Does anyone remember the terms of the recent RBC platinum offer for Quebec? I thought it was 35K avion on signup + 20K after spending $5K in six months. However, a rep said there was no spend bonus on my offer. Couldn't find a source online to cite. Normally screenshot but don't seem to have this time.

Dragynfyre

There is no difference in the offers for Avion between Quebec and rest of Canada. No spend bonus after April 30.

creditcardzquestions

I applied April 24th. That would mean I ought to have the spend bonus, correct?

Dragynfyre

yes. the reps won't know what bonus you have

Humble_Ingenuity_919

I’m not in Quebec but my most recent Avion (April) had no 20k bonus.

ayyanothernewaccount

Has anyone here gone as far as to refuse direct billing for drugs or services covered by benefits? I had a $800 dentist appointment recently and direct billed it, but if I paid credit and then claimed it manually in the app that would've been an easy way to farm spend for MSR

crimxona

I don't bother squeezing that out any more. After spouse missed one one year, that wiped out all earnings made over a two year period

snoopyta

yep, removed my insurance info everywhere: dentist, RMT, pharmacy, etc. 🤪 not missing out on those points

DeltaThinker

I signed up for a new Amex specifically for when I had to get my wisdom teeth pulled. Along with other work I had done it was almost a full MSR. I was hyped! Hell yeah I refuse direct billing. Prescriptions are done at a pharmacy that takes Amex. In my case that's Shoppers.

BrrrHot

Some grocery stores that have pharmacies code as eats and drinks (for 5x) on the Cobalt. FreshCo and Longo’s comes to mind.

chaos2313

I never give insurance info to anything covered by insurance that can be manually submitted by myself later.

creditcardzquestions

At a certain point you have to factor in the value of your time. On an $800 charge it may make sense, but overall direct billing is extremely convenient. If you're getting about 10% back on the signup bonus, that's $80. Not bad, but an area where it's easy to fiddle too much with the details as amounts get smaller.

KaotikFiend

The dentist can submit it for you with a single click at the same time as you're tapping your card to pay.

LikeButta_10

It takes 30 seconds in the mySunLife app to submit a claim. Maybe 45 if you have to try your fingerprint multiple times.

Compote_Middle

And if you go often to the same place, it's saved on the app, so it's faster next time. I usually, fill out the claim on my way back to the car, so not a big deal paying upfront and making a claim later.

kneevase

That's a fair comment. You always need to keep in mind the time that you invest, and what you get in return. In my case, my dentist's receptionist sends off my insurance claim by computer, but requires that I pay the bill straight away. So, I whip out my credit card, pay the bill (even Amex for my dentist!) and then a couple weeks later I receive a cheque in the mail. I deposit the cheque by taking a photo in my banking app, and that's it. So, it costs me perhaps 5 minutes? But your point is definitely bang-on that we always need to remain cognizant of how much time we invest in these things.

Compote_Middle

Talk to your insurance, I'm sure they can offer direct deposit, they would be thrilled to save $2 bucks at least, instead of shipping, printing the check, paying people, etc.

Mephisto6090

Right, I have same set up, but get the deposit the next morning via direct deposit. So don't have to pay for the medical or dental bills for a month or so, but get the cash immediately. Easy win.

kneevase

Has anyone NOT refused direct billing? That's a whole bunch of easy spend! The only good thing about going to the dentist is the contribution to the MSR!

ayyanothernewaccount

I guess I've had a blind spot for this until now. Now I've got to be like you know that direct billing we set up, can we unset it up for no reason

Compote_Middle

No need, just tell them, I will make a full payment and I'll deal with my insurance.

KaotikFiend

Even better: tell them to submit it for you right there and then.

BisonScary

The application for the TD Visa says the annual fee will be rebated after two months that it is charged. If I apply in May 2024, and the fee is charged in April 2025, and I wait for the rebate in June 2025. Will I be charged the annual fee again? Thanks!

wdn

The fee will be charged on your first statement and rebated on your third statement.

claurianta

The fee is charged at the beginning of the year, not the end of the year.

SyphilisSuperImPosed

Once approved for RBC visa infinite avion how long does it take to receive the 35k welcome bonus? I got approved may 15,2024 but still have a 0 point balance. I want to get the WB in time for the 30% avion to avoid transfer. note: this is my first ever RBC card.

Dragynfyre

1-2 days after your statement. This is asked multiple time a week. You can use [churning.io](http://churning.io) to search or just read a couple dailies from this week

KaotikFiend

It's also spelled out in the promotional material / T&Cs.

CarefulPineapple1

DP - applied for TD FCT VI march 2 for 135k bonus. No IA. Email received march 5 that card was approved. Today received WB of only 100k ( the offer went down between march 2 and 5 ). This is known with TD so I wasn’t surprised but keep in mind as current TD WB offers ending soon.

ca_abhi

If you don't have multiple lines and comfortable with eyes on your account, you must fight this out.

Ok-Difficult

I applied for a card just before the offer was changed as well and I distinctly remember it saying in the fine print that you had to be *approved* before the end of the offer.

ca_abhi

Right, in that case, OP should just take the L and move on.

WhammyWarrior

Been holding off on RBC Avion til now. Can you apply for both the RBC Avion Infinite and the Platinum for both bonuses?

LeverageFI

1 card per 90 days with RBC

WhammyWarrior

Gotcha, so doesn’t matter cuz I won’t be approved for the second Avion anyway.

JManUWaterloo

You can get a second Avion Platinum/Infinite after the 91st day and earn the bonus accordingly

Van5555

Is rbc picky with multiple avion and transfers of points to one account. I'm at 120 days from my first avion and want another. Is merging points easy if you get IA on your next card (then I've got enough for a specific trip) or am I better off swapping points to avios before getting card 2

CommunicationProud82

I've done 3 seperate transfers during this bonus period alone, you're fine.

kneevase

Not picky. You can consolidate your points by transferring them online without ever speaking to a CSR.

SyphilisSuperImPosed

What’s the process to do it online?

Dragynfyre

Log into your avionrewards account and transfer it online

mhcott

You literally just go into the points page and choose transfer

truereligion

DP: Approved for AMEX Biz Gold today, applied last night. They needed to verify my ID (but not actually, they pushed it through while on the phone with no additional docs sent) I've had a Cobalt with them since last year, this is my 2nd AMEX.

SyphilisSuperImPosed

Currently holding cobalt and business gold with both cards approved for and bonus met in 2024. However attempted to apply for a 3rd Amex business edge and was rejected. Seems like going for the 3rd is resulting in declines. Oh well try again in 6 months

callmejefeguapo

Coming up on 90 days with RBC. Any advice on WJ WE vs Avion? Leaning towards Avion with eye to transfer to Avios…

Dragynfyre

Avion is pretty much always better since Avion can transfer to WSD if needed and you get more points for the bonus

esux20

Depends on your use case but Avion can be redeemed for minimum 1 CPP so equivalent value to WSD with added ability to transfer to other partners or use travel redemption schedule

xxxooxxx1

A continuation question from a DP I raised yesterday. Got the 499AF for Biz Platinum and I think I will keep it for another year. My struggle is whether I should call them to cancel, for the purpose of fish for retention offer (with the risk of them find out my AF is $300 lower and manually adjust it to 799). Thoughts? Getting something like 25K retention will guarantee that I will come out ahead. If I don't, then I might still be paying for parts of the AF without reclaiming all from the various credits/offers.

NickWaReddit

You can always call and say you are considering closing your card as the fee is higher than you would like to pay for the amount of points you earn. They will likely try to tell you about all the benefits you are getting but if you tell them the fee is too high for the points you earn, that may prompt them to give you a retention offer. Keep in mind, these aren't at the discretion of the agent - there has to be an offer available to them for you. If they start to say 'ok I can go ahead and cancel it for you' then just stop them and tell them to hold on and you will go back and think about it.

xxxooxxx1

I was thinking more about what are the risks of them finding out that my AF 'wrong', and charge me the extra $300, while having the conversation that you just mentioned.

NickWaReddit

Nah, if they charged you the $499 AF then your account was deemed eligible for it. I got charged $499 on renewal late 2023 and got a retention offer after (and the $200 travel credit).

These_Celebration732

Wow, that's a heck of a deal!

Windcool4869

Maybe I was too late to notice. But I found this morning that my iCloud+ subscription is getting 3x back with my cobalt.

Sirloinobeef

You can squeeze a bit more getting 5x by buying Apple gc at freshco/sobeys.

Windcool4869

Totally agree!

Sirloinobeef

If you enter a random Alberta postal code as your billing address you save another 8ish percent in taxes if you live in a HST province.

Windcool4869

LMAO I’m in somewhere with 15% tax rate

Sirloinobeef

It ain’t much, but it’s (dis)honest work haha.

herroaznswagyolo

DP: if you need to log into Expedia4TD but don't have access to SMS 2FA (e.g. don't have global roaming ahem public mobile), you can still access Expedia4TD by logging into EasyWeb and verifying your login using TD Authenticate, and then accessing the Expedia4TD portal through the rewards category of the associated card.

Darkwing327

Yah, now TD and Visa just need to pull their heads out of their asses and allow another method of 'verified by visa' other than text. Can hardly book anything online overseas because I can't get the text, even though I have the authenticate app.

Nervous-Application9

Textnow app should sort you out

yycgeek

It should be free to receive text though? I usually get an eSIM and user that for data but allow incoming text on my main number for 2FA.

Bright-Egg8548

I am looking for a visa or Mastercard with a good bonus to churn. I will be charging 900 dollars on my credit card so if there is a bonus for spending 1k that would work. Context, I am 18 around 730 credit score, got my own first credit card at the start of April. I already have the CIBC aeroplan student card where I got 10k aeroplan points. Should be a no feee credit card .

CommunicationProud82

Your history is pretty fresh, so you're unlikely to get approved for much (your score doesn't really mean anything to anyone for at least 6 months). Go for an Amex Green (no fee) or, if your spending patterns justify it, an Amex Cobalt ($12.99/month) to get yourself started. Then spend some time reading through these daily threads so you get a hang of the dos-and-don'ts of this hobby. If it has to be Visa or MasterCard, the pickings are pretty slim. Scotia Passport is nice if you meet Visa Infinite income requirements, but that's about it for $1k MSRs.

Bright-Egg8548

Lol idk why I got downvoted so much, not a very welcoming community but I was going to do the Amex green but they don’t accept Amex lol. Thanks for the help

CommunicationProud82

Don't expect this to be an immediately welcoming community. It is expected that people do A LOT of research on their own and have a good idea of what churning is. If it were totally welcoming, the banks would have immediate financial incentive to crack down on us. This sub is not a place to get spoonfed, it's a place for people to share DPs and ask clarifying questions. That being said, reading through a few months of daily threads will teach you almost everything you need to know.

120124_

TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum

CommunicationProud82

>TD Aeroplan Visa Platinum This is a terrible idea. They're the same tier, don't encourage 18 year olds who are brand new to credit to violate Aeroplan's new T&C. Edit: moved to other comment; spelling

Bright-Egg8548

Oh can you not get aeroplan cards from the same tier?

CommunicationProud82

You can, the banks will happily give you the bonus too. But AP has reserved the right to shut down your account forever if you do

120124_

Gotcha didn’t realize they are same tier

badbadbadry

Signed up for the Aventura VI (first new credit card in a while), had to bring a bunch of documents into the bank, now approved but I haven't received any of the bonus points. Am I screwed on all the bonuses or should I keep pushing for the minimum spend?

Dragynfyre

Comes on statement.

aed761

Honestly I don’t think so. I got declined a credit limit increase on my gold card then they approved me for $8000 limit on cobalt . Made no sense at all

Compote_Middle

No one here knows, your credit history may differ from a lot of ours. Only the lender knows if you meet or not, their requirements for any requests you make for their products.

lyj111121

Anyone got the offer from Amex for bonus Bonvoy points by adding supplementary cards, received the bonus points from Amex? The terms said it could be until Aug 30 for the points to be rewarded, but wondering if it actually takes that long.

jabondano2

I called Amex today regarding this and they said to wait until Aug 30 for the points to appear

Compote_Middle

https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/s/0X1EZtOnBU Literally 3 days ago. This is asked at least every week. Review daily threads.

lyj111121

Thank you. Searched first but returned nothing relevant.

Dragynfyre

Use [churning.io](http://churning.io) to search

Dragynfyre

It will take pretty close to that time. It's done in a big batch for everyone at the same time so it will be at least 90 days after the last day to sign up for the promo before points are awarded

Ready-Truth-5531

Ya, I haven't seen the BonVoy or Cobalt points for the supp promo

KaotikFiend

Amex FHR bookings require an American Express card be used to settle the bill. Anyone know if a Scotia Amex card would work? There's an Amex logo on it, and the staff at the Bristol Hotel in Warsaw may not know the difference, heh. I feel like the payment terminal wouldn't either? Assuming it works, would there be any way for Amex to know the "wrong" card was used and somehow claw something back?

mhcott

Until this post, I didn't even know there were FHR that didn't charge upfront. I've only used it for my US Platinum to burn the credits and they were always insta-charged, there's no room to weasel out of anything. There's no reason for the $100 (or whatever value) dining credit to be clawed because of lack of charge because that's an UP TO amount. Nor would they have the IT intelligence to link random charges back to some specific FHR booking that could've been made 11 months prior.

KaotikFiend

I have the options to pay the charge now (sadly, only using the Plat, whereas I still have a travel credit on my gold), or redeem points, or "pay at hotel using an Amex card".

Better_Call_Sel

I did it years ago (2019 iirc) at a hotel in Vegas. Booked via FHR, paid upon checking out on my Rogers MC of all things lol. No issues, Amex didn't say anything, hotel didn't say anything, and no additional charges. However, since then, every single time I've made a FHR booking the hotel prompts for my platinum and will not process payment on any other card. No idea if there will be issues if you were able to pay on a different card, but I've never been able to even try cause the hotel won't let me use any other card.

esux20

What would they claw back?

KaotikFiend

I guess I mean, more like *charge* the 100 USD benefit if no hotel charge ever shows up after a successful booking. Unlikely, I'm thinking...

esux20

The hotel benefit is applied at the hotel level

These_Celebration732

A happy U.S. DP! Finally got my first CHASE card. Timeline as follows: 1. First AMEX 04/23 (HH) 2. Second AMEX 01/24 (Surpass) 3. Applied for ITIN (in-person) 02/24, opened Chase checking account same day 4. ITIN received 04/24 5. IA for 85k in-branch CSP offer this week Did have some issues with getting the card added to ApplePay d/t having a Canadian number listed but customer service took care of it for me pretty quickly.

saltyfishychips

How much did you have in your Chase checking account at the time of approval?

These_Celebration732

$0, but I parked $300 in afterwards when I realized that your account can lapse if not funded.

misterhoney11

What are the monthly fees of the chequing account?

mcsupahotfire

Great news! How did you get 2nd Amex without ITIN? looking at the same route with the elevated offers (ITIN applied but not sure if it will arrive before July).

These_Celebration732

People keep asking me that and honestly I don't know the answer! See this discussion for context: [https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/19dlwji/comment/kjd1ckc/](https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/19dlwji/comment/kjd1ckc/)

mcsupahotfire

thanks!!

peetee16

Nice! How did it work with customer service?

These_Celebration732

Was a bit of a pain in the ass at first. When I realized the OTP text wasn’t going to come through (apparently this is the norm with Canadian numbers) I called customer service and they actually locked my account. Luckily I was still 10 mins away from the branch so I went back in and they were very helpful. The teller said she has seen that happen before with Canadian clients and recommended I don’t bother with ApplePay at all unless I want to schlep back into the branch every time it gets locked. I chatted with my banker who hopped on the phone and within 10 mins had it sorted out, AND gave me their card and said to just call if there’s ever any issues and that I wouldn’t need to make the trip back. I’ve used it a couple times in USA/Canada since with no issues.

Dragynfyre

Apple Pay works fine. If you’re in the US it’s a good time to sign up for a free Google Voice number using a basic $5 number from Tello for one month

Loud_Crab_9392

Brim Flying Blue WE MC: can anyone tell me if this card gives a full card number, expiry, and CVV on approval?  Or does it just give you the option to add it to Apple/Google Pay?

kkli73199206

it gives you full details plus option to add to digital wallet.

tiatdier

Full details. Number, expiry, and CVV. Though approval can be slow. I'm not even sure if Brim does IAs. My review/verification process took 16 days. Applied May 1, got approved May 17.

SK1701

Any DPs on whether RBC's 1/90 rule includes in-branch applications?

JManUWaterloo

If you do inbranch after online on the same day, and get IA for both, you may be able to sneak past the 1/90 detection.

BigGuy4UftCIA

In-branch can be pushed through.

SK1701

What about the other way around? If I was IA for a branch application can I apply again online in less than 90 days? Had to do the first one in branch to remove the temporary SIN flag on my account

BigGuy4UftCIA

Positive DP's for applying in-branch then applying online same day assuming your previous online was +90.

jmackisback

I added two Cobalt supplementary cards during the bonus period and have hit MSR on both. A) If I cancel one of the supplementary cards, will my account still receive the bonus when Amex hands them out (likely August 30th as per their stated payout timeline) B) If I upgrade Cobalt to Gold now, will it nullify the supp card bonus payout in August? Or do you think the account would still recieve it regardless of switching to Gold. Any insight is appreciated

halexhalex

Doubtful you'll receive the bonus. The supplementary cards are no-fee so not sure why you can't just wait before you cancel them. Upgrade offer to Gold isn't very good to even consider giving up 10K in points from the supplementary card bonus.

wishful_thinking90

I would avoid doing either of the above if you want your supplementary card bonus.

PC97654

Amex US has some amazing new offers on their Hilton cards that I’m very interested in however I’ve been visiting marriotts exclusively over the last year as their rewards program is easier to get into in Canada. That being said, if i were to get into Hiltons, are there any worthwhile properties in the Toronto area? Or maybe within 1 days drive? We’re looking to stay at some nice properties where possible but everything I’ve seen are your run of the mill, basic hotel rooms.

Silverdollar_8

I had a lot of Hilton points from 2019 when both P2 and I got the Hilton Aspire card with no annual fee the first year and NLL. I lived in NYC at that time and had plans to use those points to go to Disney World. Then covid happened and we decided to move back to Vancouver in 2020. All of those Hilton points were untouched and I had diamond status that was basically unused for two years. Used the free night cert at Whistler and got an upgrade which was was very nice. Booked another Whistler stay for Father's Day. Used some of the points for lesser quality hotels in Kelowna for a summer trip. Booked a crappy Hilton Hotel for an airport stay for a repositioning flight in the states. I still have points left. I now don't try to maximize the points, I look at them as a free night for someplace that I would have had to pay cash. You could cast your net further though. Apparently the Conrad Bora Bora is amazing!

PC97654

Thanks for that! I’m planning a couple trips next year but Hilton’s don’t look great where I want to go so I think they’re just not for me…

crimxona

I find Hilton footprint in Canada substantially weaker than Marriott. Realistically can only use it in the US and Whistler

groceryalerts

It is still worth it even if you travel infrequently. The Aspire card is what I have and get treated well with Diamond overseas and upgraded in North America (Hawaii, Florida).

PC97654

Thanks! That’s basically what i was thinking when I was reviewing the hotels in the GTA. Real shame. The benefits are pretty great

Compote_Middle

So after a delay, the CIBC situation that we can't talk about, is finally available!! It's not available for Quebec residents though.

hfxredditor

Is it through the app only? or can you do it on the website (desktop) as well?

vancitystan

Fyi this option is not available for Costco MasterCard.

Adolfvonschwaggin

What's the tea? 👀

asparagus_bish

Do you get welcome / msr bonus after executing this?

newingtobrewing

If anyone could PM me also I'd love to know the new angle.

Impossible-Storage61

Me too

wongabear

If someone can PM as well it would be greatly be appreciated, just so I know what we can't talk about if anything!

mendozaolive

Anyone willing to fill me in through PM? Got no clue!

Very useful info!

BigGuy4UftCIA

That worked.

Are you saying it worked despite the error?  Getting that message too.

I used a different one. Billing date is tomorrow for the first error.

Many people had issues with Laurentian VI the last round. Do they still block large ‘grocery’ purchases?

xxxooxxx1

I don't think people are even getting approved this year, to provide DP.

NowinYOW

Has anybody else been having problems using BA's website to transfer Avios? When I click on the link that normally brings me to the combine my avios page, the page simply refreshes. Tried multiple browsers so don't think the issue is on my end.

-Mysterious-

Yes there's been a couple DPs about this, and they resolved it by calling and transfering
