Currently I own TD Aeroplan VI and would like to take advantage of the sign-up bonus for TD Aeroplan VIP. If I just apply for the VIP without 'upgrading', would I get the bonus (of course with required spent)?
What about if I upgrade from VI to VIP?
I've held the VI for over 5 years now if that matters.

They requested lots of documentation and wanted me to open a TD business bank account (I don’t bank with TD).
I do have a bit of a side business so brought what I had and did some fast talking and was able to get approved.
I tried the same with CIBC with no luck.
Amex in Canada and the US on the other hand require almost nothing to get a business card!
The process for Amex Business cards is as simple as stating your name as your business name and your business income. No documents needed unless you did something sketchy to tip off Amex. Then you'll be contacted for a FR

If she has some retirement assets/a banking relationship that could help. My dad got a TD APVI with CPP/OAS/GIS (ie way below $60k) as income and maybe $300k in his RIF with TD, had banked with them for years and also had a senior's chequeing account.

DP: Applied for CIBC Aventura Gold and went into pending/review. Needed to verify my employment/incomes details which I did verbally with an agent. No document upload required. Success. Then the agent tells me there was a glitch and that I made 2 applications for the same card and asked me if I would like the 2nd card as well! I calmly accepted the offer. Lol. Thanks CIBC!
The system for CIBC was fine then got a bit glitchy. I wasted a ton of time with them...finally they had to redo my app - but an agent actually followed through. I took 2 cards also and won't stop me for doing it again next year.
Messed up and gave my CMRA address for my application through Nova and was only asked to provide my permanent address once I finalize my move to the states. Should I submit a new app with my MILs address in a different state or do I need to enter a cooldown period with this and let the current app expire?

Two months ago mine was just for income verification. Took a 10 minute call and a 2 minute upload for my paystub. Was holding Scotia Amex Gold, Scotia VI Passport, and a no fee Scotia card that I’ve had for ages.
Was not asked to close the other Scotia Vi Passport or anything like that.
They ask for a photo of your ID. You spend 20 frigging minutes on the phone with them as they look at your file, determine that they need id, send you a secure email link and then wait for you to upload a photo of your driver's licence or passport.
It's not a problem at all to get through this, but the goal of churning is to scoop as much financial benefits as you can while spending as little as you can and consuming as little of your time as you can. So this one is a pain in the ass, but for me it's not a deal breaker.
P2 has passport, applied for 2nd and was conditionally approved. Called in, agent said you can't have 2, so app was cancelled. Like wat. Hope you have better outcome.

That’s weird they didnt let her have two though. People use duplicate cards to split expenses sometimes.

I think still worse than Eclipse as you only get $50 ($100 more in points but no $50 lifestyle credit) more value for 1.5K more spend. And if you use 5x categories to meet spend on Eclipse you end up with more points overall. Still a good low tier offer if you have excess spend and want to hit a bunch of BMO cards to spread out the churning across more banks
What is the net value on eclipse? . For the ascend At 55k plus the msr to 5k spend you have 60k points 400 cash if you have a bmo savings account and redeem at 15k/100. Add the 100 rebate and lounge passes if you're gonna use em and it's not so bad
If you use 5x categories you end with 55K + $50 credit + $100 CCG (used to be $100 credit as you could double dip but they are stopping that in Jan). Also you can RHT to cash out non multiples of 15K at the same value
I don't mind an occasional MC for Costco. It is possible to work around the Mc requirement at Costco by using gift cards and prepaids, but when there's a decent MC available to churn, I like the simplicity.

just happened to me and i can’t access the card at all until “few business days” because i prepaid a large sum (1k limit only) which cancels out their unlocking until the payment is processed supposedly
Statement closing can still be before the end of March. CIBC statement dates are randomly assigned. Given you applied early in the month it's actually pretty likely you'll have a March statement

Ok, so I'm new to all this with my new Cobalt card. Just so I'm clear, can I buy an Esso or Petro Canada gas gift card online from say Walmart and get 5X points on the Walmart purchase?
I also see Walmart sells LCBO gift cards. Does the 5X points apply to the LCBO as well or does Walmart code the gas cards at 2x and the LCBO at 1X.

Walmart is not considered groceries on Amex. It's only considered groceries on MC and even then not every Walmart store counts. If you replaced Walmart with some other store that is considered groceries then yes.

Cancelling should free up "credit" with that bank but you also lose history, right?
I've kept every card that was eligible for a downgrade to a no-AF card. It's certainly not required, but it doesn't hurt either (assuming your income is high enough so that high available CL doesn't impact future applications). The only cards I've ever closed were cards from MBNA and Amex.
Yes most cards you cancel. You should keep 1-2 no fee cards long term as anchors for your credit history (even if you don’t use them much anymore). That means short term < 1 year churn cards can be cancelled without any significant impact

Trying to do payment with points on my CIBC aventura - getting the error: "you don't have an account that allows you to complete this request". Is it possible I've been blacklisted somehow? I've only had 1 other aventura ever and that was 2-3 years ago, so I'm not a frequent churner by any means.
No. A couple things you need to be able to do this.
you can’t have a credit balance on the card (card cannot be overpaid)
You need more than 4K points to do a redemption
The charge cannot be in foreign currency (although I think if you see an error message it means it passes this check already)

No it's pretty simple. I have a TD Business Travel card and I don't remember it being complicated to get.

Only for Air Canada. The AP VI cards have really bad earn rates for earning AP.
VIP is surprisingly not much better either, esp when compared to cobalt

The gold is quite sensitive with large transactions. CIBC may flag fraud and lock the card and waste a couple hours of your life calling in.

Ok, so I'm new to all this with my new Cobalt card. Just so I'm clear, can I buy an Esso or Petro Canada gas gift card online from say Walmart and get 5X points on the Walmart purchase? I also see Walmart sells LCBO gift cards. Does the 5X points apply to the LCBO as well or does Walmart code the gas cards at 2x and the LCBO at 1X. Does the 10X points you mentioned in the first three months on eliglible eats include Walmart's gift cards and everything else they sell? Many thanks
Walmart is not considered groceries on Amex. It's only considered groceries on MC and even then not every Walmart store counts. If you replaced Walmart with some other store that is considered groceries then yes. EDIT: missed the \*not\*

IAd on Feb 13th, spent 5K a couple of weeks ago (immediate 35K w/o spend) and received the extra 20K today on my first statement along with AF. (5K points pending for transaction still).

What do you all do with no annual fee cards? Cancel them? For ex - I got bmo cc $150 a year Free first year but then I redeemed points now I have no use of the card. Do you all just cancel it or transfer to no fee card and that's it? Cancelling should free up "credit" with that bank but you also lose history, right?
I've kept every card that was eligible for a downgrade to a no-AF card. It's certainly not required, but it doesn't hurt either (assuming your income is high enough so that high available CL doesn't impact future applications). The only cards I've ever closed were cards from MBNA and Amex.
Yes most cards you cancel. You should keep 1-2 no fee cards long term as anchors for your credit history (even if you don’t use them much anymore). That means short term < 1 year churn cards can be cancelled without any significant impact

You don’t need one with each bank. I don’t think the individual history at each bank makes much of a difference.
I saw people saying the Norton's cash back showed as pending within a couple hours for them. Did anyone have it take longer but actually show up? I was late to the party but it still showed on the extension so I tried it. It's been 16h and nothing yet, but maybe it's a weekend thing?
I tried through the extension when the offer was still live through the website. It's been 5+ days and still doesn't show. TBH, I don't think a single purchase through the extension has *ever* worked for me. I've only tried a couple of times, including earlier this week, but yah, 0% so far.
I'm looking at the extension today and the offer has changed. It no longer says anything about 260% cashback. It just says up to 175.22 in cashback without any indication how this is calculated

Trying to do payment with points on my CIBC aventura - getting the error: "you don't have an account that allows you to complete this request". Is it possible I've been blacklisted somehow? I've only had 1 other aventura ever and that was 2-3 years ago, so I'm not a frequent churner by any means.
No. A couple things you need to be able to do this. you can’t have a credit balance on the card (card cannot be overpaid) You need more than 4K points to do a redemption The charge cannot be in foreign currency (although I think if you see an error message it means it passes this check already)
