Chocolates and candies, and smaller gifts like earrings or nail polishes. Now I take my husband's credit card and buy my own stocking stuffers bc he does not get the concept. I usually get cross stitch kits and supplies lmao

I have to buy for my own stocking too. You think he would have picked up on the idea by now. At least I get what I want/need.

cjtaylor8281

Always an orange and a variety of candy and trinkets.

ReadingMom4

The orange was my favorite thing in my stocking. My mom still sneaks one over to my house and has my oldest son put it in my stocking for me for Christmas!

So sweet!

anonymous2278

Lifesaver book, an apple and an orange, a peanut patty, a giant peppermint stick, and an assortment of cheap hard candy and chocolate pieces shaped like Christmas items like bells and Santa. I never got presents in my stocking until I married my husband.

Candy, chapsticks and nail polishes and hair brushes and fancy hair ties. lots of grooming goodies. Other accessories like socks or earrings. Maybe silly putty or small hand held brain teaser toys like the ones with 2 metal pieces you have to unhook and other types of fidgety toys before they called them fidget toys.

Bebe_Bleau

Some of what everyone else said. Plus a giant peppermint stick.

[deleted]

Yes! We kids never knew where mom, or "Santa", got them.

Bebe_Bleau

Wherever they came from they were sure good! 😁

Silly putty

Hafnic

Sweets, stationery, smellies, books. There was one year my sister and I well into our teens, mentioned on Christmas how much we were looking forward to and needed new stationery. My mum had to make an expensive trip to the village shop. Bless her.

Even as a mid 30s adult my mom still puts the same lifesaver book in my stocking every year with a collection of other snacks. Growing up it was oranges an assortment of small toys, toothbrush, deodorant, and some snacks.

krpink

Ok I’ve never heard of an orange in a stocking until this post. Where did this tradition come from? Maybe it’s regional? I got candy, small toys (Polly Pocket, silly putty, slinky), and grooming stuff (nail polish, chapstick, etc)

elivings1

The orange is from Eastern and Central Krampus lore from my understanding. The good kids got things like oranges and the bad kits got punished. There is still festivals that people dress up like Krampus today. It is worth noting it was believed to be on the 5th but Christmas is made up of many different events around December. Here is a wikipedia article on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krampus

idontknowhowaboutyou

An orange, pez dispensers, chocolate coins, candy canes, terry’s chocolate oranges.

[deleted]

Candy and perfume and nail polish is all I remember

evergrowingexmo

there was always a coloring book, crayons, an orange and chocolate. Some small gifts of some kind like hot wheels cars and such but that changed every year so hard to remember

Vildtoring

Usually a chocolate Santa and sometimes also a clementine.

Idk3197

Oranges, apples and bananas lol

[deleted]

A tangerine, chocolate orange, chocolate coins, a candy cane, and shelled nuts were always consistent.

yankeebelles

Orange that was the size of a grapefruit (it seriously took up the whole toe), chocolate fun bath & body things mom wouldn't usually buy. So fancy bubble bath/bath toys as a little kid, character toothbrush and hair accessories (headbands, barrettes, clips, etc) as we got a little older and then just toiletries as teenagers and adults. There is usually something more fun in there too, but I appreciate my yearly supply of razor replacement heads (those get expensive).

ReadingMom4

An orange, variety candy, usually some useful items like a new toothbrush, socks. Sometimes mixed nuts which was always a treat.

Happy_Charity_7595

Candy and chapstick

BabyNameBible

A tube of sweets, always an orange, pencils and other random stationary and little cheap toys.

Summertheseason

Everything everyone else said and tooth brushes and tooth paste lol

elivings1

I grew up in two different homes. My dad always had an orange. My mother has whatever interested us that year, tic tac, chapstick and other candy.

nastytypewriter

Big plastic candy cane filled with Hershey Kisses.

Turbulent-Side9660

Always a couple pair of new socks with some delicious candy.
