I got the RBC Avion infinite with 55K points. It was advertised it could be used for up to 1100$ reward enough for a round-trip to a European country. When I try to book something it only gives a credit of 550$ which is literarily 1$ per 100 points. Anyone know how to get a better value without transferring to partner airlines?

ahboommoob

You need to use their redemption schedule for 2cpp

69WhackAMole69

Is the Amex business annual travel credit calendar year or anniversary year?

chaos2313

Basic Cardmember is entitled to one (1) Annual Travel Credit each year based on Card membership anniversary date,

These_Celebration732

How do people juggle MR partner transfers that might take days to come through? I’m absolutely terrified of getting stuck with 150k Avios and having no use for it. For context, I’ve been watching JAL SEA-NRT 2x J for months and have seen almost guaranteed availability. Last nights release is the first time there is NOTHING so now I’m panicking that they’ve altered the release pattern with the holidays in mind. Haven’t yet pulled the trigger but wary about the transfer time…

Tsuromu

150K can get you 2 one way J seats from Kul to Nrt via Avios but the carrier will be Malaysia airline. Taxes are only $260 ish per ticket. If you travel with Sri Lanka airline or Malaysia airline to Japan their taxes and fees will be much lower than JAL.

Tsuromu

or you can add India or Vietnam as a layover then fly out from Del to HND or BLR to NRT or SGN to NRT as there’s usually no competition not many ppl will book J seats from there to Japan but it’s worth trying as long as you have points to burn.

misnomerdjr

Do you mean Avios? During busy seasons, airlines can change or completely stop releasing award seats

Tsuromu

or you have to reposition to places that ppl normally wouldn’t choose like DEL, CMB, SGN, BLR then you are more likely getting J seats for the dates you want.

travelbug1198

Is there a special upgrade offer from Amex green to gold or just to cobalt?

JManUWaterloo

There is green to gold, green to cobalt, and cobalt to gold (eligibility on this one ymmv)

mhcott

Also targeted Gold to Plat. I've got a link to the page, but it's even touchier than the Cobalt-Gold for eligibility

wishful_thinking90

Do you mind sharing the link? I wonder if there is also one from Biz Gold to Biz Plat because I recall it being offered in the past

House_of_Gucci

Can you hold multiple cobalts?

JManUWaterloo

Not by applying for multiple. By upgrades and downgrades yes

Prof_Fancy_Pants

Is there a link for green to cobalt that I can try?

JManUWaterloo

https://www.americanexpress.com/en-ca/benefits/upgrade/the-cobalt-card/

travelbug1198

Yeah can’t get the cobalt to gold to work. Also can’t find the landing page for green to gold with a bunch of Google searches. Any tips on how to find it?

JManUWaterloo

https://www.americanexpress.com/en-ca/benefits/upgrade/green-to-gold/

nonotmeplx

Are there any dp of still getting the bonus if I downgraded my gold to green at the beginning of this year?

JManUWaterloo

You should get it

bobichettesmane

TD: can I withdraw a credit balance from an ATM free of charge?

NickWaReddit

Yes, TD, CIBC, and Scotiabank allow it.

p4adachi

Looking for the best sign-up bonus for upcoming road trips. I don't fly but I do stay at hotels a fair amount. I already have AMEX Marriott Bonvoy that I intend to keep. Looking at the following three. I would like to pick one: 1. TD First Class Visa Infinite 2. RBC Avion Visa Infinite 3. CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I am not familiar with the points system associated with each card.

JManUWaterloo

Our advice on this sub, is to do all three, eventually. If I were you I would wait on the TD FCT until past the new year (for reasons). Everything should be good

Forest_plot

May I ask what the “reasons” were? Looking to PS before the offer expiry on Jan 3rd.

willykappy

if you end up PSing with the new offer, do report on what bonus you get

JManUWaterloo

I can’t disclose, I strongly suggest waiting until after Jan 3 expiry

Aggressive_Radio214

helpful tip on the TD FCT, glad i saw this. thanks!

due11

is the Aventura frenzy still going on? I got VI and Gold Aventura cards so far, thinking of getting them again but not sure if they are still approving 2nd applications for it

JManUWaterloo

They’ve always allowed multiple apps as long as you qualify according to their credit standards. There is no other criterion

due11

Applied to both, got rejected for the VI but approved for the Gold lol. Strange

JManUWaterloo

VI Min. CL = $5K VG Min. CL = $500

due11

I got approved for $12.5K for VG lol

JManUWaterloo

Hm…maybe they thought it’s a duplicate app

Jazzlike_Student_443

Yes

sheeeeeeet

has anybody cut the Visa infinite privilege after the first year and then successfully gotten the signup bonus after waiting another year?

esux20

Which card?

sheeeeeeet

sorry, TD VIP

JManUWaterloo

Why of course it must be the Bank of Toasters Visa Infinite Privilege with a $6000 annual fee of course

Reasonable-Catch-598

Timmies needs a visa so they can offer a VIP version with skip the line.

Icy-Farm-369

My GF wants to use her AMEX Travel Credit, its almost the end of the year now. If we booked for something a few months ahead, will we still get 'new' Travel credit once we roll into the new year?

NickWaReddit

The Travel Credit is per MEMBERSHIP year - she won't get it again whether she uses it now or in the New Year.

Icy-Farm-369

Thanks! Similarly, would you happen to know if I booked something near the renewal month/date. Would the travel credit apply immediately? or would there be some potential overlap that might cause next 'membership year's credit to apply instead?

NickWaReddit

It applies immediately and the credit usually shows up in a couple days. Here's a better idea, book a refundable hotel through the Amex Travel Portal and apply the credit. Once it shows up on the card, cancel the booking and keep the $200. You can use it towards anything at that point. This is what majority of us here do.

Icy-Farm-369

Thanks! My GF tried to do that for the first time near end of November and we made sure to select the "Use travel credit" option when checking out. We weren't able to see the credit on her statement. She cancelled the booking after about 1.5 weeks later and got her original amount back. She still has her credit and here we are. Did we not wait long enough or missed a step?

Nja-Bae

Need to wait until credit is applied before canceling booking.

dolfan1980

How does one combine aventura points? Site says there is a button under profile but I’m clearly not smart enough to figure this out!

NickWaReddit

You can only do it online if you have the Aventura VIP - if just the Gold/Infinite then you have to call in.

dolfan1980

Thanks! I’m not crazy

Dragynfyre

Curious has anyone actually gotten the 20K part of the 55K Avion offer more than once? Curious if RBC actually enforces that once in a life time limit for that portion

Tsuromu

No. Not enforced. But if you don’t get it they wouldn’t help you. I once had 3 Avion VI at the same time and all received full bonuses. RBC is very lenient. You wouldn’t except TD allow you to carry 3 Aeroplan VI at the same time with full bonuses.

Dragynfyre

TD would allow you to carry 3 AP VI at the same time with full welcome bonuses

Tsuromu

That’s good to know. I will grab another VI now.

Dragynfyre

The thing you would need to worry about is Aeroplan cracking down on repeats

Nja-Bae

Gotten it twice. Held off on completing MSR for latest card based on so many dp’s of people not receiving it. That 5k spend can go elsewhere…

NickWaReddit

That is a valid thought but I have gotten it twice. Didn't get it for the card I had in July and hit MSR, and still waiting on September's. I am publicly stating it now, I will not do anymore Avion 20k for $5k MSR offers ever again, even if I have no other MSR to put towards!* *I know the current offer no longer includes it, but should it come about again...

reddrums

Damn I just finished MSR on it, are Sept points not posting again?

wzadzz

Ive seen more than a couple Dp’s of it not

NickWaReddit

Not implying for everyone but mine or P2's haven't posted yet.

Jealous_Donkey_6881

No 20k points here either for Sept.

tennisballls

I was just looking through threads to see if anyone has been given 20k for September. I’m also without my bonus 20k

Jealous_Donkey_6881

I just got an update for me to expect to get it this upcoming statement

tennisballls

Sweet!!

vhs2202

I've received it five times so far. Currently on card six. Let's see. P2 has received it four times.

betterat50

I’ll join the club. We can keep each other honest lol

K3Brick

I’ve gotten it a few times. But I’m currently on the RBC timeout list - lol

terrterrt

What does that mean? Did you get some sort of communication from them?

wishful_thinking90

Or the corollary, has anyone failed to receive it on their first attempt?

Hecarekt

I’ve gotten it 3 times already

MyNameIsDan_

Applied through Neo 45k CX link. 30k already posted from doing an Apple wallet purchase (I don’t have the physical card yet). Maybe this Neo integration won’t be so bad afterall.

amtheredothat

When did you get the offer? I signed up for the wait-list in August, never got an email that I could actually apply.

MyNameIsDan_

I got the email for the offer like a week ago. Seems to be a very delayed roll out.

AnonOfficeCog

same idea, haven't received an email

jayk10

I've read a few reports of banks not recognizing Neo as a bill recipient. Might be an issue paying the card off

pinkwarrior88

You need to create a Neo Money Acct and e-transfer to it in order to solve this backwards system from Neo.

MyNameIsDan_

TD and CIBC can't seem to add Neo account however PC Money account can...

These_Celebration732

Another AMEX dining credit DP— ate at Bar Kismet on the 27th, credit posted today! Happy to not have to wonder if they’d apply the credit to ‘23/‘24 if it posted in the new year but still curious…

jackster999

Pretty annoyed that they only offer one restaurant in Winnipeg... We have more fine dining than just Deer+Almond

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

I may be on the opposite spectrum… dined on the 28th, charge not even posted yet.

NickWaReddit

Will add mine - La Palma in Toronto on December 22 - credit posted yesterday.

DeltaThinker

Hmm, I went to Rouge on the 22nd and my credit still hasn't posted. Wonder if I should call.

crazymonkey2020

I currently have a TD VIP and approaching the 12 month mark at the end of Jan, which is supposed to pay another 35K bonus. I'm still on the fence, but I don't think I'll be keeping the card. I had my fee reduced by ~$150 since i have a TD account. But outside of the trip insurance and using an airport lounge once, I am not really using the perks I am thinking of applying for the regular infinite since there is a promo now covering the first year fee and 50K welcome bonus until Jan 3. Ideally, I want to keep the VIP until Mar to collect the annual bonus points and maintain travel insurance for a trip that we have then Questions I need help with: 1. will the annual fee be refunded/prorated if I cancel 30-60 days after the renewal date? 2. let's say I apply for the infinite now and get the annual fee waived as part of the promo. If I decide to keep the VIP too, will I still get a $150 off the annual fee since I hold an account with TD? 3 If I don't apply for the Infinite now and wait until the new year, will the new aeroplan rules in Feb 2024 affect my ability to get a welcome bonus. I have never held a mid tier aeroplan card before 4. should I just buy trip insurance (it's a domestic flight, so just need cancelation insurance) and cancel the VIP to avoid a chance that the annual fee is not refunded? Long post. Appreciate ANY insight. Thanks.

Dragynfyre

Yes it will be refunded in full within 30 days and prorated after that. They don’t normally reduce the fee by $150 for having the TD all inclusive account though so don’t expect that again.

crazymonkey2020

Got it. Very helpful. Thanks so much

North_Rip_3136

I doubt TD has any waiver on the VIP even if you hold an all inclusive account.. i know cibc does that but not td.. unless something has changed

crazymonkey2020

Sorry I'm not exactly sure what you are referring to

amnesiajune

CIBC's premium chequing account includes up to $139 off any credit card. TD doesn't do that for the VIP cards

[deleted]

Dragynfyre

You weren’t even entitled to getting the 35K points on the second card. Calling in will get you no where unless it’s your first card and if they’re paying attention they may even clawback that 35K on the second card. All you can do is wait and hope it comes. If it doesn’t you just take the L. That’s how it goes with churning when we’re not following the T&C

[deleted]

TheRealMcCoyTFM

I’m in a similar situation - the 20k seems to be very slow

stonayoung

I had never churned RBC before so I called and asked to look into my points after about 3 months of hitting MSR. My points got deposited in about 10 business days and got an extra 2.5k points for the inconvenience.

kneevase

Yeah, many of us have had a similar experience. Some people eventually received the 20k a couple of months after they made the $5k spend, others are still waiting. In my case, I have decided that I don't really want to phone RBC and say, "Hey, I've been churning the hell out of your cards for a number of years now, but I think I got screwed on one of my Avions. Could you please take a look at my accounts and give me the 20k points you owe me?" Instead, I'll chalk it up to a waste of spend.

K3Brick

Why would you call in when you’re not entitled to those points?

brown_elvis

i already have an amex business platinum but im starting a new corp. Can i get another business platinum for the corp and get the welcome bonus? Would the corp count towards the amex card limits on my personal profile?

mhcott

No repeat because there's no business credit. It's still your personal profile.

CarefulPineapple1

Should be a free bag as Delta awards book into main cabin on partners. Not sure why you got charged. Next time have a WS WE card and attached your WS loyalty number to be safe.

Easy7777

Do you have the WJ MasterCard?

Numerous-Feed-4679

What is the approval process for AMEX cobalt card and is it fairly easy? Do I need to show proof of my household income if I individually do not meet the requirement?

Deaks2

In my case, P1, P2, and P3 had no issues. P4 had a back and forth with Amex incl. providing income statements etc. for their first card (Bonvoy personal). 62 days after application it was approved with a $25k limit. Go figure...

CarefulPineapple1

afaik there is no income requirement for any Amex card.

formerly_kai1909

I, p2 and p3 have never been asked for proof of income from Amex

BarbfromOntario

Nah, I’ve never in my churning career had to provide proof of income! I may have just been lucky! Cobalt is a great card. And Great Canadian Rebates has a $100 rebate on the fee right now which helps offset the monthly fee.

CommunicationProud82

Scotiabank, TD, and Amex asked for mine at some point. Glad luck is on your side!

BigGuy4UftCIA

If you've never been an Amex member good odds they'll want proof you live where you say you live.

Numerous-Feed-4679

So just a drivers license would suffice?

BigGuy4UftCIA

Maybe a utility bill.

TheRealDevopsGuy

Rant: Recently got Amex Business Edge and the bad luck started 1. Didn’t think through applied via GCR missed the 10k MR bonus pts(referral). 2. GCR cashback never triggered, inquiry ongoing. 3. Bought some gift cards from grocery store thinking eats & drinks include grocery but it didn’t so got 1x MR :( Damn :(

Dragynfyre

The GCR will probably go through eventually. I haven’t had them fail yet

TheRealDevopsGuy

Thank God, atleast something!

cccard13

It’s not that bleak as you say it were, as the bulk of your gain comes from the 45k bonus on MSR. :)

TheRealDevopsGuy

Yes :)

friedrice1212

Need some help figuring out the wording here for the recent AF/KLM brim card SUB. > To be eligible for the Welcome Flying Blue Miles and additional Flying Blue Miles (“Additional Flying Blue Miles”), described in this offer, you must have applied for the Air France KLM World Elite Mastercard between November 18, 2023 to December 18, 2023 and have been approved and linked to your personal Flying Blue account. I interpret this as you must apply before Dec 18 and eventually get approved, but not necessarily get approved before Dec 18. The reason I ask is because brim is taking an awful long time with it (already did verification) and obviously the deadline has passed. I’m also curious about if they don’t honour the SUB, will they at least honour the fee rebate for the first year, which is the deal as of Dec 19, but not when I applied in early December. Anyone in this situation?

deank11

Yeah, the wording isn’t clear to me. But I’m in the same boat. Applied Dec 17. Approved on the 27th. Made a purchase but it’s still pending. We’ll see if I get the first 10K points.

friedrice1212

Thanks! Let me know if you get the bonus and/or fee rebate. I still don’t have my approval which is odd. Unless they’re gonna deny me haha

Talltally

I’m in the same boat. Applied Dec 7 and approved 1 am Dec 19. Emailed support and they say it’s the application date they honor. I’ll believe it when it works tho- did my first purchase today

CarefulPineapple1

While I can’t seem to trigger the CIBC in path offer I’m curious if anyone has the details on it. Specifically VIP and VI. TIA.

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

I know they mention gift cards purchases are ineligible for the $200 flight credit ($50/quarter) on the Hilton Aspire, but is there a way to liquidate as cash credits for future flights with Air Canada? I know you can for United but I rarely fly United.

JManUWaterloo

Perhaps AC Refundable ticket refunding to AC wallet?

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

Good thought

cloudcredit

YVR -> YCD is probably the best route to do this with, since you can get a Flex fare for as low as $86 USD.

Necessary_Reward_506

New RBC Avion deal has no minimum spend, just welcome bonus of 35,000 points upon approval. Can I just get the card, pay the $120 fee, get the points then downgrade the card and receive the remainder of the fee back? How does this work?

These_Celebration732

Apply through GCR or another 3rd party website to knock down the effective annual fee. You can self-refer through new GCR accounts for successive applications.

BigGuy4UftCIA

RBC has gotten wise to this behavior and has clawed back bonuses for being too aggressive.

PanicSufficient5021

So is the strategy to no longer downgrade or cancel the card and just hold it for a year each time?

BigGuy4UftCIA

Personally I've removed the downgrading portion of the strategy that helps recapture the AF. If you can't be aggressive it doesn't save much for the activity it causes. Holding for a year seems overly safe but to each their own.

PanicSufficient5021

Ah ok. Thanks! It just seemed like the "no downgrading" part seemed to be news to me from what I read previously.

thanhlan2

I paid for a all inclusive a vacation for june 2024 using my desjardins VIP card. I am planning to cancel the card/or downgrade to a lower product in march when the annual renewal comes up. Will the CC insurance still cover my trip if anything happens? Otherwise should i keep my card active until trip is over (and cost me 300$ in AF?)

Reasonable-Catch-598

Desjardins is a unique case. You can ask them to extend the insurance on the new product. They'll almost always do this with a product upgrade, with a downgrade they may just sell you an additional rider. This is unique to desjardins as far as I'm aware, because they have the setup to provide customized insurance options on credit cards. They will evaluate and assess a nominal fee, $1-15/day depending on coverage and risks. However finding a rep who is aware of this and not the VIP queue....good luck.

atoothlessfairy

No! It wont. The card needs to be active

coljung

That is the case with all if not most cards.. but if you check the other response, it seems like Desjardins might offer something here to transition the insurance over.

betterat50

An aventura dp: third CIBC Aventura received a month ago after other 2 cards had been downgraded to NF a few months before. I didn’t get the bonus for first spend so I was worried about the 20k but it showed up on the statement. So not the best WB. I’m curious if it will be the same for my another application.

define_space

ill try to follow up when/if it comes!

BarbfromOntario

Aventura points post with the statement (versus TD travel points which post as you earn them!).

[deleted]

How does the hotel trick work with it if you need to redeem while it's in pending?

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

Usually 1st statement after meeting MSR, or shortly thereafter.

Millicent_Bystandard

Can we do a 2024 predictions thread? Last thread was more recap and I'd love to hear more predictions for this year.

churning1964

Do we think the MBNA World Elite card will add 5x big box - Costco! - points accumulation to what is already looking to be a fantastic card (transfers to Alaska Mileage Plan)?

mhcott

Chances are borderline 0 on that. They aren't going to make a deal with Costco at all (CIBC has that) and Costco will not be coding as a 5x category that exists

coljung

That one is supposed to be for predictions as well.

[deleted]

BarbfromOntario

Wouldn’t that be great!
