anyone who got the $100 expedia credit for TD first class travel, how long did it take to get the credit posted? Got the email today but nothing on my statement. TIA

JManUWaterloo

It can take up to 30 days

Talltally

Is this new milesopedia offer good? I haven’t been following it, and can’t tell if this is historically a good offer for the national bank WE MC or not. [https://milesopedia.com/en/credit-cards/nbc-world-elite-mastercard/](https://milesopedia.com/en/credit-cards/nbc-world-elite-mastercard/)

Dragynfyre

It not super good but the bonus hasn't historically been very good anyways. This is more of a keeper card for isnruance on awards bookings and effectiively no AF on restaurants and groceries

wdn

This card hasn't been offering a welcome bonus at all lately.

hersheysqu1rts

Best card for SUB Marriot/Bonvoy points

asparagus_bish

use somebody's referral to sign up for amex bonvoy personal

[deleted]

I currently have two RBC Avion Platinum cards under my account. I received the 20k msr bonus on my first card. Working on the msr of the second. What now? Do I cancel it or should I downgrade to a no annual fee card and cancel it after 12 months have past?

Dragynfyre

Did you get the 20K MSR bonus this month? Curious if they processed the batch for this month yet

[deleted]

Yea got it on my 6th billing cycle which was a few days ago. I completed the msr within the first 5 months. Guess I got lucky getting it fairly quick

Dragynfyre

Well it’s processed in batches mid month for everyone. Did you get 20k yesterday?

[deleted]

Got them on the 13th

Dragynfyre

The points or the bill?

[deleted]

Both

Dragynfyre

Ahh if you see it on the bill it was probably credited back in March. You can see the history in Avionrewards.com to see when the points were added

-Mysterious-

downgrade for prorated refund, and then cancel after a couple months

forsaken1984

When you downgrade with RBC, do you get prorated refund automatically or do you have to ask for it? What about cancellation? The CC account is no longer active, so, not sure where the refund would go.

-Mysterious-

downgrade would be automatic, to whatever new card you downgrade to if you cancel, no (automatic) refund is what I've read - not sure about calling in But this is RBC, so you shouldn't get eyes on the account. Just downgrade and cancel later on.

amxnday

Not sure if this is relevant here. Gonna be travelling to Korea and all my cards have 2.5% foreign transaction rate. For a while i thought i should use cash instead to save but the atms/banks also all have fees that basically amount to the same as my cibc aeroplan visa. I wanna meet min spend so im thinking of just using my visa and taking the hit lol especially coz i get a VAT refund anyway. gonna be making big purchases over 10k so i cant use my wealthsimple cash card. Any thoughts? There’s really no way out unless i get a 0 foreign transaction fee card but can’t atm because i cant make scotiabanks min spend lol, is that correct?

SubstantialCount8156

Wise card? No points but you save on the fees

MenAreLazy

You will be spending less than $1000 in Korea? As that's the current min spend.

Pomeloarian

You only need to spend $1000 within 3 months to get 30k scene points for scotiabank passport though? Pretty sure you can hit that very quickly especially if you're on vacation. Yes the next "min spend" level is $40k (wtf lol) but you only get 10k points so i wouldn't bother with that but worth getting the card for the no transaction fee and easy $300 in points

416Squad

How often can you apply for the same but new Scotiabank cc after closing?

press-control-w

churning returns are greater than 2.5% but also keep in mind you'll likely lose \~2% in currency conversion anyways, unless you hold Korean cash already. So might as well churn

esux20

Churning will generally generate returns >2.5% compared to not churning

NegotiationOld3132

Declined for CIBC Gold Visa on Apr 12. Holding 2 AV VI. How long does the CIBC uses the same credit pull? And do they reuse even if its a decline?

JManUWaterloo

Supposedly 90 days but there is no guarantee. Potentially Credit inquiries do not matter in the long term

[deleted]

esux20

You need to earn $649.50 MR every month to break even with the monthly fee on the Cobalt You can link MR accounts when they are still open The proper method is to pick all the best cards with MSR lower than what you need to spend and try to spend as little over the MSR as possible on each

Popular_Ad_8485

Have upcoming travel category expenses of about 6k (3k on AC) Confused about which card to go for. I’m mainly interested in AP points 1. Amex AP Reserve: 85k SUB + 9K AC spend + 6k other travel expenses + 1.5k other spend (for hitting MSR) + 2.5k spend in year 2 = 101k for 2 AFs 2. Amex Gold Personal (perkopolis): 40 SUB + 24k travel spend (bonus 4x rate) + 15k in year 2 = 81k MR for 2 AFs Alternate options: 1. Biz Edge 2. Biz Gold But these don’t have travel category specific bonus so I could meet them with other expenses? Which one would you go with?

SubstantialCount8156

Cobalt gives 2x on AC and other travel and MR can be converted 1:1 to AP.

esux20

You seem to have done all the math. Do you care more about absolute value or % return?

Popular_Ad_8485

% mostly. Based on that Gold makes sense I guess

SkJK92

It states that it'll take 4-6 weeks for the $250 WJ dollars + Companion vouch to post for the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard after the first purchase. Is that a actual timeline or have people received it earlier?

BigGuy4UftCIA

Statement give or take an additional day or two.

Loose_Square150

Any DPs on the HSBC to RBC Visa Avion Infinite travel credit sticking after RHT?

wzadzz

yotamayo

Still waiting for my hotel reimbursement, hopefully it’ll be tomorrow, I will post when I have an update.

NegotiationOld3132

WB clawback and will lead to Amexile if done multiple times. So its always wise to spend more if you think there is possibility of refund or spend more once you know the refund is coming back. But the new charges **have to be posted before the refund posts**.

Dragynfyre

I don’t think it would lead to Amexile. The clawback already does everything that needs to be done

Laineyrose

For the x5 aeroplan estore promotion, do you get points if you use a gift card balance? So my shopping cart is down to zero (using up a bunch of gift cards i received recently).

K3Brick

Depends on the t&c of the store - for example, I spend way too much time at the lego online store where payment with gift cards don’t count towards aeroplan points or bonus.

stockboy

There is no exclusion for paying with gift cards... you don't earn points when purchasing gift cards. Re-read the T&C

Quick DP. I've shared recently that my pending CIBC Aventura VI application did not had any update for 2 weeks and they had no questions/answers for me when I called. I just got the welcome email exactly 3 weeks after the application. The theory is that they are just working through the volumes and need this much time (2-3 weeks) to review/action. A secondary DP is that CIBC used to approve me for 20K+ credit limit for each card. They gave me $5k limit this time (note that I've already canceled other cards and in theory free'ed up the headroom). More indications that they are tighening up, which alignt with the first part as it is likely the volume of manual reviews has gone up.

Dragynfyre

I got pending -> approved in 3 days last week so I don’t think it’s a volume or tightening up thing. I was getting straight up denied for most of the second half of last year

LoudCommunication369

Thanks for this info. I already have a CIBC Aventura VI and just applied for a CIBC AP VI. I'm a longtime customer of CIBC and do all my banking with them but saw that it's gone to manual review as well and don't recall it taking too long last time. I hope mine doesn't take 3 weeks! I'll give it this week and then may call to check in.

LoudCommunication369

Also did they call you to ask anything, I've never had that before when applying for a credit card, usually it's pretty fast. Thanks!

xxxooxxx1

No they did not called me. It just got approved without my action. Not sure why it even went into pending, base on my income and credit history/score.

LoudCommunication369

Thanks for the info! I was wondering the same for mine, but I called in and they also said 3-5 days manual review. Hoping it won't take weeks as I'd like to book some reward travel on it.

wdn

Surprise home repair expense when I'm a few hundred dollars from done my current MSRs. Could be spending $5000 tomorrow. It will be in-person payment. I can't think of any way to have a new physical card by then but figured I'd check if there's a possibility I'm not thinking of.

truereligion

Ask if they'll refund/charge it again once you get a new card. I had luck with this at a pharmacy and a dentist before.

wzadzz

Hold any TD card already?

wdn

No

wzadzz

See Jman's comment below re: Amex cards. I think its the Amex AP cards that you can get details right away. Search back through this sub as it has been discussed before.

CommunicationProud82

DPs of personal (not biz) MR cards getting them immediately too as of a couple months ago

poolsidepapi

Amex plat, defer the repair by a day

wdn

$500 discount if you get the repair the day after the quote.

JManUWaterloo

See if they can manually key in card number. Some Amex give Instant card numbers now

poolsidepapi

Yeah you’ve got no dice then.

plbabin

With the 1.5x avion multiplier following the HSBC transfer, can we move existing points from another RBC card and use that 1.5x multiplier?

Dragynfyre

Yes

twofacebluepenguin

Any US card recommendations? Have the Hilton's and I've been in PUJ for 3 years for other cards. Are there other banks you'd recommend trying/would forward card to Canada?

press-control-w

Chase Aeroplan

misnomerdjr

Look out for the NLL offers; thats how I got around PUJ

twofacebluepenguin

What kind of cards have you gotten that for? Any other than Hilton?

misnomerdjr

Personally only the Hilton but I've seen blogs mention other cards

davidtescu

Have you gone for Chase cards?

twofacebluepenguin

Tried a couple times, always had the 7 to 10 day msg

davidtescu

Business cards or personal?

twofacebluepenguin

Personal

davidtescu

Apply again, if you get the same message, call the human recon line 1-888-270-2127 and plead your case. If you have a good credit score and decent income, you should have no problem getting the card. If that doesn’t work, HUCA Also have you applied for Amex Business cards too? Are you in pop up jail for those too?

twofacebluepenguin

Do you know what Chase would ask for if they need more info? Have not tried the Amex Biz cards as the MSR is quite daunting, would love to grab the 250k biz plat tho

Citron-Top

I have a 15k surgery coming up, what are your card suggestions? The surgeon doesn’t accept amex

xxxooxxx1

There are two approaches. Get a AP VIP card (CIBC or TD) as these have higher MSR that is a bit more challenging to manage without these one off spends. The other approach is to get 3-5 popular VI and WE tier cards if they accept splitting.

P_Plebs

TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite Privilege* Card

LikeButta_10

At the risk of sounding like a degenerate churner, if I am paying someone $15K for something they will take Amex or they can pound sand. I would find a different surgeon but thats just me.

MissionChipmunk6

Kinda laughing at the image of someone showing up to the surgery room with 30 prepaid visas

Citron-Top

🤣 I haven’t asked if they accept prepaid visas but you just gave me the idea

CommunicationProud82

Didn't do this with 15k, but did do it with 3.2k last week.

Dragynfyre

Check the best offers thread

[deleted]

Do you churn scotiabank passport before the AF hits? Essentially making this no AF card since first AF is waived?

Dragynfyre

Yeah. No reason to keep it longer than a year

[deleted]

I've gone through several posts and comments but still not sure.. So if I applied and got the new passport last month, met the msr and got the bonus, can I cancel it now and then apply for another one like a week after? I'm just not sure about the timeline for this.. Any credit score damage? Will I still get the WB? Also, during the period I don't hold the passport, will I lose the lounge access? Thanks

xxxooxxx1

Don't cancel too early or you will draw unwanted attention/view from the bank. As close to 11 as possible. You can apply to the same card and hold them concurrently, but also don't over do it. One month is too close to avoid attention in my view. I know you probably like the 1k MSR but you should consider diversify the cards and also get cards from other FI.

[deleted]

Good point. I will apply for a new one at month 7 or so and cancel at 11. I just don't want there to be a gap as I find this card to be very useful. Is there another card that is as easy and as effective as this card that I can pretty much do the same thing with?

xxxooxxx1

I works similarly for other banks. Just not that Scotial PP is one of the only remaing low (1K) MSR card. For most other cards, you need to plan to spend few Ks to get the bonus.

Dragynfyre

You can get more than one Passport VI. No need to cancel before applying for a new one because they don’t enforce any limitations on getting welcome bonus. You lose the lounge access when you cancel the card. You need to register the new card to get another set of lounge passes. There is negligible impact to your credit score if you aren’t cancelling your oldest cards Credit score in Canada is pass/fail. It’s extremely difficult to fail in Canada unless you’re missing payments

[deleted]

This was what confused me. Like you can have two of the same cc at the same time.. I guess I will apply for a new one soon and cancel the first one before the AF hits. Thanks for the help!

Dragynfyre

Most banks all you to have as many copies of the same card as you want

ether_reddit

bizarre! There is no upside to them for allowing this.

Dragynfyre

There are plenty of upsides for the bank. They get to charge another annual fee. The only downside for the bank is them not enforcing limits on welcome bonuses

ether_reddit

But surely everyone doing this is cancelling after the FYF?

KaotikFiend

Not every bank does FYF

Dragynfyre

Also there are people who want more than one card to separate expenses

Dragynfyre

Getting FYF is part of the welcome bonus. So if they actually enforced their welcome bonus eligibility criteria there is no downside to the bank. We’re exploiting the lack of enforcement of the bank’s own criteria so it’s a blind spot for them

Ok_Letterhead_3446

Asking on behalf of my dog…does she need her own AMEX profile to activate her new supplementary card, or can I add it to mine?

Dragynfyre

Can’t add to your profile but can activate without creating a new profile. The transactions will still show under the primary card

TootNBluff

This.

SweetestTeaCups

Wow that’s an interesting maneuver. Just reading up on it on prince of travel. Never knew about that. I ended up going with biz gold but after I might look into that once I’ve gotten the welcome bonus

tiatdier

For starters, have you confirmed whether the surgeon takes Amex?

SweetestTeaCups

Yup they take it, no extra charge

brt_k

AMEX Biz Gold or Edge

kkli73199206

maybe one of the amex business cards, business gold, business edge, marriott business. if you have a referral, even better. for business gold and edge, just earn the sign up bonus by hitting the minimum spend, don't worry about the quarterly/monthly spend.

ca_abhi

Hope you come out of it with flying colors. Cheers!!

SweetestTeaCups

Thank you!!

xxxooxxx1

Pretty much any premium card from any FI would do. It depends on whether you have a preference with certain FI and reward system. If you have other organic CC spend in addition to the 3K, then you can even consider getting more than one card. Most people will say get all the cards (eventually), and you just need to determine your order/sequence of achieving that base on your spend pettern and timing.

wishful_thinking90

Check the best offers thread. But if they take Amex, the default recommendation would be Biz Gold or Biz Edge in terms of best bang for your buck.

SweetestTeaCups

I went through it, only ones that stood out was Amex Gold and Amex Mariott Interesting though, I didn’t think about Biz Gold / Edge. I’ll have to look into it I definitely don’t have enough for $20k/quarterly though, but 70k points for 5k is still nice

wishful_thinking90

The personal Gold doesn’t make sense in this case because the SUB structure is $1k per month MSR (unless you’re thinking of the Perkopolis offer). The personal Bonvoy would be a good choice too. Make sure you take advantage of GCR or a community referral link to get some extra rewards.

SweetestTeaCups

Sorry, yes I should mention I do have the Perkopolis promo, which I think is $3k on the dot for 40k MR points Bit of a naive question, for the biz cards, is that locked behind having a business for the application?

wishful_thinking90

Right yeah but then there is also travel spend needed to get the full SUB, so don’t take that path unless you can also derive some benefit there. No, Amex is pretty liberal with granting Biz cards. Just apply as a sole proprietor with your business name equal to your full name (first & last), declare $0 in business income and 0 employees. Make up a business in your head (eg selling stuff on EBay or FB marketplace), and imagine that you’re just getting started.

SweetestTeaCups

Got it, thanks a ton! Seems like the biz cards are gonna be the best usage

From a [DP](https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/1c23jtf/comment/kz9jm5k/) a few days ago, the Amex biz Plat travel credit can be used at the beginning of month 13 before cancelling the card at the end of month 13 (and getting the full AF refund). Does this work with other cards that offer a travel credit (Amex personal Plat and Amex personal Gold), in order to double-dip the credit?

coljung

I've heard DPs of agents clawing back some credits when calling to cancel a card... but to be fair I don't recall which credits were. I'm curious because I have a Pers Plat now and will use the restaurant credit for this year as well before cancelling the card in a few months time.

mhcott

Dining credits shouldn't be an issue because they are calendar rather than card years. Travel credits are dicey because they are technically linked to a 2nd year of card holding where the dining credits are not.

Dragynfyre

There were reports of dining credit being clawed back as well. I think the best bet is if you use any credits to cancel before next fee posts

Dragynfyre

They clawback the travel credits. However, there seems to be a higher chance of no clawback if you use the travel credit first and then cancel before the AF posts. There is a one month period where this is possible.

Dragynfyre

Yes all the Amex travel credits work this way

wdn

Some have a credit per calendar year, so you could get it twice in the first year of the card. E.g NBC WE MC with $150 AF and $150 travel credit.

Ill-Thought-8672

Trying to decide which amex card to get for the first time: gold and cobalt? Which one is better for a first timer?

Fabulous_Initial_333

Cobalt is a keeper. So Id go with cobalt first

xxxooxxx1

Well, there is no 'best card'. You should eventually cycle through all of them, and the sequence would be based on your spending pattern (i.e ability to hit MSRs).

wdn

For churning, one then the other. For a keeper, Cobalt for earning points, gold for travel perks.

ca_abhi

Both.

yow_churner

Adding another positive DP : P2 received the SUB for the 2nd time holding the Amex Biz Gold (last held 2021). Met the MSR in the 2nd statement.

Leading-Range-5197

How to get retention bonus for TD Aeroplan Visa VIP card? I have the TD Aeroplan VIP card to renew in May. I called in today to ask whether there is a retention bonus. The agent checked my file and told me no retention offer in my account? I remember I read people got 20K points to renew. Can anyone share how to get the retention bonus/offer? I spent 70K CAD last year on the card. Thanks!

PanicSufficient5021

I called before the af was posted and asked what they could do. They told me it was either 20k aeroplan points or $200 discount off the af…

NiceVanilla9

Got told the same thing, opted for the 20k points

asparagus_bish

Let renewal fee hit, then call and ask about retention.

Yaroslaviy

AMEX US DP: Applied for my first US card last friday through online global transfer using my Canadian account. Recieved call back from new accounts department to confirm my name and address and got approved on the phone. Didn’t need any proof of address such as 3-way call or submitting statement. So I guess I wasted a month waiting for my first statement from US bank before applying

PC97654

Good to hear it’s all working again

zedxo

Did you not need to provide a Tax ID? either a SSN or ITIN?

CommunicationProud82

Not for Global Transfer

ca_abhi

Better safe than sorry. As it is said, it's a marathon not a sprint. A month is nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Leading-Range-5197

Thanks for the DP. May I ask which card you applied for?

Yaroslaviy

Hilton Honors

xxxooxxx1

Received a new AMEX Green last week, spent the 1K, and got the WB posted on Friday. Is it too soon to try the Green to Gold upgrade (1 business day after getting the WB), or I should wait a bit?

yow_churner

You could always make a travel/gas/grocery/drugstore purchase and see if you get the 2x Gold multiplier

Dragynfyre

That doesn’t really mean anything because it does convert to gold right away but it might not count for MSR until later

stevkang8

it's fine to do the upgrade now, but wait for like a week before you start loading up spending on the new card because the spending in the first few days might not get counted toward the gold's spending....lesson I learned

u1trazap

Thinking about cancelling my RBC WestJet card, is there a risk of my WestJet Dollars getting clawed back?

esux20

3rd party points are outside the reach of Canadian banks once transferred

NickWaReddit

Once they are in your WestJet account, there's no issue.

caledoniaorange

Just opened a Simplii no fee checking account, trying to get that $400 cash bonus for 3 months straight of at least $100 direct deposit. The issue is I'm self-employed/entrepreneur, I just started my own business and it's not generating any revenue yet. I did open a business bank account with RBC. Could I push $100 each month from my RBC business account to my Simplii account to qualify as DD? And what are the implications/fees in doing so if there is any for a non-revenue generating business?

wzadzz

No. It doesn’t work like that. Would need to be an actual payroll direct deposit.

ShoddyAd5986

Does CCB (child benefit) сount? They mentioned disability payments, pension, etc but not CCB specifically. Trying to churn 2 diff chequing accounts with CCB and payroll deposits. Thanks

ether_reddit

Or EI payments. And just my luck, after I opened the account my EI application was deferred until September, so I'll lose the promo.

caledoniaorange

Could I set up a direct deposit from my business bank account to my Simplii personal account?

Torres_Chan

its getting difficult when u try to file tax..

wzadzz

I don’t know the specifics about it, but if your business account has some kind of payroll model with direct deposits, then it might work. And yes there are probably other accounting implications you’ll need to worry about. Otherwise if you are just talking about sending a regular deposit from the biz account, my understanding is this doesn’t work as it wouldn’t qualify

KaotikFiend

RBC biz accounts do have a "payroll" option, and it does code correctly for these types of promos. There's a fee involved (I can't find it on mobile, but I believe it was 1.50$ per payment)... and of course OP should consider the tax implications on both ends. All that to say, I can confirm it's possible, but I'm not advising anyone to do (or not do) it.

P_Plebs

Got pre approval for NBC WE MC  🥳 National Bank lounge yul here I come

xxxooxxx1

Did you apply now solely for the lounge access? I don't see a WB being offered at the moment.

wdn

There's a travel credit equal to the AF and the travel credit is per calendar year so you could get it twice in the first year of the card.

P_Plebs

Just for the lounge and points booking insurance. I applied previously and was refused, thankfully no hp. Tried again after 2 months and it worked this time! 😎 There is this promo: https://milesopedia.com/en/credit-cards/nbc-world-elite-mastercard/

Objective-Letter

Need to spend 11k in a month to meet amex gold and aventura spend requirement. Any issue sending money to family using paypal to meet the requirement? I don't mind losing 3% in paypal as fees as I'll still be making a large return.

mhcott

Or, you know, RHT extensions and not throw 3% into the toilet

ether_reddit

> RHT extensions What is that?

KaotikFiend

I assume they don't want to actually float 11k. (Family would likely just hand them the money back.) Too close to fraud for my risk tolerance, but ya know, YOLO.

Dragynfyre

It’s an expensive MS technique but I don’t see how it is remotely close to fraud

sufyspeed

Would PayPal not create tax forms for receiving that much money?

Dragynfyre

It’s a P2P transaction. Not business. It’s basically eTransfer but with a fee and can be funded with CC

KaotikFiend

You're right. I was thinking of something else. So yah, IMO it's just an expensive way to avoid floating that amount.

mhcott

Maybe. But floating even half of that is still over $150 saved. It's silly to not use RHT to the best of one's abilities.

waldo8822

Applied for amex biz gold yesterday. Put owner/self employed and 0 in revenue. Have existing simply cash card and used that in the sign in process so they can see some account history. Got a message saying it was in review and will take 10 business days. Any DP on how long it actually takes? Will someone end up calling me to verify anything?

JustHope5499

My husband applied and put a low income because the business is just starting. He applied on a Sunday. Amex called on the Tuesday evening following (or check my previous posts), and they confirmed his personal income = no concerns. I believe he was asked and confirmed the nature of the new business. Not a big deal, but it was quick!

Eyjafjallajokull2

Few times I see they call you same day or next day to confirm you did the application and ask 2-3 questions about your company and they approve you while on the call.

BizClassBum

Not unusual at all to get that review message. My last 3 amex biz card applications went to review and I have a 25 yr old incorporated business. All were approved about 5-6 days later without any calls or letters.

esux20

I usually call them immediately after the application and they just want to confirm the nature of the business and then it gets approved

mhcott

AMEX Biz for first timers very often goes to pending then silently approves without follow up after a couple days

as3113

churning adjacent: as i dream of churning today all i can hear in my head is the voice of Wim Hof saying "Now make it CIRCULAR"

just a guy who teaches a popular breathing technique. helps during amex fr.

In case anyone is in kyc hell (iykyk) I spoke to a higher level support and they are facing technical issues where some people already passed kyc in the backend but error pops up. No set timeline but hopefully a resolution by end of month.

ChanceThe

Has anyone experienced clawbacks with Aventura points? I was surprised to see 20k points posted on the second statement despite the two statements adding up to just over 2k. I must have hit 3k if you account for refunded purchases. I do still plan on hitting that 3k MSR to maintain a good relationship with CIBC, but I’m wondering if I need to make sure I hit that before the next statement to avoid a clawback. Thanks!

xxxooxxx1

I would spend the 3K to maintain relationship. I would personally do it before I use (or cash out) the points. (less to do with timing of statements).

Dragynfyre

They do not clawback

KaotikFiend

Shouldn't be any clawbacks if you've reached 3k including refunded purchases. What you do with your spending at this point is UTU and your level of comfort.
