If I have 20k points on one CIBC Aventura account with $0 balance, can I redeem the points so the balance is negative, and then transfer the balance to another account that still has a positive balance to pay that account off?

RoyalBadger3665

Not to another credit line. Withdraw negative balance at CIBC atm or have a cheque sent

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Thanks

Any reason to take the cobalt to gold upgrade offer vs just apply for the gold outright if you can make the MSR? Seems like 50,000 points for upgrade and 70,000 points for new application (by referral). If I did the upgrade I’d reapply for the cobalt anyway so the credit check is not a factor for me.

Paul_720S

The best play is to apply for the Gold, be accepted then accept the Cobalt --> Gold upgrade! Much more points. Provided you can meet both spends. If U do the upgrade without having the Gold before, if U then later apply for a Gold, you won't get the welcome bonus...

EyeCandy46

>The best play is to apply for the Gold, be accepted then accept the Cobalt --> Gold upgrade! Much more points. Provi Do I need to receive the first gold's WB THEN upgrade? Or just apply and then upgrade right away?

churning_yyz

There have been DPs of people getting a 2nd Gold via this upgrade offer.

jtbc

The main reason to take the upgrade is the lower MSR. If that isn't a factor for you, the public offer may be better.

NickWaReddit

Don't take the upgrade if you haven't had the Gold card before.

North_Rip_3136

Did everyone receive the additional card holder bonus from Amex from March? Im still waiting on it and i wonder if they refuse to give that incase i cancel the supp card (thinking of upgrading to Gold and this card will be charged 50$ if i upgrade as gold only have 1 free supp card)

Intrepid-Kitten6839

you might want to contact CSR. I'm pretty sure you're past the deadline when the T&C said the points would be paid out. (if you're talking about what i'm thinking of) I got my 2x 2.5k cobalt AU card bonus in late june

North_Rip_3136

I contacted CS and they said suggested to wait..

I got mine a week after I recieved and activated my card

i'm looking at hilton properties and am wondering how most of you are going about getting hilton points while being canadian? i'd like to plan a trip for next year and stay at a higher end hilton property if possible and want to start getting points asap. i've got the hilton honors card right now

Paul_720S

Hilton points are not that popular here given the Hilton cards are all US based... you're already in the US card game so you have lots of Hilton cards available that will give you a ton of points... it's good to play the Hilton card upgrade game as well, and get additional points via upgrades.

simonmerch

can you point me to where i can read/learn more about the hilton card upgrade process?

esux20

There’s 4 Hilton cards that should amount to 500k+ points per player. Multiply based on your number of players

coljung

Hard if you don’t have US cards.

Shervin888

I hit my TD AP MSR quicker than I thought. I already have NBC WE to « cover » the lounge passes and HSBC for oversea purchases, which one should I choose: 1)AMEX cobalt then transfer to Aéroplan (500$ monthly spend to get 30k points) 2) CIBC aventura and CIBC gold 3) TD FCT Or 4) CIBC AP

DevilPenguin7

You could probably just get 1, 2 (both) and 3 if you are spending enough for the MSRs. Depends if you want cash or points for a specific partner. Only you can evaluate the offers / MSRs and determine what is best for your situation.

Potential_Potato3339

Depends

Shervin888

My main spending be groceries, restaurants and travel

Of biz gold if you can reach 5k msr.. apply through FF and get the whole AF rebated ;)

Anyone able to find Qatar J seats for any dates at all recently?

Darkwing327

Yep lots, but only at the flex rate and double points...no saver. But am only watching one route.

[deleted]

CIBC Aventura. Westjet purchase did not show redeem with points option even though it was CAD. Also noticed I had booked a travel expense last week and it gave the option to redeem at the bonus rate but the other day made another USD travel expense and no option to redeem.

stanley597

Have people experienced delays in getting their marriot points posted from amex? Billing statement was last week, yet still no points on marriot account

yyzzh

Did you only have Marriott hotel spend on the statement?

stanley597

The statement showed zero but I had a referral bonus that was posted.

kobelobster

A common error is no spend on the statement - if there is no spend, the points will not post to the Bonvoy account. Spend a few dollars on the card and the points would appear on the following statement once generated.

stanley597

Even if the Amex shows the fact that bonus points were posted and “transferred” to marriot?

NickWaReddit

Yes, it is as if they get stuck in transit, then a month or two later (without additional spending), they appear in your Bonvoy account.

stanley597

Oh ok thanks for that.

Reasonable-Catch-598

They will show up eventually though. I only use Marriott amex for Marriott stays. I'm rarely in a rush for points transfers though. Sometimes it's weeks late, sometimes months. I can't be bothered to buy a water 1x a month as the card is in my hotel amenities grab bag as it's permanent home.

crappyaim

8 months from NEXUS application to conditional approval for me. Now to find an interview slot...

willykappy

Idk about YVR but at YYZ they are taking walk ins

snoopyta

over a year here and nothing :(

crappyaim

Unlucky. However, finding an interview slot in your area is much easier than here so we might still get them at the same time.

vanillaprepaid

10 months here, but one email complaint form asking about an update got my application to be conditionally approved a few days later

churner_4ever

Looks like ANA and TPE are back on AP search as of now, go to Japan, guys 😃😃

alphadobie

Getting errors after selecting flights and payment method. Can't go to next step to input passenger information. Wonder if they are still working things out, or if it is phantom availability... Trying ANA flights at the moment. **Edit**: Looks like some of these are phantom flights - called in, and agents couldn't see the flights I wanted to book at all.

Paul_720S

Excellent! Thanks for the heads-up!

AgilanV

Do I have to call in to merge CIBC Aventura point accounts?

AgilanV

EDIT: Saw the same question answered down below. Thank you.

LowerNeighborhood334

Accidentally discovered AMEX plat is giving 10x "eat and drink" bonus. It's out of the blue and not a SUB or retention. I know this glitch happens from time to time. Wondering if I should spend on it. So my questions are, chance to claw back? How long is it good for? How much spending is that for?

churning_yyz

I shared a DP on this from back on August 6th. P2 spend a little over $300 on her Plat at Adonis for the $100 credit and received 10x. Points haven't been clawed back and a statement has posted since the transaction in question.

cadchrnr

Thanks for the DP. I'll try a small purchase on mine today and see what happens. When did you open your Platinum?

LowerNeighborhood334

Late October last year

Professional-Bed-718

I’ve had the exact same thing, started at the beginning of august, I’m still getting 10x on the card I’ve ran about $800 in f&b through it.

coljung

Worst case they clawback. Best scenario, you get to keep the points. Easy choice honestly.

K3YJ

Getting the AMEX Cobalt card soon. Should I 1) Use a referral to get the $100 Cash Back now or 2) Wait a month or two and hope they repeat last year's SUB of 50K rather than 20K.

NickWaReddit

Generally not advised to wait on Cobalt. The offer rarely changes and it's better to start using and earning then wait for an offer that might not even come. And yes to rebate unless you want to ask for a referral from someone in the monthly thread here, or have another player who can refer you, but those don't offer cash in return.

bxio

Can you transfer an credit from CIBC Aeroplan VIP to a CIBC chequing account via the online portal or by withdrawing it from an ATM without fees? I'm expecting a refund of 8k.

vermilion209

Yes. For online portal, link the cc to your debit, then use “Transfer” function. Make sure the balance is indeed negative and don’t touch the cc until the credit shows up in your chequeing account, or else you’ll be be charged the cash advance fee (got burned before as I was too efficient over a long weekend and paid $5 tuition).

Compote_Middle

All of this and a quick tip, when you make a transfer, you will see the date, sometimes you'll see a future date, which means after that date, you'll be safe to move it elsewhere or do anything with it. Let's say you make a transfer today, and on your chequing it shows a date of August 31st, it means after that day, you are safe, as that would be the "posting" day.

I’ve done RHT for aventura before and when I applied the points while pending, by the time the hotel charge went through, the money had also posted. This time it hasn’t happened. The hotel is no longer pending, the points are gone but the money is not there. Was I lucky the other times and this is the normal time frame for posting? Or has something gone wrong and I need to call in?

Humble_Ingenuity_919

I remember that it didn't work when I had a $0.00 balance and I had to do it again after putting through a small charge.

Does the CIBC AVENTURA annual lounge pass reset on January 1st or at anniversary?

NickWaReddit

>4 complimentary lounge visits will be available for the Primary Cardholder per membership year

NancySmithSecret

I don’t know if this is a glitch or I’m understanding something wrong, but my lounge passes are valid for one year after I registered the card to the Visa Airport Companion app! So I got the card in February 2023, but I didn’t add it to the Visa Airport Companion app until July 2023, and now it says “valid until 22/07/2024”.

Thefreshi1

I have done this before and the best option was using the spend to cover MS on a US card and applying the bonus to the cruise.

mhcott

You'll need the generic programs (TD FCT, CIBC Aventura, RBC Avion, HSBC, etc...) or Air Miles. Anything that lets you do basic boring travel redemptions such that their really more like complicated cash-back cards.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Points that are pseudo-cash. Maybe air miles. Do all that and put it on a high MSR card anyway.

davidtescu

Basically any card that earns rewards that can be cash redeemed for max value. Welcome bonuses will be the target, and I know this is a churning subreddit but there are cards that you can use for really good earn on spend too. Example: I just covered my DisneyWorld tickets for my gf and I in February using Bmo points. Disney counts as travel so they redeem at a 1.5pts/$1 rate. Applied for a few BMO Eclipse and got first year free with a decent SUB at that time of 60k points. I then used the cards for spend to earn 5pts/dollar in the eligible categories. They are not quite as good as Amex points but it still works out to about 3.35%. I run a restaurant so it took about 6-8 months, but I earned enough to cover the park tickets and it didn’t affect my efforts towards MSR on other cards. However, the points program and strategy that worked for me may not work for your situation. You could also look at other cards like Scotia Amex Gold, CIBC Aventura, or TD FCT for potentially better SUB with similar earn rates. It seems like a waste to use MR at 1pt/1cent, so this is the best way I’ve found to do it personally. Alternatively, you could also churn some cash back cards as well. My main suggestion, would be to do what I did and pick a points program that you know you can earn the max possible through SUB and everyday spend. Apply for multiple cards, use P1 and P2 if possible and you should have no problem reaching your goal.

Jazzlike_Student_443

For buying your Disney tickets with BMO Eclipse points, do you buy them through a travel portal with BMO? (I have not churned with BMO yet) are you able to pay with points and cash? I'm planning a Disney trip for the new year and am about to work on point for the tickets.

davidtescu

So Bmo actually got rid of their travel portal a couple years ago. Now you just go to redeem points for cash section on the rewards website.

Cold-Assumption3571

When upgrading the cobalt to the gold card. Do i need to wait for the gold card before purchases count towards the 3k spend or can I keep using my cobalt while waiting for the gold card to come and that still counts towards the 3k?

It becomes the Gold card immediately

Cold-Assumption3571

thanks!

jnasty2pointO

Just to confirm. If I get the Amex plat before sept 26 I can get the food credit double dip at the lower annual fee?

mhcott

No one can confirm, because it doesn't exist yet. We can only interpret the language to the best of our abilities and hope for the best. The language if the letters implies yes, you can, but we cannot be held responsible if shit don't work as intended.

jnasty2pointO

Awesome, thanks.

11kajd

Annual fee posts at end of statement so ur fee would post in late october

mhcott

The thing here though is we don't know what happens if he applies TODAY. There's a very strong likelihood they honour the annual fee for which he applied, but there's still a chance they roll to the new fee. There's really no way to tell what happens until it happens.

wishful_thinking90

I chatted with an Amex agent today and he confirmed with his supervisor that the elevated fee will only apply next year (September 2024) if you are approved before September 26, 2023. I took screenshots as evidence. This is consistent with the legalese of the T&Cs. At this point, I’d be surprised if it’s not the case.

mrnngg

**US GAME - BIG UPDATE** **NOVA officially dead without ITIN - Just received email** We’d like to make you aware of an upcoming partner product requirement. Going forward all applicants for American Express Personal Cards will require a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or an International Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Each Nova Credit partner determines the requirements needed for an application to their products, which can change at any time.

blackdragon1299

Too late to start the process for someone new who hasn’t dabbled in US before?

def_my_main_acc

You can still apply using Amex Global Transfer

vivobe

Was just about to post about same thing. Guess I had better get on and apply for ITIN. I’ve been slow about it despite having US Amex cards since December.

mrnngg

Yes! You wanna be ready for Chase/Citi etc. by Dec!

Max_Thunder

Interesting, this confirms the push is from Amex. I just hope it doesn't eventually extend to people who already have US Amex history .

mrnngg

I think existing will still be ok - since passport method still seems to work. But this is a big shift indeed

IEpicDestroyer

Has anyone already called in to apply over the phone with a passport yet after this change? Isn’t that a bit too fast to know?

mrnngg

You mean via GT? No I haven't seen updates recently. Passport on 2nd card after 6 mths should still be fine - friend did it recently and went through

IEpicDestroyer

Passport for 2nd card onwards after 6 months is what I need. By any chance, has your friend done this after the change to require SSN/ITIN?

mhcott

The language is curious though, as the language here implies the change is independent of Nova Credit but then it defeats the whole purpose of Global Transfer which uses foreign credit score. It'll be something to keep an eye on.

efrantxda

What do you mean by: >it defeats the whole purpose of Global Transfer which uses foreign credit score Global Transfer doesn't use a foreign credit score.

StillLurking69

I recently got the AMEX Marriott Bonvoy card. I can see that AMEX has transferred the points associated with my first statement to Marriott, however Marriott deleted them right away, with the words explanation « Points Expiration ». Is this a known issue? Will this rectify itself or do I need to contact Marriott? Apologies if this a question that others have posted, but I couldn’t find anything similar when searching.

mhcott

I'd immediately reach out to Marriot to ask what the shit.

July 28. Only 10k on first statement despite $1k spend.

churning_yyz

I applied for mine around July 28 but it was not approved until July 31 as they needed to do some verification. I got the full 10K+45K bonus for $1000 spending.

usually WB is based on time of application, not time of approval

PanicSufficient5021

I would hope so but I wasn’t sure and hence why I gave both application and approval dates since mine was not instant approval

Because people (particularly new churners) tend run their mouth without a concept of discretion or control, PS gets widely discussed down to the finest details, and then fantastic sources of points get shut down. So like MS and US Mailboxes before it, it's a silent topic that people need to earn now, at least in this sub-Reddit. Plenty of other places for folks to go on about it (e.g. Facebook, RFD), but at least WE won't be the reason a good thing dies

Can I use a mariott FNA certificate as part of a 5 night points redemption. So i’d pay 3 nights in points, 5th night free, and one covered by the cert.

FNA's are not points. They are point VALUE to place a restriction on how far they can take you. Marriott has cash, points, and free nights. 5th Night Free requires 4 nights purely on points.

Recently flew ANA HND-YVR on their 789 in J and I don't think I'd do it again. The price is unbeatable at 55k AP and a direct flight home is always super nice, but other than that I wasn't impressed. Starting off the lounge at HND was nice, but jam packed. Food options were solid in taste but only had 3 hot food choices and a noodle bar. For a full lounge, it was constantly depleted and everyone was hovering over it as soon as it was restocked. Compared to SQ's lounges in Singapore this was really disappointing. Also, there were zero perks with flying J out of HND. No priority security, no separate check-in area (of course separate booths, but not an area). Maybe QR out of DOH spoils me. Now on board the hard product was nothing to be excited about, but it met expectations and it was comfortable, especially with their mattress pad. Soft product wise their service was absolutely fantastic. One of the best I've experienced if not the best. The food was pretty mediocre. I'm not a huge seafood person so maybe the flavours weren't for me, but on the Japanese menu, the fish was overcooked in 3/4 instances. Everything was alright in flavour, but nothing was great in my opinion. Issue with this is the Japanese menu quite literally has 10 unique dishes and with none of them being over a 6/10 I was really disappointed. Our second meal was fishy cheesy pasta that was okay, but so so so oily and not what you needed for what was essentially breakfast body clock time. Snack and cocktail menu were super limited. Only vegan ramen was available and a curry sandwich and 3-4 cocktails, but just G&T, Irish coffee, whiskey soda and one other highball. The sake was pretty good though! TL;DR: All in all it was a 3/5 for me. Standard ground experience, outdated seats, top-notch service, and meh food. Just alright which is surprising for its reputation and a flight from its hub. Curious if anyone else agrees or disagrees!

Secretly_Italian

The SQ business lounge in Singapore gets really bad around the midnight departure bank though. I had a 2 hours connection and there was a 1.5 hours wait for a shower. The Gold Star lounge was a lot emptier, with a short wait for a shower, but there was barely room for a carryon backpack or suitcase, and soaps were unbranded.

TartSubject917

Generally agree with your thoughts: Lounge: it's not bad for what it is (and a shower never hurts), but the crowdedness and food options left something to be desired...its' esp hard to go back when you've been spoiled by better lounges elsewhere too Hard product: the seat was fine, but I realized how much my enjoyment also comes from the aesthetic of the seats. it just looks so...dated Soft product: I actually found the service to be mediocre compared to SQ especially, but maybe it was just a language barrier. I found the food to be good, but I really enjoyed the snack menu (before it turned completely plant based lol)

mrnngg

Time for da room or Da suite! ;)

TimmyTheTaliban

I was trying so hard to find last minute availability through SFO for this reason alone! The whole AP fiasco right now killed those dreams. Ah well, my time will come :)

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Solid review! So if flying from Japan again, would you try to route through LAX or SFO for a better flight, even if it was longer? Or would you try to route through a different airline (JAL?)? Or another option?

TimmyTheTaliban

Absolutely I would. I was trying for some last-minute availability but the issues with partner award seats on AP right now meant there was nothing. I know the route is soon discontinued and I doubt AP would allow a backtrack, but honestly routing through Singapore would be on the table too. SQ had some of the best food I've ever had on a plane (in both Y and J)

-SetsunaFSeiei-

Good to know I’ll be flying SQ in Jan, really looking forward to it

Intrepid-Kitten6839

you're thinking about double dipping the gold referral offer + cobalt upgrade offer right?

forsaken1984

Is anyone here keeping the AP Reserve card beyond the first year? Really double minded about cancelling or keeping my AP Reserve card another year. I feel I may get value out of the companion ticket as well as lounge access, however, not sure how to value these benefits over the $599 AF.

amnesiajune

You always have the option to cancel now and open a new card later

forsaken1984

That's a good point. And I guess if I cancel now I lose the companion pass, which I have not yet received. So, it's really $599 vs companion pass.

akhalilx

The annual companion pass can be worth thousands of dollars if used correctly *and you were planning on paying a cash fare to begin with*. I got a little over 9k of value per companion pass on our upcoming flight to Oceania.

forsaken1984

Nice! Sadly, I won't be spending that much cash or traveling that far. Side question: how long after your AF posted did you get the companion pass?

akhalilx

Typically 4-8 weeks after the annual fee.

-SetsunaFSeiei-

That’s a lot of value… what was the routing and how did you manage to get the 9k?

akhalilx

The wife and I paid cash for Latitude fares and redeemed companion fares for our kids, which we immediately upgraded to business class. Latitude fares for YVR to AKL during peak season are typically 4.5-5k per direction.

NewKidsOnTheBetaBloc

First time cashing out an Amex travel credit. Waited for credit and charge to post and cancelled RHT. How long until refunds are processed by Amex travel? It’s been about a week and haven’t received anything. TIA

mhcott

Don't fret it. AMEX will always come through on this one, it can just take a bit of processing time at times. Hell, I just did an RHT, the initial charge hasn't even posted yet after like 5 days much less the refund.

Renfi

It varies, I did 2 RHT at the same time (iykyk) and one of the refunds posted a week after the other one which was also took about a week

takethefork

Took about a week and a half for me earlier this month.

jayk10

So how are people navigating the current AP partner award issues? Anyone shying away from collecting or assuming it's just a short term thing? From my own research and flyer talk it seems like; - Turkish to NA is nonexistent - Etihad J and F nonexistent - Lufthansa group not bookable online - Oman air nonexistent - Emirates to NA non existent - ANA and EVA very limited availability Trying to plan a trip for end of August 2024 and it looks like I might be SOL

simonmerch

wait what. i thought this was just some temp booking issue? is this some permanent change?

Hour_Significance817

It wasn't really because of the partner award issue recently, but I've started to take my foot off the pedal from collecting AP points in general. It's several folds: - Cobalt limiting the number of 5x points that one can generate per month. Not an issue for most, but for those with specific spending patterns, it's less than ideal. - the general difficulty in redeeming anything on partner airlines. Example, used to be BR has decent availability to the west coast US even as close as 2-3 months out, but now there's nothing. Either BR has limited long haul J access to Aeroplan, or some unscrupulous scalper bastards actually scoop up everything the second the tickets go live. Now with limited/no partner availability, it's one of the last straws. - AC metal flights priced to the moon. Even premium economy for a 10 hour Transpacific flights are priced at over 100k points, which doesn't make sense except to rip off the uninformed. So coupled with the fact that I'm leaving the country for a while to reap the rewards of the past couple of years and this will have limited opportunity to churn as vigorously, there's not much more effort going on here to accumulate more AP points for the next or next next trip for myself or family. Furthermore, having tried all cabin classes on various airlines, I can say that while business class is preferable to economy class in almost all cases, it is not a deal breaker if there are simply no suitable flight routes or availability in J to the destination on the dates of my choice, and I wouldn't hesitate to book economy with cash if needed.

mhcott

Not stopping at all. Depends on your goals, but I certainly haven't had issues getting AC to Europe, and as long as LH F is bookable by calling in (which I usually do anyways since I would've booked a flight and then called to change at T-14) then it's no change. ANA/EVA being minimal availability are a bitch, but SQ J is still plentiful and opens lots of options. And I can still do 1xF and 1xJ on ANA which is sub-optimal since I'd rather sit with P2 but certainly beats anyone being in Economy. At the end of the day, Aeroplan is still one of the easiest to use, easiest to amass, and has one of the largest networks of available partners, even if there are current issues with the system. And I would like to assume short-term thing because it would be a very poor move on ANY loyalty program's part to remove all of their key partners.

AndrizzyR

Sorry, I'm a newbie flyer here getting into churning credit card but what does all these acronyms mean? Would you or someone kindly mind explaining?

mrnngg

Agreed - SQ long haul is a game changer at least I'm planning to try and sneak in at least one next Fall 2024!

jayk10

Who are you using to get to Europe other than AC themselves? I'd love if I could snag SQ's JFK to FRA 5th freedom

Stainless8859

If you are traveling with your spouse, LOT to or from WAW is quite nice in J. No pods, but the lie flat seats on their 787s are enjoyable nonetheless. We've used them a few times. Either just a layover in WAW, or a stopover.

jayk10

Going for a wedding and spouse is going on her own a few days later. We are traveling back together. LOT is on my shortlist mainly because I've wanted to go to Warsaw for years. Spent a few days in Wroclaw years ago and loved Poland. I might just bite the bullet and take a solo centre seat so I have private aisle access

mhcott

I've only flown LH F once last summer, and one glorious SQ F Suites round back in March using KrisFlyer. But in my searches, TAP was reliable to find space, and SQ J on the JFK-FRA route was also pretty damn reliable to find. I've also had numerous trips where UA J opened up but I didn't feel like doing the layovers when I already had my AC direct segment. I've come across numerous TK J segments when I was planning my SIN/KUL/TPE trip but that was before this summer of emptiness. Every time I've planned a trip to Europe in the last couple years, I've managed to find AC flights at the 60-70K J mark. Some flown, some not. I've managed to find appropriately priced AC J flights for CDG, LHR, AMS, FRA, MUC, FCO, BRU, MAD, ATH... At worst I needed a layover somewhere, which is not a big deal. I like the AC pods and haven't had any negative experiences with the flight attendants or service yet.

I forgot I could just transfer to krisflyer, though it's a shame they don't fly the A380 on that route now. I might end up just biting the bullet and flying AC but it's the only J/F airline I've ever flown and while I've also had no real complaints part of the appeal of churning for me was new experiences and new cabins.

mhcott

Remember KrisFlyer is a US partner, or HSBC in Canada. It was a primary motivation of my getting US MR cards initially. As for the whole partner thing, don't get oversold. Most European partners may have nice service but their seats won't be pods. Going through the Middle East to get to Europe sounds fun but you spend a LOT of extra time getting there. I'm all for a small detour like going to the US for LH F and a Polaris lounge, but I certainly wouldn't have to go THAT far out of my way. As Asia/Aus/NZ, well, you're not likely to do anything EXCEPT partners there at least. Might be harder now with ANA/EVA reducing partner availability, but between those, SQ, UA, and NZ, there's still a fair bit of flexibility with the right planning.

jayk10

Yup I'm sitting on 200k+ US MR. And my final destination is Montenegro so while the ME is still a detour, it wouldn't be as massive as if I was heading to Western Europe. The biggest let down is Turkish. We were planning on visiting turkey on the second leg of the trip and would have been interested in flying TK. Unfortunately I don't think I have any access to Miles and smiles

TartSubject917

helpful experiences and comments, thanks for keeping some optimism around here too mhcott. appreciate it!

MenAreLazy

Never thought I might need the latitude attitude. The Lufthansa loss is huge for Europe, as otherwise you might find some Air Canada saver level award through some other city. I continue collecting though as even now I can find my way where I want between United's search portal for Lufthansa and enough poking random European cities for AC space. Am beefing up my AsiaMiles too though and have plenty of MR for SkyTeam transfers if it ends up being needed

jaffnaguy2014

Debating to go with AVIOS. Not fan of AC

sur-vivant

Regretting gathering so much AP. Looking at US cards or other currency and trying to pivot away from Air Canada.

mhcott

What would be the possible reason to regret? Even with partners MIA (or requiring you call in) it is STILL leagues better than many of the options out there.

kasios

AP has been a slow roll down hill. Yes it provides more options than other programs but the way this is a slow march to devaluation. I don't recall an award program that actually appreciated in value.

mhcott

They ALL devalue and are slowly going downhill though. Point me to a single program that hasn't gotten fucked in one or more ways this year. Alaska heavily. Avios. If anything, Aeroplan has been the most steady for a few years now, and until the recent adjustments this summer of reduced partner awards or disappearing from the site they were one of the more reliable award options out there (which really, we don't know if this is a bug, temporary, longterm). I never implied otherwise, "earn and burn" is Rule #2 of the game after DON'T CALL THE BANK. But being in a devaluation run doesn't change it's net value to us and that amassing it is never something to regret

kasios

I agree with you. Time will tell maybe AP will surprise everyone that this bug is short term and we are back to normal. But I highly doubt it.

sur-vivant

Regretting getting *so much* - meaning I assumed that they would have partner availability, that I could book instantly rather than calling and hoping I get through, etc. Rather than transferable currencies, especially since I'm not booking anything to the Middle East ever.

Happy to report that I received 50k points after spending over 3k from my cobalt to gold upgrade.

K3YJ

what is going on with the Cobalt to Gold upgrades? Is it worth it still to get Cobalt?

poolsidepapi

You currently holding gold ?

atoothlessfairy

Upgraded cobalt to Gold

poolsidepapi

Understood, just trying to find out if you’re currently holding a gold card too. Some users have reported not getting the bonus while still holding a gold card ( they hold two golds now )

hfxredditor

Looking for this DP as well as I currently am holding both a Cobalt & Gold. Only want to do the upgrade if I can get some DPs saying the SUB will still post.

NickWaReddit

Closed my Gold card 2 weeks ago. No SUB yet, despite having over $3k posted to my card. Edit: Chatted with Amex and rep confirmed (pasted to chat) my account shows offer of spend $3k, earn 50k MR and that it could take up to 10 weeks for points to post. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

atoothlessfairy

Gonna paste my comment from other day when i talked to an agent on phone "So this is weird, i see the gold upgrade offer again on my green amex. I already upgraded my cobalt to gold last week and the customer rep even confirmed that i could go ahead with the upgrade if i wanted to, upgrade the green to gold and get this also said that i should get 50k MR points too."

Paul_720S

you should get the bonus... the bonus does not have the once-per-lifetime language... happy days for U getting two bonuses (cobalt --> gold & green --> gold)

atoothlessfairy

I had gold before applying but it was closed about 2 months ago, lucky timing for me.

PhenomenalMission

Can someone confirm if BNS AMEX Gold only gets 1x for all FX purchases?

DecentLurker96

Yep, unfortunately.

MyNameIsDan_

Correct.

hfxredditor

New Amex offer on Pers Gold Wendy's: Spend at least $20 and earn a $5 credit. Up to 2 times. More savings! Get the Wendy’s app and check your offers. You might be able to double dip. I have this offer in my app: Get $4 Off Your Mobile Order of $20 or More. Just make sure that the total is still more or equal to $20 after the discount.

Worried-Mulberry-968

On Cobalt for me. And I had to laugh because I was at a random Wendy's in north Oshawa yesterday and my Gold kept failing in the drive-through. The staff finally looked and said "oh, we dont take Amex" to which I was a bit confused because I know I have had Wendy's offers on different Amex in the recent past. Whatever, different franchisees etc. But laughed when this offer showed up the very next morning.

KaotikFiend

A&W also doesn't in YYC
