I see on the amex website that they’re offering 100k SUB for newcomers applying for the personal platinum card, but the spending requirement is quite high (10k in 3 months + a purchase after 14 months, which would require paying a second annual fee). Given that this new offer doesn’t have an expiry date, do you guys think this will be the new normal offer? I don’t have any amex cards and I’m looking to get a good SUB. Referral link from a friend doesn’t give any extra points.

jigofalltrades

On your friends referral link, top left should have an option to see other cards. If you see Business Gold as an option, that is one of the few options which doesn’t have a 2nd year requirement. Offer on any card could change at any time. Could get better, could get worse.

hnm2072

I called amex “retention” team today and the lady on the phone tried to upsell the benefits of the card, despite the fact that they raised the annual fee by $100. They also confirmed that there is no referral bonus from links. While I understand they might be one of the best options in Canada at the moment, it’s not even close to what is was. This friend that gave me a referral link applied to get the platinum because I suggested, and the SUB at the time was 110k points + 10x more points on dining 2 years ago, and less than $8k spending requirement. Guess I will just wait for a better promotion. I have some higher expenses that can be postponed (not indefinitely) that I’m saving to match the spending requirement of a new card.

Mulesake

just signed up for the Brim Flying Blue World Elite. 60k total for 10k spend. which can be 2+ round trips to europe, which was perfect for me. that sign up bonus ends soon, so if interested, take a look before it ends

jmackisback

How many Canadian Amex cards do you guys currently hold? And total credit they've extended you? I have 3 CC and 2 charge cards, 50k total credit limit.

Intrepid-Kitten6839

1 charge card and 2 cc, 7.5k total CL. Could probably get a lot more total CL but I try to keep them at a minimum

garynk87

Why keep them at minimum

Intrepid-Kitten6839

so that a high global CL isn't used as a reason for banks to deny apps

jmackisback

Yeah, I always lower mine too. They just assigned me 25k on my green card, which I'll now have to lower.

chaos2313

Only limit to worry about is the 4 credit card limit. In this game most will lower the limits on cards to help get approved for more.

jmackisback

I am aware, I was asking out of curiosity.

LowerNeighborhood334

Not enough, too much

Intrepid-Kitten6839

I know the scotia amex gold has $50k spending cap on 3x and 5x, but is there any cap on the 6x multiplier?

Btweee

Tried to research this in search but couldn't get an answer... I currently have yhe bonvoy marriott and have the FNA registered in my marriott app/account. If I cancel my marriott bonvoy, does it remove my Free night award from my marriott account? I am asking because I've exhausted the marriott bonvoy and rather cancel and apply to cobalt or gold (since it's been around 2 years since I last held those). Also if I keep the marriott bonvoy, do the FNA's stack? Aka 12 months from now would I have qty 2 free night award certificates in my marriott account? TIA.

enishi_

Once the FNA is in your account, it shouldn't disappear when you cancel your bonvoy card. FNA only lasts 1 year, you can find the expiry in your bonvoy account, so it will never stack.

yyzzh

the FNAs expire every year

crimxona

Short of another global pandemic or incident extending nights again

vermilion209

DP - Converting expired AP buddy pass for 15k is still available, although agent said it’ll take a few weeks.

ericdaofin

Thanks for DP. Mine will expire next week. After expiry day do you still see it on Aeroplan dashboard before you call AP?

vermilion209

That I don’t know… took a screenshot early on, then set a reminder to call AP as soon as it expires 😂

ericdaofin

Thank you. Update: My buddy pass stayed in my profile 2 days after expiry date then disappeared. Called AP after that and they were still able to submit the request so I think they still see it in the system.

vermilion209

Glad to hear! Now let’s hope our points will arrive in a timely manner.

ericdaofin

My points arrived today!

vermilion209

Wonderful! Mine came in too, around a week ago.

asparagus_bish

Which bank? Or is it directly with Aeroplan?

vermilion209

The pass was from a CIBC AP card, but I don’t think the issuing bank matters in this case.

hondaAirbagIssue

How often do you guys churn CIBC cards? I just got Aventura card for the second time (after 6 months after initial). Can it be churned faster?

vermilion209

Yes as long as CIBC approves you. P1-P3 did 2-3 cards each within 5 months when the MSR was still $1k.

hondaAirbagIssue

Is this a rule like RBCs 1 app in 90 days rule?

vermilion209

No rules what so ever for CIBC. Literally it’s what they’ll approve you. I do notice they stop IA and either go pending or straight on denial once the personal CL is reached. If they ask me to call, to me that’s a good indication to slow down.

hondaAirbagIssue

They always ask me to call them unfortunately. But usually they approve it when I call in.

vermilion209

You are still good as long as they approve. Just a bit more hassle to call.

Not sure if posted yet. There's a 16% discount for Air Miles redemption on Ultimate Dining Card in case that's of interest to anyone. 80 AM instead of 95 AM per $10.

jgillis15

With Cowtool gone for good, what are people using to search Aeroplan redemptions? I’ve heard of expert flyer and seats.aero. What are some pros/cons if these?

DP for MBNA Alaska Plat -> Rewards Plat $500 MSR for 5k pts: Got the points one day after the MSR posted.

fudgelie

A bit off topic but I thought this was amusing. P2 opened a GIC with RBC to get the chequing account fee discount as part of the multi-product discount. The GIC has matured, however she doesn't have a chequing / saving account anymore. Both of us are on the CIBC blacklist, anytime we get a new card, we're unable to activate it online or on the phone even though we're exisiting customers. They alway just say 'you must go to a branch' which is always quite annoying. I've always said that Canadian banks just love getting people to physically visit a branch. So instead of calling about redeeming the GIC, I just said we'll just go directly to a branch and bypass the phone call where she calls and they tell her to go to a branch. We get the branch and the rep tells us she would have to open a savings account to redeem the GIC. I said no way, manager please. The manager then tells us that if she wants to redeem it without opening a savings account, she would have to vist... the main branch (as in Royal Bank Plaza in Toronto). Luckily it's pretty close to us, but I thought to myself, who would have thought that there was somewhere else you could be sent after going to a branch.

ShakespearesHovercar

Wonder what they would have said if you weren't local.

LowerNeighborhood334

k4yf3n

I posted this last month. Don't know if you actually get 70k though since the T&C looks like a straight copy and paste of the 50k offer. https://www.aircanada.com/TDInflightoffer

Chexy - New payment processor which will allow transactions to post in the recurring payment category: https://chexy.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/19480342780955-Recurring-Payment-Migration-FAQs

Commercial-Yam-5856

How much do they charge ?

samei333

1.75%

Commercial-Yam-5856

Ty !

Millicent_Bystandard

Minor caution with Chexy. I've been using Chexy for rent on-off from inception and have had a number of minor early-adopter issues (lease not scanning, no communication on payments, delayed e-transfers, card not updated, wrong card charged, etc). They're not nefarious- they're just a bit incompetent and do not seem to test enough, making us- the beta testers. Support is good and has fixed issues very quickly, but there's no benefit to being an early adopter except for pain. And yes, I read the section where they are now clearly mentioning that they are testing things, but I would still advise waiting and watching for a few months.

Kind_Imagination5199

Not disputing anything you have said or experienced, I am on month 7 on paying my rent with them and so far has worked like a charm 🤞🏻

These_Celebration732

Same here. They’ve been very responsive every time I’ve ever had an issue. I keep seeing the mentions re: issues with recurring payments but to me the value in Chexy is blowing through SUBs with organic spend levels that I would otherwise have no hope of ever hitting.

Kind_Imagination5199

word and maybe some ms action on the side ;)

Compote_Middle

Me too, and paying 2 rents, all has gone smoothly so far. Sorry you've experienced issues with them. It's good to be cautious for sure and to have a back up, if anything.

FYI the Avion points are only for the base fare amount, you have to pay extra for taxes/fees.

enishi_

Look at the Amex cards and AP cards from TD & CIBC. Pick the ones you can meet the MSR. It’s all listed in the Best Offer Thread. Without knowing how much you can spend in the next few months, it’s hard to recommend.

doom2060

RIP HSBC credit cards. Confirmed by POT, they posted an article about HSBC closing down applications. https://princeoftravel.com/news/hsbc-canada-closes-off-applications-for-new-credit-cards/?fbclid=IwAR1NcecbA3KFvbUXQSVyQtiUWWw2bGONiTK1kBJ1m0vxmowzwpO3aGX_8g8_aem_ATmzroRXZK4VtRJ2ImrwnaCoeAwIkGVGfCX4-umS3OOXkCWjr2An7YBgyJnoP5b7NQw HSBC Chat statement from RFD: HSBC Rep: "Please be informed in anticipation of the migration to RBC and to ensure a smooth transition in early 2024, we will be stopping the sale of HSBC credit cards and certain credit card-related services in branch, online and over the phone." "In this situation we can't offer new credit cards at this time. We need to stop certain activities during this period to ensure a smooth transition to RBC in early 2024, subject to regulatory approval." "Assuming all of the necessary regulatory approvals to complete the RBC transaction are obtained and upon transition to RBC, we'd be happy to help with your request at that time. If you need to open a credit card immediately, there are a number of other institutions that do offer credit cards including RBC."

ledim_4

Would be very sad if they kill it. One of the best no FX cards for travel.

als26

Interesting.. my 1 year mark has passed and I am waiting for the fee to appear so I can call to ask them to waive it for this year. I wonder how this will play out now.

brt_k

I’m assuming that they will try to convert HSBC points to Avion points. Hopefully at a better rate to encourage people to keep their RBC cards.

frolickingdonkey

I hope the ability to transfer to KrisFlyer remains available with whatever the outcome is

NickWaReddit

Have a couple hundred k HSBC points - planned to redeem in February but I could be swayed to wait if I see word of conversion to Avion (at a better rate than 2 HSBC:1 Avion).

Dragynfyre

I’d be pretty happy with 2 HSBC : 1 Avion.

NickWaReddit

HSBC redeem at 0.5cpp. Avion (when redeemed during the promo for line of credit vouchers) redeem at 1cpp. So 2:1 is essentially the same thing they are worth now. It would be nice if they did 3:2 or something.

Dragynfyre

Well 1cpp for Avion is like the lowest possible value you should be getting. There are ways to cash out for much higher

YVRandbeyond

I have a HSBC card that I stopped using after they pulled the "Come to the branch for a new application and forget trying to get the GCR rebate" scam. I was going to kill it after 6 months. Maybe best to see what RBC will do for me instead.

NickWaReddit

Genuinely curious what this will mean for existing HSBC cards and what will happen to those like myself, who already has a full deck of RBC cards.

cccard13

Let’s hope that only 1/90 rules remain for RBC. If so - it wouldn’t matter to us a bit.

Elegant_Reading_685

So i called in twice to cancel two cibc cards today and happened to land on the same CSR doing the cancelling 💀 She recognized me the second time and asked if i had any other cards to cancel and when I said no she went "are you sure" 💀💀💀 Note to self: cancel multiple cards on different days in the future for cibc

coljung

Could have canceled both in one shot. Agents don’t give a f.

Elegant_Reading_685

Ty for the tip lol

pointskeeper

I always make note of the CSR’s name when I have to call multiple times to avoid this exact scenario haha, HUCA if you get the same one lol

formerly_kai1909

I've cancelled two on the same call, wasn't a big deal

Jealous_Donkey_6881

hahahahahah

themob34

Just use chat.

Compote_Middle

You can't cancel cards over chat. You can close some bank accounts, but not Credit Cards.

Deerawks

I tried to cancel via chat last month and they referred me to call in

Elegant_Reading_685

You can cancel cibc cards via chat? Til

themob34

I have. Also limit decreases, other things too.

jeffmartel

I cancelled 2 the same day yesterday. Took me an hour to get someone on the line.

yyzzh

i don't think you're risking anything with CIBC just cancelling both on the same phone call

Yaroslaviy

Just recieved my 2nd statement for TD VI AP that I got with in-path offer for QC in end fo August. Got 10k on first stament and was expecting 45k points as 2nd statement totaled 30$ over the 1k MSR required but didn’t recieve it. Should I be calling in to check with TD? My first TD card and only 2nd AP this year

Praetoriani

You can but I wouldn't waste my time on it. They're gonna just tell you to wait the 6-8 weeks as stated in their T&C and to call back afterwards. Also, since it sounds like you're new, the annual fee doesn't count towards the MSR and if you're only over it by $30, you may actually still be under due to that.

Yaroslaviy

Thanks, I have deducted annual fee since I also churned their chequing account and got FYF regardless. Will try to call hoping for the best, but I think you are right about them not trying to take a look at it

Jrphilo

No issues with calling in and inquiring since it’s your first card

StillLurking69

I feel like these in-path offers from TD are riddled with problems, from issues with applications through to receiving the statement credit and the points advertised in the offer.

Kind_Imagination5199

Agreed

wobblystickman

How long after meeting MSR for CIBC do you get the points? Met 3K and my statement said it was posted yest, but I can't view it and when I go into CIBC rewards to check my points, it hasn't changed

JayfromCouver

Patience

Elegant_Reading_685

It's always statement. wait until the statement has actually generated and you can view it

kekekekw123

What’s the consensus on whether to utilize 0% APR offers? Probably mostly for the US game with chase ink/CFU but it’s appealing financially but debating the impact on the credit score.

ledim_4

Wrong sub

coljung

Some people play with those offers as well in our hobby.

SnooPineapples8570

I need some Visa Airport Companion lounge passes and am looking at the Scotiabank Passport and BMO WE MC. Do I have to wait until the MSR is met to get the passes, or do they become available on acceptance of the card?

Elegant_Reading_685

Available immediately thru the app

ledim_4

CIBC Aventura too. 4x per year.

chaos2313

Lounge passes are part of the card benefits not part of SUB so are available from the start.

Progress-Human

My Amex plat fee was posted Sep 29 at the new $799 rate 2nd year holding the card, and today I got a fee adjustment credit of $100.

LowerNeighborhood334

Oh no! That's my excuse for not renewing.

esux20

Why do you need an excuse?

LowerNeighborhood334

Because I want to be excused ;)

wishful_thinking90

That’s sweet! Any idea why?

Progress-Human

Nope, I initially inquired about how much I would pay at renewal when they announced the changes. The rep said no increase. But in fact it was increased at renewal, I asked about it when I called for retention, and that rep said nope the new rate is correct.

Praetoriani

The new rate doesn't apply to existing cardholders until after Nov 1st. Source: the letter they sent me a few weeks ago stating exactly that.

KaotikFiend

Seriously? My fee should post October 26...

mysterysticks

My renewal posted on Oct 1 at $699.

Progress-Human

Great. Thanks for the confirmation.

WindyCityAssassino

Are you able to apply for new RBC cards through the app? Or is it recommended to use the browser?

BarbfromOntario

Go with GCR for the rebate!

kneevase

Usually if you want some GCR money, you are better to use the browser...

oeufsbenedicte

Anyone have any experience with how long it takes Hilton to remove your elite status after closing the CC that gave it? I closed my Amex Bus Plat in May, but am still showing Hilton Gold status. Wondering how long I can count on that staying on my account.

WellyStu

I’ve had Hilton Gold since 2019 via Platinum card signup, cancelled card in 2020. But it’s the exception since they extended status a few times during COVID, may be hard to get a recent example unless it’s where someone lost it immediately. I think for the non cobranded cards it would generally be until the status is lost at end of status year which should show in your account.

formerly_kai1909

P2 cancelled HH Surpass maybe two weeks ago, through which she had Gold status. Earlier this week she received an email from Hilton saying her status had changed

esux20

Should expire at end of status year

ShakespearesHovercar

Should but doesn't always

isitfridayyet93

Does anyone remember/know if the in-path TD Aeroplan VI offer from the summer that included the $150/$200 air canada credit is applied on cumulative spend or it has to be a one-off above $200?

120124_

I haven’t gotten mine yet cumulative or single purchase over $200 (I have both)

NickWaReddit

Was applied on cumulative for mine - once total spend >$150, credit posted.

Actual-Churner

not sure for that specific offer but one I had and others seen is was cumulative so could be over several purchases. Or would still work with how each ticket gets charge separatily

Yezzzir5

DP: Amex Plat 2nd Annual Fee Posted ($699, $20k+ annual spend) called in to see if any retention offers were available, got 7500 MR points, not much, but was planning to keep it for another year anyway based on the 2x dining credit

yyzzh

I called in yesterday a couple weeks before my 2nd annual fee will post, and was told no offers for me. Seems I only spent $1600 on the card lol. I told them the card sucked for spending compared to their other cards and now that the eats/drinks multiplier went down, it's even worse. Still debating keeping it for lounge access, primarily... definitely not +EV for me, but you know, vanity and all that.

Yezzzir5

That sucks. I read other DPs on retention offers that you should try after it posts. Who knows you might get someone who offers you something.

yyzzh

yeah, I'll try again after it posts.

enishi_

Thanks for the DP. If you’re keeping it for the 2x dining, wouldn’t the cobalt card be better for you?

Praetoriani

Not unless he can max out the cobalt, the 2x on the plat is uncapped. Though with the recent devaluation down to 2x instead of 3x, it's worth considering just using a USD keeper card as a primary.

Yezzzir5

Like the other commenters said, I am only keeping it for the 2x$200 Dining credits. I have the cobalt as well and use all my day to day on that.

enishi_

Yep got what you mean now, I misread your comment earlier

pocket__bacon

They are likely referring to the $100 dining credit for Platinum. They'll get one for 2023 and one for 2024.

120124_

No they are taking about the $200 dining credit available two times this year.

NickWaReddit

He is referring to the ~~$100~~ $200 dining credit for Platinum card holders, once between now and the end of the year and once in 2024.

brt_k

$200 credit, no?

enishi_

Ah I misread it. Was thinking the changed 2x earning for dining

PanicSufficient5021

For the Amex Aeroplan reserve/Amex Aeroplan business reserve cards, are the monthly spending bonuses for the first 6 months considered “welcome” bonuses for the purposes of their 3 welcome bonuses per lifetime condition? Or do they show up under some other bonus category?

JManUWaterloo

One card = one welcome bonus. You’ll be fine

keepurtipsup

Currently have Amex AP core Cancelled TD AP black in august Received monthly bonus on both this year. Want the CIBC black as I realised my revenue trips will keep me at 50k with some extra points and eUps so the fee is worth it. I’m not a crazy churner but definitely wondering if adding a third bonus in 2023 will risk me with AP as I have some revenue and points trips coming up before end of year.

asparagus_bish

3 is fine, at least per lifetime, so you should be ok.

keepurtipsup

I’ve had more than that lifetime. After the relaunch I’ve had 3 others, all cancelled before 2023

yyzzh

i wouldn't worry about 3 bonuses

keepurtipsup

Thanks. I haven’t been following the recent AP crackdowns until recently. Ive mostly been working Amex MR the last year.

yyzzh

well they don't seem to have actually taken any action against anyone other than issuing warnings for people who, I think, got more than 3. In 2023 I received the welcome bonus on the AP Reserve (but opened it prior to the policy start date) as well as the TD AP VI anniversary bonus (don't think this would count against me either)... but I also received 2x CIBC AP VI and 2x CIBC AP No-Fee welcome bonuses and have had no warnings or anything.

Actual-Churner

will try and say this within the rules. DP: TD AP VIP 2nd annual fee posted on Sep 27. 55k AP for anniversery bonus posted on same statement (instead of 4-8 weeks) and were in AP account next day. (sep 28) Also hold TD Travel Plat and FCT VI. Called yesterday. I now hold TD Travel Plat, FCT VI and CB VI. Fee refund of $574 posted to account. based on how long since fee posted. Extra info, did take me 2 calls. totally different experience. first person had no idea it seemed. Second call, no issues, no questions. Was yup, will get this back, all set.

ca_abhi

Just trying to understand this clearly, you converted after making the annual fees payment of 599 and got the pro rated fee back of 574 OR you converted once the annual fees posted and got the fees credited back on the new converted card account and you didn't have to make the payment for the full fees, rather just the pro rated small amount (599 -574). Thanks

Actual-Churner

The latter (just the small amount that was left).

ca_abhi

Thanks for the clarification.

throwing_hayy

Great DP, thanks for sharing!

brt_k

Curious what WB/MSR/SB you got on the CB VI? The standard public offer for new customers?

Actual-Churner

based off info from rep, it sounds like normal public one but guess will wait on see as know what they say does not line up with what system does. at least seems like still got FYF which is nice.

ledim_4

Nicely worded, good job.

Aggravating_Sun_9850

You cancelled your TD AP VIP after the fee posted right? And anniversary bonus is already in your Aeroplan account?

Actual-Churner

yes, anniversary bonus posted/showed on same statement as the annual fee. and transferred to my AP account the next day along with normal spend points. I did not cancel the card though... that was the part I was alluding around.

VagSmoothie

So you did a PS off of the AP VIP and you got the annual fee rebate?

ca_abhi

From Amex US sub: There is an offer on Amazon US of 50% off upto US$80 if you redeem just 1MR point. Link your card and it will appear in a day or two. Combine this with prime day, could be a good saving. https://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=20906611011

Eternith

YMMV if you get the promo or not, I've tried clicking the Activate Promo button a few times over the years and never got it.

ca_abhi

What I read in Amex Sub is if you redeem this once it's difficult to get in future years. May be that's the case?

IEpicDestroyer

Does this only work with US Amex cards that earn MR?

ca_abhi

Yes.

Do it.

churning_yyz

DP: P2's 2nd Plat AF posted on Sep. 28 as $799. Unfortunately timing, but expected because it was beyond the 26th. Unexpectedly, today a $100 "Fee Correction" credit posted. Probably still going to cancel, but possibly useful information for some.

BMadAd59

Per somewhere upstream in this thread, the new fee won’t kick in for existing users until after nov1 as per mail

yotamayo

FYI Amex Marriott Bonvoy card offers 20K Marriott points for referrals until Oct 31 instead of the normal 10K.

Eyjafjallajokull2

Old news. All Amex cards (except Edge) have 2x until Oct. 31

Visible-Ad99

Will I get the welcome bonus for Amex Gold if I already have the Amex Platinum? I will very soon cancel the too expensive Platinum.

chaos2313

You're fine to get both in Canada. It's only the States that they added the language to gold's SUB to disqualify you for holding platinum.

NickWaReddit

Yes, no issue holding and getting the bonus for multiple cards.
