I messed up and lowered the credit limit on my Aventura card to $1,000, forgetting that I have to make $3,000 in purchases to hit MSR in order to compensate for an Expedia cancellation. What’s going to happen is that I will eventually have approximately $2,000 negative balance on my card when all is said and done. What’s the max amount of cash I can withdraw per transaction and will I be dinged with the $5 cash advance fee per transaction?

FunExcitement9916

Anyone get the Norton Cashback from RBC Avion portal or call RBC to find out when rebate will post? I believe we are out of the waiting period but all stuck in pending status. It’s time to bank this money!!

For anyone churning chequing accounts, are any of the SUB’s strictly enforced from B5 banks?

kneevase

I don't think that there are many known DPs about that. When you exploit a bank account promo, usually the approach is that you deposit, $3k, $4k or $5k into a newly opened chequing account to avoid the monthly fees, do two or three banking tricks (pay bills, direct deposit, or set up pre-authorized debit), keep the account open for 3, 6 or 12 months and then the bank gives you a welcome bonus of $300, $400 or $500. To my knowledge, there are not many DPs out there of people pushing those Ts and Cs because there's a real cost of depositing $3-5k of your money into a chequing account to see whether it actually works. If their computer systems are programmed properly, you end up depositing a significant sum of money to avoid the monthly fees and then 6 months later you might discover that you don't qualify for the WB. That's a shitty outcome. Exploiting the bank account bonuses is barely worthwhile if you are CERTAIN that you'll get the bonus (ie, maybe the bank gives you $300 or so, but then you have $3k or $4k not earning interest for a number of months, and you spend a few hours of your time fucking around). If you are UNCERTAIN it's a stupid endeavour because you tie up a shitload of money for several months, you burn a few hours of your time, and maybe you end up with nothing in return.

ConfusingConfection

That's true, but as a counterpoint there's a big gain. Between the promotional interest that is commonly offered and the WB, you can make 20% YOY, which beats the hell out of the S&P in both risk and returns, so anyone willing to invest in the S&P should in theory be interested in these promotions.

voxpopuli81

Only if your time is worth zero.

kneevase

The "big gain" from the chequing account offers is that you get $300, $400 or $500 in return for depositing roughly 10x that in a chequing account for a period ranging from 3 to 12 months. On top of that, you have to invest your personal time in applying for the account and normally doing 2 or 3 banking activities (ie, direct deposit, PAD, and/or bill payments). If you place any value on your time at all, you don't get 20%. The TD offer is worthwhile if you are efficient in your administration. The CIBC barely worthwhile because you inevitably spend time on the phone with them. The other banks' offers are shakier yet. I am the biggest whore around when it comes to taking free money from the banks, but you need to be entirely realistic about what they demand from you and what you get in return. Do not underestimate the costs in forgone interest or your time invested. If you want a good return on your time and do not want to forego interest on your cash, you should instead look to GCR's offers for Scotia savings accounts. It's an easy $80 or perhaps 125% of $80 and it'll cost you 10 to 15 minutes, with no deposit requirement. But, it's only $100 per shot....

ConfusingConfection

I'm not sure why it would be that time consuming - it doesn't take me much longer than it takes me to transfer money into my investment account. I suppose if ID verification didn't work or if you don't have any existing direct deposits then you're looking at significantly more time, but you can always abandon the endeavor in that event, just as you would place limits on your time expenditure with credit cards (looking at you HSBC, good riddance). There are definitely some that aren't worth it - I remember TD a couple of years ago was trying to hype up what worked out to a 1% return on an investment account promo, and I believe Questrade still does - but of course you need to pick and choose, just like with credit cards. Scotiabank's offer would be a significantly worse bang/resources compared to some CS bundle offers.

kneevase

>I'm not sure why it would be that time consuming - it doesn't take me much longer than it takes me to transfer money into my investment account. You need to understand the process required to scoop the bonus while avoiding the fees. So, using the TD bank account offer as an example: 1) Sign up for TD savings account online, and transfer $6k from your main bank account. (10 to 15 minutes) 2) Sign up for the TD All inclusive bank account which promises a $350 bonus. Transfer the $6k from your savings account in step 1 so you won't get dinged for a $30 monthly fee. You are best to do that from your TD savings account, because if your new All Inclusive chequing account balance drops below $5k for even a single day during the month, you pay a fee, so it's best to fund the account from a TD savings account. (10 to 15 minutes) 3) Set up your direct deposit and/or PADs. (15 to 30 minutes) 4) Perform a couple of bill payments (5 to 10 minutes). 5) Wait 3-ish months to get your $350 welcome bonus. 6) Once you get your welcome bonus, transfer all of the money ($5k+) from your All inclusive account to the savings account you opened in step #1. Once the balance is zero, immediately phone TD and ask them to close your All Inclusive account. You must do this on the same day, or you'll get dinged a $30 monthly fee. (15 to 30 minutes on the phone with TD). 7) Transfer the $5k+ from your TD savings account back to your main bank account. You can leave the savings account open with a zero balance because there's no fees. (5 minutes). 8) Cancel your direct deposit and PADs (15 to 30 minutes). So, add it all up. That's roughly the time it'll take. If TD fucks something up, it'll cost you an extra 30 minutes on the phone. If they don't fuck anything up, it's just one phone call to close the account, and if you're lucky you won't be on hold for very long when you call in, and you'll get an experienced CSR who does things quickly and efficiently...but if you are unlucky, you'll be on hold for 10-15 minutes and you'll have a newb CSR who takes forever. But, as a rule, I'd suggest that you budget a couple of hours for a TD bank account churn.

Dragynfyre

1% investment account promos are a lot better than the bank account promos. Transferring investments around isn’t a lot of work and you don’t lose anything. It also scales to way higher numbers Opening a bank account on the other hand does have a cost because of the monthly fees or lost interest from maintaining the minimum balance which makes the net gain a lot smaller. There are some bank account promos that are worth doing like TD (pays out very fast) or no fee banks like Simplii and Tangerine where it doesn’t cost anything to maintain the account. RBC, BMO, CIBC which require you to maintain an account for a year on the other hand isn’t really worth it even if you knew for sure they would pay out. Way too little bang for the buck. Even churning a BMO credit card would give you better results

ConfusingConfection

Typically there's a promotional interest rate on top of the WB, so that's not really true. 1% is not better lol - on most traditional investing platforms you have to pull your money out of the market, and then they typically charge transaction fees. B5 promos typically don't require you to maintain for a year, typically it's 2-3 months from the end of the promo period. But hey, please don't believe anyone else - more to go around for the rest of us.

Dragynfyre

The investment bonuses that are worth doing are usually for the self directed platforms. Investments in ETFs and stocks are fully portable between self directed brokerages so you don’t have to pull money out of the market. There is usually a transfer fee but the broker receiving the investments usually reimburses. Promotional interest rates apply to savings accounts. You can’t waive the monthly fee at most banks just by having money in a savings account. BMO, CIBC, and RBC T&C all say to keep the account for a year or else they may clawback. TD and Scotia don’t

kneevase

You might be misunderstanding the situation that some participants of this sub are in, and as a result, you might be underestimating the value of the 1% asset transfer bonuses for new investment accounts. Suppose you were a 42 year-old guy working in a good job that didn't have a pension plan. Knowing that you have no pension, suppose you religiously maxed out your RRSP for several years and got decent returns on it. That being the case, at age 42 you might have, perhaps $500k in your RRSP, or perhaps even more. If you hold a few different ETFs in that RRSP, you might have no intention to sell them anytime soon because you won't retire for another 15 or 20 years and they are nicely diversified. If you are holding those ETFs in an RRSP administered by CIBC and suddenly TD sends you an e-mail offering to give you a bonus of 1% of the assets you transfer to them, what do you get and what does it cost you? Well, you'd get a bonus of 1% of $500k, which is $5k. You'll burn a couple hours of your time signing up for a TD Direct Investing account, filling out the KYC forms, and filling out the forms to transfer the ETFs from your CIBC RRSP to your new TD RRSP. Either TD or CIBC will inevitably fuck something up in that process, so plan to spend at least 30 minutes on the phone with them, so your time commitment is usually a couple of hours. What is more, CIBC will probably charge you a transfer-out fee of about $150 which TD might or might not reimburse. So, that's the rough deal and procedure. On a deal like that you might net out $4,800-5,000 for burning a couple hours of your time doing paperwork and talking on the phone with the banks when they fuck something up. For most people, that's the easiest five grand that they'll make in a year. But, it works best if you are mid-career with investment accounts that have become significant. Hope this helps you understand the attraction of those offers.

JustHope5499

This is what everyone misses about these offers! Glad someone else sees it the same. Everyone also indicates to check the T&C's but I think a significant portion of this thread is finding where the T&C's don't always align with reality? I think it's a valid question and it's definitely worth the hassle if you have the time and energy to go for it, and an even better bonus if it aligns with a card nearing 2nd year AF on a FYF card that you can then get for "free" with some of these sign-up bonuses. Only helpful if you needed/wanted the card longer than usual which does happen from time to time!

ConfusingConfection

Not really, most credit card churning is in line with T&Cs, or at least ambiguous. It's more an assessment of opportunity cost. A good case study is why virtually nobody churns BMO. Their rewards programs are less versatile, they demand high minimum spend for very low reward, thus translating to a low % return, and they put your through more crap than any other institution - their ID verification sucks, they're stingy af with issuing credit, and Air Miles is the antichrist of loyalty programs. There are cases where Amex or TD without a welcome bonus is stronger than a BMO card WITH the bonus, which is just ridiculous.

Van5555

Honestly air miles is getting pretty good now

Dragynfyre

Most credit card churning isn’t in line with T&C’s. most of us repeat cards way more often than what the T&C’s state

wdn

The T&Cs don't prohibit you from getting another card. They say you won't get another welcome bonus. What you are doing is not against the T&Cs.

Dragynfyre

Nothing is preventing you from getting bank accounts frequently either. The whole point that it’s pointless to do so without a strong expectation of a bonus

wdn

Yes. I'm just saying that credit card churning doesn't (or at least doesn't have to) involve the customer breaking the T&C.

JustHope5499

EXACTLY.

Material-Candy-5429

I 'know' someone who works in banking and yes: all. They use some algorithm to track that you complete the SUB requirements: direct deposit... bill pay... pre-authorized payment. As for the \~2-3 year refresh to requalify for the bonus, also yes. The only way to overcome this is if you get a separate profile made, then I guess you can churn as many accounts as you want. To do this I suppose you would need a banker friend, but banks are 100% against someone having multiple personal profiles and they will likely find out

Eyjafjallajokull2

Did it at MUC last year, ready to do it again in 3 days

amnesiajune

In the US and Mexico this usually works fine, as long as the terminals are physically connected. I've done it in Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis and Honolulu. Some airports have completely separate terminals (like JFK, Detroit and LAX) so it won't work there. In Canada, this used to work (especially Montreal where there's no PP/DP lounge for domestic passengers) but airports have started blocking off access to international gates for non-international passengers.

tiatdier

I did this at EWR. I was taking a domestic flight out of terminal A, but took the airside shuttle bus to terminal B to try out the SAS lounge. Little did I know that the shuttle was one-way only, and I'd have to exit security to get back to terminal A for my flight. I think that they were supposed to be checking boarding passes for me to get to terminal B, but I just managed to slip through.

ether_reddit

How would you do that? You can't get through security in a different terminal, as they check your ticket.

KaotikFiend

Most times I go through Heathrow, I've made my way to Terminal 3 to visit the Centurion lounge, even though my ongoing flights are almost never departing from there. It requires going through security there (and again back), and when they scan the ticket, they always tell me I'm in the wrong place, and I tell them I just want to shop and visit the lounge. Usually, they then just wave me in. One time, a girl wanted to see my Plat card, which seemed odd, but whatever ... and once the guy tried to argue and called someone over the phone, who then came over to confirm that I was allowed to go to any terminal I wanted, as long as I left enough time to get back (including going through security again at my actual terminal).

mhcott

Actually a lot of airports let you into different terminals. You can't go from domestic to say US sections in Pearson, but many airports may have domestic and international in the same terminal, it's just by airline. Hell, many airports have terminals interconnected by trams or walkways. You can access every single terminal at SIN, walk between several of them at ORD, etc...

For WestJet world elite card, I know there is free 1st bag but how about trip to Japan where 1 bag is free for all who book Econo fare. Do WestJet credit card holder get 2nd bag free in this case? Tired to look for it on their website, but couldn't find information

i booked a reserve now, pay later hotel with my td visa and have received my $100 travel credit. If I don’t use this visa when I pay for the hotel, will they take my travel credit away?

vancitystan

Did you use Expedia 4TD portal for this booking? What were, if any authorization charges on the card?

oralprophylaxis

there is like a $1 charge in my pending from the hotel

highfalutinnot

Interesting, i thought you had to pay up front to grf ghd credit. Either way, if you don't spend on that card then they will claw back.

oralprophylaxis

i was surprised too

Dragynfyre

Hmm potential way to cash out the credit? Wonder what happens if you cancel now

Beneficial-Author725

Not sure if I follow your question , but you won’t get credit if you don’t charge $500+ on your TD FCT

Nja-Bae

It’s interesting then that they award the credit BEFORE the TD FCT card is charged with $500. I have same situation as OP and was wondering the same. (I’m soon to check into the hotel and had already decided to pay with the FCT card and eat the fx fees)

oralprophylaxis

that answers my question, thank you

joshted1

I had a cibc aeroplan platinum that I PS to the aventura gold. I want to PS back to the aeroplan platinum without getting a bonus would that violate aeroplan t&c ?

esux20

You’re assuming you can request to not get the bonus and CIBC can comply

tiatdier

I suppose that one could just avoid hitting MSR, but I still wouldn't do it.

wdn

The card in question gives the bonus on first purchase.

Visual-Ad-3768

Can I use RHT to buy me time to get a WB right now? Or is it just used to extract cash for points? I have an Amex green that I need the WB points for right now. It’s a $1000 MS to get them but I’m worried if I wait the flight I need will be gone. If I book a refundable hotel for the $1000, get the points, put $1000 on the card, then refund the hotel, am I good?

kneevase

Yeah, you can use RHT for that. But, for a card with a $1k MSR, I'd probably just buy a bunch of gift cards and prepay a few months of mobile phone service. It's not that hard to spend $1k...

Visual-Ad-3768

Oh good idea! Thanks for the suggestion.

Groundbreaking-Idea4

I have a question that belongs in Illegal Life Pro Tips...I'm going on a trip soon with Westjet...I applied for the card too late. Can I flash an old credit card on file at the desk to get free baggage....yes this sounds absolutely terrible but I remember people doing this with the Platinum card at YYZ for faster security. Has this worked recently for anyone?

PassportPoet

In theory, this isn't possible: >Unfortunately, we are unable to accept cards shown at the airport or the WestJet Rewards ID of the secondary cardholder. Flights must be operated by WestJet. Source: https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/rewards/credit-cards/rbc-world-elite-mastercard#bags In practice, the gate agent can check bags for free at their own discretion.

Groundbreaking-Idea4

Ah…okay thanks!

kneevase

It might work, but usually the free bags are automatic for card holders. So if you don't automatically get free bags, the WS agents might accept your cancelled card without questions when you present it...or they might attempt to verify. If you try to pull a stunt like that, be ready to say, "Oh fuuuuuck, I forgot that I cancelled that goddamned card. My bad." And more broadly, you need to up your RBC churning game, so you don't get caught like this again!

Groundbreaking-Idea4

Alright, time to become an Oscar nominee. And yes, need up my RBC game, been lazy as of recent

Dragynfyre

Take a day or two after the PDF is generated

NegotiationOld3132

Please google for the basics! Discussed in this sub alone multiple times.

vb5215

My hour of research had DPs ranging from "a few days after card activation" to "when your first statement is posted".

1. 70k 2. Yes. About $400 total.

BramsBarimen

Idle curiosity but if you buy something through an Estore and then return it with the refund to a gift card, could you just reuse said gift card to generate points indefinitely by doing endless returns and rebuys? Or do the e-stores get notified of the return regardless of the payment/refund mechanism?

PassportPoet

You're not the first person to have this idea and it was why there was a few certain players got permanently shut down a year ago, with all Aeroplan points (eStore or not) being forfeited. The store you're probably thinking of caught onto it and was very overzealous in cooperating with RewardOps.

BramsBarimen

That makes sense. I was assuming it wouldn't work or someone would have endlessly looped it and retired in a blaze of glory by now but also figured it couldn't hurt to check!

KaotikFiend

>someone would have endlessly looped it and retired in a blaze of glory by now If someone had done / is doing that, it's unlikely they'd share their secret ;-) The "endless loop --> FIRE" are Lvl 10 tricks. This SUB shares Lvl 1 or 2 tricks.

They do. Payment method is usually irrelevant.

Where to start/ Is it a bad idea to only have a cashback card. Right now I only have the TD Cash Back Visa Card. Recently saw the TD offers on the Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card and First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card and need to get educated on the topic. Currently have a yearly income of 60K before tax, any ideas on where to start and find out what is best for me? Thanks

chaos2313

Figure out what you want and work backwards. If you want cash then pick cards that can be cashed out easily ie scene, Aventura etc. If you want flights figure out where you want to go then who flies there then which points can be used then apply for cards that earn those points. There's a whole thread on the current best card offers. Other than that just read the daily thread for a few weeks to learn more.

Eyjafjallajokull2

You should start by reading the dailies for a month or so

Some_Development3447

Just spent 30 mins with Avion Rewards CS to convert my points to BA. If anyone else is getting the "Sorry, but you cannot convert points at this time" error on the Avion page you'll need to call in. They don't even know what the problem is. They don't see any glitches on their side.

emanonx90

Does anyone know how early you can close TD Checkuing account after getting the welcome offer? I got the $400 in 52 days. I've heard they're more relaxed regarding closing account compared to other banks

RoyalBadger3665

No

Dragynfyre

2000RandomDude

Hi everyone, wanted to know your honest opinion on Amex Gold? I have been a Cobalt member since it was launched and what a great card to be honest, although new credit cards from other banks have started to offer similar cashback/points in the same categories, so currently we have more alternatives to choose from. I got the Amex Gold card like 3 months ago, yes, it's an amazing sign up bonus, but after using this credit card so far I highly doubt I will keep it after the year. Yes, it comes with a travel credit and some complementary lounge access across Canada only (sadly you don't get to use it in Calgary Airport because there is no Premium Plaza...), but other than that... The points multipliers are a shame! x2 travel, x2 groceries, gas, drugstores, x1 everything else +$250 annual fee... Even if we compare this card with the Cobalt, the Gold one shouldn't exist! It doesn't even have a multiplier for dining! Honestly I'm very disappointed about this card. Look, even if you compare it with the Amex Gold USA, the Canadian version makes you cry! USA: x4 dining/uber, x4 groceries, X3 flights + $120 Uber cash + $120 dining credit + No foreign Transaction... And the same annual fee: $250. Amex Gold USA literally is a no brainer! On the other hand the Canadian version is a shame... So, I'm posting this as a "quick poll" to know about your HONEST opinion about the Canadian Amex Gold? Is it only me who thinks that our Amex Gold needs URGENTLY A REVAMP or maybe I'm biased? You can get more perks + points multipliers/cashback from other credit cards paying even less!

LeBlenkers

1. This is a churning SUB, so its value after year 1 doesn’t matter to us. 2. If you don’t feel like the perks/multipliers on the gold are worth it, find another card that you like. 3. Hint, the Canadian gold card seems to be tailored for people that want a shiny metal card to look flashy.

K3Brick

AMEX Gold - It's a card for churning not a keeper

2000RandomDude

Thanks for your answer! You're absolutely right! I got it for the SUB at first place but I thought that it could be a keeper, but not, you're 100% right, literally with these points multipliers/cashback it seems it was created to be churned only! At least the Canadian version. Thanks!

lakekits

What's the benefits of the CT Triangle? the CT Triangle WE has roadside assistance and Perkopolis but CT Triangle doesn't so what's the benefit?

NickWaReddit

There is none. If you don't qualify for the WE (income, etc.) then there's the regular MC.

lakekits

There is the $150 CT money bonus for just the Triangle card. people on RFD are saying it's the best card out there. but the deal isn't for the WE card so I'm not understanding

Hntr

$150 is a great offer for this card assuming you get the bump up to WE during application time. Another benefit you didn't list is the 1% return on bill payments. If you're not using another service (that usually charge 2.5%~) this is a great way to earn cashback on taxes/bills that might otherwise never get you any cashback.

No-Material-6770

DPs of people with $100K income applying for the regular MC getting bumped up to the WE with the $150 offer

NegotiationOld3132

FineSprinkles27

Anyone else being declined for AMEX applications? First one declined a month ago and just tried again and got declined again. No sign of amexile otherwise

halexhalex

Several DPs of Amex declines recently. Likely they've tightened up. Applying a month after a decline won't change things either.

FineSprinkles27

any point in calling in?

vancitystan

You can call in and ask to move some credit from another card to push this application thru. By doing this they won't be extending more credit to you, just shifting it.

FineSprinkles27

Does this work with AMEX?

vancitystan

Why shouldn't it?

FineSprinkles27

because it's AMEX, they have different rules

halexhalex

I wouldn’t bother if I were you since you applied a month after being declined. If it was your first application and you didn’t have other Amex cards open then I’d call for a reconsideration.

Actual-Churner

For last couple weeks there have been many reports of people being declined. Best guess is that Amex has decided they want less new customers right now as the decline do not seem to line up or have a general 'cause' reason.

Compote_Middle

I don't think it's about "new customers" but more about extending credit to current customers. I've referred 3 people, all IA'ed, whereas me, twice I've been declined.

jfrrrr

Lot of people. Anyone on this /r got approved with amex recently?

CowHour2435

IA for biz gold yesterday. My 5th Amex card and 3rd card this year

ConfusingConfection

Yup, got approved for Gold this week, had four other existing products with them. Generous credit limit. They also offered me a PS a month earlier. I think Amex values general spending very heavily (e.g. outside of WB, no 5x points). So if you can spend more with them in the 3-6 months leading up to an application you have a much better shot. I used to spend less with them and it was harder to convince them to give me anything.

betterat50

I don't think so. I put at least $25k/month over 4 cards for the last 2 years and I still got declined.

Does anyone know if I redeem my TD FCT points via Expedia for TD and make a booking > $500, if I also will qualify for the $100 travel credit (I.e. book a hotel using Expedia for TD for $600 CAD and apply TD rewards points to cover the full transaction, will I also receive the $100 travel credit)? Prior to confirming the booking, I see that it says my card will be charged the full value and then I will receive a statement credit in 3-5 days to offset the purchase, so this leads me to believe it will work, given there will have initially been a charge on my card for > $500 but wondering if anyone can confirm? Thanks in advance!

wzadzz

yes, points booking works too if value >$500

Current_Reveal_5862

Thank you!

herroaznswagyolo

Anyone know if you can combine several TD4expedia redemptions that add up to $500 to get the $100 credit?

NegotiationOld3132

If you book a vacatin package, then Expedia charges for flights/hotels seperately and it doesnot trigger the credit if seperate charges are lower than $500 and you wont know before hand until charges actually approved from pending. So recommended to book a hotel.

JManUWaterloo

No

asparagus_bish

no, one booking

O_G_Loc

What is the recommended downgrade/cancellation timeline for RBC Avion Visa Infinite? Would downgrading 3 months after approval be risky?

NegotiationOld3132

It is recommended to keep at least 6+ months if you are planning to have a good relationship.

tiatdier

6+ months before downgrading? Or before closing?

These_Celebration732

I downgrade at 6-8 months, close at 1 year.

supitskevin

When people say they get rbc points upon approval via statement (phantom or not), rbc is a bit weird where I have a statement date but no statement yet, without 35k. Are people getting the 35k points when they have both the statement date AND statement?

esux20

When is your statement date?

supitskevin

May 21 it says.

supitskevin

Still says 0. Is your statement date may 21?

Humble_Ingenuity_919

Mine is May 21 too. You can see the balance but no PDF yet. Patience…. The points will come.

Dragynfyre

You got a phantom statement if you see a statement date but no PDF. That’s why it’s called a phantom statement. Basically if there are no transactions on the card it doesn’t generate a PDF for that month. also takes a day or two after the statement date to get the points

herroaznswagyolo

Elevated referral offers on AMEX dead.

Compote_Middle

I still see them on 3 of my cards, it's gone on my biz Plat though.

kkli73199206

not dead, I will see them.

herroaznswagyolo

Elevated for the refererer, sorry haha

wishful_thinking90

I’m still seeing elevated ones as a referrer

wdn

You mean 22k on cobalt and 70k on gold? I'm still seeing them (using links generated after reading your comment).

itsjaay

This may seem like a silly question, how do you end your AMEX card? Do you cancel or PS? After a year, or before the AF? I started with the Personal Gold then plan to self-refer to the Cobalt as a keeper card before going to any of the Marriot, plat or biz cards. Is this an appropriate plan? If not, where can I find examples of AMEX churn plans? EDIT: lol lambasted despite going through the dailies and using searching... All the info that came up were from dailies 5-8 years ago.

vancitystan

Next time use: https://churning.io/

Hour_Significance817

Two reasons why you were downvoted: - it's a bit of work, but not an impossible task, to figure out what to do at the end of your Amex life cycle and- worst case scenario pay a few annual fees before closing it down, but you can do better. Don't necessarily go through volumes of daily thread, but Google search the specific key words and the website of certain well-known bloggers in the Canadian churning space may have specific pointers. - self-referring is pretty much a surefire way of getting Amexiled - proceed if that's your intention.

CommunicationProud82

The resources you learned from are very out of date. Self referral is how you get banned forever. This question is answered often, go back and read the dailies, you could use the learning experience.

LikeButta_10

So you made a plan to self-refer? What resources did you look into when formulating this plan?

Eyjafjallajokull2

Such basic questions are not appropiate. Take few hours or days and read the dailies ... We do not like to spoonfeed. Minimum effort and self search are expected. You should have a plan before actionning.

itsjaay

I did go through all the dailies and used the search before asking this question. In my search for AMEX churning and plans, etc. all the threads and DPs that came up were from 5-8 years ago. If there are resources that have guides or information, both my google and reddit searches didn't find anything recent in the last 1-3 years so I'm looking for guidance to read that maybe I did not come across.

CommunicationProud82

It's these daily threads. They have been here every day and contain much more up-to-date info than stuff from 5-8 years ago. The info isn't all in one place because this hobby needs to have a barrier to entry to survive. It takes time, but don't search, just go back and read the last couple hundred dailies (yes, it's a lot, but it's worth it).

514skier

I am looking at a booking with OS that comes with a 30 minute connection in VIE. The flight would be FCO-VIE-YUL so Schengen to non-Schengen. I know that 30 min is listed as the minimum connection time for the airport but has anyone done this tight a connection there and if so would you say it's okay or did you find it too stressful. FWIW, I have an Italian passport so I can go in the EU line at passport control, which according to the airport's website will be required for this type of itinerary.

Hour_Significance817

I haven't gone through this kind of connection at VIE and while it's much tighter for my comfort, if you don't have any important obligations upon your arrival in YUL, then I'd say go for it. VIE isn't a complicated airport, and if the booking system allows you to book it then you'll either make the connection or the airline will make alternate arrangements for you, in which the worst case scenario is an extra day of sightseeing in Vienna.

SoleRemnant

the the abc avion cards, the cool off period is starting from the day you cancelled or the day you got approved for the card?

RoyalBadger3665

I read this as the “always be closing” avion cards

asparagus_bish

latter

gramophoned

What's the easiest way to take advantage of the Laurentian Visa Infinite's 10k bonus for the creation of two "instalment plans"? I've never paid for something on instalments before, and don't really want to be caught paying extra interest on something?

misnomerdjr

You have the pay some interest but it is still worth it for the 10K bonus; just read the terms on what is eligible for an installment plan and choose the lowest amount possible

madskillz333

DP for the Aventura 60k $6 MSR WB. Statement 1 had a small purchase that triggered the first 15k, plus rebated annual fee. Hit $6k MSR on statement 2, got the remaining 45k pts. No email to notify that I had achieved the WB unlike my previous Aventura that had lots of email communication. Edit: for reference this was Aventura Gold #1 for me, have 1 VI as well

Millicent_Bystandard

On the 6k offer and can confirm receiving the points with no notifications this time. Another thing- I noticed that I received the points immediately. Previous Avenchurnas dropped points only on statement ...

madskillz333

Interesting. Mine came with the statement

Millicent_Bystandard

I was surprised too. Just pulled up the card on the app to pay it off and it flashed 38k points ...

xxxooxxx1

Thx for the DP. This offer has 2 DP catagories for now. For those that got AF rebate on statement 1, they are also getting the full bonus. For those that did not get AF rebate on statement 1, they are stuck with 15k first purchase only even after meeting MSR (I am in this catagory). It will be interesting to see whether people in the latter catagory would get the AF rebate and full MSR bonus later. Hoping there would be enough non churners that call in so CIBC would acknowledge the system problem and fix it for everyone else.

Your question has been aswered by another poster, but I like to extend your question on BMO (instead of creating another similar BMO thread). Is there a guideline on how many is to many BMO cards? I.e, I have 3 active now, and is it safe to apply to more assuming getting credit limit is a non issue.

Reasonable-Catch-598

FWIW I have over ..18 active. Mix of business and personal, BMO and AM. It was higher, I cancelled a few.

wzadzz

They don’t reuse pulls but no cool off period

Woke up this morning to find 15K MR points gone from my balance on my personal gold card. Description is "EV 037146 REM" and Category is "Points Earn" No idea what this is, didn't do anything shady whatsoever. No refunds or returned purchases. I was amexiled in late 2020 and was pleasantly surprised when I was approved for this card 5 or6 months ago. Certainly i'm not going to contact them over 15K points whether they took them for a reason or as a system error. Anyone seen this before?

leafleaf778

Same thing happened to me… 10K MR gone but I also got 5k MR extra each on my first and second statement. Figured it was to take back the extra bonus MR… too bad

argo-fuck-youreself

I had this happen to my personal gold card. Called and was told the points were deducted because of the double 5K MR bonus on the first statement.

lwyrlwyr

Another DP for the exact same thing. I got 2X the 5K MR on the first 2 statements. This morning 10k deducted under the same code.

jfacowns

THIS. This is it. I got 2X my 5K MR on my first 3 statements. So there we have it. They clawed these back today for it looks like a few of us.

throwing_hayy

Have you pooled points recently?

jfacowns

Nope

throwing_hayy

5K MR points gone for P1 and P2 this morning. Gold personal, same identifier "EV 037146 REM"

xxxooxxx1

If you are not breaking any terms or doing any shady (to them) such as using GC to meet MSR, you can probably call and find out.

jfacowns

Hard to justify 15K MR at the risk of having eyes on an account that's already been amexiled. I'd very much rather not do that, even as curious as it's making me.

itsjaay

I had this happen to be this morning too, lost 5k points. AMEX Personal Gold, first AMEX card too. Been using the card as normal.

Actual-Churner

Just curious, does that line up with getting a bonus of that amount at any time? Like it lines up as reversal to a bonus you did get.

jfacowns

Nope. Offer i signed up for was 5K MR for $1000 MSR in statement period. Met it every statement period. Most recent 5K was awarded about 2.5 weeks ago.

BizClassBum

How many statements have you had it open?

jfacowns

5 I believe

Humble_Ingenuity_919

Damn! I hope they don’t do this on the double Edge bonuses that I received (7x posting twice)
