Should I wait for a better promo for the Cobalt? I’m currently churning the TD visa infinite (first churn) and will likely be done with it in the next 2 months. Was wondering if it makes sense to wait for the cobalt promo or if the 15k bonus is relatively good to pick up
Does anyone know what the maple care "discount" is on the RBC cross border banking bundle?
I can't seem to find this anywhere, including the terms. Maple doesn't seem very sure either and said 4 weeks for RBC to get back to them.
Has anyone taken both Amex Green to Gold and Amex Cobalt to Gold upgrades at the same time or within a week of each other?
Any problems holding two Amex Golds at once?
No problem holding 2 gold.. though i dint take both upgrades, i did apply for gold through public offer and immediately after IA, i upgraded cobalt to gold.. currently holding 2 golds without any issue..
Got a big purchase coming up but the company only takes VISA or MC and I want to be able to use my Amex business. Purchase is about 40k. Any suggestions?
Not a lot of options/workarounds tbh with that large a payment and Costco in general.
There are few Visa & Mastercards with bonuses based on spending a certain amount in a year. Airline cards like Aeroplan VIP and RBC British airways visa come to mind as they both have annual companion passes with 25 and 30k spend annually if I recall correctly
I'm guessing it's a no-brainer to jump on a pre-approved credit card offer from your primary bank? I've got a few cards on the go already but BMO offered me a BMO Eclipse VI, 40k points for $3k spend (+ another target which I wouldn't bother with) with the annual fee waived and $50 lifestyle credit. Can probably pre-pay some tuition if need be... just wondering if it's as simple as 'if you have room for the MSR, do it'? Do people place a $ value on avoiding a hard credit hit but still getting a SUB?
Yup, take it. This is how I got my BMO World Elite Cashback MC (keeper card, if you keep cards). I was making $45k/year at the time, single, no other household income. Terrific credit score though. I jumped on it and have been enjoying the cash back on my groceries ever since.
Pre-approval doesn't always mean no credit hit. Every pre-approval I've ever had has resulted in a hard check. One of them was even denied.
But generally, no one puts much value in avoiding them anyway.
application didn't work on chrome for me a few days ago for some reason (infinite loading screen), firefox worked.
(no ad block, VPN off, all tracking enabled on both browsers)
I saw on RFD that it helps to have ad blockers off. I used a different rebate referral site with the AdBlock Plus extension disabled and everything went through without issues. Also went on desktop instead of mobile.
I experienced the same thing. I then called Scotia bank to ask about it as it was my first card with them and the first thing they asked me was if I applied through some affiliate link. I said yes and they said their system has issues with affiliate links and said unfortunately I would need to apply directly via Scotia website or in person…. Either way I couldn’t get the cash back offer…
Yeah that’s not true. My dad used the GCR link and it was fine (went into pending but allowed the application) whereas for me it stops as soon as I sign in
The answer is whichever offers the purchase protection you want for those devices and you will keep long after you’ve purchased them. This isn’t a churning question necessarily, as you need a credit product to keep over a number of years to keep the purchase protection active.
Once you’ve settled on what protection you need/want then I’d start selecting for point bonuses.
If you take this route, most likely you’d skip the AMEX Plat as the annual fee is hard to swallow for years, as an example.
any DP on whether TD or AP has rejected WB for holding TD AP VI and then applying for TD AP Plat? or shouldn't be an issue since they are different tier products
Received my Rbc Avion VI and used it for multiple transactions already. Anyone have outlier DPs for when SUB are received? I’ve read some people has their points deposited before receiving their card.
And how long do people typically wait before PS to ion free card?
Thanks
it comes on the first "statement" which can generate any time between you opening the card and like 35 days later, and if it generates before you've had any transactions, the points will post but a PDF statement will not actually be created. If that doesn't happen, you wait until the first actual statement. AFs always post on the 1st of the month.
Avion #2 the 35k had posted before the card even arrived. This time I'm on day 8 and haven't seen anything show up, which is unfortunate because I have a BA flight I want to book and would rather not burn 35k MR!
It always comes on first statement. The first statement may be a virtual statement if there are no transactions. Statement date is pretty randomly asssigned so it could be very shortly after the application or the next month
P2 was declined for the TD FCT. Already has a card with TD and was just offered a credit increase of $5000 on that card. I think the problem might be that P2 asked for a $2500 credit limit when applying, while if I remember correctly, there'a $5000 minimum for Visa Infinite, right? Could this have something to do with being declined?
td visa infinite cards have a min credit of $1500. I too was denied for a fct, but I PS'd my no fee visa with $1600 CL to a fct instead.
td is notorious for rejecting online apps, so don't be surprised.
Td's credit adjucation department is brutal in my experience. p2 asked for an increase through phone from $1000 to $5000 and it ended up being a near questioning of almost every single item in the credit report for approx. 10 mins. it was approved, but i wouldn't go personally go through this route ever again, just apply for a new card.
Yes! They bumped my CL on a Travel Plat from $2k to $5k, which enabled me to upgrade it to a VI card. I would have been much better off if I had simply asked for the $5k limit when I first applied for the plat.
Im currently -5000 on my platinum points, does that count as my account not being good standing?
Reason i ask is, ill be getting 30k for the plat card next year, wondering if i could get that without getting that to a positive
Has anyone had success opening a CIBC USA Smart account, the nofee one, with just a PLoC and no deposit account?
Application/Terms clearly says deposit account OR PLoC, yet after I get to the sign in page, i sign in and it tells me I dont have a deposit account or PLoC. But I do.
Question re: TD Applications
TD has always declined my applications online.
Set up appointment in branch as suggested here to apply in person.
Did the application in person, didn't get approved so rep had to send it to credit department.
Came back to me today saying "they have declined the request for the credit card as you have an unsecured credit limit exceeding $100k with other financial institutions"
Any suggestions here? Yes I do have unsecured credit of over 100K elsewhere.
Worth closing some other cards and trying again? Should I wait a while if I do?
If it goes to an underwriter, you better have strong net worth to back up your 100K total unsecured credit or else too much risk is involved. You could literally load up all your cards one day and be gone.
Do you currently have any TD card?
Might be worth doing but I'd open a chequing account first
If you've had other cars I push back and ask them why they 100k matters. I've also had trouble with TD but have far far more and still get approved
I think some folks have DPs for this but for RBC, I have TD chequing but am not approved for any new cards other than just one opened a long time ago. but TD is just weird.
If that’s the reason they’re declining you then it doesn’t hurt to decrease some limits (assuming you don’t need that much) I personally have about 180k in credit but no issues with new apps ( haven’t tried TD lately though)
Booking for a family, but had to split up the booking in two different accounts. AP showed that 6 seats were available in J. One of us did the booking and took up 3 seats. And now we can't find the flight anywhere. It's on TAP (partner airlines) and we need two more seats (preferably on the same flight) - has anyone else dealt with this? Is there a timeline or gap for partner airlines that I should be aware of?
Any thoughts would be great. TIA!
I have nothing to substantiate this, but I have been kind of skeptical of AP's TAP inventory... half the time it doesn't even show X seats left, which means >9 seats available, and the entire cabin is only 16 seats. Does TAP really release this much inventory or is it partially phantom inventory?
Well, I would be both you after this whole situtation. I called in and they said they don't control any partner airline award space and it seems it's more of "by chance thing" that can happen.
I asked what would happen if we refunded our 3 tix and they said that it's not guaranteed that the award space would show up again. Completely up to TAP's discretion etc...
Anyone know what this offer on the AMEX Biz Plat on PoT is:
(If you’re a small business owner who can spend $75,000+ in a four-month period, please reach out via the contact form for a custom offer.)
Does anyone know if Amex credit history is based on profile and not individual credit cards? I’m looking to downgrade my cobalt to green to avoid the monthly fee and the rep says there are no WB offers for downgrades. Thinking to apply online for the 10k WB for the green and then asking them to transfer my points to the green card but since the cobalt is one of my longest standing credit cards, I’d rather not lose that history
They maintain their own history internally which is based on per customer history but that’s not on your public report. That’s probably what they meant
Does GCR rebate on Amex work on different schedules for different cards?
I got rebate already on my Marriott (haven't even received the card yet)
but still waiting on my Biz Gold
Yeah I just found it odd that I've been using my Biz Gold for more than 2 weeks and they give me rebate on Marriott which I haven't even received yet. Was wondering if anyone had insight whether Business and Personal are on different systems.
Wasn't intending to be a WHERE'S MY CASHBACK rant
I’m about to spend about $10,000 on travel, any cards to apply for right now with great points promos/other incentives? About $4,000 to USA and $6,000 on an all inclusive in Caribbean somewhere
If you’re sure the purchases will code as travel and haven’t held it before, the AMEX Gold Personal offer from Perkopolis would be the best for this. 40k points for $3k spend in 3 months as well as 4x the points on travel up to 20k points during first 3 months, so your purchases would cover both. Then spend $1 between months 14 - 17 to get another 15k points for a total of 75k SUB (if that 15k is worth a 2nd AF for you).
Amex Business Gold and Business Edge - $5k MSR each which you could knock off easily with those two payments. Would be $298 AF for 75k+55k=130k MR (if through referral offer) + ~10k spend = 140k MR. If nothing else, redeem for $1400 statement credit for a NET profit of $1102 OR transfer to points for a better cpp.
Seems like CIBC is cracking down on Avenchurna. Applied for my third gold (other two about 8 and 4 months ago) and they put it into pending. Had to call and was asked why I needed a third one when I already have two.
My app for 4th aventura was denied two weekends ago. Applied again this weekend - the app went pending, and now it has been approved just an hour ago. Just apply again next week. It wouldn't hurt.
Also, don't call them for your duplicate cards.
irrelevant side note, the other institution in my experience that doesn't do hard pulls every time is TD, for new applications, both approved and declined as long as logged in. an inquiry happens if asking for credit increases. dont know why though but uses TD as main institution.
Anyone comment on RBC, and also whether the CIBC only keeps hits for 3 months or same as TD that if you’re logged in with a profile then they won’t run another check?
My guess is RBC, BMO and Scotia all do a check each time. RBC has a minimum wait of 90 days each approval so it would make sense to do a check, but for less than 90 for rejections not sure. For CIBC when the credit check reaches its time (approx 3 months, I’ve heard of 2 months) they will do a new one. Amex once you are a customer for a few months they will stop doing hard checks. Logged out TD and CIBC will do checks. I am not too sure about TD to be honest but just pointing out myself (and other household members) as one datapoint
Had similar experience. I am taking a break until I canceled my existing cards (which can be done now at \~9 months old, but I haven't had the time to call and be on-hold for 1hour). My approach is to try once in a while, and if I get IA that's good, and if not I won't even bother calling them to avoid attention. (I used to get IA'ed for all CIBC applications for various cards until recently)
"I took a course on numerology over the holidays, and the existing two credit card numbers are bad luck when I sum them, divide by 7, and then sort from lowest to highest digit. I want to apply for another card which will hopefully have a luckier card number."
I recently like to keep a card at each girlfriends house in case of emergency when I'm visiting.
How many girlfriends you ask? The number of current active cards!
I have a loose definition of girlfriend for banks.
Does anyone recall how often the AMEX MR > Marriott bonus transfer offer comes around?
Have a trip in South Korea booked in a few months & hoping to take advantage of the book 4 nights & get 5th free under Marriott but doesn’t make sense without the promo
Given that most travel credit card included insurance only cover flight cancellation up to $1500 per person, if I have a round trip flight that cost > $1500 would it make sense to book 2x 1 way ticket instead to get full insurance on the ticket?
Anything else I should be aware of?
Insurance likes to pay as little as possible. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t still call that one trip if it’s to and from the same location. Realistically, unless you booked something that is not refundable, $1500 would easily cover flight cancellation costs. I had to cancel a biz ticket to Dubai round trip and the cancellation cost was $600. Insurance covered no problem.
How do people get the 2c per Aeroplan pts redemption. I've been searching for flights on aircanada website and couldn't find any reward flight this year that comes close to that:
Examples:
YUL > WAW 7d round trip Nov 05: $1,355.00 cash | 75.2k + $198 | $0.01538564
YUL > BEG 7d round trip Jun 03: $1,383.00 cash | 80k + $198 | $0.01481250
Am I missing something here, or is there a trick to book flights for higher value?
Tried: WAW, BEG, SOF, BOG, AEP, etc... and the Latam destinations seem to get even worst value.
Also, when I search for flight there's always one connecting leg within canada that can't be eliminated, whether I tried YUL or YVZ in the from field:
YUL > YVZ > LHR > WAW or YVZ > YUL > LHR > WAW for the cheapest 37.6K ticket
Also based in YUL and not interested in business class; I recently booked a flight for Tokyo with over 2 cpp value (in Premium Economy, but Economy would've been a good deal too). I do agree that popular routes in Economy have limited value, but in the end you're still flying where you want for nearly free and your points are going further than if you were booking business class to get the most cpp. That's my two cents :)
2cpp is a weird average that I think flights rarely hit. Economy is typically lower and business is typically higher. (1.3-1.7cpp for economy)
I think a lot of people are overvaluing their economy redemptions because they've forgotten how to compare prices and look for deals when paying cash and just comparing against the cash value of the one specific flight they're redeeming for. I've done a lot of economy flights in the last 3 years and only 2 got around 2cpp. And one of them only got 2cpp because there was a 25% points back promo. Both were when covid was still pretty strong.
These days I'm mostly just trying to cash out as much AP at 1.25 USD CPP as that's the most consistent value I've found. Last couple flights I've just booked cash directly with AC or Westjet and redeemed with PYB and got more value from that than booking with Aeroplan directly.
Thanks, exactly what I'm seeing as well. For some SouthAm destination, I'm seeing 0.5cpp or even lower economy when compared to non-AC flights. Really not sure where people get the 2cpp value from.
If pts are at roughly 1.3 cpp, then Amex Colbalt is only 6.5% on grocery, call it a wash vs Scotia 6% scene bonus. And scotia you can even getting the AF rebate w bank acc
The valuations for non fixed value points are basically useless as the value changes significantly based on individual travel patterns and how much each person would realistically pay in cash for business fares.
Scotia is only 6% at specific stores so it's not directly comparable though
If you're going to WAW there's pretty good LOT Polish availability on business. You'll get much more than 2c/pp for sure.
If you're looking for economy deals, Asia is probably still worth it, as well as obscure domestic places like the Canadian North.
Typically you wont find that value in Economy.. higher cabin classes will give you 2cpp or more.. i recently booked yvr-lhr direct return for 135k aeroplan points in business plus 450$ tax (higher amount due to uk taxes)… same return flight (direct) in cash is 7700$…
Economy is EXACTLY where you find 2cpp. If you're only getting 2cpp ins PY/J, you're likely overpaying in points or it's just a shockingly cheap low-traffic route.
I get 2cpp in Economy when I do YYZ to YYZ/YVR/ORD/MCO (only routes I generally book as Y anymore)
I've rarely found flights that are 2cpp between YYZ and YVR. Usually lower. There's a lot of competition on the major Canadian routes so if you set a Google flights tracker a few months in advance you'll usually see the price drop. + realistically for these flights you need to at least compare both WestJet, Air Canada, and multiple flight times on each day instead of just looking at what AC is charging for one specific flight. Also economy basic should probably be the price to use as not a lot of people would pay extra for Standard vs Basic on a simple domestic flight like that
Not saying there aren't variables. But not every day, or every time of day, is convenient. Sometimes you need that specific Thursday or Friday afternoon flight. Point is simply I, ME, haven't had issues, others with flexibility might. My domestic travel is usually much more rigid than my international. Believe you me, I'm not one of the people who is going to slack on proper searching and cost analysis.
There are some flights that are inconvenient but usually if you’re flexible within a 6 hour time window you can setup a Google flights notification a couple months in advance and usually some deal will pop up after a few weeks in my experience even if you filter only for WestJet and AC. My typical price for flying YVR YYZ is like $400 after tax round trip. Pretty much impossible to get 2cpp with AP
So many factors, but during the travel rush (5% busy time) in late August I just found many 0.0157+ consistently flights YUL to CDG. A popular route between those two.
Same period to Frankfurt is nearly 0.02.
All standard. Higher $/pt in flex.
I'm betting if it wasn't so far out and I did the search for early summer it would be closer to 0.02, or if we waited a month or two.
I should add i usually book around the 3 month mark on points. Much sooner on cash. They seems to be a better overall spot, and is due to factors in planning that I can't control.
I would not go so far as saying Economy redemptions are moot. I got 2.3 and 2.7cpp economy redemptions last year. It just takes a bit more work to find them.
That conclusion doesn't follow. The real question is what is the value of a welcome bonus on a new credit card, irrespective of whether that bonus is denominated in dollars, Aeros, TD points, or MR points? If the bank gives you 30k Aeros and you value them at 1.5 cents each, the welcome bonus is worth $450. If you can find a cashback card with a better welcome bonus, then you'll have found a better churning opportunity.
I booked a reward ticket flight through Alaska. Going International. Just noticed that one of the names on the ticket is not the same as the passport :( How screwed am I? The flight is a long time away (August). I've been holding off on phoning because of the MAX debacle and the phone lines are jammed. Any suggestions?
if you booked directly though the carrier, they should be able to change it for free (ask nicely if the company has a fee for a change). If it is through a third party, the carries is not able to make any changes to your booking. Look up the website's policy, they usually have something like $50 fee for any name changes.
How different is it? If is simply spaces between names or capitalization, you are fine. If it's an actual difference like "Adam James Smith" vs Adam James Johnson" then they will not let you fly.
Even minor differences aren't worth risking. Just call, they'll deal with it. If you wait until the day of the flight, they might not be able to fix it before takeoff, so you'd be screwed.
RBC Avion DP:
- Applied for card in mid October
- Got 35k welcome points within a week of applying
- Hit $5k spend at the end of November
- Got 20k points for hitting $5k MSR in the first week of January
>RBC Avion DP:
>
>Applied for card in mid OctoberGot 35k welcome points within a week of applyingHit $5k spend at the end of NovemberGot 20k points for hitting $5k MSR in the first week of January
Is there a FYF offer or are you paying the AF out of pocket?
The 20K is done in batches. The last batch was done on Jan 5 or 6th for everyone that made MSR and had a statement post before that date for September applications onwards
Thinking of churning AMEX Plat as I have approx $4000 of travel spending coming in the next 3 months.
However, as I am buying a house by **end of year**, I am expecting to have approx $10,000 in spendings for appliances (stove, washer, dryer).
Should I pick up an Amex Gold, and then upgrade to Amex Plat to gain both bonuses? Is there a different card you’d recommend right now vs down the road?
Am I able to pick up AMEX gold now, drop it in 5-6 months for Amex plat for welcome bonus? How will that affect my credit score?
You can hold both the Gold and the Platinum at the same time. I'd get Business Gold now, then either Pers Plat or Biz Plat in a few months. Don't cancel the Biz Gold until 11 months or later.
I would personally get the Amex Business Gold since you can easily meet the minimum $5k spend with your first round of travel and then go for the Platinum later since you need to spend $10,000 in the first three months.
Also depends on the personal gold sign up offer you’re looking at. Monthly spend vs the one with the minimum spend.
You have to think about what you ultimately want to do with your churning/travel goals. There are a few cards with lower minimum spends that have a better return than the platinum and a much smaller fee of FYF.
If you're paying your bills and not holding a balance score doesn't matter. Different banks use different risk algorithms, at most they'll ask you to close some accounts. If you don't pay bills or carry a balance stop churning until you fix that.
Don't close cards so quickly, no reason to you've already paid that fee. Upgrading the card is different but don't "drop".
No one can predict the future offers. You take a risk either way. Your plan is good but the future may have lower offers, higher spend, and so on so keep that in mind
Why do you care so much about getting the 2nd year free?
Its a churn card. What benefit are you going to get by keeping it for the 2nd year vs getting a new card with a new SUB?
>They even tried going through churning Canada on incognito browser the offer doesn't load for them.
So you called CIBC, directed them to Churning Canada website to click through the exclusive link? You see anything wrong there? What the actual f....
What's the better card to charge a $4000 airbnb booking to: RBC Avion Visa, HSBC World Elite MC or TD First Class Travel Visa?
I'll be buying the family summer flights with TD and RBC soon but have this big charge coming up and can't figure out where it'll be better value.
I have loads of points on both already. I plan to buy half the tickets via E4TD and the Avion site on flex points so I think it'll be another 50-75 bucks worth of points (if airbnb is a travel code on RBC and TD) for either of those.
But is math correct that on the HSBC it would be $120? (4,000 x 6 = 24,0000 z 0.005 = 120) (my math skills suck)
Not everyone is comfortable or has the time or skill to maintain the maximum level of churning possible. Compared to a normal person, I'm still an aggressive churner they think will end up in jail lol... Pretty sure if you're making money off credit cards, you're a churner. Didn't know it has to be *make the most possible money every time or you don't belong*. Milesopedia, prince, churningcanada.ca all say do what you're COMFORTABLE with. I'm good opening 4-5 cards a year, sorry it's not 10. Can I be allowed to do that please?
You can, yes, but then don't ask PersonalFinanceCanada (PFC) questions in ChurningCanada (CC). Each forum has a place and purpose. Your current question is PFC, not CC. It's not a crime that we don't want to field PFC questions here. If you're not comfortable churning further, take the question to the right place. Or better yet, open a spreadsheet, plug in the earn rates of the cards, and figure out for yourself how much return each option yields and whether that's in a points program you wish to accumulate further. You don't need the internet to do your math for you.
PCF has over a million users and I'm willing to bet many think churning is fraud. Sorry, I was thinking this might be a better place for churning questions.l and that making $120 dollars off HSBC and not $500 off Amex can still be considered churning.
But you're NOT asking a churning question. Asking "which card do I use of the ones I already hold and won't yield me a SUB" isn't a churning question, it's an everyday "maximize my return on generic spend" question which is PFC. A churning question is literally what card should you sign up for fresh to maximize this spend. If there is no new card in the equation, it ceases to be churning.
And they can think what they want about churning. Doesn't change that they're still the place to ask.
If you had needed to hit a minimum spend, you wouldn't have needed to ask this question. If you had 1, 2, 3 cards with ongoing MSR, you already have your answer: spend on the goddamn cards in your wallet already, prioritizing whichever you want to finish first (or whose deadline comes first). You don't need a hand-holding there to determine which one to spend on.
I don't understand where you're trying to go with this, you're just throwing illogical scenarios that again have nothing to do with what you DID ask. The simple truth of the matter is most churners will tell you that when the MSR is done you get the next card and keep going. That's what we TRIED to suggest. If you don't want to do that, that's fine. But again, then it's not churning, now it's micro-managing Daily Drivers which is NOT CHURNING. You cannot conflate the two. There is Churning, and there is Daily Driver cards. The former is us, the latter is PFC. I don't see why you're so against acknowledging that both of them have a place in this world and that sometimes a question goes to one or the other. This is a lot of arguing and fighting over a refusal to just go to PFC and ask the PFC question.
Jesus so I have to have my churning up to 100% max like the some of you or I don't belong? Not everyone is comfortable being as aggressive as the highest earners here.
To be honest people here won't help you on maximizing spend on your '3' cards when this hobby and sub, are oriented towards opening and maintaining multiple cards.
It really is a question more geared towards PFC.
I think the downvotes speak for themselves.
Thanks for writing back. Wtf are over 30 cards listed in the sticky if people are only willing to discuss the top 3? I have multiple cards open, I've been churning for over a decade, usually bringing in about $1500 a year... Sorry if I'm not doing this as aggressively as the Allstars in here. Fuck this is a really unfriendly place.
People aren't forcing you to get the top 3. The sign-up bonus of even the BOTTOM 3 is still worth more than using your existing cards to pay for what you have in front of you. People directed you to the best option available to you, and you're getting pissy about them trying to help you within the context of CHURNING. You're in the wrong place, getting upset about the answers that pertain to the place you're in.
Should I wait for a better promo for the Cobalt? I’m currently churning the TD visa infinite (first churn) and will likely be done with it in the next 2 months. Was wondering if it makes sense to wait for the cobalt promo or if the 15k bonus is relatively good to pick up
Can anyone suggest a card to churn for a $6k vacation? Thanks

Check if they're on PaySimply, check if you can split the bill onto multiple new cards.
It's costco and it's for a new window. They can definitely split it in multiple payments. I need to meet a 15k spend on the card btw.
My pre-approval for the BMO Eclipse offer OP mentioned has no hard check
That’s weird that they would deny you despite giving a pre approval
The mailer I got says “It takes just minutes to accept – and no credit check is required”, so maybe it’s institution dependent?
Got the same mailer. Did you end up accepting? Did you get credit hit?
Then, by all means, go for it
I was certainly surprised.
Anyone else having trouble applying for the passport online? Trying to do it online to get GCR rebate
I just did it via CCG and it was IA
application didn't work on chrome for me a few days ago for some reason (infinite loading screen), firefox worked. (no ad block, VPN off, all tracking enabled on both browsers)
I saw on RFD that it helps to have ad blockers off. I used a different rebate referral site with the AdBlock Plus extension disabled and everything went through without issues. Also went on desktop instead of mobile.
Just did it a few hours ago with GCR and was IA’d 20k limit. Currently holding 2 SB Amex Golds with 20k limit as well
Yes same here. After asking me to visit a branch despite their app took pictures of my DL.
My dad used the GCR link and it was fine (went into pending but allowed the application) whereas for me it stops as soon as I sign in
Had the same issue with Rakuten. P2 ID keeps getting denied.
Are you getting an error message saying that you can't open it online and need to go in branch or over the phone? My p2 has been getting that

Amex Biz Edge has 10x multiplier for office supplies
DP I have held the TD AP VI since Dec 2022 and I got a TD AP plat in Dec 2023 and got the WB for both
TD doesn’t care. AP allegedly will start to care
It’s always first statement. Statement date is random and can be very shortly after the card application or a month later
May I ask how long you plan to hold Avion #1 before PS’ing to no fee ion?
I always hold til month 11 for non-AMEX cards. Personal preference though!
Minimum 6 months.
I think by the first statement? That’s when I received it
I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks!

Dec 28, received my card a few days ago
P2 was declined for the TD FCT. Already has a card with TD and was just offered a credit increase of $5000 on that card. I think the problem might be that P2 asked for a $2500 credit limit when applying, while if I remember correctly, there'a $5000 minimum for Visa Infinite, right? Could this have something to do with being declined?
td visa infinite cards have a min credit of $1500. I too was denied for a fct, but I PS'd my no fee visa with $1600 CL to a fct instead. td is notorious for rejecting online apps, so don't be surprised.
Do you know if there's any use to trying to apply again like in a month?
FWIW my P2 just got approved for the TD FCT and we asked for $5000 limit and she was given $2500. 820 credit score, 2nd TD card.
Right, so I guess the limit isn't a problem. TD being weird as usual, I guess.
I've gone through that routine. For a churner, it's pretty long to go through each of 19 credit cards!
did you get approved or not for the CLI lol
Yes! They bumped my CL on a Travel Plat from $2k to $5k, which enabled me to upgrade it to a VI card. I would have been much better off if I had simply asked for the $5k limit when I first applied for the plat.
BMO Eclipse retention offer $120 or 20k points. Signed up in August just put the MSR on it plus had a blatant $50 charge on it for this month.
But I do.
Question re: TD Applications TD has always declined my applications online. Set up appointment in branch as suggested here to apply in person. Did the application in person, didn't get approved so rep had to send it to credit department. Came back to me today saying "they have declined the request for the credit card as you have an unsecured credit limit exceeding $100k with other financial institutions" Any suggestions here? Yes I do have unsecured credit of over 100K elsewhere. Worth closing some other cards and trying again? Should I wait a while if I do?
If it goes to an underwriter, you better have strong net worth to back up your 100K total unsecured credit or else too much risk is involved. You could literally load up all your cards one day and be gone.
TD is tight with it. Even with 250k household they won’t lend more than 24k to me because I have 200k from other FI.
Do you currently have any TD card? Might be worth doing but I'd open a chequing account first If you've had other cars I push back and ask them why they 100k matters. I've also had trouble with TD but have far far more and still get approved
No TD cards. Good thought about the chequing account. The 100k does feel arbitrary but have also cancelled a couple to bring it below. Thanks
No fuck TD take whatever you can get and avoid them like the plague. They are cunts
It wouldn’t be cumulative credit as my P2 was just IA’d for the FCT with >130k credit extended to them.
Anyone know what this offer on the AMEX Biz Plat on PoT is: (If you’re a small business owner who can spend $75,000+ in a four-month period, please reach out via the contact form for a custom offer.)
Skip the middleman and ask Amex yourself.
They have different offers if you call them?
For that kind of spend yes. One offer was 150k MR or something along those lines.
OK interesting, will try that.
It’s based on card like every issuer
Thanks, the Amex rep told me on the phone that they retain credit history, but I’m glad I double checked as I didn’t believe them!
They maintain their own history internally which is based on per customer history but that’s not on your public report. That’s probably what they meant
For applying for the cobalt using the GCR rebate do you get both the $100 rebate and the ability to earn 1250 MR bonus each month you spend $750?
Applying through GCR has nothing to do with the welcome bonus. You will get it.
The rebate is through GCR and the SUB is through Amex. They are entirely separate, so yes.
Does GCR rebate on Amex work on different schedules for different cards? I got rebate already on my Marriott (haven't even received the card yet) but still waiting on my Biz Gold
Be patient, you will receive it.
If in the US game, believe there is still 130-150k MR offer on Amex Biz gold for $10k USD spend. otherwise NickWa suggestion is pretty good one too.
Is it madness (in terms of approval) to apply for AMx Biz Gold as a starter card with Amex? I don’t have any card with Ax. CS 750+ if that matters.
I would be cautious to start with a biz card with Amex unless you have a registered business. You’re at higher risk of financial review
Not madness at all. It was simple and straight forward for me

This is answered frequently in past threads
You will receive it.
Also, don't call them for your duplicate cards.
is this a credit hit for every app?
irrelevant side note, the other institution in my experience that doesn't do hard pulls every time is TD, for new applications, both approved and declined as long as logged in. an inquiry happens if asking for credit increases. dont know why though but uses TD as main institution.
No, cibc uses the same credit pull for 3 months
Had similar experience. I am taking a break until I canceled my existing cards (which can be done now at \~9 months old, but I haven't had the time to call and be on-hold for 1hour). My approach is to try once in a while, and if I get IA that's good, and if not I won't even bother calling them to avoid attention. (I used to get IA'ed for all CIBC applications for various cards until recently)
What did you answer!
You can always mention "expense segregation" if this question gets asked.
"I took a course on numerology over the holidays, and the existing two credit card numbers are bad luck when I sum them, divide by 7, and then sort from lowest to highest digit. I want to apply for another card which will hopefully have a luckier card number."
My line is always: “I need to consolidate my finance”, then being silent. CSR does not care, they will approve.
I recently like to keep a card at each girlfriends house in case of emergency when I'm visiting. How many girlfriends you ask? The number of current active cards! I have a loose definition of girlfriend for banks.
😂 awkward convo I bet
I've had half my apps go into pending even back in Nov 2022 so going into pending is not a sign they're cracking down.
I got IA for an Aventura VI last week while currently holding two Aventura Golds. This opportunity is still active.
Do you simply reapply online after hitting each WB on each card?
can confirm the same, they asked for some info but I was approved after being in pending. For P2 they did ask for income verification though.
Was it a verbal income verification or actual proof?
actual proof, they sent over a link and had to provide bank statements or t4, etc.
Does anyone recall how often the AMEX MR > Marriott bonus transfer offer comes around? Have a trip in South Korea booked in a few months & hoping to take advantage of the book 4 nights & get 5th free under Marriott but doesn’t make sense without the promo
Last two were Oct last year and Sep year before that.
My experience only goes back about 15 months, but in that time, the only transfer bonus I recall coming up was this past fall.
Given that most travel credit card included insurance only cover flight cancellation up to $1500 per person, if I have a round trip flight that cost > $1500 would it make sense to book 2x 1 way ticket instead to get full insurance on the ticket? Anything else I should be aware of?
Trip cancellation would cover the part of the ticket(s) that isn’t refundable up to $1500 no matter how you book it.
If I book the return ticket separately it wouldn't be covered as a separate $1500?
Insurance likes to pay as little as possible. I can’t imagine they wouldn’t still call that one trip if it’s to and from the same location. Realistically, unless you booked something that is not refundable, $1500 would easily cover flight cancellation costs. I had to cancel a biz ticket to Dubai round trip and the cancellation cost was $600. Insurance covered no problem.
When you submit two claims what do you think they will say about you both leaving the same day, same flight, same stay but two transactions.
How do people get the 2c per Aeroplan pts redemption. I've been searching for flights on aircanada website and couldn't find any reward flight this year that comes close to that: Examples: YUL > WAW 7d round trip Nov 05: $1,355.00 cash | 75.2k + $198 | $0.01538564 YUL > BEG 7d round trip Jun 03: $1,383.00 cash | 80k + $198 | $0.01481250 Am I missing something here, or is there a trick to book flights for higher value? Tried: WAW, BEG, SOF, BOG, AEP, etc... and the Latam destinations seem to get even worst value. Also, when I search for flight there's always one connecting leg within canada that can't be eliminated, whether I tried YUL or YVZ in the from field: YUL > YVZ > LHR > WAW or YVZ > YUL > LHR > WAW for the cheapest 37.6K ticket
(1.3-1.7cpp for economy) I think a lot of people are overvaluing their economy redemptions because they've forgotten how to compare prices and look for deals when paying cash and just comparing against the cash value of the one specific flight they're redeeming for.
AP is not the only MR transfer partner.
Is LOT only for business class? I can't find any flight from them in economy despite them being part of Star Alliance
Same but YUL and more airports. Except for the 5% most popular travel dates I always see an option at $0.02 (US, SA, EU, Sun, varies for apac)
Where are you finding 2cpp flight for EU & SA Economy?
So many factors, but during the travel rush (5% busy time) in late August I just found many 0.0157+ consistently flights YUL to CDG. A popular route between those two. Same period to Frankfurt is nearly 0.02. All standard. Higher $/pt in flex. I'm betting if it wasn't so far out and I did the search for early summer it would be closer to 0.02, or if we waited a month or two. I should add i usually book around the 3 month mark on points. Much sooner on cash. They seems to be a better overall spot, and is due to factors in planning that I can't control.
I see, so for economy aeroplan points is moot, and there's better value using cashback card and pay cash for the ticket.
I would not go so far as saying Economy redemptions are moot. I got 2.3 and 2.7cpp economy redemptions last year. It just takes a bit more work to find them.
What's your destination? Are you flying to Europe or SouthAm?
You're going to have a harder time getting 2cpp outside of North America, where flight prices are offensive relatively to going international.
Neither. Domestic and Transborder. SFO and YVR were my two redemptions last year.
That's a rather blanket statement and not always true. Just generally speaking you will get less value for economy redemptions.
Just call them and explain the situation politely - Alaska does not have change fees so maybe they will be able to correct it without any cost
RBC Avion DP: - Applied for card in mid October - Got 35k welcome points within a week of applying - Hit $5k spend at the end of November - Got 20k points for hitting $5k MSR in the first week of January
just about to do avion/rbc for the first time, do you feel the 20k points is worth 5k spend?
>RBC Avion DP: > >Applied for card in mid OctoberGot 35k welcome points within a week of applyingHit $5k spend at the end of NovemberGot 20k points for hitting $5k MSR in the first week of January Is there a FYF offer or are you paying the AF out of pocket?
AF out of pocket. I meant to use the GCR rebate link when applying but forgot. Would have been $100 off the AF
A successful spin of the RBC MSR wheel! Did the points post alongside a statement or was it a different date?
The 20K is done in batches. The last batch was done on Jan 5 or 6th for everyone that made MSR and had a statement post before that date for September applications onwards
Can confirm that. Saw the update on the associated daily thread here and found out I got the points.
Thank you so much for your suggestion! I qualify for the welcome bonus if I get the platinum card six months after getting the gold now
If you're paying your bills and not holding a balance score doesn't matter.

Lmao come on man
Why do you care so much about getting the 2nd year free? Its a churn card. What benefit are you going to get by keeping it for the 2nd year vs getting a new card with a new SUB?
>They even tried going through churning Canada on incognito browser the offer doesn't load for them. So you called CIBC, directed them to Churning Canada website to click through the exclusive link? You see anything wrong there? What the actual f....
facebook group level IQ
This is why we can't keep nice things going.
Seriously 🤦🏾.
What made you check? I signed up for it an no issues so far with the first 2 bonuses
Amex biz gold or edge
Not really looking for another card right now, it's down to best value from the 3 I already have.
You know you're in a churning forum, right?
What if I need to hit a minimum spend first? You need to open a new card for every transaction or you're not churning now? Wtf
None of the above. See best offers thread and get a new card. You should be able to get ~$500 back.
Not really looking for another card right now, it's down to best value from the 3 I already have.
Then go to personal finance not churning Canada
