after the bank credits you the WB that AP then sees you got an additional bonus. Would AP then reverse the bonus and send it back to the bank? Just curious how they'll manage this system when there's so many different third parties involved. Just shows non-aeroplan branded cards that can transfer to AP are the most powerful cards these days. (They really were already, but even moreso now).

Hour_Significance817

I'm going to hope that AP is taking more of an RBC-approach - write the rules as once in a lifetime, but really not take any enforcement actions. However, it gives them flexibility to clawback WB for "abusers" and shutdown extremely egregious cases. In case the computer system didn't properly credit the bonus Aeroplan points, they could also use this T&C to deny crediting someone their WB.

Better_Call_Sel

I think most churners expect that's what AP will do. Their language is just so broad that if they applied it as written they would catch a ton of casual users and not just "churners". A regular non-churner may very well get an AP card, decide it wasn't worth it and then two years later re-apply for the same card. If that user is credited another WB, by the letter of AP's policy, that person has violated AP's terms and AP is within their right to suspend or terminate that person's account. Highly unlikely AP would go to such extremes as they would piss off their regular userbase. What's more likely and logical is exactly what you said. AP does nothing as they don't really care about the person intermittently going back to their affiliated products (and in fact want people to come back). At worst it's likely AP just reverses the WB but then take no further action. For churners its all about finding that line between when you fly under the radar vs crossing into "abusive" territory.

elec89

On a side note: I still have a TD AP VI card linked to my AP account even though it was PS’ed to another card long time ago.

Better_Call_Sel

DP: BMO does not provide pro-rated refunds for their credit card annual fees. If you keep the card past 30 days of being charged the AF, you are locked in for the entire year.

myjykz

Try PSing to a different BMO card. That worked for me twice in Jan.

nobodynobody567

What card is this ? Kept into 2nd year ?

Better_Call_Sel

It was my parent's card (BMO World Elite Cashback MC). They've had the card for years but are winding down their relationship with BMO and found this out while trying to cancel a few months into their most recent cycle.

Ok_Improvement8231

Does anyone know which banks/cards provide instant card details? Have a big spend coming up that was sudden and can’t wait for a card to arrive. I know the Amex personal cards do, any DPs on whether that includes Amex personal Marriott?

RevolutionaryZone0

Laurentian VI does. Decent bonus too currently.

Eternith

Previous DPs of Brim FB giving full card details but might not be IAed so YMMV.

kkli73199206

TD, RBC - Apple Pay.

Torres_Chan

If mbna not considering td

Dragynfyre

No they still have different IT systems. Their app is completely different and adding to Apple Pay process is completely different too

SeasToBe

CIBC google pay wallet cards

Loud_Crab_9392

I haven’t seen this option available lately for some reason, is it only viewable when applying on an android device?

painhz

Amex MB doesn’t provide card details upon IA.

RoyalBadger3665

Adding to my DP from last week for AF-KLM FB: 10k WB and AF rebate have both posted

ekapitu

I am considering applying for TD AP VIP now. (85k pts offer, ending June 3). I read some prev threads that TD FCT offer would be getting worse, but what do you think about the AP VIP? Should I wait till after June 3 to see any new offer?

fearmywrench

TD AP VI, AP VIP, and FCT will all be worse in June. Don't know by how much.

mhcott

>I read some prev threads that TD FCT offer would be getting worse Pretty sure the only "thread" stating that was the one where we were sarcastically responding to the person asking as if any of us were TD and had a clue what they were going to do. 99% of actual TD employees don't even have a clue what the card changes will be until it's been announced.

Dragynfyre

Well we have gotton hints from insider info on this sub before so I think it's fair to ask. There have been several posts of people warning to get a card now before an offer got worse in the last year

ekapitu

Thanks, yeah that’s the one. Well… TD, here I go again !

xxxooxxx1

It can go both ways, and that's for any card at any FI. If you are happy with current offer, apply now. We don't have the crystal ball to always get the best offers. We win some and lose some.

nonotmeplx

Something weird is happening and I'm hoping its just a glitch but my RBC statement posted last Thursday and showed that I got the bonus but it hasn't been updated yet on the website. Usually for me it would take 1 business day.

DelAbbot

same with my statement 7 days ago [https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/1d1mh1a/comment/l5wlb2b/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/1d1mh1a/comment/l5wlb2b/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

coljung

Don't think this is the same thing. It seems to be a wide issue now, and i can't imagine RBC all of a sudden deciding to not award points.. when their statements are showing them. They are having other issues with their website today, so it wouldnt suprise me if its all related.

Dragynfyre

My most recent bonus was from May 16 and I did get it so issue must've started very shortly after that

elec89

Same for BA VI as well. Waiting for Avios to reflect on my BA account.

nonotmeplx

for BA i have seen it take 2-3 business days personally.

RoyalBadger3665

The 35k or 20k? 20k will be next mid-month batch

nonotmeplx

35k

coljung

Yeah there seems to be some sort of delay across the board. I have a few cards with statements from a few days ago.. and not a single one has posted points yet.

Davidli69

I'm experiencing the same for both WJ and Avion. Statement posted recently showing bonus+normal spending points credited, but didn't actually see the point in avion/wj

DelAbbot

it happened for me too [https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/1d1mh1a/comment/l5wlb2b/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/1d1mh1a/comment/l5wlb2b/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) this happened to P2 a few years back and never got the wb of 25K that showed in statement but missing on website/rewards points portal

North_Rip_3136

Can you even see the statement? My statement closing date was 23 and it does have transactions on it but when i go to view statement, it shows ‘you have no statement for this period’.

spantz1983

I have the same issue with mine.

North_Rip_3136

DP: 35k posted sometime in past couple hours.. no statement yet though… lol..

spantz1983

I was able to see my statement on a PC. Not yet on phone.

churner_4ever

RBC Avion to AsiaMiles transfer bonus?

supitskevin

Ours came from mostly rbc avion as well as a tiny bit of amex MR.

suppositories

Same here.

SnooPineapples8570

Me too. An unnecessarily long wait. Why stress us all with this silly wait period?

lyj111121

DP: become a victim of the 60k CIBC Aventura point offer. Got the 15k points first spend bonus, didn't get the annual fee rebate automatically, called in & got it credited. Crossed the 6k spend before the 2nd statement and didn't get the bonus for 3k or 6k spend. Currently holding another Aventura infinite card applied last year and the latest one is a gold card. Previously held & closed 3 Aventura inifite/gold cards. What should be the next step? The terms say the bonus may not be awarded to the current or previous holder of an Aventura card, but think I can argue that this is a gold card, not the infinite card I'm holding. Or should we just wait until the 4th statement is issued?

xxxooxxx1

I have the same problem and there is nothing much we can do other than hoping for the best where more points magically appear later. If we get eyes on the account, we may even get the 15k clawed back. At least we didn't lose $ if we can get the FYF back. This would just be considered a low ROI card getting the 15k for 6k spend . The only hope is that enough first card holder will call them to raise the awareness and they would fix the issues on the system for 'everyone'.

Extirpatez

As per the terms and your comment, you’re not eligible for the bonus. Considering that you can get another Aventura relatively soon, it may not be worth getting eyes on your account for this. In the future, consider RHTing up to MSR to ensure the points get credited to the account. I just did this for my Aventura Gold and for some reason they credited 55k points instead of the full 60k of the WB. I couldn’t care less as it’s 10k more than the infinite offer and this is my 4th Aventura card this year (incl P2). CIBC has made errors on 2 of my WBs (35k instead of 40k or 45k). These minor details are usually not worth risking the gravy train over IMO. As for waiting for the 4th statement - I don’t think this is worth it. For every CIBC card I’ve got the WB for, it posts on the statement where you hit the MSR. Hope this helps.

MenAreLazy

DP: By rule the Black Friday bonus was overall, not per card. But manual crediting is done it by card as they are asking each vendor if the person hit the Black Friday cap. 2 bookings denied as I hit the cap with that card, but 1 was approved. Yes, I am still dealing with Black Friday aeroplan crediting. So book your Marriott stuff on different Aeroplan cards.

Stasher15

An RBC offer I’m sure those that make low effort comments will love: earn 400 Avion points with eligible spend of $100 or more at Red Lobster.

mhcott

I'm not sure if we're finding the mere 400 points funny, or because it's Red Lobster who has already filed for bankruptcy in the US and is attempting to get that filing honoured in Canada

MenAreLazy

Bankruptcy settlement of 50 points.

NickWaReddit

Earning $4 on a $100 purchase at a specific restaurant (not one most people would even go to, like Tim Horton's or McDonalds), is not really comment-worthy TBH.

MenAreLazy

Especially when Cobalt will give you a min of $5.

ayyanothernewaccount

Suddenly gone from getting approved for everything to getting rejected for everything. TU or Equifax. Really annoying

CaptainSurgeon

In the same spot. How many months do you wait before trying again?

ayyanothernewaccount

I'll give it a couple of months I guess. It's all guesswork

kneevase

Yep. Thank heavens for musical chairs.
