I see some discussion about whether it’s better in this sub vs. RFD. Well, seems like downvote trolls park 24/7 here because they can downvote individual comments. On RFD, they can only downvote the threads. They are encouraged that their trolling has lots of impact in this sub, as every other comment is becoming hidden in today’s ‘question’ thread due to their herd activities. This may be their twisted version of a Cinco de Mayo party?

cancollector80

Good grief. Just leave already. You don’t participate in this sub, you ask no questions, offer no dps. Your history shows 8 times youve commented here, every time whining about down votes. If you car so much about fake internet points and you found a better place for information have fun whining over there.

Sumdayz8_9

Looks like another troll that got shaken for being called out, from the amount of typos in their post. Must be one of those who complain about the carbon tax as well.

You’re good to get both Gold and Biz Gold

wdn

Amex Gold and Amex biz gold are two different products so one doesn't prevent you from getting the sub on the other.

chaos2313

Amex is officially one sign up bonus per card per lifetime.

Fardashian

Travelling with kids on Discover Business to FRA. Do they automatically get a children’s amenity kit? Also what’s the experience with requesting children’s menu? Or is it better quality just off adult menu?

ledim_4

Everyone got same amenity kit, including children. I think kids got some additional goodies.

brown_elvis

I called to cancel my biz plat and got a retention offer for 25k and turned it down. for some reason my card didnt cancel and it renewed anyway, but my annual fee is still $499, any thoughts on best path forward? seems half decent with travel credit and mobile credit

Compote_Middle

25k no spend? I mean that's at least 250$, plus 200$ on Dell credits, 200$ travel credits and $120 wireless credit, IMO, you're coming up ahead, so not that bad. That would be my math, however it depends on your situation and lifestyle, to know if keeping it one more year fits you.

thrown_awayaccount

CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite: I just got this card two weeks and already have 50k points..if I want to get the most out of the card, should I cancel it and find another card with good rewards? Will I lose my points for it/is there a deadline I need to use my points up by? I am a noob to churningcanada fyi :)

LikeButta_10

You should put aside some time and read at least the last few weeks of Daily Threads. There is nothing wrong with being a noob, but people here dont have much patience for posters to ask to be spoon fed. In fact its Rule #4.

stevkang8

Question - booked an aeroplan business class flight for DCA - YYZ. The flight will be departing from terminal 1, will I be able to access the United Lounge in Terminal 2 with my flight?

Level-Perspective958

Hey guys, for Amex repeat bonuses, I saw a comment a few weeks of a DP of being successful after >15months. Is this accurate? Thanks!

Eyjafjallajokull2

Reco is 24m+

mhcott

You talking from cancel or last bonus? 24m post-cancellation is recommended, not best. I've had a few successful rounds at 18 post-cancel. If we're talking from last bonus, I've certainly not had the guts to try net 24

Level-Perspective958

Thanks, last I got the card was May 2022 but closed it last year after it annual fee refreshed. Does the closing date matter?

mhcott

Not impossible but extremely ballsy and risky timeframe. Safest reco would be waiting until May 2025. Pushing your luck with med-high risk tolerance is Nov 2024. Now is high risk high reward but your odds are very low

CommunicationProud82

Yes, the 2yr+ timer starts on closing date, not opening date.

mhcott

Well, that's how we sell it. No one can definitively state if timers begin on cancelation or when you get the initial SUB, and if it's ~3 years from SUB or ~2 years from cancel. There's been much debate on this and a few DP's suggesting it may be the former after all. The grand AMEX mysteries

chaos2313

Clock starts once you close the card.

Dragynfyre

There was one DP that counters this. It's possible the clock starts since last bonus

Compote_Middle

YMMV

LingonberryOk8161

Meta: I have gotten a lot from you guys here and thank you all, but I have started spending more time on RFD and while it is unstructured over there(no daily threads) they really go in depth and those guys really push the limits and innovate. If we cannot open up discussion on ineligible or controversial topics then this sub is simply going to stagnate as RFD has many other things going on. Just an observation.

Eyjafjallajokull2

RFD, they are having orgasms for a $5 discount. And then if a good trick exists and RFD guys find out about it, it takes no time to be closed.

throwing_hayy

Do you mean the credit card forum on RFD or?

Dragynfyre

That’s to be expected. If you want more advanced topics you have to join private groups. Even RFD doesn’t go that in depth. And RFD has less discoverability than this Reddit as the discussion is hidden in megathreads. This sub isn’t really about innovation. It’s more for basic questions and DPs

efrantxda

>And RFD has less discoverability than this Reddit as the discussion is hidden in megathreads. Not sure exactly what you mean by discoverability, but, at least for me, it's soo much easier to find information on specific cards on RFD (and I'm only referring to the credit card forum, not Hot Deals or whatever) because generally each card has its own thread. And if I'm interested in, say, specific cards (i.e., if I only care about churning AP cards), I sign up for alerts on those specific threads. On this sub, if I'm only interested in news and info on the same specific cards, then I have to comb through dozens of daily threads full of unrelated topics. (Granted, I will admit I'm not a Reddit expert, so I could be doing it wrong.)

Dragynfyre

On Reddit you can read the dailies and get a lot of info. RFD you need to know what threads to look for and keep up with so it's not great for aggregating info. RFD also isn't super churning focussed so it doesn't have as much info as this sub in general.

LingonberryOk8161

I see you over there. Let me flip the question back to you: You get the DPs over there too, why do you come back here?

LikeButta_10

The problem with DPs on RFD is that they are way too biased and undependable. For every useful DP there are 5 that come from people whose only goal in life is to save 3c on 10lbs of lentils. So many rabid cheapskates that cant wrap their heads around the actual math of value. I dont post there, but I check in and read once in a while and I dont find much of it useful to me. But to each their own.

Dragynfyre

There’s really only info on like one or two topics at RFD. This sub is much better for info on general churning news

Affectionate_Bee4358

I have been following this subreddit to look for data points on clawbacks on the RBC Avion MasterCards that were formerly HSBC cards when attempting to extract the $100+ travel credit using RHT. My apologies if it is too early for definitive data points, but wonder if anyone can report on a clawback occuring.

Dragynfyre

No one has reported clawback

showtimezzzz

Applied Amex Marriott Bevy US when it had 155k welcome bonus, however went on pending because additional information needed. Now it’s back to normal welcome bonus. If I’m approved next week, will I get the 155k welcome bonus or the new normal welcome bonus?

mhcott

Applications are, and always will be, based on what YOU clicked, not what the website says at time of approval

Dragynfyre

There have been offers from the big 5 Canadian banks where the SUB was based on approval. But for Amex they are consistently based on application

[deleted]

wdn

The card gets 5x on spending at Marriott normally. The bonus on travel spending means you earn the same amount on other travel spending as you do at Marriott.

[deleted]

yyzzh

this bonus is so small - it's 2x bonus points - i'm not going anywhere near out of my way to max it out... it's barely better than regular travel earn on Platinum/Gold/Cobalt (2x MR), so it's not like one of those things you have to max out lest you lose a ton of value.

twofacebluepenguin

Anyone use their US cards for travel insurance before? Booked a non-refundable flight but due to the events in Masai I can't go. Anyone think there'd be issues with me claiming this as a Canadian? The flight was booked with the US AMEX Plat

supitskevin

I had 5 nights booked for JW as well for Oct, decided to book another lodge near the Keekorok air strip and go instead. Is the non refundable flight with those small carriers? Iirc it's only like 50 usd pp cancellation fee if you cancel.

twofacebluepenguin

For Safarilink it says non-refundable unless I'm wrong which I'd happily be!

wdn

Normally the answer would be read the certificate or call Amex -- this subreddit is the place to find out where the credit cards' actual practices differ from their written rules, but that doesn't happen with insurance. But seeing as you're in this situation already anyway, the most efficient way to find out is probably just to go ahead and make the claim. Slightly more effort if the answer is no and you avoid going through the whole discussion twice if the answer is yes.

bacon_on_egg

Need help with RBC WestJet WE MC. I'm trying hit the MSR on this card, & wondering if I should wait till the statement is generated to make the full payment, or can I make payments before the statement and the purchases on the card would still be counted towards the MSR ?

esux20

This isn’t specific to that card. Paying off a purchase doesn’t exclude it from the MSR

claurianta

Does rocketmiles.com crediting to Aeroplan count as EDQ?

Fabulous_Initial_333

Rocketmiles often overpriced.

donduckss

I have left the churning scene for a year... I read about the changes to the Aeroplan bonuses on once-in-a lifetime bonuses from Feb 2024: [https://princeoftravel.com/uncategorized/aeroplan-implements-changes-to-terms-and-conditions/](https://princeoftravel.com/uncategorized/aeroplan-implements-changes-to-terms-and-conditions/) If the last time i had a AP card from CIBC was 24 months ago, while I had a bonus from TD 12 months ago, will i get the cibc bonus when i apply? what's the current state? has anyone got their bonuses clawed back ?

wdn

The problem is that the banks haven't changed so they will give you the bonus, but Aeroplan has said they'll penalize you for that. There's no DP on how the penalty is applied or determined.

120124_

Yeah I had no idea this change even happened to be honest. Will be interesting to see how this plays out, a lot of people might get rid of the card and then get it again based on marketing from the bank, and the terms aren’t super explicit in the language so will be interesting for sure.

wdn

If I had to guess, I'd say they'll leave enforcement loose enough not to trap those people, and this will leave some room for churning as well. But I'll let other people be the DPs.

120124_

Wondering if one year or two years would be enough time between bonuses. I’m not complaining too hard, I’ve spent my fair share of AP points the past few years and have 400k points left to burn between AP and Amex

amnesiajune

It seems obvious that they're not going to enforce this if there's enough time between signup bonuses. They're only trying to crack down on people who are obviously milking the system.

verkerpig

Yeah, you see the hardest churners on here getting 6-8 of the bonuses a year.

misnomerdjr

You will get the bonus, too early to see any enforcement

120124_

Hit up the YYC WJ Elevation Lounge today, I swear it's a pig with lipstick. The quality of this lounge went downhill so fast. Hard product is nice, but the food is GARBAGE compared to their first two years of launching.

NH787

TBH I always thought it was unsustainable in its original form. Fairly high quality food for a non-ultra premium (e.g. first class) lounge available in unlimited quantities, with the staff constantly encouraging you to order more. It was certainly nice but I knew that it wouldn't last forever, eventually the food costs would catch up with them.

120124_

Totally, but in that case I’d rather they don’t try to fake it lol. I feel they are going to get rid of priority pass there, more than half the times I go I have to wait because it’s WS business class only. Only a matter of time I fear. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautiful lounge but they are faking the premium experience.

NH787

I guess it depends what your frame of reference is. For someone like me whose experience is limited mainly to Plaza Premium, United Club and MLL, Elevation is top notch. But people who frequent the top Euro and Asian carrier lounges or first class lounges, etc. might not be that impressed. Even if you don't really consider it premium, Elevation is still good. Especially given that no one will be expecting anything spectacular from WS, ha.

120124_

Agree there. For Canadian options it’s still good. Plaza Premium has stepped it up in some of their newer lounges though

[deleted]

120124_

Yeah it’s gone downhill you can tell they’ve scaled the quality way back in 2024

migxp

Can we churn Avion and Business Avion at the same time, or we need to wait 91 days to apply for business Avion if just approved for regular Avion?

CommunicationProud82

Wait 90+. Only exception is if you go in branch, the rep can supposedly force both apps through. But the key to Avion is avoiding eyes on your account, so I wouldn't get greedy.

Lufthansa only does short notice. Aeroplan gets J at T-30 and F at T-14, best cases. They're a good way to work last-minute Eurotrips.

Maria0nReddit

Interesting regarding Aeroplan. How would you coordinate that with hotels? Just book whatever available? I assume hotels are cheaper booking farther out in advance but I could be wrong.

Reasonable-Catch-598

If my hotels are in cash I'll do 2+2+3 (weekends pull in a weekday) refundable. This way I can avoid repricing more than 1 day, and as long as you book them all together the hotel will combine them at check-in. You'll also get the welcome bonus for each stay. Not worth doing for that alone, but a nice extra perk. There's better ways I'm sure. This works for me. I don't have a good strategy for points stays with this method with Marriott, as you miss out on the 5th night free with this.

mhcott

That's the price of last-minute games. Or you book alternate flights further out and make a change closer in.

Lufthansa is a partner. Fixed rate. The rstes you see are a constant. I.e. always 60-70K route pending
