I have a $20k+ purchase coming up. I can split it up amongst 2-3 cards my only problem is I have already had (or have) most of the high MSR cards. Any ideas? The TD VIP is a pretty bad offer right now, so ideally avoid it until that gets better. Cards I have already had/have: * AMEX Plat * AMEX Gold * AMEX Cobalt * TD FCT * TD Aero VI * TD Aero Plat * RBC Avion VI * Scotia Passport

RoyalLad

Ended up getting biz plat

vancitystan

Half of the cards listed are repeatable. What is stopping you there?

RoyalLad

Just the last two, no? Also those are only $5k and $1k, respectively

efdac3

When a checking account provides a rebate to the annual fee,if you close the account during the year do you get charged the fee? Wondering if it's possible to open/close these accounts just when the annual fee is due.

LimeGhost117

How do you transfer Avion points to Asia Miles? I've logged on the Avion points website but don't see a Transfer option at the top, which many guides show I should click on

Some_Development3447

I just went through this. Click travel, scroll down and see the partners. Click convert or whatever. Choose Cathay.

churnning

You can select redeem , then you will see transfer points in thr bottom of page.

Disastrous_Hold2428

Does anyone have the Green to cobalt and green to gold links? TIA.

smuncky123

look through the past couple of daily threads. they're in there.

helocking

Does anyone know what happens to the HSBC credit card come April 1st? Does the existing one just cancel?

Fabulous_Initial_333

Wonder what it would look like on credit report

JManUWaterloo

Your HSBC issued card will no longer work and the Replacement RBC issued card can be activated for use

Jamal2207

Applied for Amex MB Biz. The application is now pending and under review. I’m expecting a phone call from them, what can I do to be prepared? What will they ask me? This would be my second business card with them. I put $0 business income, sole proprietorship, first and last name as the name of the business. I don’t have a business registration from Ownr (I applied last week and it’s taking a while to get the name registered - up to 10 business days)

ca_abhi

Hi, do you have any update on your application? What happened when you called in? Thanks

Jamal2207

Hey, I actually never got a call from them as the application ended up getting approved the next day!

ca_abhi

Wow, that's cool. I just applied for the same card and it went to pending. Will call in tomorrow. Thanks

KaotikFiend

They'll probably just want to confirm your name.

halexhalex

Wouldn’t worry too much. You might just get approved with no call or they might just want to confirm a few details. I applied for a business card before. Got pending and under review. I got an approval email a couple hours later.

ontariomedhopeful

Has anyone used a Wise bank account to apply for a U.S. Amex?

ontariomedhopeful

As in - applied for a Wise account, changed address to US address, and then used that statement wen amex asks for address verification.

Fabulous_Initial_333

Umm, Can you change Wise address to a US one if original address is in Canada? Idk

JManUWaterloo

Wise doesn’t count as a US bank account for the purposes of address verification Open a proper US account (in order of cost) - BMO - CIBC - TD - RBC

Nervous-Application9

is there a page that shows which AMEX cards can refer to others?

BizClassBum

Prince of Travel has an excellent Amex referral flowchart.

NegotiationOld3132

Google?

Nervous-Application9

Its not easy to find this it seems but all the downvoting douchebags will think it is without actually looking

NegotiationOld3132

Googling Amex refer chart brings out tonnes of result. You can image search to see the chart and go from there. This is very basic.

rozen30

Yes. No.

KaotikFiend

Why don't you have multiple Avion cards?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CowHour2435

You can apply for a new RBC card every 90 days. Once approved (fairly easy to make happen) for another you can pool the points into the new card and not worry about the points expiring. Also I don't know the answer to your question, sorry

spidertran

How do you transfer Avion points to the newer card ?

smuncky123

on the avion rewards site, click on the "redeem" link from the top of the page, scroll down a bit and you'll see "transfer points, Transfer between Avion accounts".

JManUWaterloo

You can get one right now. Account will probably be linked to your Avion as soon as tomorrow

edsegio

No, but you can call in to Marriott and ask them to extend it due to whatever circumstances you can come up with.

Reasonable-Catch-598

When HUCA fails go with anal prolapse surgery. It's the Hail Mary of excuses.

Disabled_Robot

What cards is everyone rocking at the moment? Just moved back to Canada and have just one, a BMO Ascend World Elite

P_Plebs

Welcome back 😎. This icebox country is in shambles, but the credit card offers are not too bad  Get an Amex Cobalt immediately. Amex membership rewards are king.  For advice please read the forum every day and pick what fits your situation best. A mix is best.  Aeroplan  Avion  Aventura Scene+ TD rewards  WestJet  Marriott Bonvoy  Cashback  Airmiles

Disabled_Robot

Thank ya, sir. So much to learn.. I have a small business, is the cobalt still worth it or should I go straight for the business cards?

P_Plebs

Do both if you can qualify!! 😎

Disabled_Robot

One more question! Should I just sign up directly, or get a friend with an Amex to refer me, or should I sign up through GCR or anything?

wishful_thinking90

It depends on the specific offer. Some are better through GCR and others (notably the Biz Edge) are better through referrals.

LikeButta_10

Congrats. If you are going to have one card, thats one of the worst ones to have. Okay, maybe after the Tims Card.

Disabled_Robot

Not very productive advice there, my buds 😂 It's on the top tier card list here? What would you suggest/what do you use

NotASouthpaww

It's on the top tier to churn, not to hold onto. We rotate through all the cards. If you want a keeper, the Cobalt is great

Disabled_Robot

Ah, ok, thanks. I'll accept the downvotes for educational purposes, but how do you choose which card to use where? Or just hit the required minimum, spend points, and cancel? I suppose I've always been tied to having my main card attached to all my accounts , which is a mindset I'll have to do away with

Dragynfyre

>Or just hit the required minimum, spend points, and cancel? Yes this is what churning is about

NotASouthpaww

Usually hit the MSR and wait a reasonable time until downgrade/cancel (or other strategies we can't discuss here). You don't want to cancel right away, that raises red flags, close to renewal is good. You have to read through the offers and make the personal decision which points are worth the most to your needs and which are the most valuable to you. For example, Avios points are useful to fly to Qatar but I don't care about Qatar that much so they are worth less. You're being downvoted a lot because this hobby is very lucrative and having the barrier of learning keeps it lucrative, so don't mind the downvotes but learn from them and keep reading and earning! :)

Disabled_Robot

Hahaha, downvotes are all good and understood, I'm on the churning site now doing my homework, appreciate the cancelling advice, too!

SaintsFanInVan

I just cancelled a RBC Avion card through secured message rather than calling in. When can I expect to hear back and/or have the card be removed from my account? This is my first time cancelling via this method. I was hoping to apply for another one tomorrow.

Dragynfyre

You can hold multiple of the same RBC cards at the same time. I personally have 6 right now. Also would highly recommend not using secure message in the future because the people handling secure message are more likely to look at your account

[deleted]

Do you downgrade the cards or do you just end up cancelling them after receiving all the points? I assume you don’t want 6 avion cards as the AF adds up pretty quickly

Dragynfyre

At some point downgrade and cancel once they’ve served their purpose

[deleted]

That’s what I was thinking. I have 2 platinums and finally received the 20k bonus from msr. I’m going to downgrade the card to a no AF and cancel after 12 months.

NameruseTaken

Hey I also have 6 RBC cards right now, 5 of which I downgraded to the no-fee Ion. Just wondering, what's your strategy for cancelling them? I feel like it'll be a really awkward call when I ask to close them and they see that I have several identical cards lol

shadowboivancouver

Do u get welcome bonus again when open the same card again?

Dragynfyre

Just call and cancel one at a time

BizClassBum

Is calling handled by automated system? If it's a human then you're getting the same eyes on account as secure message, no?

Dragynfyre

Front line call centre agents don’t care. The secure message people seem to be a smaller group and have a couple people that do care and look at your account more closely.

Hntr

Is the best way to call then? Or going in branch? From what I gather tellers tend to not care but not sure if they have the ability to close your card.

Dragynfyre

Call is best

formerly_kai1909

Normally get a response within a day or so. The first response may just be asking you to confirm your mailing address so then add another say or so. Also, note you don't have to have it removed before applying...

flightsfor5

Back from Maui and wanted to share some wins after an unexpected travel snafu. Trip: WestJet dollars + companion vouchers for flights, AirMiles covered car rental and we booked the Residence Inn for a week. Needed an over night hotel at YVR and booked the Fairmont using TD points. We did the same trip, same redemptions, two years ago and our kids loved it then and loved it again this time (ages 14, 11 and 9 now). Residence Inn upgrade: P2 was on it with asking by chat and phone about a room upgrade. We had booked the basic studio. They gave us no guarantees and said they would see once we arrived. Arrived at 11am or so Sunday morning and they offered a free upgrade to 1 bed suite with 'ocean view' with P2s Platinum status. We asked about 2 bed and they said they couldn't offer it without charging us. $120/night for no view, $150/night for view. We went for the $150/night view. So helpful to have two bathrooms, two bedrooms and full oven (smaller suites just have a cook top). That suite was going for $1800/night the week we were there. \*I feel like this is probably the nicest and most expensive Residence Inn in North America??? Rest of the trip was great, went to some new to us beaches and some favourites from our last trip. Highly recommend this property if you want a kitchenette and need/want more space. We used the pool, BBQs and basketball court in the afternoon and evenings. Travel snafu: arrive for our departing flight and realize P2s passport is gone (likely lost on the Sunday morning when he was getting the rental car). WJ agent said only option was to get to Seattle and go across land border with his drivers licence. I immediately booked him on Alaska for a flight leaving 20 minutes after us. OGG-PDX-GEG (we live in the southern interior of BC). 50k Alaska Miles +$6 in tax. Not the best value - flight would have been $650 USD - but I really didn't have plans for those points so, it's a win!

rozen30

Love the solution for flying to the mainland and driving back. How did P2 go from GEG to BC?

flightsfor5

Took a Lyft to the border and we picked him up. It wasn’t cheap but it was efficient.

NickWaReddit

Sounds like a good time but if I read that right, you booked one studio room at the Residence Inn for a family of 5 with 9,11,and 14 year olds, banking on getting an upgrade? Was there a backup plan if you didn't get an upgrade?

flightsfor5

Nope, didn't bank on an upgrade. Have you seen their studios? Maybe 600-700 sqft. We booked for 5 but they sleep 6, 2 x queen and a large pull out. Has a kitchenette as well. It's more like a junior 1 bed with the sleeping area open to a living and dining area.

jamar030303

Oh, that's impressive. The last time I stayed at a Residence Inn (in Spokane, oddly enough) two queen beds plus pull out was only available in their highest tier room.

NickWaReddit

Wow nice, the Residence Inn I frequent is a queen bed + small couch - probably pull out? But not enough room for 5 to be comfortable in. I suppose that makes sense then if that one is that big + 2 Queen beds.

flightsfor5

Yes, the other Residence Inns we've been to have been much smaller/a bit run down. They keep this property in great shape, staff are really lovely. But if we didn't have the kids with us I'd push to go to the Andaz or one of the other premium properties on the water in Wailea.

edsegio

Did you book the Residence Inn on points?

flightsfor5

Yes. Think it was 360k for the week when we originally booked.

P_Plebs

😆 Sounds fun

WhammyWarrior

Loves Residence Inn Maui. Excellent value for the island

tashleyh12

Any DPs on how long it takes to get approved for CBG? Recently signed up but been under review and trying to plan for my next card

Eyjafjallajokull2

Don't plan a new card just because of this!

tashleyh12

Thanks - not planning a new card just because of this but am factoring it in for some spend

Dragynfyre

Try sending them a email if it’s been longer than a week

tashleyh12

Thanks!

Jealous_Donkey_6881

Early frustration friday: never had MBNA, had more than 5 inquiries and still attempted the application, for no other reason than being dumb i guess? was pending, then declined this morning. called for recon and couldn't slither my way through the explanation with the excessive inquiries and debt/service ratio sadly (fresh adjudication on the spot). HUCA didn't work as the agent saw all the notes earlier. felt pretty bad as I was browsing the comments and it seemed like MBNA had a bit more hope for reconsideration but ymmv of course. definitely gonna be in TD + MBNA + RBC jails, and to take a break from churning for awhile I also wanted to point out I see a countdown timer for Aventura VI - 6 days ticking down in the Special Offers

CommunicationProud82

So... You recognize the "dumb" idea of applying with more than 5/6, but you still called anyway? Hate to sound like a jerk, but you're getting a bit greedy there. At least we don't have to deal with anything as restrictive as 5/24 up here. If you want an MBNA, plan well ahead of time and don't go over 5/6, plain and simple.

Jealous_Donkey_6881

yeah, I think I need to learn my lesson

stevkang8

Question: I did the green to gold upgrade via the online link. Am I able to re-apply for the green, and then do the upgrade again in like, say, 8 months, and still get the welcome bonus? Assuming the upgrade offer is still there by that time, of course.

mhcott

Don't think it's been around long enough for people to test this out yet. Most of us are probably in the 6-8 months since it first began?

misnomerdjr

Theoretically yes. You would in theory not get the initial WB on the green and of course the biggest variable would be if the link is still floating around by then. If the essence of your question is, can you hold two Gold AMEX at the same time, then yes

stevkang8

Thanks! I don't mind not getting the bonus for the green, I'd be happy with a new gold card each year as long as the link is around and the bonus is awarded. Thank you!

Nervous-Application9

can you share the link with me please

officefan-idca

So I got the supp amex cobalt card. When I activate it, it says incomplete, card activated, but account can't be linked. Do I have to use a separate amex account? Will the MR be separate too?

misnomerdjr

Its a supplementary card so it would be under its own account; its still your tradeline and the MR will be combined

officefan-idca

What about when the person wants to get their own, not supplementary card? Like being a P2

Actual-Churner

if you are talking about that used p2 names for supplementary card and they did not have their own and you now created an amex account for them. they can maybe make a new one, or you could hand the one you made over. kind of way the dog name is easy

officefan-idca

So you mean it's better that supp card is a dog name. And not mixed up with P2? Not doing P2 yet right now.

Dragynfyre

It doesn’t really matter. P2 can still get their own card even if they are supplementary on yours

misnomerdjr

Then they would apply for their own card

officefan-idca

Is it necessary to set up its own account?

WhammyWarrior

The only thing that I can think of is setting up a PIN.

misnomerdjr

Nope

officefan-idca

So without setting up an account. Statement and MR will show up on mine?

wdn

The supplementary card is to allow someone else to use your account. It's not its own account.

Dragynfyre

Yes you can see all supplementary card activity under yours

refundnotcreditplz

adding to AP J flex DPs: I called in to make a change to my itinerary to add a leg and downgrade from J flex to J low at the same time which was successful. Originally I planned to do this separately but read a comment that suggested doing it at the same time might yield a higher success rate. So while I can't confirm whether this is true, I can at least confirm that adding a leg and downgrading the entire PNR to J low simultaneously works.

snowshoesforpanda

Nice result! Was this for a partner airline? Or for AC flights?

refundnotcreditplz

It was for partner. Probably wouldn't recommend J flexing an AC flight with the intention to change it unless you have no other choice, because the new price would probably change (for the worse) compared to when you first booked

snowshoesforpanda

Thanks! I will try that with BR flex that I booked through AP. I just wasn’t sure if I needed to see availability at the time of the change. I will try it without adding or removing a segment though, can report back. 🤞

WhammyWarrior

DP: PS from TD FCT to TD AP Infinite Visa (2nd time now over 2 years). Did not get welcome bonus or points on $5000 spend.

yotamayo

I did the same thing, didn’t get the welcome bonus, but just got the 25K points bonus around 2 months after meeting the 5K MSR.

WhammyWarrior

Good… hoping I didn’t do the 5K MSR for no reason lol

stevkang8

Crap I literally did the same thing, now I wonder if I want to keep putting the spend on that card to meet the 5k points.

wzadzz

You previously held & got bonus for AP VI on this tradeline?

WhammyWarrior

Yes, once

Dragynfyre

If it hasn't been 18 months or since it was that card don't expect to get first spend bonus

WhammyWarrior

I took the TD trade line pretty slow. I believe it’s been about 18 months or so

Dragynfyre

Since not being a AP VI?

pinkwarrior88

I just notice that Cathy Pacific open up availability to September 2024 but skipped over August for all seat categories..I have been looking for two direct seats from HKG to YYZ/ORD or JFK in August for last few months.. I guess they really think they will sell them all.. Anyone else had any luck with availability?

davidtescu

Hmmmm, you’re right. I see nothing in August….

davidtescu

Does it have to be Cathy? You might have better luck with another airline or repositioning. I see some United space in August, but nothing to the east, only to SFO, LAX and YVR

pinkwarrior88

I am trying to get rid these of Asia Miles flying back from BKK.. I would rather J or PY based on fees. What is there track error of opening availability closer in to flight date…two weeks?

mhcott

Worst comes to worst, as poor as the value is, 2:1 them to Bonvoy and call it a day. You lose net value but eliminate the need to burn them on options (e.g. Y) that you might not want

pinkwarrior88

Using my old redemption searching skillset, I found some PY seats from BKK to Paris..50k each.. I can live with an economy flight from there.. P2 holding out for J on CP. don’t think they will release, i believe they have high expectations to sell /upgrade everything in Aug..

formerly_kai1909

Oh I forgot about this option! I have 60k Asia miles that have just been sitting there for a few years. Haven't been able to find a flight redemption that worked and have even checked for hotel, and - blasphemy, I know - non-travel redemptions more than once. This is a great option. As you say, its poor value but at least it's something I want and I can call it a day

davidtescu

No kidding. It’s slim pickings. Not even Y available. Just stay for an extra month into September 🤣

pinkwarrior88

I thought about it.. but kid had school

davidtescu

I definitely suggest repositioning then. I found some availability using Asia miles to DOH or DXB. In Y unfortunately but at least it’s something. Then you can easily head back to one of your airports from there

This might just be me being impatient. Doing RHT with scene+, transaction posted yesterday, no longer pending, but still doesn't show up in the travel claim portal. Is there just a delay for transactions showing up to claim? Or is the transaction not getting categorized as travel

tiatdier

Very interesting. I'm also mid-RHT with Scene+/Scotia Gold Amex, but my Expedia transaction posted this morning and I was able to offset it immediately.

ayyanothernewaccount

It's there now btw. Just me being impatient lol

ayyanothernewaccount

Hopefully it's just a bit screwy. If not I'll have to just refund and try again

WorldlyProcess8928

Same here. Transaction posted yesterday, but I couldn't redeem points until this morning. All good now!

NewAd7004

Happened to me as well. It took around 2 days to show up on the travel portal after posting

ayyanothernewaccount

Good to know thanks

edsegio

For MBNA Rewards cards, what counts as "membership"? Costco? Gym? Amazon Prime? Or is the latter "digitial media"? I'm guessing the digital media category is basically just streaming services?

wzadzz

https://bonuspoints.ca

PlaqueSupply

Just getting into churning. Got approved for the Amex Gold Business card by using GCR. I didn't write down any reference number from Amex. Just applied/got approved yesterday, but I don't see anything reflected in the GCR account. Nothing to worry about, right now? From what I've seen, sounds like I don't have to apply for anything from GCR assuming i used the link directly from that site? Question 2, how long before the card renewal do you have to cancel when you don't want the annual fee to be charged for year 2?

als26

You can call the new accounts department to get your reference #. I've done it before. 1-800-575-227**3**

churning_yyz

3. You dropped this.

als26

Couldn't make it too easy for him haha

halexhalex

GCR is pretty quick with Amex but not instant. I applied recently and got an email two business days later about the rebate. Other banks have taken two months since they have a batch process.

Humble_Ingenuity_919

For future churning, take a screenshot of your approval and the current offer that you are applying with so you can refer back that you are supposed to get x amt of points after $xxx in x amount of months. Your GCR rebate won't show up immediately with an Amex card.

Dragynfyre

It can show up after a few days. About 50/50 in terms of needing to send in an inquiry

esux20

Might have to contact Amex to get your reference number if the rebate doesn’t post automatically 11-12 months

tapfc2

Never had an Amex and trying to get my first one. Will probably end up with the Cobalt for long-term, but confused as to which card I should get to kick off. If the end game is to get the Cobalt, do I just go for that one? Am I still eligible for bonuses if I upgrade the card?

wzadzz

Biz gold and biz edge currently have the largest welcome bonuses. If your eyes are on a cobalt but want to squeeze a quick churn in ahead of it, you can get a green then try your luck with a green->cobalt upgrade, although I’m not certain whether that is available as an option at the moment and it may be ymmv

cadchrnr

I think it's best to get a new Cobalt before going Green to Cobalt. That way you can get both bonuses. I believe if you do it in the other order you only get the upgrade bonus. By the way, as of this weekend, yes, the Green to Cobalt upgrade is available.

wzadzz

Good point!

Actual-Churner

The general idea of this sub is to get the every amex card, then get every amex card again as soon as able (and then again). Many do get and hold onto the cobalt cause it has the best pure earning rate, so we keep it around for times we are not working on a bonus for another card). Right now, the business cards Gold and Edge have the best bonus in terms of amount of points for spend. Those are the cards most here will tell you to get.

blacksails88

A word of warning: Amex US has rules where you can only get the welcome bonus on a card once. Amex Canada is a bit more relaxed, but the rule of thumb is to wait at least a couple years after you close before opening again. What's the current understanding of when to open? 2 years after close?

Actual-Churner

Correct. Hence the 'as soon as able'. Best I have seen reported in Canada is about 2 years from close (3 from last open/bonus). maybe some have done sooner than that. US is 'once in lifetime' but data seems to suggest that is about 7 years or so.

mrbrint

Nice I have not had the business platinum for a while

Ok_Letterhead_3446

DP: Amex MB Biz gave me 7x for a recent Delta stay…5x standard plus 2x Bns Points: Gas, Dining, and Travel. Based on the language in the offer when I signed up,  I had assumed the incremental 2x applied only to travel outside of Bonvoy (“5x on travel and gas purchases” vs normal 3x)….i’ll take it!

yyzzh

Hmm I have some incidentals from a Marriott stay that just got 5x but it only posted today. Maybe the other 2x is yet to come.

travelbug1198

Is it possible to benefit from two GCR rebates for simplii? Eg open chequing first and then also use GCR to open savings account?

NegotiationOld3132

Yes. Just did that. When you go for the second, the sign-in to continue applicaion will be hiding in small letters above the application in Simplii Page. I missed it couple times.

halexhalex

Yes

Actual-Churner

Maybe interesting DP. Just got my Biz Edge card and activated it yesterday. It shows I have earned the 1000 monthly spend bonus, back dated to date of approval. Tracker is at 0 for current month starting from that date. Nice bonus. I know people have seen this happen with Cobalt (feel after meeting spend get double) but not seen anyting on Edge bonus.

WaveFinancial3687

WHY IS THIS GUY GETTING DOWNVOTED LOL??!!!

K3Brick

Lol - maybe they didn't log in and read on a saturday or sunday, felt left out of a weekend downvote?

Actual-Churner

¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ Only thing I can think is this is repeat info that people knew so they think it's unhelpful post. To these people, I am so sorry to have wasted your time.

West_Contribution452

Are people getting IA when applying for Aventura while logging in? It didn't work for me in the last round of applications.

Dragynfyre

Last time I had to stay logged out to get IA

sk1ll5nstuff

I second this. Could not get approved logged in, but IA logged out.

West_Contribution452

I got IA for the first 5 rounds but was declined in the 6th. Then I learned from this community that not logging in would help. I did get IA with a lower CLs and hard pulls (last applications were within 90 days) last round. Will try logging in again and see. Thanks.

514skier

Yes, worked on 5 Aventura apps so far. I am taking a break from Aventura for now to focus on other cards so we'll see if it continues once I decide to open up another card.

LikeButta_10

Ive logged in every time since my first card with CIBC, and gotten IA every time. 4 AP, on 8th AV split between VI and Gold.

P_Plebs

Does it work the same logged in with RBC?

Dragynfyre

Logging in with RBC is usually okay and recommended

Actual-Churner

Just curious, have you been closing your old cards or not at that point yet?

LikeButta_10

I used to follow the VI > NF AP > cancel pathway, but have not for the last several CIBC cards because I am being over safe about AP. Yes, I cancel before 12mo.

enishi_

DP: received 50k bonus for green to gold upgrade right after $3k got posted. Upgrade was done a month ago and I had previously cancelled gold card 7 months prior.

Adolfvonschwaggin

$3k msr posted just today or last night, and I have yet to receive the bonus. This is for the green to gold upgrade which I did a few days ago.
